Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Saturday, February 09, 2008

For just over three minutes on Saturday morning, TV talk show host Montel Williams owned the hosts of Fox and Friends. A former Marine and Naval officer, Montel lectured the stunned hosts on the stupidity of spending air time on the death of Heath Ledger, rather than covering the war in Iraq. It was a spectacle rarely seen on live cable television, as Montel exposed and condemned both tabloid "news" shows and much of American culture for what they have each become: shallow and greedy. Three minutes into this awkward segment on Fox, one host cut off Montel in order to go to a commercial. Montel did not return after the break. Four days later, after 17 years as a television host, Montel lost his job.

"on the stupidity of spending air time on the death of Heath Ledger, rather than covering the war in Iraq."

You mean like all the air time the Democrats and Republicans are not apending on it during the election and debates?

Thought so.

Montel fancies himself the male Oprah. Sorry honey, ain't room enough for two diva's on these airwaves.

Bend and sanp.

FUCK FOX. Rupert, why aren't you fucking dead yet, you criminal Aussie bastard?

it doesn't pay to turn on ANY news program anymore with all the sensationalism and no news - remember anna nicole smith - what a bunch of garbage and wtf cares - HEY NEWS STATIONS - GIVE US NEWS - THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY!

leave these starlets to the national enquirer.

i'm sorry about montel - he's right however.

Why do we spend so much time watching news about nothing? Hours and hours on the death of some movie star or some highschool girl in a foreign country is nuts and means nothing. Reporting it is one thing but hours and hours of the SOS is stupid. Tabloid has come to TV.

SNIPER:

You sure hit that nail square on the head.

anybody that takes six of any combined medications is asking for trouble.

OR DO YOU NEED TO PUT THAT ON THE FUCKING LABEL?

the six drugs I would like to take all at once.

1. herion
2. ecstacy
3. cocaine
4. turpentine
5. starbucks triple shot latte
6. flintstones chewables

I gotta feel my pulse. I agree with Nancie and The Snipe. Where we disagree, in all probability, is that dumbing down the American public via teevyland is a Republican plot. The corporate boardrooms WANT to keep folks preoccupied with Ledger, Spears and Anna Nicole, because if folks start thinking about those REAL issues - the Iraq war, poverty, health care and global warming - the party of Nixon, Reagan, Bushes and McCain is in even deeper doodoos. herm

Next on FOX:

Paul Reubens goes off.

THEN:

Paul Prudhomme.

STAY TUNED, IT SHOULD BE ELECTRIFYING.

Slight chance that the Geico Lizard will also appear and go off.

Network news should cover stories that have substance. But it also survives by human interest. There is a balance to it. Hence covering happenings on celebrities attracts viewers.

Montel should have said something like, we're covering celebrities, maybe sometimes a little too much; let's also etc.... and point to areas that needed covering.

I gotta feel my pulse. I agree with Nancie and The Snipe (Herm)

Me too. That's twice in a week I've agreed with Sniper. I need a vacation.

I think Montel knew hiw show was being cancelled and took this opportunity to re-incarnate his TV personality in another show like Bill Maher.

I have no doubt he meant what he said. I also agree with Herm. Republicans require an ignorant population. Trying for Intelligent Design in schools is a good example. Trying to force poor women to give birth to unwanted fetuses is another. "Just Say No" was another. It seemed like a sales program for drugs to me.

However, the reason those shows are on is because they have ratings. Consider that vast numbers of people who boost those ratings are voters.

I didn't even know Montel was still on the air.

What did he say that could possibly have gotten him fired? He is absolutely correct, and something tells me he'll be back before long.

This from that guy that has Sylvia Brown on his show emotionally raping parents of missing kids.

Fuck 'em

Talking to and about celebs is only good when it's Montel doing the show?

Na, I'm sure he got sick of the crap they kept feeding/forcing him to cover on his show too and he finally blew. Ours is a shallow culture, I'm sure Cspan probably has 1/100 th the viewers that the sit coms and reality shows attract.

You'll find something else Montel. You no longer NEED the money and that's always when you find your sweet spot.

Best of luck.

"Why do we spend so much time watching news about nothing? "

Yeah, we need to go back to the days when NBC, CBS and ABC made it up as they went along to fit their agenda.

Wait, they still do it?

Montel?

What he said applies to all the network. But since he was appearing on FOX and addressing FOX employees, singling out FOX does make sense.

I would hardly consider that as "Going Off" - I was expecting a Geraldo type chair throwing incident and you give me a man that is eloquently stating his opinion, which, he was asked to give. Isn't this the guy that has helped provide affordable prescription drugs to folks that couldn't afford them? Honestly though, I haven't seen a Montel show since I don't know when and Sylvia Brown is a charlatan.

Fox News like the Republician party they represent, need fear to succeed. On Friday they couldn't contain themselves when they reported that two diesels trucks were stolen, God you would have taught that Osama Ben Laden himself took those trucks to make a bomb.

On three different show during the day the Female host was almost driven to Orgasim, just reporting the story. 9/11 and the tragedy of it was an will be used by Fox News and The Republician Party they represent, to keep there audience in constant fear. By the way what every happened to the Color terror warnings that this country was recieving every day pryor to the Elections of 2004???

I love posts like this from certifiable retards. It's the Dems who constantly preach fear: fear of Social Security reform, fear of Social Security collapse, fear of tax cuts, fear of deficits, fear of global cooling, fear of global warming, fear of Medicare reform, fear of tort reform, fear of oil companies, fear of big pharma, fear of Alar, fear of losing the rain forest, fear of school vouchers . . . .

As to Montel, he himself is a creature of the very thing he's criticizing. It's he who made a career out of dragging pathetic, shallow families into the limelight for an hour at a time. It's he who played on so-called "daytime drama" programs. Yes--some troops died in Iraq over the past few days. But I can't honestly recall him becoming so exercised during a certain previous president, when dozens died in the Khobar Towers bombings, or on the USS Cole, or in African embassy bombings, or in combat in Somalia. How many shows did he devote to them? He could have, had he wanted.

"I love posts like this from certifiable retards."

Just like going to your family reunion, right?

Since when does Montel have a right to a holier then thou attitude about TV programming.

For example, here's the Montel's show summary of January 25, 2008

But we'll show you some simple and fun ways to bring the sexy back into your life! Also, based on the show summaries, Montel has not even done one show focusing on the Iraq war this year, however I have counted 5 shows built around psychic Sylvia Browne since Jan 1st.

Kinda. I have a lot of liberals in my family. Matter of fact, after reading through some of your posts, I wonder if you're my former mother-in-law.

good link Bowa.

Really he lost his job over this?

His show is owned by Fox and he went on a different Fox show throwing a temper tantrum on live television Fox decided not to pick up his show...

That's really surprising...

Maybe I should rethink my plan of going into my supervisor's office on Monday and calling him a fuckhole... It sounded like a great plan!

Montel lectured the stunned hosts on the stupidity of spending air time on the death of Heath Ledger, rather than covering the war in Iraq

Here is the sum total of Montel shows which focused on the troops and/or the War in Iraq:

2008: None
2007: January 25th, March 13th, September 7th.
2006: November 22nd, December 21st and 22nd
2005: November 25th
2004: None
2003: None

www.montelshow.com

So much for the self-righteous Montel using his talk show as a bully pulpit for insight into the Iraq war.

I was thinking of flying out to my companies office in San Diego next week, going to the first desk I saw and taking a huge crap on it...

Nobody can get mad at that right?

As long as it goes into the "Out Box", I can't see any objection.

Sep 14, 2007 ... Rita Cosby Discusses Anna Nicole Book On Montel Williams Show

In an exclusive interview, journalist Rita Cosby will speak to Montel about her new controversial book Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith's Death. You won't want to miss the explosive allegations she shares with Montel surrounding the death of Anna Nicole! We'll meet some of her sources that she says corroborate some of her shocking claims against Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead. Peter Nygard (an ex-boyfriend of Anna's), Don Clark (a former FBI agent, working privately), and Donny Hogan (Anna's half-brother) have never before appeared with Rita on any other show, but today they will lend their first-hand knowledge of Anna, Danny, Howard, and Larry. Throughout the entire show, Julia Allison, an Editor-at-Large from Star Magazine will chime in with what Larry and Howard's responses have been to the book. We will also explore the shocking allegations against Idaho Senator, Larry Craig, who is accused of soliciting sex from another man in a Minnesota airport restroom. Dina McGreevey, who lived through a similar scandal, when her former husband and then-Governor of New Jersey, Jim McGreevey, revealed he had an adulterous affair with a male aide, will provide incite into how Suzanne Craig is feeling, as she stands by her husband's side. We will also have a member of "the Log Cabin Republicans" here to comment on the political ramifications and legal updates of the case. A media expert from GLAAD will discuss how unfortunately, in cases such as this, the Mark Foley case, and the McGreevey case, the "sexuality" headlines often trump the legal facts.
* * * *

His web editor doesn't know the correct spelling of "insight". Sounds like an interesting show, though. Speaking for myself, I just couldn't get enough of the Anna Nicole Smith or the Larry Craig story. Maybe I'll order the transcript and the videotape, and buy the books.
By the way, isn't there a war on somewhere?

I have counted 5 shows built around psychic Sylvia Browne since Jan 1st.

If she cared about Montel, you would think she would've warned him about what might happen.

Not surprising the defense of Fox and the repudiation of Williams by the republicans. It's not like any of them can tell the difference between "news" and "entertainment".

I'm not repudiating Montel Williams. I'm certain he'll show up on another network, pretending to offer the American public--and millions of people just like you--"entertainment". After all, he's had a show for over ten years, and could only muster a few hours on the troops he pretends to care so much about. But when his demographic is stay-at-home liberals, better stay with the Anna Nicole and pole dancing.

Sorry bro, but it's been proven time and again that the Republicans are the party of the Chickenhawks. Where's that list at?

Or do mean the Liberals who would like everybody to stay at home and not just themselves and their kids? I fail to see a fault in that viewpoint.

Oh, and, I really suggest to everyone that, if you have the chance to watch TV from practically any country other than the US, do it. It's amazing how good television can be when you remove the quick-sell, short attention span factor. Try BBC World for starters.

I'm sure you don't. It's that viewpoint that inspired, "Vote Democrat. It's easier than getting a job."

Not surprising the defense of Fox and the repudiation of Williams by the republicans.

I don't watch either... I'm just not shocked he was fired. You can't deliberately fight with and try to embarass coworkers in just about any work environment and not put your job at risk. Maybe Montel thought it was worth the risk, but he's retarded if he's surpised by the result.

"RIGHTISRIGHT"..Take your hand off your Dick, go find a dictionary an find the words "FEAR" AN "CONCERN"...All of those issues that you stated are real concerns for all Americans no matter what side of the eisle your on. Fear, the driving force of your Right Wing Government, has been a tool for the Republicians since the second World War.

FEAR: RUSSIANS, BLACKS, CASTRO, IRON CURTAIN, TERRIOIST You fucks wouldn't have a Party if not for Fear, Fear that someone ine the World is comming to get us. THIS SHIT IS GETTING OLD!!!

THIS SHIT IS GETTING OLD!!!

There's the door...

I'm sure you don't. It's that viewpoint that inspired, "Vote Democrat. It's easier than getting a job."

Vote Republican, No jobs will be here so you can keep you normal status.

Hell of a choice.

FEAR: RUSSIANS, BLACKS, CASTRO, IRON CURTAIN, TERRIOIST
* * * *

Uh huh. Well I speak Russian, and am engaged to a Russian girl. Near as I can recall, it was the Democratic Party that tore itself apart over civil rights, and it was the first Republican president which freed the slaves. Slaves are black, right? And the first attempted overthrow of Castro came under Kennedy, then by Johnson--both Democrats, if memory serves. The Iron Curtain was rightfully feared by freedom-loving people everywhere, but--correct me if I'm wrong--wasn't it Kennedy who gave a big Berlin speech? Wasn't it Kennedy and Johnson--again--who feared the "domino theory" in Asia, and committed hundreds of thousands of troops to stop Communism there? And fear of terrorists? I dunno. I'm not really scared of them, per se, but I'd rather they be dead than alive, and would rather we blow up them, instead of the other way around.

Democrats. The Party of Fear. And, you're right. It does seem to be getting old.

========
You're kidding right? If any party is the party of fear it's the republitards. Every speech Bush utters contains references to a possible attack and terrorists. If they wanted to be here they would. We have open borders. How many bogus foiled attacks did Bush claim to have interecepted? All of them if I recall. Bush wants to fight everyone just in case they might be a threat in the future. He is swinging in the dark at things that aren't there.

LOL. Really? For sure he doesn't seem too eager to fight any immigration battles--isn't one of the criticisms of him that he DOESN'T want to seal the borders? That he's TOO cozy with some Islamic regimes, but not with others?

Bush has us fighting Al Queda in Iraq. You say, let's not. Which is fine, that's what elections are for. But the people blowing up American troops in Iraq are the same ones that were blowing them up in Khobar, in Somalia, in Yemen, blowing up Russians in Beslan and Moscow and Spaniards and London and Bali. Now if you think this war will just stop when Obama or Clinton pulls the plug in Iraq, you're welcome to your delusions. But to say that I'm fear-mongering just because I know a little about the Islamists is kinda goofy. Just because Presidents Clinton and Carter didn't take the jihadists seriously doesn't mean that the jihadists themselves didn't.

But if you try to do anything with Social Security, or Medicare, or try to present any data that conflicts with the so-called "settled science" of global warming--suddenly the fear-mongerers on the left will have you thinking us righty-tighties want to throw grandma on the street, just in time to be pummeled by rising sea levels. It's stupid. The Dems have more professional fear- and grievance-mongerers than the Republicans ever have, or will.

www.globalpolicy.org

For you RiR :)

Rightisright - the blogger of stupidity.

But if you try to do anything with Social Security, or Medicare,...,

Why should we take SS money from our elderly -- oftentimes their main source of income after retirement -- in order to give those tax dollars to Bush so he can fight more illegal wars like the one in Iraq which was all based on false intel.

Republicans' motto: War profiteering first, corporate welfare second, anything at all that might help the American people -- a distant third.

last two paragraphs shouldn't be in italics

Why should we take SS money from our elderly -- oftentimes their main source of income after retirement --

Posted by CalifChris

And thats the fear-mongering. Both sides are guilty of it.

RiR says "do anything with SS", Chris turns it into "Take SS away from the elderly", effectively shutting down all debate.

Why don't you ask what plans he has for SS, or even recognize that SS has a solvency issue?

And RiR, you gotta admit the crys of "terrorism" on every policy exchange this administration has participated in has been a bit much.

I was thinking of flying out to my companies office in San Diego next week, going to the first desk I saw and taking a huge crap on it...

Leaving a pile of crap in an office?

Nah...They'd just think you were still sitting there.

If any party is the party of fear it's the republitards. Every speech Bush utters contains references to a possible attack and terrorists.

When will idiots like this ever get it?

Never.

GWB is not the founder of the republican party. He only won 2 elections because the stupid fuck democrats willingly choose the biggest pussies they can find to nominate.

"GWB is not the founder of the republican party."

You're quite right- he didn't found it.

He just foundered it.

GWB is not the founder of the republican party.

Tell that to Limbaugh/Hannity/CPAC/
Republican Congress. These guys are quick to evicerate Mccain for his immigration stand, yet barely hiccupped when the prescription benefits plan slid past Jr.'s desk. Out of control spending never got mentioned by the party elites and mouthpieces.
GWB was a conservative choice through and through, they can't disown him now.

Bullshit. I can do whatever I want. Just like people who disown the Clintons.

Or are you saying there is a standard waiting period?

Bullshit. I can do whatever I want. Just like people who disown the Clintons.

Or are you saying there is a standard waiting period?

Posted by eberly

So you only claim to be a Republican when they do something good? I don't understand the thinking here. GWB was the Republican candidate for President. He worked with a Republican Congress. The last 6 years of American policy have been directed by a Republican Majority. If you are a Republican and voted/spoke out as such over the last 6 years you share responsibility for those policy decisions.

I myself voted as such during the first election, and therefore share some of the blame, I quickly regretted my decision after the first budget came out. I voted differently during the second.

Rush/Hannity/Coulter/Ingraham/
Levin have been some of the most vociferous supporters of the last administration, and are recieving the backlash now.

So which is it eberly? Are you a Republican who supported the last 6 years, and therefore share some of the blame? Or were you a republican 8 years ago, took an 8 year hiatus, then started being a Republican again this year?

"Bullshit. I can do whatever I want. Just like people who disown the Clintons."

That's ok. The Democrats are going to wrap Bush around George W. McCain's neck.

Montel Williams is really a piece of work. He made a career out of hosting "white-trash TV".

Who is he to tell FOX how to operate?

Montel is a complete embarrasment to the Naval Academy as well as the Marines.

Montel should say "Good riddance!"

His call on Fox's tactics was on the money. He will find better work elsewhere!

Montel Williams was right the money.

The amount of time FOX NOTHING NEWS devotes to bullshit stories bordering on gossip is nothing less than amazing.

Endless hours day after day devoted to complete crap stories like:
Natalee Holloway
The Duke LaCrosse Rape Case
Anna Nicole Smith

Anything to take attention off the ignorant idiot in the White House and his administration who have torn our country to shreds economically and thru world opinion.

But you can bet your sweet ass that if a Democrat were in office right now and had saddled this country with a Bullshit $1 Trillion Dollar war....FOX's agenda would be much different...Just like it was when they stuck Bill Clinton's Blow-job in our face every night for a solid year.

This incompetent, Mega managed fuck you call a president is the result of the Dems picking a looser to put on the ticket.
