SAN ANTONIO, Tex. - An exasperated Barack Obama scurried away Monday from the toughest news conference of his campaign, telling reporters who kept shouting questions that he'd spent enough time on the grill. "Come on! I just answered, like, eight questions," Obama, looking surprised, told shouting reporters as he fled the room. "We're running late." The Clinton campaign has long complained that Obama gets soft treatment from the press corps. But Monday's exchange was no pillow fight.

It took SNL to wake up the press. They had to become a joke before they started doing what they should have been doing all along.

Maybe now we can move past the pretty speaches and start looking at the issues.

Speaking of the issues, here is an interesting take on NAFTA.

The trade issue is back, big-time. For to blue-collar workers in industrial states like Ohio, NAFTA is a code word for betrayal -- a sellout of them and their families to CEOs panting to move production out of the United States to cheap-labor countries like Mexico and China.

Our workers' instincts are backed up by stats. In 2007, the U.S. trade deficit with Mexico soared 16 percent to $73 billion, a record. Mexico now ships more cars to us now than we ship to the world. And where did Mexico get an auto industry?

It's about time the press takes off the kid gloves when dealing with St. Obama.

yeah, I guess the madrassa story, apostate story, koran story, "he doesn't have experience" story times 1000, and the "Hillary will win" story we heard 24/7 until super tuesday...those just weren't enough.

There are more stories coming: the black racist pastor, who is his mentor story, the alliance with Louis Farkkhan of the black racist Nation of Islam story, the Rezko getting him a $300,000 discount on a house story, the Rezko recruiting Obama to front for him on minority projects story, the Mrs. Obama receiving a raise more than doubling her salary upon his election story, the NAFTA behind the scenes betrayal story, the druggie story, flashbacks and how much did he sell as well as use story, the integrity issues, the victimization and black rabble rouser and black entitlement story. Why continue. The stench increases as who and what he is he begins to be examined.

He also looks physically weak, and it seems that emotionally and mentally, he can't stand up to inquires. He seems to be a weak person, whose been walking down a red carpet as roses are strewn. But now, push is coming to shove, and he is no longer a person upon whom each voter projects his own fantasy. The real Obama will emerge, and he's not attractive. He's sort of like "The Picture of Dorian Gray."

I suspect that under the dirt that's emerging there's a volcano that will erupt depicting Obama as "unclean." How do you say it in Arabic, what is "Halal" and what is "Haram?"

this is worse than magazines writing music reviews on cdz that they haven't heard.
why does american media hate our freedom?

Heavens to Hillary! The "race card" has been the trump card in this campaign.

Ah, the clustering of black voters is not racist, but the clustering of white voters is.

This is not a white racist country. Black candidates have received white votes without regard to race, and been elected in predominantly white voting districts including to Governorships, Lt. Governorships, and Senators. Why, both Mosely Brown and Obama were elected to the U.S. Senate in statewide Illinois elections, and Illinois is a predominantly white state.

There is one white Congressman elected in a predominantly black district, and the Congressional Black Caucus declined his application for membership so that he could better represent black issues of concern to his constituents.

You're right, Celisary. The media is always trying to form everyone's opinion for them and sway the direction of the election instead of just doing the reporting -- which is the only thing they should do and nothing more.

and Obama goes down for the count in Ohio, Texas, and Rhode Island.

So much for the wonderboy with all the money and the media backing him.

Just another glass jaw democrat who hasn't even been swiftboated yet.

And from the look on his face, he wasn't a happy camper. He had a right to look disappointed but lately he looks more like a child with an anger management problem.

I have a feeling that Obama isn't as homespun as he'd like us to believe.

He speaks of change, but he never speaks of specifics. In my opinion, assuming he has a liberal agenda in mind, his changes will result in going from bad to worse.

Wow, a temper tantrum at a press conference?

I never would have guessed it. I should have though. He is a democrat, and he has been treated fairly well by the media. He's gotten cozy and relaxed, and he's had the same reporters fawning over everything he's said.

So much for change for the country.

Hillary will make things worse.
McCain. more of the last eight years.
Obama. Would have a temper tantrum at the first sign of adversity in office.

So, I guess we should all vote for Ron Paul.

It's amazing to me. He's been in the race since the start. He's managed to raise a good bit of money. There's only he and McCain left, and the media still doesn't talk about him.

When people say that Americans are all sheep, sadly, they are correct.

I hear all the talk about Obama being just a speech maker with no substance. OK, tell me of the substantive things you have heard from Clinton and McCain.

"Mathematically she cannot win"

I'm no fan of the Clintons....but with a close race, and super-delegates in play, the last thing I'd be foolish enough to do would be to downplay the cunning, and gamesmanship of the Clinton machine

it's not over to 'til the fat cankles sings.

ah yes and as it was well said on another thread. its nice to see the dems eating their own.
and its nice to see the press giving some time to keeping him accountable, of course look at the option. go after him instead of going after the clinton machine. thats a win/win for us on the right.

Real people are always less exciting than imaginary ones!

McCain is not just like Bush. He seems to genuinely want to reign in spending, which W never seemed to have much interest in. That's an improvement.

Not terribly exciting, maybe, but unless the war goes bad between now and then, he will win the election.

The raise taxes and lose war platform really has never been successful, and that is what either Democrat will run on. Their only chance is if it becomes obvious the war actually is lost.

Should be interesting.

Racism ???? So if Barrack gets to be the nominee for POTUS will McCain have a whole bunch of "code words" that he will have to avoid ? Race for White House ? Swinging in the wind ? If McCain goes to a southern picnic on the campaign trail , will he be crucified for mentioning chicken and watermelon in the same sentence ? The libs will be shouting racism and pc shit no matters how McCain takes him on, on the issues . It will get ridiculous . For that reason along I hope Hillary smokes him .

As it happened, Mahtesian was more open to changes in the story than Obama campaign aides initially assumed--even as he rejected the main thrust of the Obama team's complaints.

Operating first from his home and later by BlackBerry from a Washington Capitals hockey game, Mahtesian made changes to the original story.

Among the items agitating the Obama campaign was the initial headline: "Obama support soft among Catholics."

Mahtesian ordered it changed to "Obama slow to gain among Catholics."

No, the difference between those would not be obvious to me at first glance, either.

But the two headlines give a flavor of Saturday's tussle.

The Obama campaign was infuriated by any suggestion that the candidate was getting pummeled by Catholic voters.

This is the plain cold truth. Unless the superdelegates vote against the popular vote, which is technically possible, she will not win.

If the superdelegates do vote against the popular vote, look for another 4 years of republican rule. The Dems may still snatch defeat from the jaws of victory!

'Unless the superdelegates vote against the popular vote, which is technically possible, she will not win."

How is it technically impossible? I thought I understood that the SD votes are theirs to apply as they wish, although some states do restrict somewhat, overall it is highest-bidder who gets the vote (ref: the guy in Westford, Mass who switched his SD vote to HRC after her campaign hired his company to print campaign literature).

Are SDs locked in by popular vote after all? Anyone know?

Nappy, I said it is technically possible, you even included what I said in your post.

BigJohn: I was not arguing with you, but more looking for clarification for something that i think I have been misunderstanding about how Dem SDs work.

I take "technically impossible" to mean that it is systemically impossible, which would imply that the rule is that SDs are required vote as per the popular vote in their individual state, and that they are bound to only vote that way.

On the other hand, my understanding has always been that Dem SDs are free to vote however they feel, regardless of the primary results in their states.

I was simply asking if any one knows which is correct. It appears neither you nor I do. Or if you do, let me know the answer.

Is there any way Hillary can win the nomination?
Marc Ambinder asks himself some questions about the viability of Clinton's candidacy -- and comes up with some helpful answers.

Q. Can Hillary Clinton win the nomination?

A. Maybe.

Q. Can you be more specific? Is it mathematically possible for her to win the nomination?

A. Yes.

Q. Is it likely that she will win the nomination?

A. Based on the math alone and a reasonable projection of external events, no.

Q. But you said it's possible.

A. Yes. But lots of things have to break her way. If, say, voting ends and the press discovers that Obama has a secret second family in Idaho and all his superdelegates abandon him; if, for some reason, she wins 75% of the popular vote in the states after Ohio and Texas and half the remaining superdelegates; if, by slow attrition, he closes the delegate gap to about 70 and picks off two thirds of the remaining superdelegates; if the pledged (Obama) delegates concur with the credentials committee and seat the (Clintonian) Florida and Michigan delegations) -- then, yes, it's possible.

Or, if she wins Penn, gaining the lead in the popular vote and already holding the important big states, then goes on to win Florida and Michigan (again) in the new election, she will gain the SDs needed to win.

Or, if Obama is called in the Rezko trial and we find out that the money Rezko's wife used to buy Obama's mock Mansion came from an Iraqi criminal, that could help.

I thought Florida and Michigan couldn't have primaries because they violated the rules? And wasn't Hillary the only one on the Michigan ballot (hence, her winning the state)?
