Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

After nearly a year of relative calm, US troops and Shia militia engaged in pitched battles last week, underscoring how quickly order can give way to chaos in Iraq. On one block in Sadr City, the cleric's sprawling stronghold, armed men and boys came out from nearly every house to fight. "Whenever one of us dies, it raises our morale," said Abu Moussa al-Sadr, 31.

but what of the news just this morning that alsadr wants a ceasefire and amnesty. is that a sign he is winning? or losing?

Just a guess, it's a sign he's playing the same game he's been playing for five years.

See: Quagmire

THE SURGE IS WORKING!!!!!!!!! (lol)

...or is it a sign that BushCo is now going to bribe him, too, just like he's bribing the insurgents?

Ya know the Surge soft drink was the drizzling shits and Dubya's surge is the same thing. Coinkadink?? I think not.

Larry Mohr

Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr ordered those loyal to him and his Mahdi Army Sunday off the streets in Basra and cities across Iraq, saying that whoever carries arms against Iraqi forces is not one of his followers.

The "Surge" is working...just like it did in Vietnam. But then we quit decided to come home. But we didn't lose !!!

See? The Iraqi security forces are ready to stand on their own.

As long as there are U.S. Air Force Precision bombers to do all the work.

As long as there are U.S. Air Force Precision bombers to do all the work.

Care to explain the problem with that? Especially if the precision bombers are unmaned drones?

Larry- I actually kinda liked Surge soda. And with the surge, I think it's great that we are actually trying to do what it takes to win instead of "staying the course". If we really want to get this thing whipped though we should actually send more troops in, with better recruiting (benefits) or a draft.

I'm afraid that this isn't politically expedient in an election year though.

Sure there is no problem with that as long as you don't go on the news earlier in the week spouting off about how "THIS IS AN IRAQI LED AND IRAQI MANNED OPERATION" as if the Iraqi's accomplished this with tactics, AK's and RPGs and NOT because Big Bro was there with all his cool tech that is SUPPOSEDLY not supposed to be there forever to hold their hand for everything.

This proves NOTHING about Iraqi training.

twocanpete.blogspot.com
Of course the grease ball wants a cease fire he's getting his butt kicked. The heck of it is, we've been accomadating this filthy booger when we should've blown him to Hell by now! Just more of Bush's idiotic missmanagement of this war.

I can't believe there are still folks out there that think the Iraq war is winable when itwas lost the very nanosecond it began. When You act illegally Immorally and Unjustly You have lost. Why can't You guys admit to this?? TRUTH HURTS DONUT.

Larry Mohr

Chuck Hagel called Bush and McBush's view of Iraq as "Alice in Wonderland".

Says it all

Great the Sunni can bomb the Shi'ite, who can target the Kurds who can call in a strike on the Sunni's.

Maybe we can color code the drones to show alliance. And all from some far away control center, Priceless.

Zap - Priceless? Absolutely. I thought the lib arguement has always been about Americans getting killed. If we can eliminate that, then it's no different than being in Germany for 60 years, or in Korea for 50 years.

Oh wait, that's not really it, is it? It's all about Bush and the "stolen election" and how everything he does has to be a crime. He could find a cure for every disease known to man and you libs would want him brought before a tribunal for causing unemployment among health care workers.

I thought the lib arguement has always been about Americans getting killed..

LOL wars of necessity compared to a war of choice.

Take your thought process back to the drawing board.

Oddly enuff ...no, Redman, yer about as wrong as you can be.

Believe it or not there are people on this planet who actually place a value on the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi lives lost as well as the millions of Iraqi lives shattered forever.

There are people who mourn the dead on all sides of this ilegal, immoral, pre-emptive resource war.

Know that might be a bit if a tough concept for you to wrap yer wee head around but it's the truth.

Be Well.

Ladies and gentleman, this is a case of extreme denial of facts. Facts that the war has changed considerably in the last 2 years, so much that not only is winning the war a thought, its now a very real possibility.

For some, its a tough pill to swallow.

But don't worry, I completely understand.

Lady Machbeth Syndrome(Thanks Danforth) is eating You alive isn't it?? That is a post of one who wants to hold out any hope when the facts of the matter elude them. Quite Typical if You ask Me.

Larry Mohr

The lib argument being the loss of american lives? As spud said, the loss of any human life is tragic, and this is the tragedy that just keeps on giving. Well before Bush lied about his neocon masters' reasons for invading Iraq, millions of innocent iraqis had died PREVENTIBLE deaths due to sanctions we imposed, which any idiot could see would not affect the ruling elite, "just" the poor. Millions. Most deaths being related to curable diseases, impure drinking water, and such.

Of course, Hussein can be called a monster for his part in this, but rather than going in and offering aid while weakening his power base, or putting in a small contingent occupying force to ensure cooperation, we went into an already sick and weakened nation, destroyed what little order and government, however flawed it was, and destroyed all their infrastructure for that extra little loving touch. All to the tune of hundreds of thousands more iraqi deaths - again, it's mostly the helpless and the poor who suffer. A large percentage of the wealthy left - further reducing Iraq's economic capacity to recover.

Meanwhile, outside Iraq, the surrounding area sees us as an occupying destabilizing force, and we breed more terrorists. On the homefront, our economy suffers the effects of a war that pours money from our coffers to outsourced foreign companies, or a top heavy military-industrial complex of the blackwater type that does little to nothing to stimulate our stagnant and staggering economy.

All in all, every single one of our 4000 deaths and hundreds of thousands of wounded are a reason unto themselves in support of the "lib argument." The real tragedy is when you see just what a tiny percent of all the horrifying reasons they are.

Shucks and I thought "Sadr City" was a ME version of Radio Shack or something.

but what of the news just this morning that alsadr wants a ceasefire and amnesty. is that a sign he is winning? or losing?

This offensive had nothing to do with the "surge" in fact, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-South Carolina, said the Iraqis did not consult them before launching their offensive. Which means the battle was more independent than previously thought. It was a good measuring stick on the progress of the Iraqi Army taking care of itself.

The answer remains to this question, did Al Sadr ordered a ceasefire because he was loosing or winning. I believe he was loosing, because in peacetime it's easier to build and train forces than while your fighting. I don't trust his intentions for the future of Iraq, if Iran is backing him.

Yea by reading this it all very clear...

Ahh, but the strawberries that's... that's where I had them. They laughed at me and made jokes but I proved beyond the shadow of a doubt and with... geometric logic... that a duplicate key to the wardroom icebox DID exist, and I'd have produced that key if they hadn't of pulled the Caine out of action. I, I, I know now they were only trying to protect some fellow officers...

But on the other hand, Queeg....... Hmmm

Zap-bushblowertoo? Like Queeg?

More like

Queef.....

Sadr City "under siege"?

Answer to that one's simple.

Put in a call to Seven Seagal.

Some of you people that think that this War is being won, had better get your NEWS from other sources than Fox News, or Conservative radio. Go on the Internet an read News from around Europe, the Middle east an England you may get another view.

Is the Surge working, maybe but how long can the United States pay both the Sunnis and the Shiites for not fighting???

How long will the CERFEW be in effect both in Bagdad an Sadar City an through Iraq????

How long will the people of Iraq stand for Automobiles being Banned from major parts of there Cities????

How long will the People of Iraq be satisfied with 25% of Electricity and Water that is not clean, sewer systems that are vintage 1950?????

How many Americans would want to live under those conditions, not many I would suppose. May be that is why over 3,000,000 of there citizens live in other Countries in the Middle East, as refugees...Is the Surge working, I think not.....

The war in Iraq is less and and less reported on these days, on all American news channels that I've seen which generally means things are getting better, since journalism doesn't necessarily steer towards the good news anymore.

There is a lot of truth in that statement. The war in Iraq has definitely improved. Otherwise, the news networks would be broadcasting non-stop about how terrible everything is over there. And, since good news in Iraq doesn't fit their template, it goes unreported.

THE SPLURGE IS WORKING

well damn it to hell.
why didnt I think of looking in papers from europe and the rest of the world to find out all I need to know about iraq and us. yeah sure....I might just take out a subscription to a paper from london or so.........please.....you cant believe the NY times and Im suppose to believe some rag from london?
