Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has moved into a significant lead over Barack Obama for the first time in weeks in the race for the party nomination, according to a Gallup poll. The March 14-18 national survey of 1,209 Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters gave Clinton, a New York senator, a 49 percent to 42 percent edge over Obama, an Illinois senator. The poll has an error margin of 3 percentage points.

Barack will need to get the Muslim vote to win

I'm not surprised to see this - there was bound to be an impact from the last few days. Although I'd have to say that my definition of "significant" would be something more than 1 point outside of the margin of error.

Oops! And there goes PA, slippin' away....Tsk tsk

The senator from New York has boosted her apparent advantage over Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois in the contest for Pennsylvania's Democrats on April 22: Clinton 51 percent, Obama 35 percent, according to the new results today of a Franklin and Marshall College poll.

This is a doubling of Clinton's edge over Obama in the Keystone State since the last survey of the gauge formerly known as the Keystone Poll.

Within the margin of error on one (assuming it's ~3%), getting bitched slapped by Clinton on the other, and getting bitch slapped by McCain in both.

GOOD!!! America does not deserve Obama.

BRING ON THE LIES!!!

West Virginia Democratic Presidential Primary

West Virginia: Clinton 55% Obama 27%

"If Obama is nominated, just 42% of Clinton supporters say they are even somewhat likely to vote for him against McCain. Eighteen percent (18%) of Clinton voters say that they are Not Very Likely to vote for Obama and 35% say they are Not at All Likely to vote for Obama.

On the other hand, if Clinton is nominated, 57% of Obama voters are at least somewhat likely to vote for the former First Lady."

How things do change.

Corky - that tells me Obama voters really care about the country a lot more than Hillary voters - IF true or that people in WV just don't get it. As I said on the other post that both Hil and Obama want to take the country in a similar direction. Stop the bickering and get back to the ISSUES! Let the best person win and take the country back.

I'm surprised so many Obama supporters would vote for Hillary after her negativity, but agree with mdl, that is a good sign.

Still, he has those pesky delegates and popular vote on his side still. And will most likely continue to have them. I guess after he wins he'll have to woo over those frustrated Clinton supporters.

BigJohn -- All Obama has to do IF he wins the primary is ask Hillary to be his VP. Done deal.

Clinton 1246, Obama 1414 (elected delegates)
Clinton 14, Obama 30 (states)
Clinton 12,577,409, Obama 13,615,216 (popular vote)

These are the only numbers that matter

(BTW - CBS & Rasmussen Clinton 43, Obmaa 46)

No, dumbass, 2024 is the only number that matters.

That's right Corky. So the SD have to go against the will of the people for Clinton to win.

She cannot win without overturning the will of the national Democratic electorate and fomenting civil war, and she doesn't care.

That's about it, isn't it?

Try and hang in there BJ, it's pretty simple.

SDs would not exist if whoever got the most pledged delegates won without getting to the magic number.

See, wasn't that easy?

1. The purpose of the SD's was to prevent an unwinnable candidate from getting nominated, true or false? (True)

2. This year, neither Clinton nor Obama could be called unwinnable, true or false? (True)

3. Therefore, the SD's would be abusing their power, and ignoring their purpose, if they were to use their votes to upset the choice of the people, true or false? (True)

The SD's should not vote to overturn the will of the people in 2008.

So the SD's should in your view over-rule the will of the Democratic electorate, and thereby foment inter party civil war, am I correct on this Corky?

Corky doesn't give a shit about a nationwide civil war, as log as Billary's at the helm.

Gobama!

oops. "long".

Corky, nice poll with W.V. Hey righties can some please tell me what "outfit" Byrd was in (hint all white pointy tip)..... Nuff said. It's just like quoting Miss polls and getting a woody for BO....

If there is an insignificant statistical difference in the number of delegates less than 2024, the stated purpose for being of the SDs is to vote for who can best win in the fall.

If you don't like the rules, change them.

After the election, that is.

At the risk of being struck by a bolt of lightning for being in a position of taking Clinton's side on something, what if there really is a shift away from Obama in the Democratic polls? What if both candidates limp into the convention separated by 100 delegates, but with Clinton enjoying an 8-point lead in the polls? Obama's had a lousy week, with the news about his crazy pastor. What if there's more?

Just askin'.

That would be a bona fide reason to have the SD not vote for the leading candidate. I believe that is why Hillary is trying to go as negative as possible on Obama, to weaken him as much as possible to gain favour with the SD. This is the only way she can 'win', is to make him go down.

I think she is a douchebag for doing that, and in her doing that she has lost any support I may have given her. This win at all cost divisive politics is something I don't like, so screw her! lol

Apparently others don't mind the douchebaggery, not naming names.

If they both aren't on one ticket we lose. They better make up and soon or we are screwed . We will get 4 more years of death if McCain wins. Republicans don't care who dies as long as they stay rich.

Perhaps many here don't bother reading what the other side has been saying - aside from the cable news shows which ain't everything. Personally, I thought Obama's speech was remarkable and shows America what a candidate like him brings to the table. No one else could have given that speech and undoubtedly America could use a real open national discussion about race. But there are some very valid points being made on the other side of this. So much so that although I would have thought Obama would survive this, now I'm not so sure.

For example, if he disagreed with what he was hearing in his Church that much, why did he think it was OK for his kids to listen to it? After all, didn't he only recently say that he would never want his girls to listen to Imus after what he said about the girls basketball team? And yet it was OK for his girls to listen to one of their role models tell hundreds of people that the country they live in created AIDs and used it against black people?

Twenty years of this? And Wright wasn't just a Sunday sort of thing but played a big role in Obama's life.

It seems this candidate may now be beyond repair at this point because of how he'd been originally characterized. And more of this is coming as all sorts of dirty tricks played using the same theme.
There was some game played today regarding a "Black Panther Party" posting on the Obama web site I heard? It looks like so much crap will be flying at him, I wonder if he can keep pulling it off himself before it overwhelms him ?

Having said that, I also think its way too late for Clinton to ever think if Obama goes down, that she'll ever get any black votes now. The black white divide will be that much bigger with black Americans feeling they really were robbed and clearly they'll sit on their hands rather then ever vote for her.

And so of course that leaves President McCain - yes President McCain who will be elected since who would vote for the Democrats after this - either one ?

"If there is an insignificant statistical difference in the number of delegates less than 2024, the stated purpose for being of the SDs is to vote for who can best win in the fall.

Cite, please? (I'm not saying you're wrong, I just haven't seen this as the purpose of the SD's. Like I said earlier, my understanding is that they were put in place to avoid the nomination of a candidate with little or no chance to win the general election.)

Thanks God, we came so close to elect a terrorist..

You posted during the break in March Madness? I would advise going back to the bar and pulling for your bracket and have another drink or three...

The attacks on Obama continue.

"JERUSALEM Sen. Barack Obama's Chicago church reprinted a manifesto by Hamas that defended terrorism as legitimate resistance, refused to recognize the right of Israel to exist and compared the terror group's official charter which calls for the murder of Jews to America's Declaration of Independence.

The Hamas piece was published on the "Pastor's Page" of the Trinity United Church of Christ newsletter reserved for Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., whose anti-American, anti-Israel remarks landed Obama in hot water, prompting the presidential candidate to deliver a major race speech earlier this week."
www.wnd.com

No matter what Obama says, he digs a bigger hole for himself.

Obama blew it

In my considered judgment as a race and civil rights specialist, I would say that Barack Obama's "momentous" speech on race settled on merely "explaining" so-called racial differences between blacks and whites -- and in so doing amplified deep-seated racial tensions and divisions. Instead of giving us a polarizing treatise on the "black experience," Obama should have reiterated the theme that has brought so many to his campaign: That race ain't what it used to be in America.

He should have presented us a pathway out of our racial boxes and a road map for new thinking about race. He should have depicted his minister, the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., as a symbol of the dysfunctional angry men who are stuck in the past and who must yield to a new generation of color-blind, hopeful Americans and to a new global economy in which we will look on our neighbors' skin color no differently than how we look on their eye color.

In fact, I'd say that considering the nation's undivided attention to this all-important speech, which gave him an unrivaled opportunity to lift us out of racial and racist thinking, Obama blew it.

No, dumbass, 2024 is the only number that matters.

No, unfortunately McCain will the next president. The U.S. is too stupid to save itself.

I couldn't believe it when I heard Obama refer to his grandmother as a "typical white person".

If there was any doubt what he thinks about white people, I think he's cleared that up.

Obama said that white people just say things that "come out in the wrong way".

In his case, he better hope people think that's what happened to him. This statement just came out "in the wrong way".

You know, typical black people.

But BillJohnson, Obama is the right kind of racist.

Curious - when did he do that? It wasn't in his speech.

campaignspot.nationalreview.co

Ah, thanks 101. I knew I didn't hear that in the speech.

Yav: That's because it wasn't in his speech. Calling his grandmother a "typical white person" was impromptu, and is certainly accurate in my experience.

It's too bad race is still such a loaded issue. No one, least of all a black man, evidently, can try to talk about it honestly without people freaking out and going into deep denial.

Yes--The Clintons have lead Obama directly --right to the place he didn't want to go--

To be the "race candidate".

And his grandmother "was bred that way".

"Charming from a marxist liberal."

You wouldn't know a Marxist if Karl Marx himself rose from the dead and slapped you silly.

To promote the general welfare--so says the Founding Fathers.

GENERAL is the operative word Billo

Murphy

Similarly, the general welfare provision of the Articles of Confederation which preceded the United States Constitution are expressly read as providing that government with a power to enact laws:

" Article III. The said States hereby severally enter into a firm league of friendship with each other, for their common defense, the security of their liberties, and their mutual and general welfare, binding themselves to assist each other, against all force offered to, or attacks made upon them, or any of them, on account of religion, sovereignty, trade, or any other pretense whatever.

Nothing about Obama and his gov't liberal policies--no UHC--nothing like that--but you go right ahead.

Murphy

Nice try, Murphy, but your hairsplitting reminds me of what the meaning of "is" is.

"Last word freak" for Billo

Murphy

"ignorant freak" for Murphy.

Even if Hillary beats him 55-45 in all the remaining states....(which she won't he is still leading in NC)she will still be behind in delegates. If she divides the party and walks away with the nomination, she will loose in the general. The Obama supports won't vote for Hillary. So....looks like another "WIN WIN" for the conservatives. Scared up the white folk yet again....first 9/11 now this. Damn...people in this country really are stupid.

MCCAIN '08

"Clinton 1246, Obama 1414 (elected delegates)
Clinton 14, Obama 30 (states)
Clinton 12,577,409, Obama 13,615,216 (popular vote)

These are the only numbers that matter"

It would matter if this were a horse race, but it's not. It's a race for the nomination for President.

SO those numbers DON'T MATTER MUCH. Why?

Elected Delegates - a large number of those elected delegates are from RED states that will vote Republican in Nov so don't matter unless they would've been able to put the candidate over the top in delegate count. That didn't and can't happen.

States won - Same here. The states that DO matter are those that give the nominee the best chance to get a majority of Electoral College votes, the ONLY votes that elect the Prsident. That's why getting the most popular votes doesn't win the Presidency. All those RED states together wouldn't offset FLA and MI which can cost the DEMS the Presidency if their voters revolt from the DNC ruling that their votes don't count.
Statements that they deserve the punishment they received won't matter if that punishment causes a vote for McCain in retaliation for their punishment. Punishment is all well and good unless the DNC cuts off its nose to spite its face.

Popular vote - this matters, if you filter out the crossover votes of REPUBS voting in DEM primaries so that the nomination goes to the weakest nominee.
So the actual determinatation of who has the most popular votes is subjective. In states with closed primaries (only DEMS can vote) it's easier since few REPUBS would register DEM to sway the DEM selection process. This is easy til the REPUB nominee is selected. So up til March, it's a good guide DEM elector's feelings. After that, REPUBS can register DEM without harming their own party much.
So the upcoming Penn primary isn't a good measure since NEO-CONS are being urged to register DEM in order disrupt the primary.

With all of this in mind, who HAS the largest popular vote between Hillary and Obama in CLOSED primaries, as well as SEMI-OPEN primaries (where voters registered as IND can also vote) in states that voted prior to McCain being selected?

Hillary received 6,820,323 votes in those states.
Obama received 5,805,549 votes in those states.

So in states where ONLY DEMs and INDs voted, Hillary received 1,014,774 MORE votes than Obama did.

So folks have to decide if Obama really is a "Uniter" who is going to actually draw REPUB voters to vote DEM or if they only voted for him to keep Hillary off of the ballot?

The answer to this can only be answered by the individual who is thinking about it or else wait until November and find out for sure, should Obama be the nominee.

The Superdelegates will have to decide this question much sooner than that and if they decide that Hillary actually is the stronger candidate, they will shift their votes to her and she will become the DEM candidate. If they decide he is really drawing REPUBs in large enough numbers to offset his negative points, then they will stay with him or shift to him from Hillary.

In that case we will find out in August.

I do have to say that large wins by Hillary in Penn and WV along with KY and even a close race in Indiana will sway the Superdelegates to her. If she doesn't, then Obama will be the nominee.

So the current lead by Obama in the delegate count doesn't ensure his nomination by any stretch of the imagination.

Most of these were Billary supports that were polled.

No, unfortunately McCain will the next president. The U.S. is too stupid to save itself.

Amen!

God, we're all stupid!

See, it's sentiments like that that go a long ways towards explaining why sniveling liberal fucks like you will not soon be satisfied with the outcome of a presidential election.

It's got nothing to do with pastors, or race, or "SDs" (I guess that's the new term for 'superdelegates' in the left-wing blogosphere).

Don't run on a platform of being for "The People" if you're going to refer to The People as "stupid" if their support begins to wane for your figurehead.

Or chalk it all up to the inherent ignorance of "John Q. Luchpail".

Most Americans who actually work for a living are smarter than your average, piece of shit white liberal who posts on left-wing blogs.

Until you swallow your intellectually unsubstantiated ego and begin to understand that, you had probably not stake your happiness on the outcomes of elections in this country.

An invitation sent out by the campaign says the luncheon will be held at Spencer House, St. James's Place, 'by kind permission of Lord Rothschild OM GBE and the Hon Nathaniel Rothschild.' Tickets to the invitation-only event cost $1,000 to $2,300. Attire is listed as "lounge suits.

I want to go to that party, too!!! I can sing "Bomb, Bomb Obama".

Those WV numbers don't mean squat. Neither do the PA numbers.

Obama was down by 29 points a month out from TX and OH . He ended up reaping MORE delegates. Same with so many other states.

Sen. Rockefeller of WV just endorsed Obama today.

It's weeks until a primary. Polls have been so wrong all year.

Poll taken before Obamas speech Tuesday, not accurate.

The averaged polls have McCain beating both Helldawg and Obama for the first time in a while but by less that 2%.

That's the destructiuve Hillary effect.

He showed this judgment by opposing the Iraq war from the start, and he has show it during this campaign by standing up for a new era in American leadership internationally,"

Richardson was initially in support of the Iraq War and opposed to the phased withdrawal proposals put on the table over the course of 2006.

Unless Fresno500 delivered an ass-baby I don't think he'll be sending any kids off to college RiR.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows John McCain's lead growing against both potential Democratic opponents. McCain currently leads Barack Obama 49% to 42% and Hillary Clinton 51% to 41% margin (see recent daily results). African-American support for Clinton has collapsed, falling to 55% in the general election match-up. Obama, on the other hand, earns solid support from African-American voters but attracts only 36% of white voters in a match-up with McCain.

The Dems will eat themselfs

BUT somebody call McCain and tell him to stop saying stupid shit every now and then..... and tell him to stop talking about how Goddam awesome it is to be in Iraq. Yeah, we have to be there but shit man, tone it down a bit.
If he can do these things he will only have to sit back and cruise to an easy victory.

McCain 54%

I do think this is what he means. That, or he displayed weakness. He was afraid to be labeled 'unpatriotic' if he voted against the war. Thinking he had a presidential run ahead of him, he didn't want that. That is another possibility.

It's also possible he was right then, and wrong now.

No, I don't think that's possible. If Bush pushed the remove a tyrant angle instead of what we know now to be false reasoning and faulty intel then maybe.

This is a video that contains both the 5 sec blurb heard around the world - followed by several minutes after.

At 2:55 he breaks away to read a transcript from the previous day's FoxNews broadcast. That day's 'expert commentator' was Ambassador Edward Peck, a 32 year veteran of the Diplomatic Corp.

The "Chickens' coming home to roost..." were PECK'S words. Wright read his entire statement that aired the previous day in September 2001 days after the 9/11 attacks.

Watch it to get the context and then tell me how FoxNews can imply the clip were Rev Wright's own words, when in fact they were Amb. Peck's.

After the short clip you can FF to 2:55 into the video:

PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama has quickly made up the deficit he faced with Hillary Clinton earlier this week, with the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update on Democratic presidential nomination preferences showing 48% of Democratic voters favoring Obama and 45% Clinton.

Obama is leading Clinton and virtually tied with McCain in national polling. This, despite the fact that he has received a constant and dishonest barrage from all directions.

When Clinton finally bows out and Obama and the DNC focus on what a pitiful, same as Bush, candidate you righties have offered up. McCain will be lucky to win 5 states in November.

Todays date is March 25 where are you pulling your numbers from , Hillary's ass.
