Penetration is a bitch, is it?

Any parent (including Nanc) who feels absolute certainty that they know all the mischief their child engages in is a fool. The best any parent can do is keep the lines of communication open, and not freak if/when something unwanted comes down the line.

QUOTE OF THE STORY:
"You've got to hammer at them,"..

Your very touching description of your family life reminds me of my girlfriend in my latter high school years. She was the daughter of a minister and author of religious books (who also happened to be 6'9", 275#, and my former junior high school principal). Her parents had no clue whatsoever what she and I were doing after school, or on our dates, etc. Ignorance is bliss, sometimes.

Well, I sure hope you're right, but I can't help but think that any kid who's confronted with the "choice" of taking a "purity vow" is just going to say yes and do whatever they want to anyway.

I mean, honestly, has any kid EVER refused to take one? Most kids are embarassed to talk to their parents about sex anyway, and would just say whatever the parents want just to end the conversation.

Yeah, I gotta say Nanc, in my experience through the people I've met (and your kids could certainly be different), anyone who is forced to abstain from sex during the peak of their hormone-driven adolesence winds up in one of 3 scenarios:

1. Having sex whenever they want, and just telling you what you want to hear

2. Going to college and exploding into a ball of alcohol/drugs/sex since they never were "eased into it"

3. Marrying the first person they date and forever questioning their decision, or becoming a "cat lady" or "the annoying guy in the office"

rev......I would have been proud to have thrown your ass out of my program for doing that in one of my rooms. blowjob billy would be very proud of you.

"has ANYBODY here asked themselves WHY girls are getting std's?"

Because during the '60's our society subscribed to the "if it feels good, do it," "do your own thing" philosophy. Drugs and "free love" prevailed. Soon after, we began to see drug-resistant STD's, AIDS,...all that good stuff. Roe v Wade came about in the '70's and relieved people from any consequences and responsibility of pregnancy and it was "let the good times roll." Those that were the "hippy generation" and who promoted that lifestyle are now teaching in our schools and universities and in positions of power in our education system.
Our government has been and IS making a full-time push toward relieving our population of ALL responsibility for personal decisions and actions.

Bullshit.

BL2 would have been the best band teacher ever... He would have been too intoxicated to know or even care what was happening in the program.

"Since republicans seem to be doing the worst things in society maybe they should be the only ones held accountable?"

If "stupid" was a snowflake, you'd be a walking blizzard...LOL

Why? Why have they always gotten STD's? Because they are sluts.

uh huh.... when a lib wants to denigrate teaching abstinence to kids it is with the argument "well kids will be kids... they will do it anyway". Or to paraphrase, "It is normal."

That is until the girls actually do it, then it is "They are sluts."

How laughable.

I remember in the 80's San Marcos High School had like 20% pregnancy rate.

Let us see.... San Marcos High School.... Santa Barbara.... California.... highly liberal...

Anyone surprised?

But we can't have the evil schools teaching about sex education because we know that parents can do a better job.

Before you run off at your mouth.... why don't you try showing us what the STD rate was for this age group back in the day when sex education wasn't taught in schools and abstinence was taught by parents. I think that would pretty much settle the matter now wouldn't it? After all, there has been what? 50 years or more of data to go on?

muzziah - i'm sooooooo glad you're not the one who sets the standard for "normal". jeesh.

revdarko - are you implying there are NO good and moral children in the world?

i know plenty of adults who've saved themselves for marriage and are extremely happy for it. of course, there are others who were highly disappointed.

p.s. - if the stats are true - three out of four girls AREN'T getting stds...that's good news!

revdarko - are you implying there are NO good and moral children in the world?

Not at all, Nanc. What I'm implying is that children who are good and moral are that way because THEY choose to be, not because of some vow, oath or pressure from outside forces.

Those who are going to be more..loose morally, sre going to be so regardless of what their parent, pastors ro teachers do or say.

Essentially, if a kid is going to have sex, they're going to no matter what barriers someone else puts in their way.

i know plenty of adults who've saved themselves for marriage and are extremely happy for it. of course, there are others who were highly disappointed.

Kerrin the problem with homeschooling is that so many parents aren't qualified. I personally agree with Cali. Parents should be forced to take a test and if they past they should be allowed to teach. the test should be on the level of what a Bachelors level college graduate would know. If you can't pass you can't teach.

This is exactly why ALL DADS should use condoms when they molest their daughters!

I. Independent Evaluations of Homeschooling

1. In 1997, a study of 5,402 homeschool students from 1,657 families was released. It was entitled, "Strengths of Their Own: Home Schoolers Across America." The study demonstrated that homeschoolers, on the average, out-performed their counterparts in the public schools by 30 to 37 percentile points in all subjects. A significant finding when analyzing the data for 8th graders was the evidence that homeschoolers who are homeschooled two or more years score substantially higher than students who have been homeschooled one year or less. The new homeschoolers were scoring on the average in the 59th percentile compared to students homeschooled the last two or more years who scored between 86th and 92nd percentile. i

This was confirmed in another study by Dr. Lawrence Rudner of 20,760 homeschooled students which found the homeschoolers who have homeschooled all their school aged years had the highest academic achievement. This was especially apparent in the higher grades. ii This is a good encouragement to families catch the long-range vision and homeschool through high school.

Another important finding of Strengths of Their Own was that the race of the student does not make any difference. There was no significant difference between minority and white homeschooled students. For example, in grades K-12, both white and minority students scored, on the average, in the 87th percentile. In math, whites scored in the 82nd percentile while minorities scored in the 77th percentile. In the public schools, however, there is a sharp contrast. White public school eighth grade students, nationally scored the 58th percentile in math and the 57th percentile in reading. Black eighth grade students, on the other hand, scored on the average at the 24th percentile in math and the 28th percentile in reading. Hispanics scored at the 29th percentile in math and the 28th percentile in reading. iii

These findings show that when parents, regardless of race, commit themselves to make the necessary sacrifices and tutor their children at home, almost all obstacles present in other school systems disappear.

I'm a public school teacher. A very significant percentage of public school teachers are not effectively qualified to teach anyone how to wipe their own ass, let alone something academic.. Yet, they are officially qualified by the state and the teachers union.

California's socialist tendencies no no limits.

These are the same jackasses who thought it would be best to not require the learning of English...

Yeah, they're qualified to make decisions, though!

The last significant statistic from the Strengths of Their Own study regards the affect of government regulation on homeschooling. Dr. Brian Ray compared the impact of government regulation on the academic performance of homeschool students and he found no positive correlation. In other words, whether a state had a high degree of regulation (i.e., curriculum approval, teacher qualifications, testing, home visits) or a state had no regulation of homeschoolers, the homeschooled students in both categories of states performed the same. The students all scored on the average in the 86th percentile regardless of state regulation.vi

double wrap your wanker before spanker newbie/w doobie burn on!

homeschoolers tend to score above the national average on both the SAT and ACT, the primary tests used by colleges in evaluating college applicants. A study of 2219 students who reported their homeschooled status on the SAT in 1999 showed that these students scored an average of 1083--67 points above the national average of 1016; similarly, the 3616 homeschooled students who took the ACT scored an average of 22.7--1.7 points above the national average of 21 (Klicka, 2002).

Indeed... going on the actual data, it seems that his statement is just a case of the fools calling the wise "foolish".

nanc I just realized that you are old and out of touch with reality. That must be the reason you hardly ever make sense

Interesting how liberals claim to care more about their neighbor than the "evil republicans" but then they expect that same neighbor to be a worthless idiot unable to control themselves.

Since according to the data, the average homeschooling parent does better for their kids than the average public school teacher (according to the same standardized tests).... try telling me again who needs to have the standards improved?

It seems to me, that the people pushing the idea that homeschooling is bad, are educators that are more worried that they are being made to look bad by "amateurs", and by those that are worried that those kids aren't getting indoctrinated to their agenda.

"Interesting how liberals claim to care more about their neighbor than the "evil republicans" but then they expect that same neighbor to be a worthless idiot unable to control themselves."

Yeah, what's up with our little leftist-socialist friends anyway? Have they completely abandoned their PC principles? I'm not seeing the tolerance, understanding and compassion they preach anymore. It seems they have reverted to their basic mean instincts and are calling names, posting hateful messages etc., etc. What has frustrated them so? Is it that their inane policies are so ineffective or have they just been hypocrites all along. Whatever it is, I just don't feel the "love" anymore.

The first problem I see with home schooling is that not every parent or guardian has the ability to teach or the resolve to stay with it. Knowing materials and having resources to use, still does not provide everyone with the skills to teach young minds. As kids get older, they also display a natural rebellion to parents which adds to the inability to learn.

There are excellent examples of parents and guardians who are great teachers and their children have excelled in learning. These cases are highly noted and praised. But, I am sure there are also examples of major failures that do not get mentioned. Procrastination has to be a major problem in a home setting. It is easy to start a little later or delay learning today so the parent or guardian can run an errand. Some parents give in too easily to the complaints of their children and change things to meet the desires of the child. This lack of structure is a major negative to learning.

The real problem with home schooling is simply the lack of social interaction. Many parents and guardians say this is the very reason they home school. They say that the schools are dangerous and kids learn foul language, are exposed to the germs and diseases, suffer insults and embarrassments, and are exposed to sexual situations much too early in life. Some of these concerns are real and are problems in public and even private schools. But parents and guardians must realize that at some point in their children's lives, they must learn to react to the environment in which they live. Yes, I am saying some parents and guardians are over protective.

It is a proven fact that children who attend day care and pre-schools learn at a faster rate, as a rule, than children who enter kindergarten who did not have the benefit of these programs. They interact and socialize better. This is the base of programs such a Head Start. We all want to protect our children, but they must be allowed to experience life. Good judgment comes from experience; experience comes from bad judgment. Children are amazing creations. They have a way to adapt and learn at an unbelievable rate. Young adulthood is the wrong time to learn and have to adapt to the problems of the everyday real world.

The first problem I see with home schooling is that not every parent or guardian has the ability to teach or the resolve to stay with it.

Stop right there Mr. Cut and Paste. Not ALL parents or guardians home school. Generally, those that choose to do so do a better job. Home schooling is better than most public education. Know who told me that? My dad and my sister, both of whom were teachers of the year at public High Schools.

Cheers,
Walt

The first problem I see with home schooling is that not every parent or guardian has the ability to teach or the resolve to stay with it.

Based on what data? Data has already been provided above that disputes your claim and states that on average, home schoolers do better than public school students. There are already laws on the books in most states to handle the cases where this isn't true... such as failure at standardized testing.

As kids get older, they also display a natural rebellion to parents which adds to the inability to learn.

The actual facts show that this isn't any where near as much of a problem as you would like to make it out to be. Evidently kids are more likely to respond to their parents (even after "rebellion") than they would after rebelling against a third-party authority figure like a teacher.

The real problem with home schooling is simply the lack of social interaction.

That shows your ignorance about home schooling. Most home schoolers are signed up under an umbrella school (group of home schoolers listed as a private school). Those umbrella schools have social functions and even graduation ceremonies. In addition, you make it sound like home schoolers are kept in the home all the time, and don't get out in the neighborhood to make friends. This is patently false. You also ignore that many home schoolers are active in church and youth groups, as well as other functions such as Boy/Girl Scouts, Police Explorers, etc.

Wise up.

Some parents give in too easily to the complaints of their children and change things to meet the desires of the child. This lack of structure is a major negative to learning.

Sure, and public schools haven't done this at all.

All 100% horseshit and relative to public schools, these problems are barely even existent.

Messiah, you are actually managing to make an argument for homeschooling.

I would never homeschool myself but you aren't making the case against homeschooling.....in fact you are making the case for homeschooling.

So... your evidence to support your position is.... what? Seven anecdotal stories on a wiki page???? And not all of those 7 stories are even bad? Out of how many home schooled kids????

Sorry to burst your bubble... but I was the only one of my siblings that was publicly educated.

As far as jabs go though... you are really scraping the bottom of the barrel. That was a pathetic attempt on your part.

muzziah - i've forgotten more than you'll ever know.

on the homeschool subject - we homeschooled ours for a couple of years while traveling in my husband's work - it was quite rewarding.

they're now excellent students in the public school system and very good citizens - we had a teacher actually break down and cry once when we moved from one state to another.

our daughter is in all honors and advanced placement classes.

i'm fortunate to have been able to ditch my career for awhile for their benefit - no regrets. i will be returning to full time employment at the end of next summer as we'll have one headed off to university thereafter.

nanc and I am sure your kids will greatly benefit from the delusional Christian ideology you pumped in their little minds will being their teacher.

Who is messiah????? He is another douchebag who has come back with another name.

What a mess you are.

will= while

I am sure your kids will greatly benefit from the delusional Christian ideology you pumped in their little minds will being their teacher.

And I'm sure you'll continue to be miserable working for one of them.

LOL

***Since according to the data, the average homeschooling parent does better for their kids than the average public school teacher (according to the same standardized tests).... try telling me again who needs to have the standards improved?

It seems to me, that the people pushing the idea that homeschooling is bad, are educators that are more worried that they are being made to look bad by "amateurs", and by those that are worried that those kids aren't getting indoctrinated to their agenda.***

In my experience I have never met a teacher that was against homeschooling. I think a lot of the resistance cimes from funding issues. Teachers in public schools are faced with a lot more obsticles than a parent sitting at the kitchen table or desk teaching their own child. Most public school classrooms have 25 or more kids in each class, all with different learning stlyes and behavioral patterns. Many of these classes have special ed. students that are being slowly integrated into the regular ed curriculum. While I do believe some teachers are to blame for poor student performance, there are many contributing factors over which teachers have no control.

Teachers in public schools are faced with a lot more obsticles than a parent sitting at the kitchen table or desk teaching their own child.

So what you are saying is that public school is inherently at a disadvantage when it comes to educating kids.

They have divided concerns and divided agendas (need to boost numbers for funding), as well as divided attention (more students to cater to), and divided needs to attend to.

All the more reason to be home schooled.

muzziah - it is THEY who prayed for us to come to the saving grace of the Lord, although we resisted.

you don't know shiite!

LOL, Nanc.

I think you have really pushed his buttons now. He isn't even attempting to pretend intelligence now. You have reduced him to pathetic rants.

Good job.

nanc with my ability to see the future I predict a lot of burger flipping in your kid's future. That homeschooling will be a great benefit. Maybe they can even teach vacation bible school.

nanc is a joke to me. I just hate Christianity with a passion and take every chance I get to insult Christians.

"what I do know is that you can't prove god exists and your bible isn't fit to be toilet paper."

You know what, Mess-iah? I bet it is written on a better grade of paper than your Koran.

Have a little pity, Nanc...how do they say it in leftist speak? He's mentally challenged, is that what they say?

you don't know our son - he is pure brilliance, plays several instruments, and is teaching himself many languages he isn't learning in school - he can converse in spanish and french, some german and portuguese - at the age of eight, he took it upon himself to learn some hebrew.

and he has helped teach vacation bible school - what is wrong with that?

i pity you, muzziah.

***So what you are saying is that public school is inherently at a disadvantage when it comes to educating kids.

Ok why would he desire to learn Hebrew? I would rather learn Arabic personally since Muslims will overrun the Jews soon enough.

Hans: Putting the "Mess" in "Messiah" since 2007/12/22.

Might I interject in this little "discussion" to point something out?

Moo, you're misidentifying someone with your signature thingie.

I object to parents indoctrinating their kids into Christian Ideology. That is why I object to homeschooling. These kids will grow up to be fruitloops just like their parents are.

Moo, you're misidentifying someone with your signature thingie.

If you know something I don't on that, then let me know who it is.

What I DO know, is that Hans is the only one that repeatedly over the past year or two would try to insult me with the "homeowner's insurance" thing. Mike/OzarkAggie used to, but stopped that a long time ago while Hans kept it up.

I think my identification was reasonable. If you happen to know that it is faultly, fill me in and I will change the tag line.

object to parents indoctrinating their kids into Christian Ideology.

And that position might almost (not quite) make sense if it was just Christians doing the home schooling. However, it is not.

Regardless, it seems that you have more interesting in controlling what people do in their homes than you do with what is actually best for the education level of kids, since facts prove that home schoolers do better on education statistically.

Nice to know you don't give a crap about the kids.

Not the Christian kids.

Still we can argue till we are blue in the face but the courts decided in my favor.

If parents are qualified they can teach if not it's off to private or public school. If a parent wants to homeschool let them get certified just like a regular teacher.

***object to parents indoctrinating their kids into Christian Ideology.
messiah***

This guy is a chain jerking moron, why are we even playing his game.

I don't think home schooling is a bad thing, as long as the parents provide some opportunities for the child to socially interact with other kids. (ex. athletics, clubs, and yes messiah, church/temple/mosque groups).

Not the Christian kids.

So then you admit to being a bigot. Duly noted.

Still we can argue till we are blue in the face but the courts decided in my favor.

Until it gets overturned, and it will be.

If you happen to know that it is faultly, fill me in and I will change the tag line.

Okay, Hans is a practicing and unashamed Christian. He wouldn't be posting denegrating things about Christians, Christianity or the bible.

As this thread got derailed over to a discussion about homeschooling I will ask a question that relates to both.

Do you think 1 in 4 homeshooled teen girls have an STD??

If a parent wants to homeschool let them get certified just like a regular teacher.

Then they can join the union, then they might as well be in public school.

Cheers,
Walt

Do you think 1 in 4 homeshooled teen girls have an STD??

I think not, unless they are in Missouri or WV.

Cheers OA!

***Do you think 1 in 4 homeshooled teen girls have an STD??***

I highly doubt it.

Okay, Hans is a practicing and unashamed Christian. He wouldn't be posting denegrating things about Christians, Christianity or the bible.

Duly noted, Rev. Thanks for the heads up. My apologies to Hans for the mix-up.

That certainly makes the attempted insurance insult interesting though.... not any more insulting, just interesting.

If a parent wants to homeschool let them get certified just like a regular teacher.

I would if all it took was the passing of the State Standard of the
Praxis Exam.

The passing score is set (in rubber) to screen out 10% of the dumbest teachers and certify that the other 90% are "qualified". It's kinda like scoring a 400 on the SAT... just sign your name. Well, I guess it does prevent certified "morons" from teaching, but not much more.

Duly noted, Rev. Thanks for the heads up.

Not a problme.

My apologies to Hans for the mix-up.

Good on you for the apology. Many would have just said "Oops, I was wrong. Oh, well."

Personally I am satisfied with the parents taking a competency exam and teaching but to truly weed out the dumb parents maybe we should make them all have a 4 year degree. the school has to be accreditied too. None of those BS diploma mills

Count me surprised, since the rate of teen pregnancy is higher in redneck states than blue states. Yeee-haaaawwww!

accreditied = accredited

and just how many children do you have, muzziah?

We just need more condoms.-Eberly

Ya know? That really is a damn good point. The left has argued for some time that passing out condomns was the best way to fight this and teen pregnancy, while the right says teach abstinence along with eductaion.

It seems that the condomn idea hasn't worked all that well because they have certainly been passing them out.

Just an observation because I honestly don't know the best way to get kids to abstain OR to protect themselves.

www.teenpregnancy.org

Lets see, we will take just the top five states for teen pregnancy just to test this for shits and giggles:

#1 North Dakota - Red
#2 Vermont - Blue
#3 New Hampshire - Blue
#4 Minnesota - Blue
#5 Maine - Blue

Blue Total: 4
Red Total: 1

Hrm... wow.... you sure about your data there, Monte?

Lets keep going shall we?

#6 Utah - Red
#7 South Dakota - Red
#8 Iowa - Red //Hmmm... could Monte be right?
#9 Wisconsin - Blue //Oops
#10 Nevada - Grey

Blue Total: 5
Red Total: 4
Neutral Total: 1

Interesting... out of the top 10, there were more Blue states. Lets keep going for another 5 shall we?

#11 Massachusetts - Blue
#12 Pennsylvania - Blue
#13 Montana - Red
#14 Idaho - Red
#15 Rhode Island - Blue

Blue Total: 8
Red Total: 6

All in all Monte, since the total list would encompass every state from first to last... I would say that your assertion is full of shit.

glad to see that. I guess blue state girls put out more.

If my house burnt down at least I would get an insurance check.

How's that recipe of abstinence only education and Jesus fairy dust workin' out for ya'?

If my house burnt down at least I would get an insurance check.

LOL... keep chugging little engine.

to whom are you directing that question, betelg?

you NANC. I have one kid btw.

you NANC. I have one kid btw.

My condolences to the kid. From your earlier comments it sounds like daddy may be making some late night visits to their room.

But hey... at least you would have that insurance check to go with your traumatized kid. :-)

Nanc-
Judging from your posts on this and other threads, you.

if the question in question is directed at me, then i say it's working out great for our family~!

does the "kid" have an std?

From your earlier comments it sounds like daddy may be making some late night visits to their room.

I think he complained about child support on another thread so it is possible he isn't even involved with his kid.

at 6 he better not have an std. Yes I am involved. on weekends usually. I am not a molester either. they should drawn and quartered.

I think he complained about child support on another thread so it is possible he isn't even involved with his kid.

Well his previous comments then would explain why the kids doesn't live with him.

how do you know his mother's boyfriend isn't molesting him when nobody's looking?

i'd be curious to know how many of these teens are from broken homes?

muzziah - would you feel differently if a woman molested your little boy? a woman with an std?

after all - it is becoming quite common for accredited female public schoolteachers to molest the young boys. just sayin'...

If he is 16 getting a piece of 25 yr old teacher tale then I won't care. If he is 10 then I would care.

Even though I can't get along with my EX she wouldn't let my son get molested. He would speak up to me or her. Her BF isn't the type to do it anyways. He is a detective for the PD.

Personally I am satisfied with the parents taking a competency exam and teaching but to truly weed out the dumb parents maybe we should make them all have a 4 year degree.

I'm with you, messiah. People should have to be college graduates before being given a license to f*ck. The rest of you will all have to masturbate till then... ;-)

i'd be curious to know how many of these teens are from broken homes?

Really? Spud was more interested in finding out how many of them were graduates of the BushCo-sponsored abstinence-only sex "education" programs.

We already know that such graduates are not only as likely to have sex as their better informed counterparts but that they are more likely to do so without protection. The other charming aspect of abstinence only kids is the fact that they are waaay more likely to engage in anal sex than their better informed counterparts.

There's irony and there's there's THAT!

Be Well.

are you sure he's being HONEST with you?

i mean - just because he says he's being honest, there's a chance he's a little liar?

Even though I can't get along with my EX she wouldn't let my son get molested. He would speak up to me or her. Her BF isn't the type to do it anyways. He is a detective for the PD.

So lets see....

OTHER kids won't talk to their parents.

OTHER kids will lie to their parents for various reason.

OTHER people can't be trusted with kids.

But YOUR kid would ALWAYS talk to you, and never lie...

BTW... do a google on cops that have been arrested for child molestation and/or rape. You will feel silly afterwards for offering that little tidbit as proof of his trustworthiness. Compound that with the number of stories of a child that was molested by a step-parent under the full knowledge of the mother...

Niave or disingenuous... either word doesn't even BEGIN to cover your pathetic rationalizations.

NANC has found messiah's itch and now she's going to scratch the hell out of it. Scratch away I say.

i'd be willing to bet an acquaintance or relative of the mother has been molesting the child since muzziah failed the family - i'd take the little guy to the doctor on my next weekend with him if for no other reason than to put him through a rectal examination - you just never know what those children can pick up when nobody's looking...

an oral exam may be in order also.

Spud was more interested in finding out how many of them were graduates of the BushCo-sponsored abstinence-only sex "education" programs.

Oh no, by all means, let's listen to the folks who champion readily available condoms and birth control.

Tell me spud, what has happened to teenage pregnancy rates, abortion and frequency of STDs AFTER WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN ALL THESE GREAT TOOLS!!!

go ahead and made your case for more condoms etc......

Tell me spud, what has happened to teenage pregnancy rates, abortion and frequency of STDs AFTER WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN ALL THESE GREAT TOOLS!!!

I don't foresee an answer forthcoming on this one - I am well aware of the numbers.

Jeff,

I understand the opposition to abstinence only education. I have issues with it also.

but people like spud and other libs have no business criticizing it as if what they suggest is working at all. It has only gotten exponentially worse since the 60s when these great things have been made available.

divorce
teenage pregnancy
stds
children born out of wedlock
children born in to poverty
abortion

condoms and birth control were supposed to help with these problems.

all of those things I just mentioned should be better, not worse, if condoms and birth control were helping.

I don't foresee an answer forthcoming on this one - I am well aware of the numbers.

I will save Spud the trouble since there is only one reply possible given the facts:

How high would they have been without them?

The problem with this, is that just like BBob's conspiracy theories about the moon hoax, it is unfalsifiable and so it is inherently an unscientific argument. But there you go... that is all they have.

"The real problem with home schooling is simply the lack of social interaction"

Mess...That is a load. Just because they are taught at home doesn't mean these kids don't have social interaction...thru church, Little League, scouts , WMCA ,and such.

Ebs,

I understand the opposition to abstinence only education. I have issues with it also.

As do I.

What incences me even more is the 'abstinence-only' label.

Outside of extreme fringe-groups, I have yet to see a push for 'abstinence-only' education.

What I see is a push toward 'abstinence-emphasized', meaning the failure rates of various birth-control/STD preventative measures are emphasized...Meaning, that a moral judgement is attached to discussions of teen-sex...Meaning, that the health-benefits of monogomous sexual relationships are touted...Etc.

I saw Spud earlier say that sexaul activity is 'healthy'.

Bullshit!

Monomamous sexual activity with an STD partner is healthy, every thing else is risky.

STD-Free partner

JeffJ... I agree with you 100%, but I figured I better correct this before one of the lefties decides to twist it:

Monomamous sexual activity with an STD partner is healthy, every thing else is risky.

Should read:

"Monogamous sexual activity with an STD free parter is healthy. Everything else is risky."

STD-Free partner

parter = partner (in my "correction")

I think between the both of us, we got all the errors sorted out. LOL

Sorry, now I have this running through my head.... thanks JeffJ:

Monogamous... do DOO do do do...

U.S. syphilis rate up for 7th year in row, CDC says

The U.S. syphilis rate rose for the seventh straight year in 2007, driven by a continued surge in cases among homosexual and bisexual men, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Wednesday.

Since 2000, when the national syphilis rate sank to a low of 2.1 per 100,000 people after a decade of progress in the 1990s, the rate has soared by 76 percent, the CDC reported.

Homosexual and bisexual men accounted for 64 percent of syphilis cases in 2007, up from about 5 percent in 1999.

CDC officials expressed concern not only because the recent increases in this bacterial sexually transmitted disease follows years of declines, but also because syphilis can elevate a person's risk of being infected with the AIDS virus and the odds of giving it to someone else.

They also called rises among women and blacks troubling.

oh how our freedoms have taken u.s. to the limit of nearly everything!

given unlimited freedom also comes with consequences it seems, kerrin57.

now, where's that heel-nippin' chihuahua muzziah?!?

"Lets see, we will take just the top five states for teen pregnancy just to test this for shits and giggles:"

Might want to revisit that by looking a little more carefully at
the chart.

Those are not the "top five states for teen pregnancy."

Hint: Look at the column marked "Rate," as in "Teen Pregnancy Rates 1,000 Girls Aged 15-19, 2000."

"I would say that your assertion is full of shit."

Might want to revisit that as well.

The highest rates of teen pregnancy are:

District of Columbia (128/1,000) - Blue
Nevada (113/1,000) - Red
Arizona (104/1,000) - Red
Mississippi (103/1,000) - Red
New Mexico (103/1,000) - Red
Texas (101/1,000) - Red
Florida (97/1,000) - Red/Blue
California (96/1,000) - Blue
Georgia (95/1,000) - Red
That was using the 2000 figures. Using the 2005 figures shows:
District of Columbia - Blue
Texas - Red
New Mexico - Red
Mississippi - Red
Arkansas - Red
Arizona - Red
Tennessee - Red
Oklahoma - Red
Georgia - Red
South Carolina - Red
I appreciate the apology.

Looks like one is now due Monte, just for shits and giggles.

Hans

You were definitely due the apology for the identity mixup, and it was gladly given. No thanks necessary.

As for Monte, there is no apology necessary, because I had it right.

To correct one thing your post first, you have Nevada listed as a Red state. It isn't. It is neutral. Out of the past 4 elections it has gone Democrat twice and Republican twice.

The reason why rates are more accurate that a raw number is because you are adjusting per capita. Just counting raw numbers tells us little when not contrasted against the total numbers. After all, if for example there were 10 murders in NYC last night, and only 5 in Podunk, MS you would conclude the NYC had the worse problem, until you factor in that there are only 10,000 people in Podunk as opposed to 8.25 million in NYC... resulting in a MUCH higher murder rate in Podunk.

Secondly you are correct, I used the older data from 2000. As per your lead I will update the count to reflect the 2005 data. The top 15 are:

#1 New Hampshire - Blue
#2 Vermont - Blue
#3 Massachusetts - Blue
#4 Connecticut - Blue
#5 New Jersey - Blue // top 5 rounded out all Blue
#6 Maine - Blue
#7 Minnesota - Blue
#8 New York - Blue
#9 North Dakota - Red // finally a Red state.
#10 Wisconsin - Blue
#11 Pennsylvania - Blue
#12 Washington - Blue
#13 Rhode Island - Blue
#14 Maryland - Blue
#15 Michigan - Blue

Blue Total: 14
Red Total: 1

Granted that is on births alone, not pregnancies... but since each birth goes through a pregnancy, the numbers are startling.

Moonanfl,

I'm confused. Hans presented a list of rates per 1000. What criteria is your list based on?

I'm confused. Hans presented a list of rates per 1000. What criteria is your list based on?

He used the exact same data, but he relied on the raw numbers rather than rate per capita.

"He used the exact same data, but he relied on the raw numbers rather than rate per capita."

His example was: District of Columbia (128/1,000). That seems to be a rate to me. That's why I confused.

***He used the exact same data, but he relied on the raw numbers rather than rate per capita.***

No he didn't. Look at the graph. The number in the rate column is the number of pregnancies per 1000 girls aged 15-19. So if N.D. had a rate of 42 per 1000 and D.C had a rate of 128 per 1000, N.D. has the higher rate of teen pregnancy. Your reading this chart backwards.

"I'm confused."

Me, too. I used the exact same source.

"Hans presented a list of rates per 1000. What criteria is your list based on?"

He's confused as to what "rank" means. In the case of the the exact same source he used, the rank is the least to most teen pregnancies.

Hint: Look at the rates per 1,000 girls.

Or do you suppose that Texas, with a rate of 61.6 pregnancies per 1,000 girls (and is ranked #50) has a better "rank" than New Hampshire (ranked #1), which as a rate of 17.9 pregnancies per 1,000 girls?

Or are we witness to Vernon's calculator, this time in someone else's hands?

"He used the exact same data, but he relied on the raw numbers rather than rate per capita."

Don't seem to remember any "raw number" data on
the source you provided. Where is this elusive "raw number"?

I was using the rate per capita, not confusing it with the rank, which is best (New Hampshire at #1) to worst (Texas and District of Columbia at #50 and 51, respectively).

Hans

His example was: District of Columbia (128/1,000). That seems to be a rate to me. That's why I confused

Thanks for pointing that out. I assumed (yes, bad, I know) that he used the same data as me since he linked to the same source as me... however his numbers aren't reflected on that page anywhere... so I guess you must ask HIM where he got his numbers since it seems to be a mystery.

Here is the source of my data:

http://www.teenpregnancy.org/

STBYST07.pdf

"No he didn't. Look at the graph. The number in the rate column is the number of pregnancies per 1000 girls aged 15-19. So if N.D. had a rate of 42 per 1000 and D.C had a rate of 128 per 1000, N.D. has the higher rate of teen pregnancy. Your reading this chart backwards."

Meant to say D.C. has the higher rate.

Hans,

Re-read the data. I will admit that I missed that.

Apologies to you and to Monte. :-)

I will admit that on this one I made a mistake.

For the wrath of God is revealed from the heaven against all the iniquity and wickedness of men who unjustly suppress the truth; because that which may be known of God is manifested to them, for God has revealed it to them. For, from the very creation of the world, the invisible things of God have been clearly seen and understood by his creations, even his eternal Godhead; so that they are without excuse. For they knew God and did not glorify him and give thanks to him as God, but became vain in their imaginations, and their hearts were darkened so that they could not understand. And while they thought within themselves that they were wise, they became fools.

The cure for all these dieseases already exists and it's not in the form of a pill.

God gave them STD's?

So much for Immaculate Conception.

Abstinance programs deny our true animal nature. This and unwanted pregnancy is the tragic result.

Wow Krispy. When I thought it couldn't get any weirder.

you nailed it kris!

SAY IT!

Sorry I'm so late with my retort, but no, San Marcos SAN MARCOS, you idiot. San Diego County. Liberalize that! If you don't know, don't fucking pretend you know.

"has ANYBODY here asked themselves WHY girls are getting std's?"

Do factor in the abstinence-only trend, do factor in a government which has insisted to these kids that condoms don't necessarily prevent the transmission of STDs. And then recall that anal sex is the big new thing in the under-18 crowd, and comes with the bonus of not requiring a condom anyhow.

Because it's not really sex, see? And you sure as hell can't get pregnant by it!

Ah well.

Funny how "abstinence only" programs used to work before liberals started "educating" kids about "safe"-sex...

Rain...schools are teaching sex ed . Do you think the inclusion of abstinence cancels out the other ?

Teach your kids anything, anyway you want. Teach them to screw anytime, anyhow and anyone they please.

But dems do not want to allow parents the right to choose . The dems are scared of school vouchers and home schooling .

two in eight parents don't have a clue as to what their little darlings are up to~!

Well, it's time for protocols.

Son, protect yourself against contracting an STD. Regardless of the allure and how exotic they may appear, don't have sex with black girls who have a 50% chance of being infected with a transmittable STD. Choose white girls, who have only a 20% chance of being infected with an STD.

Now that's racial profiling son, but it's based on the facts on the ground, which you should not ignore.

What? The government ignores "facts on the ground" by searching 85 year old white great grandmothers at airports in the same ratio as 25 year old Arab men. Hmm. Well, you may be right, son. The government always is rational. You just plug away. If you select women at random, you only stand a 25% risk of being involved with an STD infected girl. It's worth the risk. My government, which I trust implicitly, tells me so.

Looks like one is now due Monte, just for shits and giggles.

Ja Hans, figures don't lie, but liars do figure.

You are either being misled or disingenuous as the people most likely to be infected regardless of the milieu, red or blue state, are from a community that overwhelmingly supports Democrat candidates.

What is this red state - blue state dichotomy supposed to indicate from your perspective? It certainly does not indicate greater STD infection and pregnancy among any other than Democrat supporters wherever they reside.

The telling statistic: nearly half of all black teen girls have an STD.

Yikes.

And just what point have you made abour STDs in the u.s. that would justify your demand? You've highlighted some other posters beliefs on profiling, from which there were a few valid points. Then here here and hear hear pipes in like the dingdong she is, and you hold a perfect 10 up as a sideline judge?! You guys are fucking pathetic.

I wonder if those Dateline NBC sex predators know about this or are they part of the cause.
