Republican Sen. John McCain, showing a flash of the temper he is known for, repeatedly cut off a reporter Friday when asked whether he had spoken to Democratic Sen. John Kerry about being his vice president in 2004. "Everybody knows that I had a private conversation. Everybody knows that, that I had a conversation," McCain told the reporter. "And you know it, too. No. You know it, too. No. You do know. You do know."

Imagine this man as next president. What a grumpy and old man.

Why should he be nice to Times reporters after the bullshit story they put out a few weeks back? I'm surprised he even took a question from her... There are plenty of other newspapers to take questions from. He doesn't have to talk to the one that did the hack story that their ombudsman had to apologize for.

Ah, not the hair-trigger kind of guy you'd want with his finger on that red button, eh?

Go ahead,McCain...further alienate yourself from anyone with a conservative view. Who cares, the world's fucked for sure, now, anyhow.

So he got annoyed at a stupid question. So what. No story here in my opinion.

Hillary still has more balls...

Anybody have extra rope?
How in 40 hells is he going to last
until November?

McSame

Doomed out of the blocks.......

McBush needs to settle down.

Much ado about nothing since the reporter was badgering him repeatedly and as the man said it was a "private conversation" he had with Kerry.

BTW I don't support McCain for President but the BS about his tempter is ridiculous.

It's 3 a.m. Who do you want answering the phone?

Not John McCain, say some military leaders: "I think his knee-jerk response factor is a little scary."

www.salon.com

"I like McCain. I respect McCain. But I am a little worried by his knee-jerk response factor," said retired Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton, who was in charge of training the Iraqi military from 2003 to 2004 and is now campaigning for Clinton. "I think it is a little scary. I think this guy's first reactions are not necessarily the best reactions. I believe that he acts on impulse."

"I studied leadership for a long time during 32 years in the military," said retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, a one-time Republican who is supporting Obama. "It is all about character. Who can motivate willing followers? Who has the vision? Who can inspire people?" Gration asked. "I have tremendous respect for John McCain, but I would not follow him."

"One of the things the senior military would like to see when they go visit the president is a kind of consistency, a kind of reliability," explained retired Gen. Merrill McPeak, a former Republican, former chief of staff of the Air Force and former fighter pilot who flew 285 combat missions. McPeak said his perception is that Obama is "not that up when he is up and not that down when he is down. He is kind of a steady Eddie. This is a very important feature," McPeak said. On the other hand, he said, "McCain has got a reputation for being a little volatile." McPeak is campaigning for Obama.

So he got annoyed at a stupid question. So what. No story here in my opinion.

Listen to the military guys and even repub Senators who say that he is unstable.

This is no joke, guys ... this guy may be unbalanced.

You are correct, Midiman.

"The link off that headline led to an article in Monday's Washington Post in which McCain's sometimes volatile relationship with his colleagues is examined, his temperament is discussed and Republicans come out to attack him as unfit for the presidency based on personality. A quote Sen. Thad Cochran, R-Miss., recently gave the Boston Globe is reprinted in that Post article: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine," Cochran said. "He is erratic. He is hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."

I don't beleve I would use the word 'unbalanced'. Why not let the fellings come through. I would not be happy with the same questioning, considering the crap he put up with a couple of weeks ago. Go Big John.

The political landscape in Arizona, McCain's home state, is littered with those who have incurred his wrath. Former Gov. Jane Hull pretended to hold a telephone receiver away from her ear to demonstrate a typical outburst from McCain in a 1999 interview with The New York Times.

McCain has even blown up at volunteers and, on occasion, the average Joe.

He often pokes fun at his reputation: "Thanks for the question, you little jerk," he said last year to a New Hampshire high school student wondering if McCain, at 71, was too old to be president.

Other times, his ire is all too real. This has prompted questions about whether his temperament is suited to the office of commander-in-chief or whether it might handicap him in a presidential campaign against either Barack Obama or Hillary Rodham Clinton, who are not known for such outbursts.

"I decided I didn't want this guy anywhere near a trigger," Domenici told Newsweek in 2000.

If anyone who "heard and Saw" the exchange would be LOL. The guy did not lose his temper, and the reporter was being the typical idiot from the NYT. There was no flash of a temper either.

He answered the question and she wouldn't stop--she asked the same thing like 5 times--I mean 5! times!

And for HIllary--she is a screaming banjie by some accounts.

Obama is the invisible man--but his response at the press conference that blew his cover what very telling.

AGAIN??

This particular instance is way blown out of proportion. I think the line about McCain being a loose cannon is out of proportion, too.

But, I do expect Ahmadinejad, Chavez and Kim would do all sorts of stuff to provoke his "notorious" temper. Think the Hainan Island Incident with a very irate former POW in charge.

McCain was showing his temper when he was pushing the immigrant bill. Hillary has plenty of ammunition to use against him in the campaign ahead.

I wonder if that big storm is still going on in the Gulf of Mexico that knocked out Goatman's rig communications. I saw a satellite website that showed storm areas but I don't know if it affected his rig or not.

It wasn't a stupid question at all. If he seriously considered being Kerry's running mate it would be a big issue for the Republican base. That's why he doesn't want to discuss it.

BULLSHIT... he continually cut the reporter off. The question, as I heard it reported, was whether he had ever DENIED talking to Kerry about the VP position, not if he HAD talked to him, and he dodged it 100%.

The guy is a tired crank offering the same discredited policies that have brought us to where we are.

Time for something new, boys ... this country was founded on the idea of something new, and rather than being chicken-shit and paranoid about the prospects (like the repubs pretend to be), we should embrace and thereby steer the process.

Of course McCain cut off the reporter when he asked about Kerry as possible VP. It's a moot issue as McCain's choice of VP has already been decided for him -- it will be JEB BUSH.

And don't give me that "wasted vote" crap.
The only wasted vote is one that isn't cast.

A wasted vote is one that votes for more of the same, which is what every candidate offers.

www.cnn.com

I heard the whole exchange and I don't think he lost his temper at all. If anything the reporter was being a total bitch for continuing to ask the same question after he told her it was a dead issue and that all of America already knew the answer.

I have serious doubts that she would have gone after Clinton or Obama with the same fervor.

So... we allow him to put his finger on the button?

Did anyone watch the Video?

What I see is a former Naval Officer telling this gal to Stand Down, Drop Anchor.

The whole point of her question was to confirm something he said 4 years ago. And he said do your homework.

Half the problem with this country is that everyone is a victim and a stern word is inflated to a "flash of temper" that makes the news no less. McCain is the last of the old timers who grew up in the real world and didn't get infected the PC bullshit.

Show him the queen of diamonds! Show him the queen of diamonds!!

"PC bullshit"

Pc bullshit my ass. He's ducking the question and getting angry because a reporter won't let him get away with it. If he had seriously discussed with Kerry the possibility of being Kerry's running mate in 2004 that issue would be huge with the lunatic Republican right.

And the issue of his volcanic temper isn't going away. It long predates this incident.

it's all shit anyway! McCain is human why give him crap for that? I would hope we could get someone that is human and shows emotions rather than a robot or a prepared synthetic humanoid that only says the right things at the right time so as not to offend anyone... give me a break we need a real person that has the balls to be real. McCain has been thru hell and really what are you going to do to him that would pale to the things he proudly endured so the NY times reporter could have the privilege to ask her retarded redundant question and why should he not have the right and duty to recognize the motive behind such a loaded question. It is clear McCain wants what is best for the US not what is popular or best for the privileged few. I for one welcome this view and to those that think I am a die hard Republican brainwashed by the right I believe Obama gives us the best shot at turning this crap hole around if I had my way lets take the best and have Obama take his lead from McCain and give us 8 years of Unscrewing what Bush has damaged of our great country.

Unbiased patriot!

And the issue of his volcanic temper isn't going away. It long predates this incident.

When McCain was a small child he used to have these volcanic eruptions, these mega-tantrums.

His parents solution to when he would get like that was to chuck him into a bath-tub full of ice and water.

Remember that this is before he spent six years being tortured by wot he still calls "gooks".

He is a MAD man.

"This is what Arizona Republic's editorial board had to say about John McCain:

Arizona Sen. John McCain has staked much of his claim to the presidency on his character: his status as war hero; his service to his country; his commitment to a cause, his country, bigger than himself.

These are legitimate claims to support by McCain, and worthy of voter attention and consideration.

But there are other aspects of McCain's character, less flattering, also worthy of voter attention and consideration....Many Arizonans active in policymaking have been the victim of McCain's volcanic temper and his practice of surrounding himself with aides and allies who regard politics, in the words of his paid Arizona chairman, state House Speaker Jeff Groscost, as a "bloodsport."

...McCain often insults people and flies off the handle....If McCain is truly a serious contender for the presidency, it is time the rest of the nation learned about the John McCain we know in Arizona. There is much there to admire. After all, we have supported McCain in his past runs for office.

But the presidency is different. There is also reason to seriously question whether McCain has the temperament, and the political approach and skills, we want in the next president of the United States."

Can you imagine McCain answering the red phone @ 3a.m.

Hello...what the fuck do you want is the in the god damn morning.

But the presidency is different. There is also reason to seriously question whether McCain has the temperament, and the political approach and skills, we want in the next president of the United States.

He is exactly the kind of president we want in regards to his temperament---his douchebag liberalism notwithstanding.

One of my biggest frustration with Bush is his inability to speak directly to the left-wing blogosphere---and the other various flotsam and jetsam of lingering Marxist shit interspersed throughout our culture---and simply tell them, very publically, to go eat a bowl of dicks.

There's nothing more irritating than some dumbass who thinks themselves clever by asking a question to which they already know the answer.

Add to the mix the fact said dumbass is:

A.) A liberal

and

B.) A journalist

(two of the lowest forms of human life in contemporary Western civilization)...

...you're getting might close to "pimp-slap" territory.

McCain showed remarkable restraint with this stupid bitch.

That's one more mark against him, in my estimation.

"Can you imagine McCain answering the red phone @ 3a.m. "

Actually, what he would say is:

What the FUCK do you want ASSHOLE! I'm trying to sleep! Tell the FUCKING joint chiefs to just NUKE the fuckers! Good night! And if you call me again, you're FIRED. Asshole!

McCain showed remarkable restraint with this stupid bitch.

That's one more mark against him, in my estimation

No, but Spud can imagine Vicki Iseman picking it up and going "Hey studmuffin, it's fer you!" as she handed the phone to him.

Either her or "Marie the Flame Thrower from Florida".

john SIDNEY mccain is prolly as unfaithful as Bill Clinton, as short as Dennis Kucinich, as short tempered as Mike Gravel and he dumped his first wife in order to marry a heiress just like John Kerry.

Jeez, no wonder Rush Limpdick thinks he's a liberal.

Be Well.

ah this is great...you folks are so desperate that here is a pitifull straw that you are grabbing at.
most reporters are assholes in this situation where they keep asking stupid questions and it doesnt matter how many times it has already been answered.
and the times of course has a proven track record of being some lying bullshit nonsense.
but the real problem many of you have is that here is a republican who had the GALL to backtalk a member of the liberal media. he should know his place and stay there........

Some folks constantly criticize the times for writing BS stories. okay, I know of 2-3 stories they fucked up pretty badly. But all of the other many stories they put out about righties that were so called shams turned out to be completely true.

So...McCains denials at this point should mean nothing. I would bet my house that, just like all those other guilty righties, the Iseman story is true as well. And, I woul bet that McCain did consider running with Kerry. I just wont say any of this in McCains face. LAst thing I would want is for a 70 year old man to take a swing at me. I'd have to rock him in the gut then I would become the story.

Headlines: "A 70year old President McCain got knocked the fuck out!!!

McCain is a fucking nut and you want him to be President? Jeebus H. Christ on a cracker. What dumbfucks we have wrought.

how about some reasoned arguments for a change. I know that you might need some help responding but do what you can.
mccain was on the wrong side of immigration as he was willing to SELL CITIZENSHIPS for 5 grand and he sold out the party with the gang of 14. mccain feingold is a attack against the first amendment and yet I still support him.
because hussein obama has just been named as the number one LIBERAL int he senate and I dont want him to be there at 3am because he wont do shit about it. and I dont want him picking supreme justices that will affect us for 30 years....one ginsberg is enoug.....and most importantly, the enemy wont win because we ran away,,,,,,,,,,,,,llll

Sure he is, BLT, sure he is.

And wot's wrong with that, btw?

Liberal is a good word!

Ummm okay then... Whitney Houston is a has been crack ho who's last two remaining fans on earth are you and Kim Jong Il.

How's that one rate outta ten?

Why should he be nice to Times reporters after the bullshit story they put out a few weeks back?

To not appear like the old fart coot that he is.

At least we will know where he is at 3 am. In bed asleep since 5 pm.

Kim Jong Il.

K to the J to the IL in the hizzie.

What dumbfucks we have wrought.

Just when the think it could not get worse than Bush.

McBush.

First, I am a grumpy old man as well. I think it is a good thing to get to a point in your life where you do not put up with bullshit any more.

This reporter was being what reporters are, that is assholes. Not that that is a bad thing, I think to be a reporter you have to be that way.

She asks questions that have been asked and answered over and over. He put the reporter in their place. I have no problem with that at all.

In fact I think it would be refreshing. These people put up with so much bullshit. They need to get some counseling and learn about boundries. In my mind it shows that McCain is actually more psycholigically sound than the others.

After all poor little Obama gets all whinny after he answers 8 questions. Come on, man up, quit your whinning. Clinton enables a husband that screws around on her. Are these the traights of psycholigically sound people?

My advice to McCain is to keep it up. Don't put up with the bullshit.

"My advice to McCain is to keep it up. Don't put up with the bullshit."

I like it too. My favorite of all time was General Swartzkoff's answer to a reporter at a press conference during Desert Storm . The reporter had asked, "What's the weather for this operation?" The general winced and said, "Look out the window."

McCain is a powderkeg waiting to go off. I don't want him answering the phone at 3AM in the morning as you don't know what he might do.

So he got annoyed at a stupid question. So what. No story here in my opinion.

Do a google on McCain and anger and you will see his anger tantrums are legendary and even McCain admitted that his "quick temper" was a trait of his that offended others.

OK, it's 3 a.m. and the red phone in the Oval Office is ringing off the hook.

Who would I like to see answer it?

The cranky old bastard McCane?

Shrillery in her diamond necklace and specs?

Or Obama?

First off, Doc, tell me: Is Bill gonna be next to Shrillery or will he be in the Lincoln bedroom with Barbara Streisand?

Y'know, JEST, I'm just not sure. I do know that Bill is one reason I moved away from Hillary as a candidate (I'm done with the GOP probably for the rest of my life). He's a narcissist who's carrying a lot of weird psychological baggage. And how he'd behave back in the White House is something I would rather not contemplate and definitely wouldn't want to live through...waiting for the explosion of self-destructive behavior to take place. I have no idea what goes on inside the Clintons marriage---all marriages are complex---but theirs is one in which twisted psychologies play an especially large role.

I wouldn't vote for McCain.

However, I saw this clip. He didn't seem that angry to me. I also think he's right. The NY Times reporter was a twit and was trying to make him "angry." Anyone who pays attention to the news much at all had already heard the story about the conversation between McCain and Kerry about the VP spot ages ago.

Just wait till they stop eating his steaks and start asking him how he could have been so wrong about Iraq:

In fact, during the run-up to war in 2002 and 2003, McCain repeatedly described the prospects of war in the rosiest terms, declaring the U.S. would "win easily":

"Because I know that as successful as I believe we will be, and I believe that the success will be fairly easy, we will still lose some American young men or women." [CNN, 9/24/02]

"We're not going to get into house-to-house fighting in Baghdad. We may have to take out buildings, but we're not going to have a bloodletting of trading American bodies for Iraqi bodies." [CNN, 9/29/02]

"But the point is that, one, we will win this conflict. We will win it easily." [MSNBC, 1/22/03]

In January 2003, the Arizona Senator with the supposedly impeccable national security credentials asserted: "I think the victory will be rapid, within about three weeks." In April, McCain claimed, "It's clear that the end is very much in sight." And in May 2003, a cheerleading McCain proclaimed, "the war in Iraq succeeded beyond the most optimistic expectations."

He's ducking the question and getting angry because a reporter won't let him get away with it. If he had seriously discussed with Kerry the possibility of being Kerry's running mate in 2004 that issue would be huge with the lunatic Republican right.

When it did happen it was made to be much bigger than it was by liberals in the media. If Kerry has publicly said that he refused and McCain said it too, why should you believe anything different?

I can guess as to why. You would like it to be a big deal. Well, just because you, and your buddies on the left want it to be true isn't going to change the facts. All this reporter did was brought the fact that it was an issue at one point back into the news.

Hell, McCain has never even seriously given thought to running with a republican and he's going to take the poisition as VP with a dem? It was stupid when it came out and it's even more stupid now.

He treated the situation perfectly. And besides, I think it would help him more than hurt him if he did take it seriously. He's not going to lose republican votes over it. Do you really think that any conservative will pull the lever for Obama or Clinton? Dems, on the other hand, if they aren't happy with the dem nominee may say McCain couldn't be all bad if he almost ran with a democrat.

Hell, McCain has never even seriously given thought to running with a republican

So he was gonna go with Nader in 2000? Duh....

because hussein obama has just been named as the number one LIBERAL int he senate and I dont want him to be there at 3am because he wont do shit about it.
BLT, Dubya got 50 calls about al queda attacking prior to 9-11 and all he did was say, "make sure the saudis can get out quickly".

Face it, BLT,the GOP could run a osama bin laden against Jesus and you'd vote party line.

McCain's hot temper and impulsive nature are bothersome for someone seeking the CiC gig.

like I said ~ it's a lame duck candidacy...Remember when in Texas ~ whoever one the Democrat Primary was Governor or Senator.

That's how LBJ got in...it was either jail or the Senate ~ curtesy of the dead "Pan Handle" voters:>)
