A distasteful comment about Chelsea Clinton by an MSNBC anchor could imperil Hillary Rodham Clinton's participation in future presidential debates on the network, a Clinton spokesman said.

In the age of pundit "one-upmanship" this kind of distasteful thing seems to happen more and more. Everyone wants to be more over-the-top than the next guy/girl and things tend to get out of hand.

Fortunately, I refrain from watching CNN or MSNBC except for debates or primaries. NPR seems to be just fine for me.

Chelsea got pimped, Shuster got pimp slapped.

Well, at least you and Corky can agree on this. So maybe these pundits are acting like "uniters not dividers".

Yeah, Hillary is really going to give up free air time these days......

Many, she is going to get free sympathy airtime out of this. This stunt only helps the Clintons and their martyr facade, which is another reason why I am upset with Shuster. He has essentially helped Hillary get her message out for free.

Not disagreeing with you TM but as far as this statement goes:

"I, at this point, can't envision a scenario where we would continue to engage in debates on that network,"

I call BULLSHIT!!!

Or maybe he forgot to envision that they don't have any money....

It was a lousy thing for Shuster to say, no question. But I can already see an emotional, teary-eyed public moment on the horizon as Hillary reflects on how the savaging of her daughter has effected her.

By the way, isn't this the same Howard Wolfson who stood on live TV during the Shaheen debacle and used the words Obama, drugs, and cocaine together 3 or 4 times in quick succession?

When is Bill O'Reilly going to be suspended for saying things that are "beneath contempt" and disgusting.

Oh, I forget, that is how they get the ratings up over there on Faux News.

By the way, isn't this the same Howard Wolfson who stood on live TV during the Shaheen debacle and used the words Obama, drugs, and cocaine together 3 or 4 times in quick succession?

No, that was Jabba the Penn who did those things on Hardball. The same Penn who's been paid $4.3 million by Hillary for his expertise. The same Penn who's company represents Blackwater.

No wonder she ran out of money....

Hillary now has a major cable news network calling her daughter a whore...

I expect her to ride this all the way to the nomination... her supporters had already been suggesting that they favored Obama...

She's been playing the woman/victim card for a while and it was getting old. MSNBC just restacked the deck.

Both Bush twins went into full campaign mode in 2004 for their Daddy
Where were the comments about them at the time? The silence is deafening.

WAIT A MINUTE...erin can call our president names on national tv....
newsbusters.org

...and not get into any trouble....but when something is said about the clintons there are suspensions....boy does MSNBC have a polictical bias or what.....MSNBC is a political hack station

All planned crap of the Clintons with shuster being paid on the side.

Nothing new here, just the same lying, cheating, and shystering ways of Clintons and especially hillary.

For God sakes, Chelsea is 27 years old, she can take care of herself. If Chelsea did want to be whored out by her mother she would just say no.

Best thing Obama can do is come out and chastize MSNBC as well and really forcefully. The Clintons know how to play the vicitim card really well and this should boost their numbers among women. All Obama can do now is make himself look like an angry father - that's his best hope here.

The really pissy thing is that Obama had nothing to do with this, yet he will be the one who suffers.

Conspiracy-addiction is such a hard habit to break.

The Clintons know how to play the vicitim card really well

Yeah, all they have to do is act like the Obama does after Bill speaks.

Let's face it, the Victim card is 1/2 of Obama's momentum right now.

Bill is such a meanie......

Give me a break TM. Obama has the Victim Title tacked on his campaign door.

If I were Hillary I would call a press conference about this incident and tell the media that David Schuster's remark had actually made Chelsea cry and then Hillary's eyes should well up with tears as she's speaking to the reporters. Worked the last time Hillary got all teary-eyed -- she won the New Hampshire primary.

midiman is corky incognito I see.

Some of us remember the reality of clintons and their backdoor shystering ways.

If I were Hillary I would call a press conference

Or maybe she could go cry to Kennedy and he could tell Schuster to "Pipe Down".

Schuster is pretty sassy. I've seen him host the show and back people down who were spouting bullshit. It is pretty a nasty thing to say, but the comment wasn't directed towards Chelsea - he was upbraiding her parents.

Yet the Romney gang was out enforce, McCain drags his mom around the country like a piece of luggage, Michele Obama is commuting, and meanwhile Huckabee is getting the kind of room service we all dream of...so be the perks of a preacher man.

LOL

So yes, it was foul.

The good news for Obama is that it's one less host for the debates that the Clintons want.

I voted for Obama in the primary, but will support Clinton in the general if she's my only choice.

Sorry if I don't share your blind hatred and your penchant for believing the worst about her - not big on conspiracy theories, myself. I'm more reality-based. After all, she is my senator here in NY, and those of us who know her don't hate her, tend to vote for her ... in large numbers.

The Clinton campaign is getting hysterical and whiny.

Pimping out is the new vernacular, live with it.

Hillary is a fine woman that no one should find viscerally repellant. But, Hillary has used her husband's career as foundation for her own. She has not had to overcome obstacles and picked NY precisely because it offered her the path of least resistance toward her ultimate goal, not because she longed to represent the people of NY state, imo.

The same cannot be said about Obama. While many have assisted him, he's had to do all the heavy lifting himself. He did not build his candidacy upon anyone else's, he created his own campaign from the ground up and has been far more successful than anyone could have imagined if they hadn't followed him doing the same things every step along the way ofhis politic career.

I fear Hillary is too divisive for the general election. That doesn't mean she can't win, but the GOP has far more ammo against her than they do against Obama.

Midi,

Yep, don't believe in White water, no one died at the clintons hands, and all the law documents where secretly placed there for good reasons.

I don't need to believe the worst about her, it is all available in her history but I tend not to turn a blind eye towards those who are suppose to represent me. It kind of reflects upon me.

The only pimp is Shuster--Have you seen the way he pronounces "Hardbbaaallll"..

I mentioned this last night about the Clintons goint to the Super D's and talking with them about voting for Hillary.

I didn't know they would send their daughter.

Notice all the outrage is directd at Shuster--and rightly so--but why was Chelsea going directly to super delegates and talking with them about voting for her mother--no such talk--it's all scrambled against Shuster.

Was she promising "tenative offers" of employement in Hillary's administration? Any cabinets posts or ambassador posts to where ever offered up.

Hmmmmm. So Shuster won't get to be in the debates--real loss there.

That's ridiculous. Bad behavior is bad behavior, and Shuster's remark was simply rude adn unneccesary in a discussion among adults about the candidates for the Presidency. "Rude" may be old vernacular, but I think'll resist the temptation to excuse it just because it may be "in" to do so. There's nothing wrong with manners, and no reason to abandon them to score a few cheap points.

This and another 3 or 4 doses of similarly trivial crap is likely to decide the election. Forget about Iraq, the economy, health care, immigration and the candidates' positions on them and concentrate on haircuts, age, tears, pantsuits, skin color and what idiot anchors and pundits say. So much better to choose your president that way. How's that workrd out these last seven years?

She's been playing the woman/victim card for a while and it was getting old. MSNBC just restacked the deck.

This definitely plays into Clinton's desire to play the sympathy card. No doubt this will help shore up the women's vote. sigh

So right Pap, but with daddy's office in Harlem you know it touched a nerve.

Considering all the ugly duckling comments that the R-W talk shows threw at her when she was a kid, she'll keep her head up and on course. This is no different.

Schuster did look contrite on Morning Joe. Another victim of the PC Press.

MSNBC Reporter Begrudgingly Apologizes For Chelsea "Pimp" Comment

I don't think he was begrudging in his apology at all. Unfortunately, he was right about one thing: all the postive things he said about Chelsea are being overlooked.

www.huffingtonpost.com

Is it any wonder the press hates the Clintons? One thing for sure, if Hillary wins the nomination, she will bring out a lot of anti-Clinton sentiment, not just in the media but in the country at large. Personally, I'd rather avoid that whole scene. Once was more than enough.

It's time for a change.

Nobody called Chelsea a whore. It was a metaphor--something that I suppose will be lost in the ensuing uproar. double sigh

DAMN
I had Schuster as number one on my
Fantasy Talking Heads Game to replace
Tucker.
Guess Rachel Maddow now moves up.

"well, at least he din call her a nappy headed ho!"

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Honestly, from what I see of Chelsea she has grown into a competent and poised young woman, and in spite of what was no doubt a very mixed up homelife during adolescence. But as others have stated here, she is 27 yrs old, and as, as an adult, made the concisou decision to enter the public fracas of the campaign. To say she is off-limits is not credible. To imply she is whoring, though, is unseemly.

Schuster just wants to yank on No-Bama's tool (read: big fag)

I still can't believe there are so many people who think Obama is the second-coming PLUS the reincarnation of MLK, JFK and RFK.

Hey... no offense to YOU NappyHeadedHo! You are right that Chelsea is a public figure now and as such is fari game...whether they like the outcome or not....I mean really just what until the RETHUGS unlease the dogs of election warfare!

I think as Gal_Tuesday so aptly points out ... expect more of this from the Clintons...it is how they operate. No one has called Chelsea a whore ... on the contrary ... they called the parents Pimps!

I too am sick of the whole Clinton scene... time to move on.

We have a country to save!

Obama 08!

The Clinton campaign is getting hysterical and whiny. Pimping out is the new vernacular, live with it.

Seems like an invented controversy to me, too. I've used the phrase "pimped out" often, and it didn't seem like I was calling the object of the sentence a whore.

When is Bill O'Reilly going to be suspended for saying things that are "beneath contempt" and disgusting.

First of all when has O'Reilly called the daughter of the candidate, a Senator and former first lady a whore for just campaigning for her mother. So you'll have to give some examples of things O'Reilly has said that even comes near that. If O'reilly is guilty of saying things that are "beneath contempt" just because you disagree with his assertions, then so is Matthews and Olberman. Guess it all depends on which side you agree with.

But all sides can agree -- that saying Hillary is "pimping out" her daughter for her campaign is way over the line.

2nd, O'Reilly, like Mathews and Olberman is a pundit, a poltical pontificator and not presented as a "journalist".

Shuster, on the other hand, is advertised as a reporter for Matthews show - and that automatically comes, or should come with a responsibility to keep personal opinions about the stories of the day in check.
www.msnbc.msn.com

His use of the term "pimping out" is pejorative on its face and unbecoming, to the say least, for someone who bills himself as a journalist.

Little bowwow gets all sanctimonious, and even learned a new word from the story - pejorative.

Naturally he twists the statement until her parent's pimping out translates to calling her a whore.

All in the figurative sense, so of course little bowwow will be saying a week from now that he actually used the word whore.

Same old crap.

Mary Cheney cries FOUL!

About someones daughter though... I think we've all used it many times in a variety of situations... I know in hospitals when a higher up MD is asking questions of the younger ones they call it Pimping. I'd think I'd be kind of annoyed if someone said I was pimping out my daughter though...

The guy shouldn't be fired or anything like that, but an apology is probably needed.

I think the Clinton's will probably ride this wave for a while though.

A macaca moment.

But openly forgiving this guy and requesting for his reinstatement would make the Clintons appear magnanimous. A golden opportunity.

I am so sick and tired of the people lacking sense of humor. What happened to tolerance? Words do not kill. She is the same woman that forgave her damn ass husband for pimping the oval office but she can not forgive Schuster. Give me a break...this Clinton machine is just playing a gender victim card. I do not care much for MSNBC especially for Keith Olderman but what happened to the freedom of speech? Is not she the one calling Bush cowboy all the time....? Give me a break madam/sir/communist Hillary..is this how you are going to run your government?

Hillary you are so hated you have no clue. You will see the end of your campaign very soon....VIVA LEWINSKY, VIVA FLOWERS, VIVA VINCE FOSTER

No Democrats to debate on Fox or MSNBC. The Clinton Machine has spoken.

When will Olbermann apologize? Ooops, my bad, I mean Matthews. Ooops again, I mean Colmes. Dawg gone it, I mean O'Reiley.

As if butter would melt in Hilliary's mouth!

I wonder now if Anchorman Shuster had stuck to real facts in his commentary, maybe saying things like the Oval Office,Bill Clinton,Blow Jobs etc.would he still have been so rigorusly reprimanded and suspended?
On the other hand I'm very suprised that someone like Hilliary, who promotes herself as so prim and proper would even know the meaning, let alone become offended by,the words pimp and whore?

"in Hilliary's mouth"

I can guess what hasn't been there in a while.

I'll be supremely pissed in Schuster loses his job over this crap. Not very PC, but the sentiment was correct. If Obama dragged his kids out in front of the camera you can bet the Clinton campaign would cry foul.

I'll be caucusing for Obama tomorrow morning!

right....if No-Bama gets the nomination, start practicing saying "President McCain"

Posted by CLINTONISKING

Repeat that enough, and you might convince yourself it's true...

".if No-Bama gets the nomination, start practicing saying "President McCain"'

You misspelled Hillary Clinton.
The only way I'll vote for her is if McCain has that idiot Chucklehead as a running mate.

"right....if No-Bama gets the nomination, start practicing saying "President McCain""

So your saying we'll just have to learn how to say "President McCain" anyway. Cause no one divides the populace and unites the republicans like Hillary. Rush and Coulter are not analysts, they are entertainers. They get paid for criticizing things...just in case context escapes you. So the current conservative "back-lash" against McCain is really just a fart in the wind.

Obama, on the other hand, has independents and a few republicans ready to support him in all the areas democrats usually struggle (no one is worried about CA and NY). If he can't beat McCain, no one can.

I find that difficult to believe. And so do many conservatives.

Kevin,

Regarding Obama vs. McCain...

I think McCain has broader appeal among moderates - moderate Republicans, indies and moderate Democrats.

Were the race limited exclusively to that demographic, McCain would win.

However, the race encompasses much more than that.

Obama fires up the Dem base as well.

McCain - not so much.

Obama's popularity among the Dem base more than makes up for the difference he loses at the middle IMO.

If McCain wants to have a chance against BO, he needs to find a way to package himself toward firing up the Conservative base. Unfortunately for him, the Conservative base is not easily won over.

In short, I believe McCain will have an extremely difficult time beating BO if BO wins the Dem primary.

I, for one, am outraged - absolutely outraged - over Shuster's remark. Saying such a thing about Chelsea Clinton!

Now if he'd said it about Caroline Kennedy's support of Obama- well, let's just say I coulda lived with that.

* smirk *

In short, I believe McCain will have an extremely difficult time beating BO if BO wins the Dem primary.

Everyone, here is a link to 2000 Electoral breakout. I have no doubt Obama could beat either person (HRC and McCain) in popular vote, but how does he crack the electoral? What state that Dubya 'won' can Obama bring to the blue column?

www.infoplease.com

I believe Obama screwed up by criticizing HRC in Florida. She did not campaign, but thanked voters in a meaningless primary. The people in Florida WILL count in November and they carry a lot of electoral votes. He should have just ignored it at a minimum. Now, he alienated old people, conservatives, the military (Tampa & Pensacola), along with just about any person in Florida who follows politics. He cannot win Florida. So, which state does he grab?

If you think he can take a southern state, think again. ALL white people vote the same ballot in Nov. So, the black vote will not bring him to victory in winner take all Red Block States.

As much as HRC struggles against Obama, she will win Fl and Arkansas, 2 states Gore sorely needed. She could steal a few others too with the Hispanic vote.

I think Obama mania is great, but I really don't see him winning an Electoral College. These Repub loudmouths can say whatever they want, they will be pushing McCain hard in the fall. And this is without the 'swift boat' or 'I invented the internet' attacks looming.

The Clinton's are whores.

I think the pimp comment was quite appropriate.

I do think the comment was inappropriate. He was right to apologize. Perhaps a suspension is called for as well.

However I am a bit shocked that so many people get upset about this sort of thing that seem to have forgotten that Bill Clinton seduced Monica Lewinsky, a 22 year old intern in the White House. I am sure her parents were disgusted and upset. Their daughter was humilated and I don't recall an apology by the Bill Clinton at the time to either her or her parents.

The comment towards Chealsea was wrong, but seemed accidental. Perhaps the Clintons could show some compassion for David Shuster as oppossed to just moral indignation.

I really dont see this as a big deal. I think its an age thing. Anyone 35 and younger has used this term without thinking. Besides being a Pimp or Big Pimpin' is a good thing. What about pimping one's ride, or pimp juice, it a commonly used term. Its really nothing. Is everything offensive now?

Peace our my pimps.

Peace OUT my pimps!

I demand an apology captainoface!

The fix in in for the Queen of Hiss to win--whether she wins with the delegates outright thru the primary process or by the Super delegates at the convention. Hiss will win.

This will cause a great uproar within the Dem party--Why? Because the Hiss will not pick Obama as the VP.

There is no room for three presidents on the Dem ticket--Hiss, Bill and Obama. And there is not time for the party to heal before the election--August 28th to Nov 7th--No--not enough time.

The media loves Obama--but there are not enough caucuses for him to win--Billary wins--sorry..

And Hillary will not win the General against McCain. He has time to bring the party together. He needs the right VP pick and it won't be Huckabee.

I am still working--so will visit later...

Jeebus Q. Public, can't anyone see a huge swath of "poor poor Hillary" here?
MY GOD PEOPLE, IT'S MSNBC.
They might as well call the writer's strike over - WAG THE DOG, BILLARY!!!

I'm getting very sick of MSNBC, since they started trashing and dissing Hillary on a nightly basis,, why aren't they "reporting" about Obama and his connections to his criminal friends like Rezko in Chicago??

Because the media loves Obama..

Murphy

For nearly a month now I have written in this blog and others about MSNBC's hatred for the Clinton's. These people have a love affair with Sen. Obama, an have used every hour of there air time to be critical of everything the Clinton's have done.

Russert, Matthews, Shuster, Geist, Scarborugh and most of the Ladies have consistantly been on the Clinton's Ass. I am a Liberal Democrat an have for the most part have been a fan of MSNBC but they go to far. I never taught I would say it but Fox News have been much mor Fair and Balanced as far as the Clinton an Obama race is concerned. Who would have thunk it!!!!!!

I dont think the individual commentators on MSNBC (or on FOX and CNN) express their own particular viewpoints -- even if they happen to have their own shows like Chris Matthews. They spout the line and the agenda their corporate bosses want them to follow and, if they don't, they're soon looking for a job with another network. That's how the game is played.

"CALIFCHRIS"...No doubt what you say is true, this is why Fox News, is not really a news channel but an arm of the Republican Party. 99% of the time clearly they follow the Republican talking points, but to give them props they have for the most part been fair to the Clinton's, but they see whats going on they don't have to be attacking the Clinton's when they see that MSNBC is doing there dirty work for them.

The talking heads that we're subjected to morning, noon and night have become way too enamored of themselves. Supersized egos who attempt to influence elections with casual innuendo. Hatred for one person or one candidate fairly oozes as they smile at the camera with mock innocence.

Repubs or Dems, I'm sick of the lot of them. I'm sick of their lies of ommission and their over-hype for ratings. I'm sick of their infighting and backstabing.

Mostly I'm just sick and tired of being told who I should vote for because "they" seems to think I'm stupid enough to be influenced by juvenile partisanship opinions that have no relevance to the overall welfare of this country.

I'm sure there are viewers who hang on every word of someone with whom they agree but I'm not one of them. I have no respect for anyone, be it celebrity or pundit, who assumes that we, the public, cannot make a decision without their help.

You will never hear me say 'Poor Hillary"..this is no fragil damsel in distress we are talking about. She is tough as nails, and obviously a threat to some of the men on this site. But the media's love affair with No-Bama and it's outright hatred of all Clinton's can be seen for what it really is. Face it--Put Schuster and Hilary in the ring together, and you know who would win in a TKO.
HILLARY '08

But openly forgiving this guy and requesting for his reinstatement would make the Clintons appear magnanimous. A golden opportunity.

On Talking Points, Joshua Marshall argued that the Clintons are doing the right thing by showing the networks who's boss. Democrats have done that to Fox News and it's been effective.

As for protecting Chelsea, it seems a bit weird to me that she's still getting kid-glove treatment as a 27-year-old adult who is campaigning for her mother. But the premise of Shuster's question was wrongheaded. There's nothing weird about relatives of a candidate working for that candidate.

There's nothing weird about relatives of a candidate working for that candidate.

What is weird is the clintons have always tried to keep the kid outside of politics and that arena. Now she enters the mix but still expects the kid gloves to be used.

This mixed bag of messages from Hillary is the exact shystering garbage the clintons.

Funny how they always come out smelling like a rose.

The dew is off their roses, and has been for a number of years,in my view. We don't need another lying piece of shit like Bill in the WH.

"We don't need another lying piece of shit like Bill in the WH."

Whaddaya mean "LIKE" Bill. If she wins the election the REAL Bill will be there....AGAIN!

Please, Lord, no more Clintons, no more Bushes.

Let's hear a big round of applause for Romney's five (5) sons who served their country so proudly working for their father's (the earthly one) campaign.

And while we're at it, let's all give a high five to the Bush twins who hit the campaign trail to tell us what a good Daddy they had.

And don't forget McCain's aged Mother. (Bless her soul).

How many times have you seen Obama's darling little girls scampering around the stage, planting the image of perfect domestic tranquility.

I didn't hear Shuster charging any of them with being pimped out.

I hope Shuster get's a very long suspension . . . the permanent type.

In fact, I think I'll turn this post into an e-mail and send it to MSNBC.

I am no fan of Romney but he and his children were widley ridiculed for not serving in the armed forces.

I wonder if Clinton sends our sons and daughters to war would Chealsea go?

That's EXACTLY what they are doing to her, pimping her out

"If Barack wins I know a lot of virgins in hell are going to loose their virginity.."

Makes a very powerful argument for women to lose their virginity before dying.

Hans

Racist ignorance does little to forward your arguments.

But this is America and the Freedom of Speech allows folks like you to demontrate your ignorance.

"When is Bill O'Reilly going to be suspended for saying things that are "beneath contempt" and disgusting. Oh, I forget, that is how they get the ratings up over there on Faux News."

Get a grip! I have a "Special Comment". Allow me to quote your 'Great One'.

"That, sir, is not only un-American, it is dictatorial. And in "pimping" General David Petraeus, sir, in violation of everything" Keith Olbermann September 20.

Now explain why he is apologizing to the Clintons about "pimping out"? Either he is hypocritical and/or it is a standard pMSNBS term. Should he apologize along with O'Reiley?

Oh, I forget, That is why pMSNBS ratings stink.

at least he didn't call her a "nappy-headed ho'"!

In a conference call with reporters, Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson on Friday excoriated MSNBC's David Shuster for suggesting the Clinton campaign had "pimped out" 27-year old Chelsea by having her place phone calls to Democratic Party superdelegates on her mother's behalf. Wolfson called the comment "beneath contempt" and disgusting.

Chelsea wasn't doing anything different than what most grown children of candidates do, i.e., campaigning for her parent. Shuster was wrong to single her out in this regard, but Hillary is wrong in claiming his comment was "sexist". Calling someone an attention whore or a media whore is pretty common place, and there is nothing sexist about such a comment. Hillary wants to be a superdelegate whore, and she asked Chelsea to do some leg work for her. In that regard, Shuster was right: they were pimping her out. Not that there is anything "weird" or unusual about that. If anything it's business as usual in political campaigns. By playing the gender card, Hillary was hoping to appeal to her base--women. Hopefully, most women won't fall for the tactic. Personally, I resent her playing the gender card in this instance.

Also, in an interview I heard today, Hillary was asked about Obama's "momentum". She claimed that he didn't really have any and the fact that he had folks like Ted Kennedy come out in support of him didn't really mean much. I thought that was a hypocritical thing for someone who was having her daughter phone superdelegates asking for their support to say.
