As for the Minuteman missile stuff, I was there, covering it for a local newspaper. I interviewed the terrorists, the wing commander, the chief of security and Wallace. So much for 'third hand gossip.'

You can do your own research if you care. Do a Nexus search, like I have to. The Kansas City Star did a good job of covering it.

The terrorist group was known as Plowshares (they may still be in prison). The missile site was named November 15, just west of Warrensburg. The missile was part of Whiteman Air Force Base.

Fucking mid watches sucked! Especially since I had to stand them in a dark, quiet room, very conducive for sleeping: sonar control.

AAnd mid-rats sucked. Always powdered eggs and beans.

Lots of banter even within a command. But we always hated the "real navy" aka the skimmers.

Subase New London kinda shocked me at first. Beer in a soda machine for 25 cents, and shoe polish was considered toxic. We stood inspection twice in 26 weeks of C school, and that's exactly how many haircuts I got.

The "tennis shoe" navy didn't care that much about uniforms, but you damn well better know your job and do it.

Funny thing you asked for jokes. I went to my Coast Guard required bi-annual water safety and survival course today in Houma, Louisiana. The instructor was an ex-Seal. He had a million of 'em, but I'll be damned if I can remember a single one.

Probably because my head is foggy because I was sound asleep and the front desk at the hotel here (Raddison at the New Orleans airport) erroneously called this room and woke me up. I'm so pissed I can't get back to sleep and I have to crew change in about 4 hours from now.

On the water survival course: 4 hours of it is in the water. Part of it is 5 helicopter crash simulations. We are strapped into a chopper fuselage and rolled over upside down in a pool. We have to find our way out of the emergency escape windows. Lots of fun. Glad it's only once every 2 years. The rest of the in-pool time is practicing putting on life jackets in the water, huddling techniques to conserve heat, basic lifesaving, etc. Reminds me of boot camp training a bit.

Yep, we had that at the FLTASWTRACENPAC in San Diego, too, though I only lived there in "A" school. During BE/E and "C" schools, I lived off base in a small one room house just a minute walk from the beach in Ocean Beach, CA. That was one of the best years of my life.

Same thing with inspections, but I think we had only one in the year I was stationed there. Had duty once every 27 days and even then, it consisted of standing one 4 hour barracks watch, then we could go home (or come from home for it, depending what watch we had)

We didn't do any of that except for ceremonial purposes. Silent Service and all that. And I hate to tell you that Subs have the best food, and the mess cooks would fix you something if you missed a meal.

I spent my 20th birthday in the sea of Japan strapped to a torpedo loading tube in the torpedo magazine getting the holy shit beat out of me with lengths of firehoses. A birthday tradition in AS division.

After an unrep (refueling at sea for you non-squids) each ship had their own song that was played over teh 1MC after we broke away from the refueling vessel. Ours was "Wipeout". Everytime I hear that song now I have a mental image of a huge gray oil tanker slowly peeling away from our parallel course.

Since sonar was useless during an unrep due to the noise generated by the tanker, AS division was the unrep crew up on deck pulling that piece of shotgun thrown string that was attached to twine that was attached to 1/4" manila that was attached to 1" manila that was attached to the steel rope which we had to pull in with the capstan of course.

The worst unrep was one in the N Sea. Icicles were forming horizontiall off the life ropes and vertical surfaces. I'lll never forget that one.

Fire Control A school at Glakes was a bitch. They'd hit you for a shoe shine on a rainy day. But the floors were stripped every week and fresh wax put down and buffed to a shine.

I ended up there for 9 months, and stood one watch because they found out I could cut glass and repair windows. Eventually I got to make up for that.

The information was actually more dangerous to Harry if it remained obscure. Just think if a Taliban sympathizer saw it in online and passed the info to Afghanistan. The Army would not have known Harry was in danger.

Since Drudge put in on his sight it blew up and the Army reacted and pulled Harry out.

I think the information should have remained secret but Its not Drudge's fault it came out. It was already out.

**Contrary to my first opinion on this, I agree with Drudge's decision to report the story. If it was already in an Australian magazine and being reported by Germany's Bild newspaper, it wasn't a secret anymore.

Drudge could have ended up saving Harry's life -- and stopping a propaganda coup by the Taliban -- by reporting the story when he did. It wasn't going to stay secret, and could possibly have been known to terrorists already.

Firstly, can I thank most of you for the support you have shown us Brit's in our joint and continuing struggle against terrorism. It's nice to know that some of you appreciate us.

We are rightly proud of our young prince wanting to do his job, yes, he comes from a very privileged background, but he still chose to serve in our armed forces, knowing that he was, in his own words, a bullet magnet'. The men serving with him have been suitably impressed with his leadership skills and are sorry that the Top Brass' have decided to bring him home.

The British press kept it quiet for 10 weeks -- a lifetime for the British gossips mags to do -- but they had had a deal going with the Queen and the British government:
