Peter Wehner: Barack Obama is not only popular among Democrats, he's also an appealing figure to many Republicans. Former GOP House member Joe Scarborough, now a host on MSNBC, reports that after every important Obama speech, he is inundated with e-mails praising the speech -- with most of them coming from Republicans. William Bennett, an influential conservative intellectual, has said favorable things about Obama. So have Rich Lowry of National Review and Peggy Noonan. And so have I.

Hasn't anyone looked at the man's voting record?

Maybe they like him because he does not have an IQ that matches his shoe size, unlike the Current Occupant.

"have an IQ that matches his shoe size"

Aw, c'mon, that's not fair...

Bush's feet aren't that small....

Let's be real here girls, I am sure his IQ is much higher than either one of yours. Your hatred of Bush is actually pretty pathetic. I actually feel sorry for you people.

We prefer Obama because he isn't HILLARY!! When given a choice between two "losers", you pick the one that would do the least damage.
Why do you think Bush made it for 8 years? You think we LIKED him?????

When given a choice between two "losers", you pick the one that would do the least damage.

I would have said the aliens from Independence Day couldn't have fucked America over more than Bush.

I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE THE BUSH IQ CHALLENGE! SIGN ME UP!

furthermore, it is in the presentation. does Yale not offer any speech, writing, etiquette and grammar classes?

I don't think Obama will beat out Hillary, however, when Obama talks you feel like he is talking with authority and clarity. I will definitely give him that.

Hey Dick! Did you see that black guy? He is one of them well spoken people. He doesn't have to rhyme to make sense. AMAZING!

Repug reason to vote for Obama.

He is the kind of guy I would like to have a beer with.

Really, I cannot figure out why my Republican in-laws are voting for Obama. I still do not know why they voted for Dubya twice.

This pretty much sums it up for me:

Among the effects of the Obama-Clinton race is that it is forcing Democrats to come to grips with the mendacity and ruthlessness of the Clinton machine. Conservatives have long believed that the Clintons are an unprincipled pair who will destroy those who stand between them and power -- whether they are political opponents, women from Bill Clinton's past or independent counsels.

When the Clintons were doing this in the 1990s, it was viewed by many Democrats as perfectly acceptable. Some even applauded them for their brass-knuckle tactics. But now that the Clintons are roughing up an inspiring young man who appears to represent the hope and future of the Democratic Party, the liberal establishment is reacting with outrage.
"I think we've reached an irrevocable turning point in liberal opinion of the Clintons," writes Jonathan Chait of the New Republic.
I have listened quietly while republican friends of mine (yes, I have a few here in SF) have said this exact thing for the last 15 years, and only now have I reluctantly come to understand their point. I think that many republicans have resigned themselves to the fact that they are going to lose the White House, and feel that Obama is the best of the choices that the Democratic Party is putting up.

Obama '08.

Many Republicans and others who voted for George W Bush are now so full of anger at the Bush/Cheney total screw-up that they will vote for Obama if he is the nominee, because they are simply not going to vote Republican, and they wouldn't vote for Hillary.

Yes I have, he is a moderate liberal, like most of Americans, even if they do not realize it themselves.

The Repugs and the right wing had their chance and screwed everything up.

You're asking snippy a substantive question? lol

You must be new here.

Obama is self censuring in order to gain broad appeal (Pat Buchanan)

Obama is self censuring in order to gain broad appeal (Pat Buchanan)

Every human being self-censors. Certainly every politician does.

You can't possibly mean to imply that Bush has always been completely frank and honest with the American people, do you?

Not at all. Have you read any of my Bush rants???????

I only mean that Chickenhawk Republicans, that seek market dominance through military dominance, don't really know Obama's heart. He is the "Liberal" Democratic Candidate and Hillary is the "Conservative". Media management of those labels in this country is critical to winning the votes of all the poor Republicans in this country that never have enough sense to vote in their own best interest. Poor Blacks know better, but not the larger poor white group never has a clue.

Do you mean the big O's IQ is less than 12? I had no idea. Thanks for letting me in on that.

Most of the issues I looked at were a "no vote" Now there is a stand for something. What did you find wheel nut??

the only thing that would derail obama IF he gets the nomination is a Condoleeza Rice as VP for the repubs

You can't possibly mean to imply that Bush has always been completely frank and honest with the American people, do you?

I don't think ANYBODY would ever imply that.

Yep, the right wingers are throwing their support behind Hitlery.
She's the chosen one in line for the thrown.
Just vote for her. It will make it easier, and less embarrassing for them to fix the election.
It doesn't matter that Obama is more popular. He will concede at the last minute, and except the vice presidency from queeny Hill.
It's a finely choreographed dance you see.

You're asking snippy a substantive question? lol

Nope, been around here for years. I just think if you have sopmething in paticular that bothers you you should say it. Instead of insinuating some bullshit.

I really think Obama is gaining steam. Even some of the very conservative people that I know are looking at him real hard right now.

He's the only Democrat that I would support.

The real reason some Republicans "like" Obama is because he isn't a Clinton. Many would vote for Satan over Clinton. The election of Hillary Clinton would indicate the final defeat of the forces who made up Hillary's "vast right wing conspiracy" and humiliation for the party that spent 70 million taxpayer dollars on a witch hunt.

Leftandturds,

I really think Obama is gaining steam. Even some of the very conservative people that I know are looking at him real hard right now.

He's definitely gaining steam.

I just think he jumped in too early.

Were he to win the general, I think we'd have an admistration that rivals Carter's in terms of naive incompetence.

For multiple reasons, I hope he loses in the primary.

I abhor his politics, but find him admirable. If he's going to be president, I'd like to see him do so when he's ready. IMO he's way too inexperienced and given his potential, we (and he) deserve a better legacy than a Jimmah Carter clone.

Here more info on why Republicans are defecting including me.

""RepublicansforObama.org is an organization founded by proud party members who all share one important trait-- we are Americans first and Republicans second.""

OMG!!! Too bad they didn't remember that they were Americans first in 2004; the nation would be in far better shape right now and a couple thousand American soldiers might still be alive.

You can't possibly mean to imply that Bush has always been completely frank and honest with the American people, do you?

So, for the next five years the Left's defense of every stupid thing their clowns do will be a Bush deflection.

(Sure, he's only trying to make the greater point that Bush is a politician who speaks with a forked tongue -- just like Bill Clinton.)

But in the future, every time President Barack is criticized, the knee-jerk response will be "well, Bush did the same thing ...."
