Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

A White House official who served as President Bush's middleman with conservatives and Christian groups resigned Friday after admitting to plagiarism. Twenty columns he wrote for an Indiana newspaper were determined to have material copied from other sources without attribution. Tim Goeglein, who has worked for Bush since 2001, acknowledged that he lifted material from a Dartmouth College publication and presented it as his own work in a column about education for The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne. The newspaper took a closer look at his other columns and found many more instances of plagiarism.

"No fair, Obama did the same and no one cared." -- HRC and supporters

That's good, Member! One more thing you can use against Obama for the next 9 years!

I wasn't the one who accussed Obama of plagiarism, it was the Clintons who brought up the issue.

Why is one kind of plagiarism good and the other bad? I am sured that HRC suporters are very confused about this situation.

Ooops. I just got the irony, 2586. Sorry.

8 years for Obama? Not if Hillary is the VP. People associated with the Clintons seem to have bad luck! She would be there "licking her chops" for the opportunity to replace him in office.
The farther away from her, the better he will be.

These republicans will steal anything.
Sincerely,
B Hussien Obama and Joe Biden

wifenothome ,

1. Obama would make a huge mistake putting Hillary on the ticket. All the independent voters, or many, would go to McCain.

2. Considering the creepy comparisons to Kennedy and the fact that many white-supremacist wackos would want to take a shot at him, this is even scarier.

Politicians reuse ideas, phrases and slogans from each other all the time. Deval Patrick has campaigned for Obama and recommended phrases to him for speeches; it's odd to call that plagiarism. This Bush official, on the other hand, directly lifted passages from other writers in 28 out of 40 newspaper columns, never indicating that he didn't write them.

As a journalism school graduate, he had to know that plagiarism is one of the most serious offenses a print writer can commit. I'm a J school grad myself, and I can't believe he'd be so crazy and/or sloppy.

It's incredibly stupid. I can see why he resigned.

I imagine if Tim Goeglein were a Democrat we'd be honoring him. Maybe Tim could go to work for congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana and avoid any further scrutiny or ridicule?...cuz when you're a Democrat, it's different!

"congressman William Jefferson of Louisiana"

I love it when idiots bring up that crook Jefferson, who stole a measly $100,000, yet was a piker compared to Duke Cunningham, who stole $2.4 million. Cunningham was 24 times the crook, but Jefferson gets all the press!

"... but Jefferson gets all the press!"

Cuz he fits the sterotype. And that's one one steroetype repubes are still secretly fond of.

Even the most famous line from JFK's inaugural address was lifted, though slightly reworded. It was originally spoken by Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. in 1884: "recall what our country has done for each of us, and ask ourselves what we can do for our country in return."

Why is one kind of plagiarism good and the other bad? I am sured that HRC suporters are very confused about this situation.

The difference is that Obama had permission and was told to use the parts he did and the WH official didn't have permission.

Makes one wonder who in the White House gave him the job. Or does it?

I wonder if JFK had permission?

Oh, great.

Another JFK scandal.

And only 47 years old.

And only 47 years old.

Exactly what is the statute of limitations for talking about perpetrators of plagarism? Sorry if I violated it.

It seemed more like "See, that guy did it first."

Bit of a reach.

Joe Biden? Too late to talk about his plagaristic ways? Or is he under the statute?

The point is, Ted, (and I'm sorry I wasn't more clear) is that plagarism is not a partisian activity. Members of the Left and Right and everything in between are probably guilty

Tim Goeglein was way too stupid! He committed what...Plagiarism...Sheeesh!!!
Mr.Goeglein should have followed the lead of Bush and Cheney and just committed "Treason" or "War Crimes" or sleazy "Kick Back" deals with the Pentagon and Defense Contractors, then he would have been home safe, free and very wealthy like his bosses!!!

**** White House Official Resigns over Plagiarism****

.......you know what you call a Republican whose only fault is committing plagiarism ??......a saint.....

Must've been a demo-inplant. Get his doofus ass outta there and replace him w/ another honest, conservative.

There's no such thing as an "honest" conservative. Not intellectually honest, anyway.

As for plagiarism, I thought I posted - but maybe forgot to push the "public" button - that I ALWAYS attribute other folks' pithier phrases. No one thinks I'm any less brilliant, and someone may actually infer that I read a book once. herm
