The conventional wisdom that a prolonged race for the Democratic presidential nomination between Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton is bad news for their party may be turning on its head.

Unless the Obama-Clinton contest turns far nastier than it has already, or ends in a way that seems demonstrably unfair to a portion of the Democratic electorate, the Democrats should benefit from this competition.

----

I don't know about that. A chunk of these Democratic voters will probably vote for McCain.

"A sizable proportion of Democrats would vote for John McCain next November if he is matched against the candidate they do not support for the Democratic nomination," the pollsters at Gallup report this morning. "This is particularly true for Hillary Clinton supporters," they add, "more than a quarter of whom currently say they would vote for McCain if Barack Obama is the Democratic nominee."

Gallup surveyed "6,657 national Democratic voters, aged 18 and older," from March 7-22. Of that group:

28% of those who support Sen. Clinton said they would vote for Republican Sen. McCain in the general election if Sen. Obama ends up being the Democratic presidential nominee.

19% of those who support Obama said they would vote for McCain in the general election if Clinton ends up being the Democratic nominee.

If this holds true, I think McCain has a really good chance of winning.

Credit to whomever said this: The Dems will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

We'll have 5,000 dead in Bush's War by then. I don't think the voting public will push McBush's lever because they are piqued. herm

I think he has a good chance of winning anyway.

Shows how stupid people are - they'll vote against a candidate who shares their views for one who does not out of spite.

Must be "Reagan Democrats".

Because many Republicans are temporarily turning into Democrats and getting into the mix --- they might vote differently in November.

"We'll have 5,000 dead in Bush's War by then. I don't think the voting public will push McBush's lever because they are piqued. herm"

Americans give two hoots about Iraq at this point, except as it relates to the daily cost, which they assume is responsible for the prices of milk and bread and gas. News coverage on Iraq has dropped to only just over 10% of daily content. Besides, flipping the lever for Barry or Hillarity would, in some minds, result in 5000 dead somewhere over here, probably in one domestic attack launched out of a mosque in Chicago.

Has anyone noticed how some stories vanish after a few hours whenever comments are made on Drudge Retort that they don't agree with while other stories stay on for days? Hmmmmm

Who is "they," KBM? (And do "they" have black helicopters instead of hoopties?)

I guess you can spin this story any way you want to. We will find out later.

The Dems will trounce the GOPhers this time around no matter whether Hill or Barack get the nom.

The polls are increasingly innacurate but the fact that the turnouts have been so high for the Dems (with so many younger voters too) and so low for the GOPhers, combined with the way the money is coming in for the candidates are all clear indicaters that McCain is not gonna get the Nom even if he survives old age to make it to November.

Be Well.

spudhead, you must get some real good grass up north.

"Has anyone noticed how some stories vanish after a few hours whenever comments are made on Drudge Retort that they don't agree with while other stories stay on for days?"

I noticed that some stories disappear quickly, KBM, and some stay for days, but I figure that RCade takes down the ones that have inane comments in them, or that don't garner enough postings. Kind of like this one. Others stay for days because people have lively conversations going, or because of high traffic.

I suspect this particular thread is doomed...

actually I think that people continue to misread the american public when it comes to iraq. I think many more people than the left wants to admit believe as I do. that liberals who want to pull out and lose will discredit the men and women who have given thier lives to this effort and we on the right believe that the only way to see to it that thier sacrifice wasnt in vain is to stay and win.

as to this particular subject.....there just has to be some data on how much of the higher turnout will vote for mccain either because they are a part of operation chaos or mccain dems.

How many God damned lives will it take to quench Your thirst BLT?? How many?? The Iraq War was lost the very moment it began BLT or have You not realized it yet?? Which is better to lose 4000 and admit the truth or to lose 40,000 and still come up with snake eyes???? Tell Me BLT how many lives will have to be lost before You will say that is enough??
