"Jules Dassin, an American director, screenwriter and actor who found success making movies in Europe after he was blacklisted in the United States because of his earlier ties to the Communist Party"

YEAH!

Little did we know then! No one could have imagined at the time that the Republican Party would evolve into the new Communists of the 21st century!

YEAH!

I said it!

Nationalized Ids, Watching your Neighbors, listening in on phone conversations, rabid nationalism, programmed poverty ----- all constructs of communism!

They too used to say "If you've Done Nothing Wrong Then You Have Little to Worry About" just like their modern contemporaries (The Bush Cult)!

There go the family jules.

Little did we know then! No one could have imagined at the time that the Republican Party would evolve into the new Communists of the 21st century!

How did you make that connection?

I love his movies

If Jules Dassin could see how the far Left and even the not so far Left turned into the rabid anti Semitic gang that so many of them became today are REDNECK -

he'd BE A FUCKING REPUBLICAN.

Oh, GZ, what a tangled web. Israel is not always right, anymore than the U.S. is not always right. And by right, I mean correct. Deal with it.

How did you make that connection?

I'm not sure how he made the connection, but here is how I make the connection.

When your phone can be tapped at government discretion--that's a connection.

When you can be thrown in prison without a trial or counsel forever, that's a connection.

When you start wars with countries that are no threat to you, that's a connection.

When you keep secrets from the public about a major attack on our nation, that's a connection.

When government is more interested in twisting elections than finding out the will of the people, that's a connection.

When government places the interests of big business over the welfare of the populace, that's a connection.

When a President thinks he can decide which laws he will follow and which laws he doesn't, that's a connection.

There are more, but I'm sure their mention would be as meaningless to you as the ones already stated.

redneck, you are an idiot, The dems are the new commies....

bob, quit drinking the bong water.

On the other hand, I do think many/most of these people got FUCKED..

Jules Dassin made some excellent American movies before he had to leave the country because of a completely un-necessary and bogus hunt for Reds under the Beds. He then made at least three more, "Rififi", "Topkapi" and "Never on Sunday" with his terrific wife Melina Mercouri.

America's loss, for the typical stupid reasons we still see today under this cowardly administration.

The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

We can only hope for that.

There a 8 million tales in the Naked City, this is just one of them.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Jules Dassin's 1948 classic film The Naked City still works to this this day as a stunning example of film noir and cinema veritae.

Shot in the streets of NY instead of on soundstages it captured the feel of the Big Apple like no other before and has subsequently influenced how a lot of later directors shot on location.

Followed up in 1950 by Night and the City a truly dark film noir classic with the recently departed Richard Widmark giving an exemplary perfortmance of a "beautiful loser" tryin to keep it together and often failing.

Dassin's love hate relationship with NYC is much in evidence.

Spud's favorite of his movies was ""Never on a Sunday".

Not saying why.

Also liked Rififi and Topkapi

RIP Jules Dassin.

Be Well.

Let's celebrate!

During the thirties quite a few Americans joined Communist groups and other types of groups with different ideas about economics.....gee I wonder why???? Maybe the Great Depression put so many into poverty that they felt desperate for a different direction......I'm wondering what types of groups people will be joining should our present economy take a nose dive.....The wealthy have concentrated too much wealth and are pushing the limits of America's willingness to accept crumbs......history does seem to repeat itself.
What were those tax rates for the wealthy during and after WWII?????.....90%?????

Danni,

I am sorry you are living on crumbs.

Is Crumbs the new girfriend Danni is sponging off of?

Crumbs is a hottie!

"When government places the interests of big business over the welfare of the populace, that's a connection."

did bob really say this?
big business a sign of communism?
Even though it was bob im stupefied.
