I am tuning in only to watch the prelim coverage...I want to see how many repulsicans wear the "I'm A BUSH Republican" button given to them this past week with the request that they wear them at the SOTU speech. How many repulsican enablers in Congress will be willing to label themselves? Should be interesting. Frankly, many Dems should be wearing those buttons, too.

High school kids still cant read or write, let alone do math. Oil prices have doubles in 7 years with no end in sight and no plan in place. Jobs and investment continue to flow overseas or dry up completely. The worst performing industries have the largest political influence, making accountability impossible. Corporate welfare has finally fully replaced and dwarfed the social kind. The value of our currency is in free fall, while inflation rises faster than the fed can artificially control it. Millions face foreclosure due to years of no meaningful oversight into lending practices. We still don't inspect our imports, and our border security is a joke. Ordinary travelers get screwed at the airports, while the guys making $10/hour to load planes get unfettered access through the back doors. Earmark spending is at an all time high. Government offices are stacked with the incompetent and undeserving while the real work is done by contractors for twice the normal cost and with zero accountability. Educational lenders are screwing over kids with our blessing (tax breaks and no oversight). Health care costs are so out of control as to put our quality of care behind most socialist nations. Social Security is still an untouched ticking time bomb. Our national parks have seen more exploitation and underfunding than any point in our history. We have had record deficits for the last several years straight despite raising the debt ceiling as a solution. We've reinstated torture abroad, and pissed all over the 4th Amendment domestically. We STILL haven't caught Bin Laden, and the Pakistan-Afghan border now more than ever provides the perfect safe-haven for extremists.

BUT, my friends, as you all know the crown jewel of my administration has been the war in Iraq. Well, I'm happy to report to you all that we are succeeding in our mission to make militant Iraqi's more hesitant to blow stuff up. Although the Iraqi government still refuses to do the bare minimum politically (the whole purpose for our security), and they want us gone from their streets and only used when they call for it...despite the fact that there are more al qaeda operatives in Iraq now than ever before, and despite the fact that we're now arming the same sunni groups we marginalized before (when has that ever come back to haunt us), and most of all despite the fact that Iraqi oil production is still low and many of our private contractors are ripping us off and having to still spend more than 50% on security...

Despite all of this...we are winning, because our own casualties are slightly down...the ultimate benchmark for success. Mission Accomplished!

I can now leave office with my head held high. Thank you America for voting for me...twice. Well, maybe only once...suckers.

No worries. Just yanking your chain a bit. I actually spent a good 20 minutes thinking of all that. After immediately becoming depressed, it actually got me to thinking...why in the world can't democrats just pull it together for once? They used to say in regards to the primaries: democrats fall in love and Republicans fall in line. The past few elections, democrats have tried to fall in line, and its just not working. I really think Americans who are not blindly partisan (the vast majority) are ready to fall in love. Even if he gets nothing done, if he can just act like a leader for a while, competently and passionately talk on the world stage, and make people feel like Washington is more than just petty partisanship for its own sake...then we might just be able to pull our collective heads out of our asses as a society and get back to innovating and selling ideas like we've done so many times before.

Had worked in customer service for a company that sold high end bath products -- tubs, sinks, etc. -- and after the housing slowdown all related companies are going down too. This person was a real pro-Bushie before. Now they hear that Bush wants to cut back the time for unemployment benefits, etc. etc. and are getting a HARD REALITY CHECK as they see the REAL George W. I believe he mentioned on here once that that industry is hiring now. Goat works as an electrical technician on an oil rig. Maybe he might know of a website you could look at to see if there were any mechincal engineering jobs available in the oil ndustry? It wouldn't hurt to ask. The more you can network and get out info you're looking for work the better. Do you have an up to date resume? If not you should get one set up and be ready to go in case something shows up for you to apply for a job.

Regarding Bush's State of the Union Speech:

Bush ends with support of Gouverneur Morris, which is fitting because both support aristocracy. It is also fitting because the quote also fits within the context of the Civil War. More specifically: the South use to be Democratic and the North Republican, now it is the opposite.

Nevertheless, Bush has revealed himself, by such a quote, to be an Aristocrat. Aristocracy is rule by the "nobility." Such rule is by heredity or by a lifetime. Fitting for Bush because he only became President by a sort of inheritance and perhaps has grandiose visions of dicatorship.

Anyway, the "State of the Union" can be de-constructed as follows on the most salient points:

Health care: He makes into a tax issue and eliminating "law suits" -Good for the "nobility" but not good for ordinary Americans because the "tax issue" addresses COBRA but doesn't resolve it; and "law suits" helps rich, negligent doctors but screws malpractice victims.

Education: The word used by Bush "accountability" is a magical word used to revoke funding from poor schools and give the money instead to rich schools, without funding busing to those same rich schools. So it is rhetorical technique used to undermine Brown v. Bd. of Education without saying so. Bush's "accountability" is a means of withholding funding from impoverished neighborhoods (black or white) without holding society accountable for the inquietudes.

Loans to poor for education by Pell grants: Bush cites the Pell grant program in DC as as model for this argument. The DC program, however, was faith based. So Bush is supporting religious learning loans for education. This should argument should offend Americans because it violates the 1st Amendment regarding religion and because it supports education for the poor only if they pay loan interest and penalties to loan companies.

Duty free: Bush cites Duty free regarding Int'l trade. Tax free profit for int'l companies only supports the super rich.

Cleaner air China & India: These statements don't support the environment, they only support polluting companies in China and India paying third world countries more to do nothing so that China and India can pollute more through carbon credits.

Approving senate confirmations regarding judges: This is a political argument to support Bush's activist judges who will undermine the rule of law by claiming that judges who rule against Bush are "activists."

Entitlement spending and immigration Canada & Mexico summit: This is Bush's attempt to demonize immigrants and undermine Unions. Immigrant workers come here to avoid oppresive regimes. Bush's programs are designed to promote Int'l Companies in foreign contries paying workers less than the United States to simultaneously undermine Unions here and lower the pay in those countries on behalf of Int'l Companies (such as Mexico and elsewhere). The better approach is to support Union rights and anti-corruption laws in Mexico so that people will not feel the need to immigrate here.

Supporting Palestinians vs. Israelis: Bush supports the Palestinians. Perhaps this is because Bush has oil interests with Saudi Arabia. The better approach is to support U.S. uranium energy and high speed rail service to simultaneously reduce: carbon emmisions, reliance on oil, and airline reliance.

When Bush mentioned the need to balance the budget, I almost puked. The man is responsible for the three largest deficit budgets known to man since the dawn of time, and in his last speech, he warns against them?!?

And it's particularly hypocritical of him to bitch about the tax code being set to "raise taxes" when it was his party who proposed, wrote, and passed the law, all without a single Democratic vote. Oh, and someone should remind him who signed it into law.

But will the MSM actually point out these uncomfortable truths? Of course not.

Bush lied again, claiming he'd set out plans to fix the problems in Social Security. That's dead wrong: after a year of a dog-and-pony show in front of loyalty oathers, he finally admitted his "plan" wouldn't even address the problems.
