Some liberal blogs are questioning whether in Hillary Clinton's new TV ad attacking Barack Obama for not holding any subcommittee hearings on Afghanistan, he has been given the same treatment Time magazine once infamously gave OJ Simpson -- his skin being made artificially darker.

An official from the Clinton team said, 'We are experiencing technical difficulties. The trouble is NOT in your set.'

This is interesting. I do think his color is off but don't know if it's intentional or not.

Of course the funny thing is in the ad, it says she won't be too busy...

except when she's filming bits for commercials like these.

Geez Louise....come on...get a grip Obama supporters...hey I like the guy too but come on....a slight change in lighting will have just as dramatic effect on anyone's face. This is the kind of crap that makes me think....maybe Obamaism is a cult....

It's not a lighting change, Danni, since that clip is lifted from the original feed from the debate...any change had to come in post production.

Was it intentional, or merely because the person doing post set the color levels that way thinking that it looked best?

Come on, does they could make Obama as purp....errrrr....black as Wesley Snipes and he still wouldn't be threatening.

I could never vote for a man darker than a brown paper bag.

You either get it or you don't.

Great Googaly Moogaly! He shore am black!

Sheesh, the LaBatts' are typing...

Long story short, "blacker" Obama isn't going to be any more scary than taupe Obama.

This is going to be fun.

I could never vote for a man darker than a brown paper bag.

How 'bout darker than Ovaltine?

So, I guess if someone that looked like the guy on the Cream Of Wheat box ran, Danni wouldn't vote for him.

Kareem O'Wheat?

What if he promised free health care for chain smoking bowlers with mullets?

You're thinking about it now, aren't you Dan?

A new low by Billary!

So? Is there anyone on the planet who doesn't know the man is half negro, half caucasian?

"So? Is there anyone on the planet who doesn't know the man is"....not a Muslim?

Yes. Quite a few. Gee...where'd that come from???

I've seen that much difference between brands of digital camera. There could be a lot of explanations, or it could have been intentional. I doubt if there's enough proof either way.

honestly..i think Hillary wants some chocolate :)

As anyone with Pro editing experience knows, this is intentional!

As anyone with Pro editing experience knows, this is intentional!

You think!!!!

Have any of the Obamanites even considered that it may have been to create an ominous effect?

BTW I think Hillary is just as bad a choice for President as Obama (or McCain for that matter)

the picture of him on a tractor at the houston rodeo was sillier looking than this pic of him that might have been blackened. only thing for sure will be hillary's response.
"I dont know about that"
"I dont know nuttin bout birthin no baby"
" I dont recall that"

Of course this was intentional. A classic example of Billary getting their fingers caught in the "Photoshop" cookie jar. The word subliminal ring a bell with anyone? I don't believe this is a technical problem for a microsecond. Just another in their negative ad quiver. The sooner one of these bites her in the ass bigtime the sooner she'll exit out. I'm getting really tired of her crap.

Maybe it was an innocent mistake, but it's hard to look at these pictures and think so.

and now there will be a story on cnn in a couple of mins interviewing chelsea and showing her talking to crowds and shaking hands...but if anyone were to TALK ABOUT HER in any way less than reverent, oh shit look out....because you cant bring in the children.....well unless their last name is bush and then ANYTHING GOES.

and now there will be a story on cnn in a couple of mins interviewing chelsea

This thread ain't got nothin to do with Chelsea. Go back to bed.

Come to think of it, I think I'll go to bed. Do what ever you want.

Nulli,

Sometimes video for production is saturated, and then desaturated, the darkening is a artifact of this. This is a known artifiact though....

Compare the whole video, not just the Obama clips...note the lack of saturation, on the Clinton shots, that indicates its desaturated......

Also, perhaps its a web compression artifact.....

I haven't seen this on the TV.

P.S. I saw UCLA cream UoA....damn Love looks good!

You could be right, Andrea, but I would rather just spread the meme that this was dirty politics on the part of the Clinton campaign. :)

Think of it as a preemptive attack. A Bushie like yourself should like that.

I don't condone this, but I understand....

I just watched both linked videos back to back.

They definitely made him blacker.

There is no way that that wasn't intentional, it's no "artifact" or desaturation.

It's not really Clinton's fault. White people made themselves subseptible to this stuff. She is only taking advantage of it.

He should get even with Hillary. Add another 15,000 wrinkles to the 500,000 she already has in his next ad.

Geez Louise....come on...get a grip Obama supporters...hey I like the guy too but come on....a slight change in lighting will have just as dramatic effect on anyone's face. This is the kind of crap that makes me think....maybe Obamaism is a cult....

I do some editing and production in my line of work and I can tell you it's definitely post production, not lighting. Final cut, After Effects, Avid, Premiere...any of these programs could be used to make this sort of change. Hell I think you could even accomplish this easy adjustment with iMovie on your macBook. So yea, there is absolutely no way in hell this is not intentional. It's just shameful.

It's not really Clinton's fault. White people made themselves subseptible to this stuff. She is only taking advantage of it.

Let me get this straight. So instead of blaming Clinton who's campaign created this shit you're blaming all white people? I've heard some absurd statements by apologists on this site before but this one just might take the cake. I can only hope that you're joking.

This has been going on since the beginning of politics.

It's really not an issue.

Each side picks the worst pics they can find.

If it is altered do you think it is the first time or the last?

Part of the deal.

All is fair in Love, War and Politics.

"All is fair in Love, War and Politics."

Debatable, however there's no harm in calling the low blows.

True, there are consequences to ALL actions. You just have to weigh the pro vs. con and decide from there.

Does anyone think this alleged darkening of Obama's skin is going to be the "one last straw" that makes someone decide not to vote for him? If you're the kind of person that makes voting decisions based upon complexion, it seems to me that you've already decided.

Granted, it's typical Clintonian scumbaggery. But, I don't think it amounts to much.

I think this just goes to show that racism is not found along party lines, but rather by individual people. Stooping to this level, while it will probably sway nobody's vote as the dems seem to just be voting along ethnic/gender lines anyway, is disreputable.

As stated above, if McCain's campaign did this sort of thing, he would be run through the ringer by the MSM. I hate double standards, no matter what party it applies to, especially when it is obvious. The Clintons are getting away with far too much Black-bashing in this campaign. I just hope that the Black community realizes who these people really are and stays home or votes 3rd party come November if she is on the ballot. It would seem that she see's the Black community as nothing but another tool to use to gain power.

FactCheck.org looked into this using the original ad that ran on TV as their basis, instead of the internet versions that the bloggers were looking at, and found the whole thing to be unsubstantiated.

www.factcheck.org

It comes down to the whole ad being darkened, even the images of Clinton herself, which is common in attack ads because it makes everything seem a little more sinister, and the version on YouTube being even more dark because it's a less than perfect copy.

There is a double-standard.

Growing up in a heavily-Democratic region of the Midwest, I never have been fooled into believing that Democrats are free of racism. That is a load of crap. But, it has been used by them successfully for political purposes.

Republicans do the same thing with gay marriage, et al -- all while trying to pick up guys in bathrooms and hitting on Congressional pages.

Politicians are hypocrites? Go figure.

Fuck you and your facts! We say it's a racist conspiracy and that's final. The fact you even claim otherwise just shows you to be a nigger hater, like James the Dolphin!
Sincerely,
BaramObama's

"The Clintons keeps doing things, saying things, that sound awfully racist"

"SOUND "?

Like I said dems have been pissing in the wind for years. Creating and exploiting a hypersensitive racial and class warfare environment. Helping the likes of Jackson and Sharpton to exploit every incident whether it is intentional or accidentally a matter of color. Demonizing the political right as evil black hating racists.

Now it has come back to hit them in the face. What amazes me is that they are surprised .

"Creating and exploiting a hypersensitive racial and class warfare environment."

It takes a lot of koolaide to blame the Dems for what the Repubs have already admitted and apologized for:

www.washingtonpost.com

the old "koolaide" canard...woohoo.

Of course it can be overlooked...if it is not "one of ours"

Editor's note: The photo of Condoleezza Rice that originally accompanied this story was altered in a manner that did not meet USA TODAY's editorial standards. The photo has been replaced by a properly adjusted copy. Photos published online are routinely cropped for size and adjusted for brightness and sharpness to optimize their appearance. In this case, after sharpening the photo for clarity, the editor brightened a portion of Rice's face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance. This resulted in a distortion of the original not in keeping with our editorial standards.

DAN ...I see and concede the point you are making ...but we aren't talking '68....it is 2008 and most people have come along way. Not all ...but most.

I am speaking to the exploitation of that very tension by dems to garner the black vote and then being surprised that there is such a highly charged situation where word like smoke , spadework and fairy tale are taken as racial put downs.

"it is 2008 and most people have come along way"

From the party who used the idea of a black baby against John McCain.

Not sure if this thread is still getting much play but Factcheck.org weighs in on this...

www.newsweek.com

Others will speculate about the Clinton campaign's intentions and motives, as they already have. But without further evidence to the contrary, we see no reason to conclude that this is anything more than a standard attempt to make an attack ad appear sinister, rather than a special effort to exploit racial bias as some Obama supporters are saying.

From the article.

The people who wouldn't vote for Obama because of his skin color aren't voting for him anyway. The people who are stupid enough to think he is a Muslim aren't voting for him anyway.

The ad was in no way racist, and those who think it was, are racists.

It was bad of Time to darken up OJ, but not Clinton darkening up Obama. Hypocrites.

You are still dodging the point.
Did someone doctor the photo ? I don't know...I am just pointing out that the racial issues have been stoked and exploited by dems to garner the black vote. That they should not be surprised certain words and actions cause such a racial backlash is surprising. They of all people should be more aware....more sensitive.

I don't care if you can be impartial enough to admit it with out more koolaidisms or repubs did it deflections.

I am also surprised you worry this may work on the dem voters...aren't they the tolerant enlighten party. Now if this was a smear on a black repub ,the racist bigoted right would surely be turned away from him .
Black is black but blacker is real scary to a ignorant racist rightwinger...right?

I guess the editors just didnt do the SPADE work.

And here I thought that "Black is beautiful."

Crackers...being....Crackers

Does anyone realize Senator Obama comes from the most corrupt state in the Nation?

Obama's from Louisiana? Who knew?

Hillary is from Illinois, too.

Like Lincoln (for much of his professional life) and Reagan (during his childhood).

And???

IL. these days is a cess pool of corruption

These days?I agree, but:

Maybe you weren't around during the George Ryan governorship or his tenure in the Secretary of State's office. He is in prison now.

Or, perhaps you missed the mayoralty of the first Mayor Daley of Chicago?

Or, perhaps you overlooked the point in history when Joseph Smith was able to get the legislatute to make his home town of Nauvoo a Mormon City-State.

Did you miss the year when the Larouchies won in the Democrat primaries?

I could continue. But, I'm guessing you get the point.

She stoops to conquer.

Decent play. Gotta luff Oliver Goldsmith.

As opposed to the latest bad play in ClintCo's campaign to turn Obama into merely the "black candidate" in order to try and stir up racist sentiment among the Klan desendents and, oddly enuff, the Hispanic community as well.

Bill trying to assert that even Jesse Jackson took NC and it didn't mean a thing ultimately was one slyboots attempt.

Hillary's on the down low refusal to reject AND dencounce the low blow whispering campaign, (currently available on an intrawebs nearest you), asserting that Obama is either A) a Muslim Manchurian Candidate or B) an Apostate who the Islamic world will wanna kill because of his rejection of his Muslim faith when she said "as far as I know" in a tv interview was another.

Spud doesn't want to run down the whole list of all of Camp ClintCo's rundown's of Barack Obama but they are legion.

Wonder if Hillary attended the School fer Scandal?

/Sheridan was pretty good too. ^_^

Be Well.

I hope you all don't feel too silly...

Did Clinton Darken Obama's Skin?
March 5, 2008

Some Obama backers cry "racism." We find the accusation to be unsubstantiated.

www.factcheck.org

... but then, it would be hard to tell, eh?

I just love the fact that someone like Hillary finally has to tread so lightly around race. She'll end up showing her true colors....at least I hope she does, I really do.

You mean to tell me that all that high priced talent Clinton has hired to run her campaign didn't realize what they were doing? Whether the answer is yes or no, it makes them look bad, no, yes?
