Finally!

I also enjoyed Wanker's (I mean Boner's) "waa waa let's all walk out" theatrics.

I doubt the U.S. Attorney for D.C. does anything with this.

from the article:

"Rep. David Dreier (R-Calif.) said the case "creates the potential to undermine the power of the first branch of government." Members of both parties drew up nightmare scenarios, with Dreier indicating that losing a court case on the issue would make Congress a lesser branch...."

So now they're bitching that Bush installed the judges they wanted. That's the philosophical bed we Americans have made: an Executive Branch which blatantly ignores the rules, a Legislative Branch afraid to codify even greater disrespect for constitutional concepts into the law, and a Judicial Branch which has overnight become so anti-person and so pro-government/pro-business.

"I doubt the U.S. Attorney for D.C. does anything with this."

Probably not, as it has nothing to do with him/her.

Doh! My bad.

Yawn.

Maybe we should fire all of congress all the way up to Bush. Hold an honest election on all new people and see what happens.

These people are pathetic. They have so much they could be doing that would actually count. Pathetic. They try to stop funding the war, waste of time. On and on it goes. These people should all be held in contempt by the citizens of the US.

I believe a 22% approval rating indicates just that.

"Hold an honest election on all new people and see what happens."

Only if we do it every four years. These sons-a-bitches get very comfy where they are, and that means they'll do anything to stay there.

Can I be added to the list? I have nothing but contempt for the current Congress.

Isn't it nice to be one of the 78% Red?

Send the US Marshals!!!!

Waterboard slimebags Bolton and Harriet.

It's not like its torture or anything.

Actually, yes, it does. Justice has to take the contempt citation and enforce it...if they don't, then this is just another complete waste of time by Repulsi et al.

The contempt vote raises the stakes between the White House and Congress in the battle over the fired U.S. attorneys and could set up a constitutional showdown between the legislative and executive branches.

The matter will now be referred to the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia.
If the AUSA declines to prosecute, then this goes away, which is my guess.

Maybe we should fire all of congress all the way up to Bush. Hold an honest election on all new people and see what happens.

Congress and the Senate are not beneath Bush. The Legislative Branch is EQUAL to the Executive and the Judicial, they just have different spheres of responsibility. I'd happily fire Bush as well, but all things considered, I think that a new Congress would rip Citizen Bush a new one in the time it took to swear in.

"If the AUSA declines to prosecute, then this goes away, which is my guess."

You're probably right on that. However, Congress actually can enforce the citations in other ways if the JD refuses.

Congress can try contempt cases itself. This happened in the 19th century a couple of times when the Senate arrested newspaper reporters in the Capitol for not revealing the source of the Senate secrets they published.

The Senate or House can also file civil charges of contempt. Under this circumstance a federal judge determines whether a question asked by Congress was legitimate. If the judge orders a witness to answer and the witness refuses, then the witness would be in contempt of court and could be fined or imprisoned. During the Watergate investigation the House cited G. Gordon Liddy for contempt for refusing to testify before a House committee. A federal judge gave Liddy a suspended six-month sentence.

The Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate has the authority to arrest anyone, up to and including the President. Not sure about the House.

All that being said - its probably DOA.

Excellent!

little more than politics...they have been offered all the information they need and its that simple. they dont want the information because they could get what they SAY they want even if in closed hearings. what they want is gavel to gavel coverage on cnn and cspan.
and besides, its a presidential issue.
but if hillary says ONE THING about it, then I am sure you guys here would then demand that she release papers that some have wanted her to and she refused. I am sure you will say that its different.

"they have been offered all the information they need and its that simple"

Horse manure. There are still three lies out on the table from the Gonzales days:

The USAs were fired because of incompetency...wait, no, that's wrong. They were fired because....

We don't know who compiled the list of USAs to be fired.

We don't know why that list was compiled.

This, to me, it the barometer of partisan hackery. Our government has, by their own admission, lied to us. Any true American would want, or ideally demand the truth from our "public servants". Kool-aide drinkers, however, think we should move along, nothin' to see here....

It's got to take an extra-thick tinfoil hat to not want the truth from The Justice Department.

dan.....you can say whatever you want. it is a known fact that the bush administration has offered on many occasions to have these two talk to congress, just not in a democrat campaign axtravaganza shown on cnn

oh yeah......five would getcha ten that someone from the left would ask those questions and then everyone would know.
yeah right.

"it is a known fact that the bush administration has offered on many occasions to have these two talk to congress"

Fuck that...tell me, DOJ, I pay your salary. Me and the rest of the American people. You folks, of all of us, should be always transparently telling the truth. Screw the secret rooms. Toss the Photo-ops with right hands raised. Have a press conference, and say, 'here's the truth, here's where we lied, we were wrong, we will take the consequences and be a better Department tomorrow.

It's insulting as an American to have those lies on the table and The Castrated Congress unable or unwilling to get to the truth.

"it is a known fact that the bush administration has offered on many occasions to have these two talk to congress"

Without being under oath. That's an important omission, don't you think?

"Without being under oath."

And no copies or transcripts.

And a promise of no further investigation.

Sounds like contempt of the process to me, even if they would have shown up.

Clinton's blowjob testimony was good enough to be aired on national TV, hell, it was even made into a best selling 'report' for righties to wank to, so why not the lying over the politicizing of the Justice Dept?

he looked me right in the eye and said.
I did not have sexual relations with that woman....but more importantly....the sack of shit lied under oath........thats a lot different than this.....which is under a larger umbrella.....executive priviledge....something we all KNOW GOOD AND WELL.....that if the pres were a dem.......we would all....FLIP FLOP on this issue............

Bill Clinton fired all of the US Attorneys when he was in office...Talk about flip flopping...lol

He didn't fire all the attorney's HE put in halfway into his 2nd term. He also didn't lie about it, and have Rove and Gonzales lie about it and obstruct justice. Then refuse to have anyone testify under oath about it
Little details.

Did I mention Bush also told Bolton and Miers to ignore a congressional subpoena?

Details: Something the "Clinton did it 7+ years ago" crowd never seem to understand.

This is pure political grand standing. These people are contemptable. They waste our time and our resources. They need to stop tilting at windmills and do something.

They did, and it was glorious. And the most partisan repulsive republicans walked out to prestaged microphones on the steps of the Capital. I laughed my ass off as Boehner spoke. The only thing that could have made it better would have been Boehner tears.

Like a bog with a bone - long after the nutrients and flavor are gone, they keep on chewing. Can't blame them, as those concepts are beyond their reach.

YEAH!

As if Congress ever does anything that "counts" for Joe American!

FF!

But I suppose there will be some who think comparing this majority congress's two years of doing "nothing" to the previous twelve years of a majority doing "nothing" is a perfectly reasonable argument.

Miers is probably telling Bush how to fill out the pardons right now.

RED

Be patient. Once the voters get rid of Bush's 60% firewall in the Senate, we'll start seeing some action.

Where is the House today? Seems like they took another long weekend.

Presidents' Day recess, starts today.

Dems get called grandstanders by the drama queens on the capital steps.

The House voted Thursday to hold White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers in contempt of Congress for refusing to testify before a panel investigating the firing of several United States attorneys.

Firing the attorneys was legal just like the drugs that dumb baseball pitcher took. Congress has been spinning their wheels far too long. I say git rid of every one of them.

I say git rid of every one of them

The fact that snippy would say "git" doesn't really surprise me.

Two things: First the House holds Miers and Bolton in contempt. Second, the House refuses to cave in to Bush on domestic spying. Are the Dems finally digging in their heels? I hope so.

Why do you attack me mid? It seems like that is the standard lib tactic when they have no arguement. Are you one of thoes loosie lefties?

The Dems have more important things to do instead of trying out how their own Democratic attorneys were replaced by others who supported the president. Clinton did it with no questions. It is standard operating procedure except when the Dems do not like it huh???

I doubt this is more than grandstanding though. By the time it is all washed out it will be several years from now and more important things will have surfaced such as the Repubs demanding to know why either Barak or Hillary fired the attorneys of the Repubs.

These idiots really need to get serious instead of taking a side road on which to perform a side show.

"Clinton did it with no questions. It is standard operating procedure except when the Dems do not like it huh???

I'm guessing Farmer John grows apples and oranges.

Steroids are legal in Snipe's World? I'm shocked; shocked I tell ya.

"Are the Dems finally digging in their heels?"

After consistently grabbing their ankles on the important issues (War funding, warrant-less wiretapping, etc.), seeing them pull it together for non-binding resolutions and orders that won't be enforced outside congressional authority (which is itself a joke) doesn't make me feel the least bit secure that they won't soon fall off the horse yet again when it matters.

I think Keven says it pretty well. The Democrats need new leadership in both houses. Personally, I think Hilary Clinton should replace Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi needs replacing too though I don't have a nominee.

They were when he was taking them! MLB had no rules against them back then.

This just hurts my head.

Most of America Finds the Whole Bush Administration in Contempt!

"Most of America Finds the Whole Bush Administration in Contempt!"

Ha! Truer words were never spoken!!

Good call Donnerboy!

And Major League Baseball probably doesn't have any rules against murder either. That doesn't mean murder is legal, doofus. Steroids were illegal under United States federal law when Clemens had his boyfriend poke him in the butt and shoot his wad.

*** House Finds Bolten, Miers in Contempt ***

......know what you call Bolton and Miers in jail...

.......a start.......

A federal judge gave Liddy a suspended six-month sentence

Ooooh that showed him!

These clowns, Why do you people elect them. there having hearings on Steroids, Pelosi is changing menus to some San Franscico Hippy food That normal americans don't eat, and all the while, nothing important gets done. Who the hell cares about two people who have been gone for a year..Fix something important, you primma donna aholes
