Well, he had a great career. Even though he wasn't an official member of ABBA, he made a TON playing on the road with them. Enough to live on the very beautiful island of Mallorca. A place Europeans all want to go to on vacation.

Also, you can imagine he had a load of fun doing what he loved. And having played on some of the best selling records of all times.

RIP musician

I wonder if he ever was the drummer for Spinal Tap.

* John "Stumpy" Pepys (1964-1967) Died in a bizarre, unexplained gardening accident.
* Eric "Stumpy Joe" Childs (1967-1974) Choked on vomit of unknown origin.
* Peter "James" Bond (1974-1977) Spontaneously combusted onstage.
* Mick Shrimpton (1977-1982) Onstage explosion
* Joe "Mama" Besser (1982) Quit the band, claiming he "couldn't take this 4/4 shit"; according to an MTV interview with Spinal Tap in November 1991, he disappeared under mysterious circumstances.
* Gary Wallis, Jody Linscott (Amnesty International performance in 1991) (Wallis pretended to explode at the end of the performance.)
* Richard "Ric" Shrimpton (1982-1999) Allegedly sold his dialysis machine for drugs, presumed dead
* Sammy "Stumpy" Bateman (2000) Died in a freak tricycle accident jumping over a pool of sharks.
* Mick Fleetwood (2000) The only one to survive unscathed.
* Scott "Skippy" Scuffleton (2001-2007) His iPhone exploded in his hands while downloading "The best of Celine Dion".
* Plus 14 other drummers at various times all of whom are dead.

The only one who truly deserved it.

Freak accident kills ABBA Drummer.

FINNALLY!!!! now lets all get to work one that last BeeGee.

Whenever Spud thinks of Abba Spud always thinks of an interview Kurt Cobain gave before he died. He told a story of life on the road and when asked if they ever listened to their own music on the tour he gave a look like "Wot are you retarded?" an dsed that all the guys in the band had different tastes and everybody played a bunch of different stuff and that the one tape they all loved and could always agree on was Abba "Gold".

The interviewer ask Kurt if he ws being mocked and Cobain sed he was dead serious.

Spud always respected Abba for refusing an insane amount of money to go out on the road for one last tour. That was pure class. As Roy pointed out with his spinal tap example Drummers tend to burn out pretty quick in many instances and this guy seemed to have a long and interesting career at the end of which he got to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

It's always sad for Spud when a musician or a comedian who's work I've enjoyed kicks it prematurely and so it is in this case.

RIP.

Thank You For The Music!

Be Well.

I loved ABBA back in the day even though many people ridiculed my taste. I remember one girl friend who laughed at me for liking them so much just before she snuck the tape home in her purse which I got to bust her for later when I discovered it in her tape deck. We laughed about that for a very long time.

Huge Tap fan, Saw them in Boston in 1984, SF in 1992 twice. Met and hung out with Viv Savage several times.

The spokesman said Brunkert hit his head against a glass door in his dining room, shattering the glass and cutting himself in the neck. He managed to wrap a towel around his neck and left the house to seek help, but collapsed in the garden.

Its a shame no one has ever invented a way for a person to call for help without having to be face to face.

Bjorn and Benny might have had extremely bad taste in clothing, but they had a couple of hot wives:

ABBA? Didn't they do that song "Take On Me"?

ABBA? Didn't they do that song "Take On Me"?

No. I don't know who did, some one-hit wonder, but they had a brilliant MTV video for that song.

Take a Chance on Me

They still sell about 3 million albums a year.

Um, I think it might have been WAM???

Or was it WHAM?

I can't remember the exact name but George Michael was a member of the group.

I know, I was just kidding. Both are Scandinavian 80's pop bands.

Well, ABBA is older, but you know what I mean.

And yeah, that a-ha video is awesome, as is the Family Guy spoof.

"Where've you been?"

"I DON'T KNOW!"
