There are oodles of talentless hacks who somehow wrangled a record deal infesting the zeitgeist of current popular music and are exceedingly lucky to have been granted even 15 miliseconds of fame. In 10 years, not one of them will be remembered, not even on VH1's Where Are They Now.

Winehouse is different. What she brings to the party is something uniquely new--unlike a host of her current contemporaries. That she's desperately trying to burn her house down around her is such a waste. Were it mine to give, I'd grant her the wisdom to recognize that.

Not that I give a crap about Amy Winehouse, but she is a famous celerity who applied thru normal channels to come the US for a specific purpose and then leave. Meanwhile thousands of criminals pour across our borders every single day and we do absolutely nothing about it.

Winehouse Gets Visa, Too Late for Awards

LONDON -- Amy Winehouse's work visa was approved after all, but the State Department's change of heart Friday wasn't in time for her to make the trip to Sunday's Grammy Awards.

Instead, the rehabbing British singer will go ahead with the backup plan that was concocted while her visa was still in limbo: a live performance, via satellite, from a studio in London where she will also accept any awards that may come her way. Winehouse and her acclaimed "Back to Black" album are nominated for Grammys in six categories.

A rebate is a return of some of what one paid in taxes. When one who paid NO taxes receives a check, it can't be accurately called a rebate. That's why I put the quotation marks around the word when it was connected to illegals sneaking across the border at night as you described.
