Fox News has surpassed CNN in the minds of Americans as the most trusted TV news organization, but the public's overall perception about the believability of media news reports, including those by Fox, has plummeted. Currently, 19.6 percent of those surveyed said they believe all or most news media reporting, down from 27.4 percent in 2003

I think this why Bubba and Romney and others aren't so worried about going after reporters with attitudes.

The reporters are about as popular as the pols.

What does that have to do with trusting the media?

I'm betting most of FOX's 27% still believe there are WMD in Iraq and that Saddam bought the airline tickets for the 9-11 terrorists.

Most people are rightfully cynical of the media-Bushies are just gullible.

Poll: Public's Trust in Media Drops

But why? They are doing such a bang up job covering Britney Spears and her sister, Natalie Holoway and OJ and all those important topics that are so relevant to the future of our country!

They actually had to do a study to find this out?
Who wants to place bets on if the media will cover this story?

"I'm betting most of FOX's 27% still believe there are WMD in Iraq and that Saddam bought the airline tickets for the 9-11 terrorists."

Why change now?

"The Program on International Policy Attitudes at the University of Maryland conducted a thorough study of public knowledge and attitudes about current events and the war on terrorism. Researchers found that the public's mistaken impressions of three facets of U.S. foreign policy -- discovery of alleged WMD in Iraq, alleged Iraqi involvement in 9/11, and international support for a U.S. invasion of Iraq -- helped fuel support for the war. While the PIPA study concluded that most Americans (over 60%) held at least one of these mistaken impressions, the researchers also concluded that Americans' opinions were shaped in large part by which news outlet they relied upon to receive their information. As the researchers explained in their report, "The extent of Americans' misperceptions vary significantly depending on their source of news. Those who receive most of their news from Fox News are more likely than average to have misperceptions. Those who receive most of their news from NPR or PBS are less likely to have misperceptions. These variations cannot simply be explained as a result of differences in the demographic characteristics of each audience, because these variations can also be found when comparing the demographic subgroups of each audience." Almost shocking was the extent to which Fox News viewers were mistaken. Those who relied on the conservative network for news, PIPA reported, were "three times more likely than the next nearest network to hold all three misperceptions. In the audience for NPR/PBS, however, there was an overwhelming majority who did not have any of the three misperceptions, and hardly any had all three." Looking at the misperceptions one at a time, people were asked, for example, if the U.S. had discovered the alleged stockpiles of WMD in Iraq since the war began. Just 11% of those who relied on newspapers as their "primary news source" incorrectly believed that U.S. forces had made such a discovery. Only slightly more -- 17% -- of those who relied on NPR and PBS were wrong. Yet 33% of Fox News viewers were wrong, far ahead of those who relied on any other outlet."

Fox's new slogan:

Almost Twice As Dumb As Our Competitors!

Paul Begala - I've been dealing with the media and politics for 25 years, but I've never had a more surrealistic day than January 8. Several times that day Fox News reported that I was joining Sen. Hillary Clinton's campaign. It was a big story - at least until the stunning election returns.

The only problem was, it wasn't true.

After I told Fox it wasn't true -- and this is the surreal part -- they kept reporting it anyway

On Tuesday, Fox News morning show "Fox & Friends" aired at least eight segments on a purported "news" story that was actually a parody article written by a publication similar to The Onion.

Last week, Fox News and other Rupert Murdoch outlets amplified a right-wing report alleging that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) attended an Islamic "madrassa" school as a 6-year-old child. One Fox News caller questioned whether Obama's schooling means that "maybe he doesn't consider terrorists the enemy." Fox anchor Brian Kilmeade responded, "Well, we'll see about that."

Commenting on this report today, Wolf Blitzer said that CNN had done "what any serious news organization is supposed to do in this kind of a situation": actually investigate and learn the facts.

******************************
********************

Over the last two weeks, FOX News Channel has repeatedly -- and falsely -- reported that an elementary school in Cupertino, California, banned the Declaration of Independence because it mentioned God.

This report holds in line with the study published a few months back by Harvard University that Fox News is the only organization out there who gives "fair and balanced" coverage to both parties. It's really no surprise to anyone that this would eventually happen.

We have NO media anymore -- only corporate shills

For the demented Redneckville.....EVERYTHING. Now with the DudSpud(tm) on vacation holds the title of worst posting style on the DR.

I trust the media of REVDARKO and BRIWO.

"I trust the media of REVDARKO and BRIWO."

Another person recognizes the quality and integrity of the
Free World Radio Network, home of The Truth on line.

Hans

If this poll is indeed correct this Country is in more trouble than even I had guessed. Fox News is an arm of the Republican Party. From the earliest of show(Fox and Friends) through the day it's one Conserative after another until you get to colmes, what a joke he is, so please pawn this crap on one of the one tooth wonders that what that idiot Network......

I trust the media of REVDARKO and BRIWO.

As well you should, Ride, for we are BRILLIANT!

And CRUNCHY!

NOPE, I simply recognized the show that REVDARKO and BRIWO do on the Internet. Heck, I would add TREE's show to that as well. That is all.

"NOPE, I simply recognized the show that REVDARKO and BRIWO do on the Internet. Heck, I would add TREE's show to that as well. That is all."

Does "All for one, and one for all" sound familiar?

Recognize one (or two or three) of
our programs?

You recognize our network.

Thanks for the recognition.

Hans

Actually Bush and C0. are the major reason for the loss of trust in the major media. The media, as a whole, have so 'lost it' in going after the Bush administration that their way liberal bias became no longer hidden and the public has finally seen them for what they are - way left leaning instead of impartial.

Not right or wrong, just a fact - and I for one am glad that many have finally become aware.

I spoke in plain English, if you can't read plain English it's not my problem. I like one show on CBS this year. That doesn't mean I like all the shows on CBS....capice! Stop making a fool of yourself. It's not my fault you don't get the recognition you think you deserve and that you are crying for. Does "your pathetic" sound familiar.....of course that sounds familiar to you.

This isn't an argument by the way....it's just YOU making yourself look stupid. Here's the FACTS, I like REVDARKO and BRIWO (even TREE's) show. Get over yourself. I didn't put your show down. It wasn't mentioned and you get all high and might about "All for one, and one for all".....way too funny.

"Here's the FACTS, I like REVDARKO and BRIWO (even TREE's) show."

our programs?

You recognize our network.

As I said, thanks for the recognition.

Hans

Thanks REV, Briwo and Trees for GOOD shows. Those shows are a pleasure and very informative to listen to. The hosts are wonderful. Keep up the good work Rev, Briwo and Trees.

Another person recognizes the quality and integrity of the

Once again, thanks for the recognition of our network.

We're proud of what we've accomplished.

Hans

"Thanks REV, Briwo and Trees for GOOD shows."

Our
network's production of The Free World Pub is a weekly roundtable discussion featuring our hosts, including the Rev. and Briwo.

Saturdays at 11:00am Eastern Time.

Once again, thanks for the recognition.

Hans

Don't break your arm while you pat yourself on the back.......

Sometimes a network makes it despite the bad shows it may air.

"Don't break your arm while you pat yourself on the back......."

Don't seem to remember mentioning my particular broadcast on the
Free World Radio Network.

When was that?

Hans

"Sometimes a network makes it despite the bad shows it may air."

I'll put it to my colleagues:

ride_on claims my show is "bad."

Perhaps it is time for me to leave our network.

Rev Darko and Briwo... should I pack it in and remove myself from the
Free World Radio Network?

ride_on seems to think I should.

Hans

"we" "we"...."all for one, one for all" etc...posted by you. Like I said get over yourself. I like REV's show and Brian's (Tree's was even ok). Here's my opinion. The other shows on the FWR Network SUCK. The show by Charlie and by you in particular are the worst. Why did you feel the need to comment on my post about REV and BRIWO. GET over yourself dude.

What a drama queen. Should I leave? Should I pack it in and remove myself? What a friggin' drama queen baby you are!

Anyway thanks for taking the compliment to REV and BRIWO and turning it into your boohoohoo party there drama queen.

"Don't seem to remember mentioning my particular broadcast on the Free World Radio Network.

When was that?

Hans"

You didn't. It's just that Ride_On cannot pass up an opportunity to be a dick. Because he is, in fact, a dick.

ty, ty very much................

Anytime, Ride, anytime.

......soytonlee!

"You didn't. It's just that Ride_On cannot pass up an opportunity to be a dick. Because he is, in fact, a dick."

Thanks, Monte.

Hans

....good I hope you can feel better now Hans. I'll perhaps email a bunch of people and have them come here to also help make you feel better.

It's just that Ride_On cannot pass up an opportunity to be a dick. Because he is, in fact, a dick.

Very true, Monte.

Duh, this is the US. We are hearing about everything Britney Spears ate or did wrong. Meanwhile out stock market is falling along with our dollar.

The only news they talk about is the writers strike or Britney or O.J. WTF? America do you care?

The media really is pointed and opinionated. The White House could be on code red with a lock down and the media would be talking about Tom Cruise.

I just love it when there is a bank robbery and they ask if anyone has seen anything suspicious and described the perpetrator as a male in the late 20s? Huh? No reference to race, skin color, clothing, hair color, accent Huh?

Gotta love the US! Then the Head-On commercial repeats 25 times.

You're an idiot, ride_on.

My opinion of the MSM was already low. But after seeing what they did to Ron Paul during the current campaign season, I'm fuming mad. I seriously hate them for what they do.

Wow, Bill.

You're the poster boy for the resultant rewards of lowered expectations.

You pulled some grey box, finally.

Not blonde, but grey.

And not pussy, but pixels.

But congratulations nonetheless.

Baby steps, right?

Seriously, though...

How'd you make the grey box?

And don't reply with, "Depends".

That's not instructive.

Pinche my friend, you're an idiot, but I'll tell you anyway. View the source code (click view in your browser). Then search for the text of the grey box in question.

And then of course, just cut and paste the HTML.

John has a long moustache

Tight.

Thanks, Guillermo.

Now I can't ever say I didn't learn anything from the Trotskyites who frequent this site.

Excuse me, we are Trotskyists not Trotskyites.

Fox News, 27 percent; CNN, 14.6 percent; and NBC News, 10.9 percent. They were followed by ABC News, 7 percent; local news, 6.9 percent; CBS News, 6.8 percent; MSNBC, 4 percent; PBS News, 3 percent; CNBC, 0.6 percent; and CBN, 0.5 percent.

The 27% (Bush supporters) is actually the minority because the "normal" population is spread accross many different networks though virtually all would agree that Fox is the least truthful.

"FOX NEWS has surpassed CNN as the most trusted news source"

What Right Wing Mother Fucker wrote this article?

Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Newt Gingrich, Ollie North, John Gibon, Neil Cavuto...

Notice how none of these assholes ever even mention their poster boy President GW Bush's name anymore?

The Most trusted news source !!! Go pound salt up your ass!!!

Dunno, but what I do know is that O'liely promised he would never support this admin. if no wmds were found.... Remember that??? righty tighties....

On the other hand, news is entertainment anymore.
No matter who you watch you have to be careful and keep an open mind..

Fox is just the answer to the redneck adgenda...

At least this poll seems accurate in one sense: for the most part we do not trust the main stream media anymore.

33% of Fox news junkies still today believe that there were WMD found in Iraq. That should tell you about there fair and balanced news, How does this poll explain where these folks got that idea??? FAUX NOISE is an arm of the Republican Party, it is so clear one needs to be a fucking idiot not to think so!!!!!!

One explaination is this:
I'm watching Fox news one night (not because I get my news there) "comming up, WMDs found in Iraq, right after this break". When the guy gets back on the air he begins to talk about a missle that had a range several miles longer than permissible in the agreement that Iraq was to be abiding by. Everyone heard WMD! It was really pitiful...

"So all normal people watch all sorts of outlets except FOX, which is watched solely by Dubya suppporters? Huh?"

Well....yes, that is pretty much it.
I can honestly say I don't know one single person who isn;t a right wing nut case who watches Fox News....ever. Most normal people avoid that channel, make fun of that channel, use the term Fox News as a synonym for The Bush Propaganda Channel.
I am not just saying that to make a point, that is the literal truth.
I have to say, anyone who watches Sean Hannity or Bill O.....IS NOT A NORMAL PERSON unless they do so for the laughs. You have to disconnect from reality to believe the crap that comes out of those liars mouths.

"Actually Bush and C0. are the major reason for the loss of trust in the major media ... their way liberal bias became no longer hidden and the public has finally seen them for what they are - way left leaning instead of impartial."

MSGT, does your captain know you are blogging in clear violation of Pentagon regs? Anyone seeing the press as liberal/leftleaning needs his ears cleaned. Today's mainstream press no longer is the steno for the corporate problem, as Norman Solomon pointed out. It *IS* the problem. herm

Thanks Bill, just a media test.

HERM: I retired in the fall of '89 at age 40 [my war was RVN 70/71] (58 y/o now) and my last OIC was a Colonel. Appreciate you being worried about me getting into trouble. Do continue to work and pay your taxes as I enjoy that monthly credit into my brokerage account - LOL.

I'm a bit late coming into this, but I feel the need to comment (although, admittedly, belatedly)

Ride, I'm going to ask you to stand down on your commentary to Hans regarding FWRN.

First, we (meaning everyone within FWRN) are a team and we work together in all aspects of the network.

And Second, Hans came to the network before it was even a network. He was my first guest host and he has put a lot of work into the network, his show, promotions, advertising, web-site design and maintenance, etc. Frankly, I think he puts in about twice as much work as the rest of us, so understand that most of what we are, do and have accomplished is thanks in large part to Hans.

Thank you, Rev. Darko.

Hans

Thanks REV. I hope that makes Hans feel better. Maybe next time when I pay a compliment to two shows and fail (inadvertantly) to mention the entire network, he'll feel the need to have to jump in.....but, I understand. Funny Rev if you read the entire thread you'll notice he wasn't even on the thread, yet had to join when it didn't even involve him. Lucky for all of us that he isn't part of something like CBS....if I'd have complimented two shows, I'd have gotten his lecture about "all for one, and one for all". In other words, don't be complimenting a show on the "network" without bowing down to the whole network. Salright.

soooooooo, what was their first clue?

"...if I'd have complimented two shows, I'd have gotten his lecture about "all for one, and one for all".

Rev. Darko spoke in plain English:

First, we (meaning everyone within FWRN) are a team and we work together in all aspects of the network.
If you can't read plain English it's not my problem.

Hans

"Ride, I'm going to ask you to stand down on your commentary to Hans regarding FWRN."

Apparently,
TLF(tm) isn't interested in what you say, or what you ask for, Rev. Darko.

Hans
