No, the headline is "MITT QUIT"

Well there is a shocker. Actually, it does show that he is at least a SOMEWHAT competent business man. It took him quitting to make me realize it though.

How a Mormon thought he could win the Republican nomination, given the white evangelical stronghold in the South, is beyond me. This guy's goose was cooked before the campaign ever got started. When 30% or more of your own party believes you worship Lucifer in your underwear, you're screwed.

Actually Wis watching and talking with people involved in the RP campaign is very refreshing and restores your faith that a lot of people deeply care about where we are today and where we are headed. The young people (and a lot of people that care about young people having opportunities) that support RP see him as their chance at a fair and unburdened life of liberty and freedom in this country.

But sadly, the race is no longer hilarious, just mildly amusing... Will this fir up the Paulies? Unless he's blown it on coke and hookers, Ron has got to have a bunch of cash socked away. Agreed, I'm no Mormon, but my best friend of 23 years is. Southern Bigots... um, I mean Baptists who don't understand that Mormon's believe that Christ is the Son of God (who came to America), their Lord and Savior, and the only way to salvation, really harpooned any chance of having a Christian (yes, Mormons are Christian)as President by voting for who their preacher told them to vote for rather than doing research and being free-thinkers. Such a shame that so many people are such ignorant sheep. And I thought the South had come a long way... evidently only on the DNC side.

"...Baptists who don't understand that Mormon's believe that Christ is the Son of God (who came to America), their Lord and Savior, and the only way to salvation, really harpooned any chance of having a Christian (yes, Mormons are Christian)as President..." Yeah. Its weird isn't it? When you take a religion and skew it to your own liking (they even have a name for it: blasphemy), the originalists tend to get upset. Jews never did accept Christianity as the same as Judaism. Must have been the whole "magical son of god" thing that made people shake their heads in disbelief. I can't imagine why. Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb.

forums.abc.go.com CPAC to all CPAC-ers: Don't boo McCain During registration last night at the Omni Shoreham a registrant was asking to upgrade his CPAC package and then proceeded to ask what time GOP front-runner John McCain was going to speak today. "Oh good," he said to the response -- answer: 3 p.m. today-- "I hope they boo him out of the room." "No, no no no no" came the reply from the person registering him. "We've been instructed to tell participants not to boo McCain." "Are you kidding me?" the shocked CPAC-goer asked. "Well we want to seem above democrats and we don't want the booing to be the story," the CPAC person declared. When asked for a response CPAC's Ian Walters told us: "We would hope that our folks would be polite and give him a fair opportunity to be heard."

When pollsters offer voters hypothetical matchups, Mr. Obama does better than Mrs. Clinton against Mr. McCain. For example, a Cook Political Report poll of registered voters released this week found Mr. McCain beats Mrs. Clinton, 45 percent to 41 percent. But Mr. Obama beats Mr. McCain, 45 percent to 43 percent. The latest Washington Post/ABC News poll found similar results. -Go Obama -Sarge

It is so funny to listen to talk radio these days. Person after person is calling expressing displeasure with the rights choice of presidential nominees. But wait, here comes the host with his powerful voice telling you to support there candidate of choice. Usually this works becuase the right were such insular, easily influenced listeners. But I think even hard line conservatives are tired of this crap. America is not about what we have seen over the last 7-8 years. America is about living and letting live. Enjoying prosperity, educating our children and being happy, good fearing citizens, that is it. The right has made attempt after attempt to take these things away. For them all of these things are still offered but only in a fashion of which they approve. Mark Levin, Hannity, Savage, Rush and the rest of you, can't we all just get along-which is all John McCain is saying. And now that you cant promote Mitt any longer, the only choice you have on both sides is someone you dont agree with. I say conservatives should separate from the republican party and put forth there own candidate. Conservatives dont like moderates anyway so why not.

Chris, I don't think you were necessarily that far off. It was pretty obvious that Romney was the "Golden Boy" for the corporate types. I also think you would have been correct if he had gotten the nomination about Jeb. The thing is, the conservatives within the Republican party are, as it appears, losing power by the day, which means that the corporate types misjudged which horse to back in the primaries.

Who cares? As far as the Republican nominated goes, whoever it is is going to suck. Not to rule out the democratic side, who will also be nominating a crappy candidate. The 3rd party gets my vote once again. A wasted vote? You can think of it that way if you want, but I'm still hoping that one day all of you assholes will wake up and see that you are the ones who are wasting your votes by continually voting between piss and shit when there's a perfectly good candidate in a third party.

Incredibleplum, The vast majority of the sheeple in this nation are too brainwashed to vote for a 3rd party candidate. That is the way the 2 party system wants it. More money for them. If there were three, four, five or more viable parties then the influence that any one corporation could extract via $$$$ would be reduced. Real candidates would emerge rather than just pinheads that the $$$ wants and real change could come about. Until that day we are stuck choosing between dumb and dumber for government office.

The principals of real conservativism is to allow competition to drive us to new products and better service. Two parties allows us to still think of ourselves as a democracy while at the same time limiting competition as much as possible.

""If there were three, four, five or more viable parties" then they would be forced to form coalitions which would then in essence still be the two party system. In a democracy one group wins by bringing the most diverse group together to form a majority. Don't you ever wonder why third parties can't get traction??? It's because they can't form a majority without being exactly like the existing two major parties. As soon as they start making the compromises necessary to form a majority they become just renamed Dems or Republicans. We live in a country with a two party system. If you are so disgusted with both parties then you should join one of them and change it from within.

You may be right, Danni. But this is why I've always thought that formal political parties should be shut down. With no political parties for people to cheerlead behind people would be forced to choose a candidate for their ideas. I know this could never happen in the wonderful world of reality, but it's at least a nice thought.

Yeah, when you skew religion to make it mean what you want like the ENTIRE PROTOSTANT REFORMATION! All evangelical protostants have done exactly that; picked what elements of Catholocism they like and turned it into Methodist, Baptist, Church of England, Church of God, etc. Need I remind you that opposition to religious bigotry is precisely why this nation was founded.

I vote thinking about who I believe has the best interest of the US at heart, regardless of what party that person is in. Usually that person just happens to not be in the 2 major parties.

The American Party's position on "War" isn't bad. I actually agree with them about a few other things, it appears. It also appears that, all things considered, they're probably nuts. Anyway....from their website: /> "War Our military involvements in Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia, Kosovo and the Persian Gulf were undeclared wars. We, therefore, would require that foreign military actions cannot be pursued more than 72 hours without a declaration of war by Congress. We denounce any no-win policy as treasonous. It is immoral to draft anyone to fight in an undeclared war. "

A number of moderates around the country have been working together on a Platform for the Moderate Party. This draft Platform is a work in progress that sets the framework for an innovative and evolutionary new political party. The Platform is responsible on fiscal issues and inclusive on social issues. A final Platform will be developed at a later time, ideally at the Moderate Party national convention in 2008. If you join the Moderate Party and have comments about the Platform, we ask that you record them for future discussion. Government Spending and Taxes The Moderate Party supports lowering federal spending and paying down the national debt without compromise to individuals, families, and seniors of American citizenship currently in need of Federal assistance. The Moderate Party supports a simplified tax code, including the Fair Tax or Flat Tax. The Moderate Party supports closing tax loopholes for corporations. International Relations The Moderate Party believes that the United States must return to its primary role as international peacekeeper. The Moderate Party believes that although the United States may disagree with other nations' politically and/or socially inhumane ideologies, where those nations have not directly threatened American security, we do not have the right to preemptory invasion. The Moderate Party believes that the United States must seek economic and diplomatic recourse in bringing corrupt and inhumane governments to justice before the world court, resorting to military recourse only in coalition with other nations in an action sanctioned by an international governing body. Defense The Moderate Party supports a strong national defense. The safety and security of the United States is of utmost importance, including securing our borders. The Moderate Party supports thorough, verified intelligence to ensure a strong defense. The Moderate Party supports sensibility with regards to defense spending, including, but not limited to, the following: Maintaining a balanced defense budget. Auditing federal contracts as necessary to ensure proper billing. Avoiding conflicts of interests in awarding government contracts.

Environment The Moderate Party supports protection of our environment to ensure clean land, fresh air, and pure water for ourselves and for future generations. The Moderate Party opposes sprawl development by encouraging smart planning, livable neighborhoods, and historic preservation. The Moderate Party supports alternative sources of energy that can individually or collectively meet demand and are also environmentally responsible. The Moderate Party supports public transportation to lessen dependence on the automobile and improve the quality of our land, air, and water. Religious Freedom The 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution mandates the separation of church and state. It is also supported by the 18th Article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The results of this separation for our country has been a vigorous religious life coupled with a relative lack of religious persecution. The Moderate Party supports the separation of church and state as the guiding principle that truly guarantees and enables religious liberty for all Americans.

Firearm Responsibility The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states "a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The Moderate Party supports the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. The Moderate Party also recognizes that any firearm ownership requires responsibility for the same. In recognizing this responsibility, we believe: That education in the proper and safe use of firearms is fundamental for all new and underage firearm owners. We therefore support legislation that encourages citizen education in firearm safety and use. That both firearms dealers and gun owners have a responsibility to prevent firearms from getting into the hands of criminals. We therefore support legislation requiring background checks on all firearm purchases. That firearms dealers and private individuals who distribute arms to those citizens deemed unfit for ownership because of prior felony conviction, declared mental incompetence, or deficiency in education on proper firearm safety and use, are in effect acting irresponsibly. We therefore support legislation penalizing those firearms dealers and private citizens who act in such an irresponsible manner. That parents, as the primary role models and shaping forces in the lives of their minor children, are accountable for the actions of their minor children. We therefore support legislation that holds responsible any parent or guardian who allows their minor children illegal access to their firearms. Finally, the Moderate Party supports the enforcement of those laws currently in existence that penalize citizens who use firearms in the commission of a crime. Women's Reproductive Rights The Moderate Party supports a woman''s right to choose, but is hopeful that the decision to go forward with the termination of pregnancy would be made only under the most extreme circumstances such as rape or incest, or if the life of the mother is otherwise in danger. The Moderate Party does not support the termination of pregnancy in the third trimester except under circumstances in which the life of the mother is otherwise in danger. The Moderate Party supports the minimization of pregnancy terminations through education (to include birth control and abstinence) and through greater access to birth control. Recognition of Unmarried Partners In agreement with the principles expressed in the Moderate Party's philosophical statement: The Moderate Party supports the creation of civil unions to provide economic and familial benefits to mutually consenting adult couples. The Moderate Party opposes any Constitutional Amendment which sacrifices legal recognition of the committed relationships of consenting adult couples on political, economic, or religious grounds. Although we understand that the federal government must at times, in the interest of the American people, pass legislation limiting our personal liberties, we feel this legislation should only be passed through laws and the government should never use the constitution of the United States to restrict personal liberties.

IN all liklihood, if we had a draft, we would not be in Iraq right now. The last thing this country or any country wants is a professional army. A citizen army will never side with the government against the citizenry, not true with a professional army. All volunteer = professional army. The draft was never advocated by supporters of the Iraq war because they knew it would create dissent and force a withdrawl of troops. Any of y'all remember the sixties??? The draft was what created all that dissent which has been mysteriously missing during this disaster.

ONe other important feature of the draft....we wouldn't be using the "back door draft" and be forcing some poor volunteer to serve three or four tours of duty in Iraq. If America goes to war the burden should be spread as evenly as possible throughout society. Try telling the mother of some guy killed during his third or fourth tour that a draft would be "slavery".

I'll be highly amused in Huckabee quits before Paul. Posted by RevDarko Who? Posted by Rob_The_A_Hole I am going to laugh my ass off when Paul causes McCain to lose the election to Obama in November. R.P. is staying in the race, even if he has to run as an independent. He will be taking millions of votes away from McCain as an Independent and if Hilary gets the Dem nomination, then he will take millions from her (no so much from Obama) Republicans are just too idiotic to know how stupid they are. Ron Paul is the only candidate who is able to beat Obama (or Clinton) as a Republican. Anyway, I love to see people like Rob_T_AH squirm when R.P. screws up McCain's chances. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

"IN all liklihood, if we had a draft, we would not be in Iraq right now." -Danni I don't disagree, Danni. Like many black and white decision, no matter which way you choose this argument there are negative consequences. For the reason I respect such an opinion, but the US ideal is that we have individual freedom. If we can be forced to fight in a war that we don't believe in we are unable to practice these individual freedoms and may even die as a result. A government that forces you to do something that greatly increases your chance of dying is, in my opinion, a coercive government. I'd rather not be a part of that. Besides, the fact that we fought in Vietnam over 3 decades, even with a draft, isn't all that comforting. A draft hasn't really stopped war as our country has been in a state of almost constant war since WWII.

"fair draft"?!?! I am sorry, I hate to be rude, but that sounds like a ridiculous idea and furthermore it is an oxymoron because there is nothing fair about being forced to go fight a war. Only Statists believe there could be such a thing as a "fair draft", only people who believe that State perrogatives override individual Liberty, which is contrary to the founding values of our contry.

Machiavellian move. I actually kind of admire it. What I think's going on here is orders from On High (read: Rove Machine) to step aside to clarify the Republican race for the nom as soon as possible, in favor of the most palatable candidate possible. Since the Dems are still duking it out, that gives the Rethugs a little more juice than they had before, and Gawd knows they're gonna need it in November. The elephant brigade now has one clear message, and almost ten months in which to sell it. Pretty swift, Karl. Not Swift swift, but swift.

Gotta say Mitt's surrender was one of the most drug-addled and whiny speaches I've heard in a long time. He blamed everybody but himself for his failures-would have made a good replacement for Bush. maybe he should have said something about his flip-flopping all over the place and his fantasies about his family's role in historic events. Oh yeah, that war on terror Mitt, any of your five sons gonna sign up now? Didn't think so. btw, Now that Romney has surrendered, Dobson has come out in favor of Huckabee.
