The sea of oil under Iraq is supposed to rebuild the nation, then make it prosper. But at least one-third, and possibly much more, of the fuel from Iraq's largest refinery here is diverted to the black market, according to American military officials. Tankers are hijacked, drivers are bribed, papers are forged and meters are manipulated -- and some of the earnings go to insurgents who are still killing more than 100 Iraqis a week. "It's the money pit of the insurgency," said Capt. Joe Da Silva, who commands several platoons stationed at the refinery.

Insurgency Runs On Stolen Oil Profits

Same as it was under Saddam Hussein only different players.

"Meet the new boss; same as the old boss"

What if I told you that 10 months before 9/11, Saddam Hussein did something very big, and pissed off the US Administration?
by Zorn

In November of 2000, Hussein switched to selling oil in Euros, when normally all OPEC nations sell their oil in US Dollars. Why?

As Ron Paul explains the US added a secret agreement to the overall OPEC Agreement where OPEC nations promised to sell oil in US dollars, and no other currency. This effectively backs the US dollar in oil, and all countries need US dollars in their reserves. This article explains why.

This is why some people call our currency The Petrodollar.

When Hussein started selling oil in Euros, it attacked the dollar's dominance as the world currency. And of course, two other countries tried, or are trying, to follow suit. Venezuela tried in 2001, and within a year Chavez was almost removed in a military coup - in the Ron Paul speech I linked to above, he states it is widely rumored that our CIA was involved in that coup.

And now Iran is starting its own oil bourse (exchange).

Notice a trend here?

Luckily for Bush, 9/11 happened not long after Hussein started selling oil in Euros, otherwise we would not be in Iraq. Interestingly, all Iraqi reserves were quickly converted back to US dollars once we took over, and oil was once again sold in US dollars. Boy were we lucky we had an excuse to get our military into the Middle East. Whew.

Time to invade 'em, too!

Thats my oil and I want it now!!!

I see,

kinda like what we did to every Indian mineral or oil claim.

Huh, I wondered what McCain was doing over there today. Now I know.

Who the fuck is stealing from who?

Bush,Cheney and pals are making out like Bandits on "Stolen" Iraq Oil!

As was declared in a recent Pentagon release,"The Bush White House is backing Iraq's insurgents" So there's no doubt a sizable chunk of those "Stolen" Iraq Oil Profits, are going directly into the secret, offshore coffers of the Bush Regime.

Bein' Presdent of Merica is hard werk!

Hey, we've gotta do what we've gotta do. If we need to off the Venezuelan who's causing problems for us, then Chavez needs to go. American interests are primary, and the life of some tin horn, who can "go to glory" shouldn't be allowed to continue if his existence is adverse to our national interests. We certainly have become a squeamish bunch.

That Iraqi slob, Ghalib Ali Hamid, whose photo appears with the story is so fat that they should put him in an oil press, and squeeze out his excess oil. It could be first press, extra virgin. It'd probably power the U.S. demand for a week. Then hang him, quickly and publicly to discourage such actions.

Why we don't keep control of the oil is an exercise in our insanity. What's the purpose of having an imperialist empire if you don't use your power to your own best advantage?

Are you a Christian Johnson?

While Condaleeza Rice was still on the board of Chevron she was involved in the Food for Oil program basically paying Saddam his blood money so that Chevron got their piece of the pie. She was taken off the board and installed by BushCo at the WH with very particular timing that allows her to say she had no idea of the illegaility of wot was being done there.

Utter nonsense, of course, but she thinks she has "plausible denialbility" on the issue.

On Topic?

The only surprise here is that this took so long to become a story and the fact that it's not a much bigger story.

How do you spell "Fail"?

I. R. A. Q.

The surge is a joke.

If it wasn't fer all the dead people it would, of course, be much funnier.

Be Well.
