What goes around, comes around. The Venezuelans saw fit to have foreign companies develop their Orinoco fields, then when the oil was about to be brought to market, they tore up the contracts. After all, what choice did the oil companies have? They just have to sit there and take it. Right?

Not quite.

Pride goeth before a fall.

Fidel Castro.
Hugo Chavez.

I guess this proves the big oil companies are evil.

You know what people bofore critisizing the oil companies just research and see how much our communist government taxes them. Exxon mobile profits for 2007, were $ 39.5 Billion. They paid over $ 29.7 Billion in taxes so they only took home $ 39.5 Billion while your mighty governemnt took $ 29.7 Billion.
Stop this haterage that is only inflicted by our candidates..Hillary owned a lot of stocks through them until september last year..Did you know that..

Hey CMS,
Are you speaking English?
Do you even have a point (other than the one on your head)?

Is Hillary one of the "communists"?
If so, why does she own stock in Exxon and why would she want a company in which she owns stock to pay billions in taxes?

Are you wearing a strait jacket?

Poor Exxon-Mobil, those selfish Venezuelans want to control the oil in their own country.

CMSA1R and how much did the gov give to exxon? You can fuss about the taxes all you want but as long as Exxon is willing to accept welfare I'm willing to let the gov take as much as they want.

Oh and you can keep trying to get people to cry about the gov taxing big oil heavily but as long as big oil is posting more profit in a quarter than most countries GDP for a year I doubt you will get too much sympathy.

Besides just think how much higher your taxes would be if the gov had to make up that 29 billion from your pocket.

"see how much our communist government taxes them."

Hahahaha. That's funny coming from somebody whose views are identical to the John Birch Society.

Delusional too.

That is certainly the truth. However, he had the option to step up and claim pride in it and chose not to.

Plus, better yet our government taxes each and everyone of us at the pump for every single gallon we purchase. Geee....but, at least it's not a progressive tax. But, you all keep loving the federal government confiscatory practices and keep hating the oil companies......because that makes lots of sense.

Hey Ray, you have this rightwing troll, Rideon, on your side. Good work! LOL.

I'd like to meet the person who'll actually think of Exxon-Mobil as a victim, lol. Chavez should apply to freeze the assets of Exxon until they pay for the oil that they stole from the people of Venezuela before the resources were nationalized.

The funds Exxon has frozen were funds going to provide subsidized food, medicine and education for Venezualans - the people who own the actual oil. Good luck winning this one, Exxon, even if you get the cash you'll still lose.

Hey Ray, you have this rightwing troll, Rideon, on your side. Good work! LOL.

They paid for it under contract.

I'd like to meet the person who'll actually think of Exxon-Mobil as a victim

That's what describes a taking without compensation.

I'm not on anybody's side. But, one thing is a fact....you are the dumbest O'Crap'O'Meter' to ever live. Just because others recognize that, it's not my problem. It's funny how the DR Left gave you the O'Crap'O' name.

Now go call your favorite DR compatriots to get to this thread.....quickly now.....hurry up.

"I don't know of anybody to your left."

I don't know anybody to your right, Ms. Rand. But congrats on getting the most worthless rightwing troll to come to your defense.

"They paid for it under contract."

Who did they make the contract with? The Venezuelan people or the oligarchy? Should contracts made with Saddam Hussein also be honored? How about contracts made with...insert your favorite dictator's name here.

...yawn, getting under your skin is so much work (sarcasm).....ROFLMAO.

Tadowe has the same talent.

"As I disagree with BillO a lot; it pains me to admit that you are correct on this one, Hans."

Thanks, JeffJ.

Apparently, it is obvious to most people that a meter is a device for detecting something.

So by calling
Bill_OReilly an O'Crap'O'Meter' the ankle-biter is calling Bill a bullsh*t detector.

And he can't even put it together to figure that out.

He thinks it is so "witty."

Everyone else (right, left or otherwise) can see right through it.

(What makes this little "saga" even more interesting is that the ankle-biter claims that the "DR left" gave Bill the moniker, O'Crap'O'Meter', whoever the "DR left" might be. Of course, there's never a link to any known left-leaning poster ever calling Bill that. Or even any right leaning poster. Just the ankle-biter.)

Hans

"Marxism is a mental disease. I've given up on trying to teach you the laws of economics."

Rightwing libertarian is a mental disease, Ms. Rand.

I don't do links.....but, you'll find it....I'm sure of it. Keep looking. Afterall, you have to be good at something in life Baby Huey.

"I don't do links....."

Yeah, you're too stupid to find links supporting whatever asinine position you advocate. Moron.

Sure, sure....but Baby Huey will find it. Heck you can look too. ROFLMAO. By the way, continue to be proud of yourself and link away.

This one blew me away last night in my response that our economy is over-regulated.

Actually, the pain they will feel, and are feeling now, is a result of under-regulated capitalism.

hmmmm.....I never address Hans, yet he miraculously shows up to address me when I'm posting. The amazing Baby Huey. I bet you got tired of everyone calling you Baby Huey your entire life.....but, you must not blame people for that. All you must do is look at your picture and you will then have understanding.

"The Marxist moron thinks our economy is under-regulated. What is he hoping for? Stalinism?"

Yeah, there is Red-baiter Ray, always calling people socialists, Marxists, and now, Stalinists. What a fucking rightwing moron. Don't you have a John Birch Society meeting to go to?

....it's so funny Baby Huey that when I am posting here and am not addressing any posts toward you I(in fact most of the time you haven't even posted once on the same thread)....that you miraculously show up and throw your Baby Huey stuff toward me. If I feel like responding at the time when that occurs, I do.....simple as that. Got it now, Baby Huey...

I doubt Marxism is going to save capitalism, since Marxists dislike capitalism. But you go ahead and hang on to your delusions that capitalism is the "end of history".

I told you and I'll tell you again. Baby Huey will find that link......or, you can go find it yourself O'Crap'O'.....get the Crap out of your ears!

But you go ahead and hang on to your delusions that capitalism is the "end of history".

On the contrary. Capitalism is the beginning of history and socialism marks the end of the US.

I doubt Marxism is going to save capitalism, since Marxists dislike capitalism.

Speaking in third person now? Marxists will be waiting for the end of capitalism for as long as Christians are waiting for Jesus to return.

"I never address Hans"

Oops:

I can understand why I wouldn't want to say why you show up when I haven't been talking to you (even when you aren't on the thread at all) and you feel so inclined to address me.
Hans

"Marxists will be waiting for the end of capitalism for as long as Christians are waiting for Jesus to return."

I'm betting that capitalism ends long before Jesus returns. But if you're so naive to believe that capitalism is the end of history...I feel sorry for you.

Legio, being a business owner I'd think you wouldn't be so in favour of Exxon and the corporate welfare they receive. That works against your interests, not for them - unless you're lining up for some federal cash, too.

And that's what bugs me about this. Exxon did invest in refineries in Venezuela not because they wanted to benefit the Venezuelan people but because labour was cheaper there than in the US. I'd say they made their money and they've been compensated more than fairly for the investment they made. They just want more money for their executives and shareholders, nothing else.

Americans already get government subsidized gas (socialist gas, in a way) and they pay federal welfare to corporations like Ford and Chrysler rather than let them go bankrupt (which is what capitalism would call for). So I have to ask if corporations are capitalist entities or welfare mommies who feel entitled to taxpayer money?

.....hehehe....even your posts mimic Baby Huey as does your picture......to be expected I suppose.

You may now do your Baby Huey routine ad infinitum and post that same thing for years now.....you know.....the partial quote of what I typed.

Actually, the pain they will feel, and are feeling now, is a result of under-regulated capitalism.

Did Chavez really think that these oil corporations would sit back and watch their capital investments be absorbed by a banana republic dictator with delusions of grandeur?

PDVSA's lenders aren't worried about
the court decisions, Ramirez said.

Yeah, I'll bet. They are sitting back right now waiting for the other shoe to drop. I'll bet Chavez is drastically working behind the scenes right now with the other oil giants to keep them from joining in the litigation.

It will be especially painful as the Tupi field find off of Brazil reaches full production in a few years and no one will give a rat's ass for the poor grade petroleum that Venezuela has to offer.

This is going to be interesting.

I'm betting that capitalism ends long before Jesus returns. But if you're so naive to believe that capitalism is the end of history...I feel sorry for you.

BTW by developing deep drilling, the Russians proved that they can find oil almost anywhere. Oil is not derived from fossils. It comes from enormous quantities of methane trapped in earth's crust when it was formed.

Did you ask an intelligent question for a change? I must've missed it.

Posted by Bill_OReilly at 2008-02-08 11:13 PM

That's a copout.

Have to go. You are free to stick to your MO and follow up with something stupid.

BTW by developing deep drilling, the Russians proved

If you are talking about deep water drilling (which is where most new production is) it was actually the Americans that perfected this technology.

Oil is not derived from fossils. It comes from enormous quantities of methane trapped in earth's crust when it was formed.

Still no concensus on that. The petrobiologists who I talk to at the dinner table on my rig scoff at that idea. AAMOF, cuttings from the hole are examined for certain fossils as an indicator for proximity to oil.

Another example against the that argument: Oil is quite often found in salt domes. Salt domes are formed from drying up seas where there was a lot of decaying organic matter.

They also told me that if current theories of the formation of the solar system are valid, it would be difficult for large amounts of methane to be produced as close to the sun as we are. Non organic methane is abundant in the outer solar system, but not the inner.

It's an interesting subject, and a lot to learn about it.

Ray -Why argue with them? Who cares that Bill and Hans are waiting for government to save them and deliver them to utopia. While they wait I am succeeding and building my own utopia. Just get out of my way is all I ask.

I cant believe it! You actually made a funny comment. Usually your stuff makes little to no sense but this was funny.

EXXON is very good at getting the courts to "pimp" favourable decisions for them! The people of Alaska are still waiting,15 years later, for $Billions EXXON owes it for damages in the EXXON Valdez Oil Tanker wreck that fouled most of the coast of that state with heavy bunker oil.

"The best thing I have read all day is Bill calling you Mr. Rand as a pejorative. "

Thanks, Mr. Galt.

The people of Alaska are still waiting,15 years later, for $Billions EXXON owes it for damages in the EXXON Valdez Oil Tanker wreck

And now -- for the rest of the story:

Actually it was one billion, not billions. And they are still waiting because the settlement, which the state of Alaska agreed to, was to be paid out over a number of years.

In 1991, the State of Alaska and Exxon reached a $1 billion natural resource damages settlement -- $900 million to be paid out over a number of years and $100 million to be paid this year, maybe, if the cleanup wasn't complete.

29.7 billion?

That should just scratch the surface when it comes to them paying their share of what this war is costing the taxpayers.

We're over there guarding oil for them to the tune of over 15 billion a year (and that was before the war).

I guess the US Military is considered a tax write-off for them.

I 'Heart' my ExxonMobil stock.

It was a contract personally signed by Chavez in 1999!

Bloomberg mentions the phrase vz used "judicial terrorism". This is a very brief review (vz used some very strongly worded attacks towards Exxon, not mentioned by Blmbrg). So now he's saying a judge in England is a terrorist!!!

Seeing that he feels FARC are not terrorists, I wonder how he defines the word?

Bill o crap never answers a sensible question, just deflects with some stupid side bar question, completely off point.

I asked him what profit margin he would approve of, and wouldn't answer. He tried to tell me 9% was the "average" yet refused to acknowlegde that WAS Exxon's profit margin. Stupid is as stupid does....

Anyway Moron Chavez's minister Ramirez said Venezuela would fight ExxonMobil's legal salvos and said the oil firm's actions would not affect PDVSA's operations.

"We are respectful of the courts and have faith in them," the energy minister said, adding of ExxonMobil, "It's not possible to talk to them."

They have more respect than Bill Ocrap

"Big Oil Strikes Back At Petrotyrants"

Exxon sends the message that playing within the rule of law is a far better means to succeed, win and play with the big boys than to break contracts, steal assets and violate internationally recognized norms, as exemplified in Chavez's Venezuela.

Last year, the power-mad petrotyrant declared Exxon and Venezuela's other foreign investors "robbers" and vowed to conquer them like Simon Bolivar taking the Andes. He hurled leftist nationalistic rhetoric against these private companies whose only "crime" was to invest in and bring jobs to Venezuela.

Waving the flag, Chavez sent his military to the Venezuelan hinterlands last year, where Exxon had a 42.5% stake in one big project in Cerro Negro. He seized that along with the assets of five other oil companies and called it victory. Exxon's investment was worth at least $4 billion, but Chavez refused to pay market compensation.

This comes at a bad time for Chavez. Oil production is declining as his state oil company becomes increasingly politicized. Its earnings are being diverted from investment and maintenance to pork-barrel social programs that have nothing to do with energy.

A record sell-off in state oil company debt since news of the injunction broke has raised Venezuela's cost of borrowing at a time when it is having cash-flow problems. There are signs Chavez and his oil minister are running scared, calling the freeze "judicial terrorism."

By breaking contracts and rewriting rules as they please, they no longer have as much access to the cash and conveniences of the West because they are isolating themselves. This raises questions about the invincibility of petrotyranny.

And that's what bugs me about this. Exxon did invest in refineries in Venezuela not because they wanted to benefit the Venezuelan people but because labour was cheaper there than in the US.

Does EXXON as a company really have to enhance the welfare of a foreign nation? No, Venezuela makes a ton of profits from oil as well. Hugo Chavez is a communist. Many companies use cheaper labor, look how China is growing, that's because of it's cheap labor. There is nothing wrong with building or investing in refineries for the company to make more money. None whatsoever. If you want to stop the oil madness, build a car that gets 150 miles to the gal. If you want to use more farmland for other things besides corn, stop using bio-fuels. Complaining about EXXON and believing they are so evil because they make a ton of money doesn't solve anything!

EXXON pays billions in taxes, the more money they make the more they pay. There is nothing wrong with a company making a lot of money!

Gee anti cadillac, powerful stuff there...NOT..... didn't bill and hill trade futures on wall street? Or is that only republicans who are allowed to do that.

I see you did not bother to READ the stories or maybe you might have seen this....Judgement comes from ENGLAND, NETHERLANDS and NETHERLANDS ANTILLES.

Now tell us ANTICAD AND ALL DR LEFTIST EXXON HATERS,
why did they have Exxon come in and develope their oil fields ANYWAY??????????

There is nothing wrong with a company making a lot of money!

Nothing at all wrong with making a lot of money....
Unfortunately, as an individual I am taxed at a much higher rate than the wealthiest companies. That's the part that isn't really fair. I work for an Oil company and they posted record profits for the last 3 quarters.

"Poor Exxon-Mobil, those selfish Venezuelans want to control the oil in their own country."

Really its just a case of two scumbags trying to screw one another. In many disputes, particularly when this much money is involved, there is no "good guy".

Next step: "USA freezes Exxon's assets".

The people of the United States of the World have decided that they can't take it anymore with Exxon's abuse of the common good for the personal profit of a few billionaire executives. As part of this effort the religious right in Amerika are to be reminded that the word they keep taking literally in the Old Testament is prophet not profit.

until we get the politicians off their payroll...

When there are this many billions of dollars at stake, it is no surprise that all parties involved are fighting tooth and nail. And that includes governments (The US and Venezuela) and the largest corporations (Exxon and her sisters). This is simple reality. It may on some level directly affect us the lowly consumer in an economic manner, but I am not exactly clear how. The bigger impact is political and cultural. (Boo the socialist venezuelans government. Hurrah for the big US corporation. And so it goes.)

Now chavez says, again, he's going to cut off the oil exports to the US.

Well who else will refine his heavy crude?

"Now chavez says, again, he's going to cut off the oil exports to the US. "

Good. I hope he does. Maybe Americans need a good slap in the face to realize they don't have a god given right to the world's oil.

I love my Chavez and I hate Americans!

Obligingly so,

Billy'O'Crap'O'Meter

Stupid troll.

Don't talk about the O'Crap'O' like that Alex....he is free to post about his love for Chavez and his hate for Americans.

WOB.

The question is, is he living under Chavez since he likes him so much. If not, why?

How long are we going to allow ourselves to be blatantly ripped off by these bastards?

Till you start driving a 150 mile per galloon. There is an old saying, the less oil you use, the less profits those corporations and Hugo make...

Apparently, the only leaders that "MikeWarrior" likes are toadies to the U.S. Nothing new here.

The only leaders the O'Crap'O' likes are those that sieze assets and that hate Americans.

It's spelled "seize," Gollum.

Not that I would expect a little chickenshit like RideOn to know how to spell.

Thanks for picking up the typo....it was most generous of you to correct the only item that was incorrect in that particular post. Thanks again.

"Thanks again."

You're welcome, chickenshit.

(Dave the Exxon Slave!)

The Clintons and the Bush's' are just different wings on the same fascist vulture. This makes them perfect puppets/henchmen/stooges for the really powerful, really fascist organizations (Mafias) like EXXON! How many thousands of innocent people has EXXON and its Big Greedy Oil Clones, disposessed, tortured and murdered in foreign lands? The number of EXXON and the American Oil Mafia's "victims" in Iraq and Afghanistan is now around a million people.

It is interesting though to see EXXON has its operatives posting (lame) rebuttals here! I wonder how much they're paid - and if its in silver?

p.s. EXXON is still refusing to pay Alaska the $Billions its owes that state for the massive ecological nightmare it perpetrated there known as the EXXON Valdez Oil Disaster!

Well, here's a 100 mile per gallon bicycle coming your way:>)

www.revopower.com

Cool link Bani. $600 for a wheel seems pricey. Maybe for a whole bike. Still it's really interesting way to travel the bike trails. We have the Katy running along the Missouri, and rougher trails down in the Ozarks. Put a knobby on it and ride.

"p.s. EXXON is still refusing to pay Alaska the $Billions its owes that state for the massive ecological nightmare it perpetrated there known as the EXXON Valdez Oil Disaster!"

This is true. They owe 2.5 billion dollars, which they are trying to weasel out of.

At 15 pounds that wheel is HEAVY. A 25cc motor is gonna drive the rider batshit. It would be like a model plane engine or gas weed whacker running flat out 4 feet from your head. You will still have to pedal to go up any kind of hill and your speed will drop to about 8 with a stiff headwind without pedaling.

Better to just put the $600 towards a purchasing a real bicycle. Damned near infinite gas mileage and some health benefits to boot. Too bad the tires and some of the other bits are made from oil, but you can't have everything.
