Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Hillary Rodham Clinton's cash-strapped presidential campaign has been putting off paying hundreds of bills for months -- freeing up cash for critical media buys but also earning the campaign a reputation as something of a deadbeat in some small-business circles. A pair of Ohio companies owed more than $25,000 by Clinton for staging events for her campaign are warning others in the tight-knit event production community -- and anyone else who will listen -- to get their cash upfront when doing business with her. Her campaign, say representatives of the two companies, has stopped returning phone calls and e-mails seeking payment of outstanding invoices. One even got no response from a certified letter.

And word is getting around that Clinton's campaign does not promptly pay those who labor to make her events look good, said an employee of the event production company Forty Two of Youngstown, Ohio.

"I feel insulted by the way that the campaign treated this company and treated us personally," said the employee, who did not want to be named talking about a client.

The Clinton campaign paid the company $16,500 to set up a stage, press riser, sound system and backdrops at a Youngstown high school last month for a raucous union rally, where an aggressive Clinton stump speech drew thunderous applause. But the Clinton campaign has yet to pay Forty Two for two other February events, and the employee said the campaign has stopped returning phone calls, e-mails and didn't respond to a certified letter.

"We worked very hard to put together these events on a moment's notice and do absolutely everything to a t' to make it look perfect on television for her and for her campaign," said the employee. "Sen. Clinton talks about helping working families, people in unions and small businesses. But when it comes down to actually doing something that shows that she can back up her words with action, she fails."

To me, this is disgusting considering how many millions the campaign has already paid out to their big-dollar consultants and pollsters. Why in the world should anyone think that this motley crew, unable to even manage a primary fight without stiffing the little people beholden to them merely for their livelihood, is able to run the largest budget in the world based on this track record?

This story should be the latest lead in the continuing drain-circling the Clinton campaign is doing in spite of her name recognition and prior fundraising advantages. Remember, this is the same candidate who spent $43 million to defeat a stiff last year to retain her Senate seat while Obama was stumping and helping get a slew of Democrats elected to Congress including two, McCaskill and Webb, who shifted the balance of the Senate in unexpected upsets last fall. If Hillary, like John Kerry, had shifted some of her overkilling resources to other cash-strapped Democrats running in 2006, maybe the margin of majority could have been even greater, but that wasn't on Sen. Clinton's mind, obviously.

Judge the candidates by how they've run their own campaigns and no one could come to a conclusion that Hillary posesses the necessary fiduicary skills this nation sorely needs during our current fiscal imbalances. And wait until the Clintons release their income tax returns, showing the mid-double-digit millions they've amassed since 2001.

It will make their deadbeat bill-paying look even more egregious than it currently does, and thats saying something as well.

No problema. How about another $5 mil from Hill? (Anyone wanna take bets that Hill's loan to her campaign is one of the first bits of indebtedness that gets paid off?)

No Post SuperTuesday election plan

Leaving a trail of debt

Sounds like another version of Bush

At least my share of the National Debt is the biggest of the two debts I have. The other's small short term stuff that wouldn't cover a Florence hotel suite for a weekend.

Don't blame me, I voted Badnarik.

Don't blame me, I voted Badnarik.

Don't blame me. I voted Kodos!

Be Well.

On Topic?

Hillary is bad with money AND a pathological liar?

So do not want!

Obama '08.

Be Well.

"bad with money AND a pathological liar"

We already have one of those.

Judge the candidates by how they've run their own campaigns and no one could come to a conclusion that Hillary posesses the necessary fiduicary skills this nation sorely needs during our current fiscal imbalances.

Neither has any other Washington politician since the beginning of the Civil War. The debt is far beyond any possibility of paying off. Just keep dreaming until reality bites.

"since the beginning of the Civil War"

I'd push it back to the founder's lifetimes.

Madison was not pleased that congress wanted to have a chaplain.

What about the Louisiana Purchase? I am sure that cost a pretty penny or two.

Wow! someone else who actually voted for Mike Badnarak! I voted for Harry Brown 3 times before that but I'm often accused of being a Bushie around because I don't luff Obama.

i met Harry Brown thought he had a chance back then i kinda knew my badnarak vote was doomed. why is anyone shocked that this broad cant balance a checkbook let alone run this country

I think the nominee for the Libertarians this year will be Wayne Allyn Root.

Perhaps the McCain for President campaign could lend their buddies in the Clinton camp a few bucks.

OMG! Are you telling me the Libertarian candidate this year will be WAR?!

I can already imagine the slogan:

Vote Libertarian, vote for WAR.

Now that is funny I didn't notice that. I'm designing the shirt now!

STOP THE 3 A.M. CALLS TODAY!!

I am sure China will kick in a few million!

Dems not paying bills, how unusual. Hey, let's just raise taxes to pay the bills.

Hey, let's just raise taxes to pay the bills.

Or lets just get our kids to pay them for us like Bush taught us.

You've GOT to be kidding!!??

The GOP DOUBLED the federal budget in 6 years and BORROWED every penny of it.

"You've GOT to be kidding!!??"

It's like claiming to be the fastest man in the world...that is, if you don't count the guys who finished first, second, and third. If spending and deficits were Olympic sports, Republicans would hold the Gold, the Silver, and the Bronze.

I say get the name of every person who was a registered Republican in 2000-2004 - the ones who gave W and the GOP a blank check to double our federal budget - and divide the $5,000,000,000,000 (trillion) Bush racked up in debt by that number....

Then send them the bill

We had balanced budgets and surpluses projected for 10 years when the NeoCons those voters put in office too over.

I shouldn't have to pay for their irresponsibility. That's the GOP mantra isn't it? "Personal responsibility'? Well, time to pony up and be responsible for the actions of those you voted into office then cheered them on as they wreaked havoc on America.

Ain't my doing. YOU wanna be 'responsible'? Well, it's your taxes that need to skyrocket to pay off China, et al and retire that debt.

It is pretty revealing in a way....that the REpublicans here still have the nerve to post things like
"Dems not paying bills, how unusual. Hey, let's just raise taxes to pay the bills."

One of the following has to be be true.
1) They are stupid and don't know any better.
2) They know better but are simply liars who don't think we will call them on it.
