Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The United States Constitution never uses the word "God" or makes mention of any religion, drawing its sole authority from "We the People." However, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee thinks it's time to put an end to that.

"I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution," Huckabee told a Michigan audience on Monday. "But I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living god. And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines up with some contemporary view."

If I wasn't scared of this guy before, I sure am now.

Can you say T H E O C R A C Y ?

The sad thing is that a lot of people agree with him and will vote for him purely on this position. Can you say "The Christian States of America?"

Hey Huck, your imaginary friend doesn't exist.

"A few Christian fundamentalists attempt to convince us to return to the Christianity of early America, yet according to the historian, Robert T. Handy, "No more than 10 percent-- probably less-- of Americans in 1800 were members of congregations."

The Founding Fathers, also, rarely practiced Christian orthodoxy. Although they supported the free exercise of any religion, they understood the dangers of religion. Most of them believed in deism and attended Freemasonry lodges. According to John J. Robinson, "Freemasonry had been a powerful force for religious freedom." Freemasons took seriously the principle that men should worship according to their own conscience. Masonry welcomed anyone from any religion or non-religion, as long as they believed in a Supreme Being. Washington, Franklin, Hancock, Hamilton, Lafayette, and many others accepted Freemasonry. "

Treaty of Tripoli, Huckster.

Superstitious moron.

Thomas Paine

This freethinker and author of several books, influenced more early Americans than any other writer. Although he held Deist beliefs, he wrote in his famous The Age of Reason:

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my church. "

"Of all the systems of religion that ever were invented, there is no more derogatory to the Almighty, more unedifiying to man, more repugnant to reason, and more contradictory to itself than this thing called Christianity. "

And that's what we need to do -- to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards

What a fucking loon.

Bye bye Huckleberry.

Here's an interesting exchange from mikehuckabeeforum.com

A Ron Paul supporter posted:

"on paul ftw.

Ron paul bases his stances and beliefs on his intelligence and integrity.

Prayer won't beat that.

Wake up and stop trying to drag our country down into hate and bigotry!"

Then a Huckabee supporter said a little prayer against him:

"Bugger off Troll!

The problem with Ron Paul is that he puts the constitution ahead of morals.

So go away, but before you do, I will say an online pray for you.

Dear Lord,
Let this Ron Paul supporter see the light.
Let him know that christian morals are more important than a piece of paper.
And if he fails to see the error of his ways, I ask you my lord, to smite him, along with his children, onto the gates of hell. May he burn in damnation and his children suffer until they submit to you my Lord.
Amen."

Now... isn't thaaat speciallll.

I don't see the comparison. These were posts in an online forum.

*** Constitution must conform to God - Huck ***

.....I wonder if he's hearing voices yet......

I would think that our observations relative to Theocracies would clearly eliminate the attraction to that form of Gvt.

This one is pretty successful:

Modern theocracy?

Iran comes to mind.

Of course a theocracy, by definition, isn't modern.

"James Madison

Called the father of the Constitution, Madison had no conventional sense of Christianity. In 1785, Madison wrote in his Memorial and Remonstrance against Religious Assessments:

"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What have been its fruits? More or less in all places, pride and indolence in the Clergy, ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry and persecution."

"What influence, in fact, have ecclesiastical establishments had on society? In some instances they have been seen to erect a spiritual tyranny on the ruins of the civil authority; on many instances they have been seen upholding the thrones of political tyranny; in no instance have they been the guardians of the liberties of the people. Rulers who wish to subvert the public liberty may have found an established clergy convenient auxiliaries. A just government, instituted to secure and perpetuate it, needs them not." "

Zat - the Reverend Mr. Huckabee is on line 2 for you. Something about wanting to show you some choice real estate in Cuba, I think.

"The United States of America have exhibited, perhaps, the first example of governments erected on the simple principles of nature; and if men are now sufficiently enlightened to disabuse themselves of artifice, imposture, hypocrisy, and superstition, they will consider this event as an era in their history. Although the detail of the formation of the American governments is at present little known or regarded either in Europe or in America, it may hereafter become an object of curiosity. It will never be pretended that any persons employed in that service had interviews with the gods, or were in any degree under the influence of Heaven, more than those at work upon ships or houses, or laboring in merchandise or agriculture; it will forever be acknowledged that these governments were contrived merely by the use of reason and the senses.

". . . Thirteen governments [of the original states] thus founded on the natural authority of the people alone, without a pretence of miracle or mystery, and which are destined to spread over the northern part of that whole quarter of the globe, are a great point gained in favor of the rights of mankind."

Also from Huck's forum:

"VOTE FOR MIKE HUCKABEE OR BURN FOREVER IN THE FIRES OF HELL"

Here's another gem:

Re: New Hampshire

"Well brothers and sisters, the good lord has decided to challenge our faith by giving victory to that whining devil troll John McCain (Whah, I was stuck in a cage for 5 1/2 years in Vietnem. Whah, I was tortured. Boo Hoo Cry ). This is nothing but a test and we shall over come this bump in the road of our soilder's march to victory.

God bless you all and God bless Mike Huckabee!"

Even as a devout Christian, I know the concept of a Theocracy is just a bad idea. Faith has to come from free will. You should worship because you want to, not because you have to (a point completely missed by most Islamic countries). Also, expecting imperfect people in a huge bureaucracy to correctly carry out God's wishes is foolish.

Government should exist to protect its people. Although most laws (e.g. murder is illegal) are compatible with Biblical principals, they should be there for society's benefit. As long as the Government doesn't try to restrict my freedom to worship as I see fit (within the bounds of not harming others, of course), I'm happy.

The examples from Huckabees' forum are obviously people who call themselves Christian, but have never put any effort into reading the Bible for themselves to find out what God really wants--they just spot off talking points like so many others do.

I wonder exactly which parts of the Constitution he has trouble with?

Dear Republicans,

Please, I say again, Please give Huck N' Chuck your party's nomination. Me and jeebus can then get on with the corrections that our nation so desperately needs from 8 years of religionism.

I don't see the comparison. These were posts in an online forum.

Comparison: both events seemed stilted and staged.

Remember, our current President started a couple of wars because......GOD TOLD HIM TO.

'God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan'.'

"And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq...' And I did.

"'And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East.' And by God I'm gonna do it'," said Shaath.

Huckabee ain't got nothing on that shit......

He hasn't had the chance.

Say goodnight, Chuckleberry Clown.

"Comparison: both events seemed stilted and staged.

Perhaps the Hillary one was staged - I don't know. Certainly it was a public event and she stood to gain from such an encounter.

Such an exchange as cited here was on a blog with little or no chance of any public exposure that could benefit one or the other candidate. No reason to stage something like that.

That's why I don't see any direct comparison.

Huckabee 08!

p.s. Just keep your mouth shut about your whacky views until *after* you get the nomination, will you?

Yeah I guess you're right.

The question is: who speaks for God? Huckabee? Pat Robertson? Pope Benny? This clown won't make it through the primaries.

Let me make a wild guess.

Would Huck be the "One" to decide just what God wants done?

If not, just exactly who?

Posted by Frosty at 2008-01-15 04:52 PM

I wonder exactly which parts of the Constitution he has trouble with?

I can speculate concerning some.

Women should not have been given the right to vote. America began going to Hell in a handbasket after that mistake. The role of the woman is kuche, kirke, und kinder. She should have no voice in civic affairs, should subordinate herself to men, and her husband in particular. Score one for the Governor.

Another change could be to establish the sanctity of marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Disallow the nonsensical attempt tof emulate such a condtion between two individuals not equipped by nature to form a union which is based on biological reality. Score another for the Governor.

We should have Sunday closing laws, so that there would be no commercial enterprise or ball games or other frivolity on the Lord's Day, and people would be encouraged to worship God as a Sunday activity. We could return to Prohibition.

The elimination of honoring Christianity in governmental forums would not be prohibited. Federal and state funds could be used, as in Europe, to support churches and Christian education.

There are many improvements possible.

Oh yes, rather than indulge this evolutionary Darwinistic nonsense, Creation Science should be taught in the schools, and Rev. Huckabees' well-founded belief in the findings of Bishop Ussher, the "Young Earth" theoritician, should be made part of the mandatory curriculum.

Quite naturally, those who do not abide by Christian principles and value vague scientific hypotheses above the knowledge that God gave Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, are acting for the Devil. Satanists should be purged from public life, and if they are not rescued by reeducation and exorcism, they should be dispatched by burning at stake, stake in the heart, drowning, or some other effective method as was employed in Colonial America.

Give me that old time religion. Give me that old time religion. Give me that old time religion. It's good enough for me.

It was good enough for my mammy. It was good enough for my pappy. It's good enough for my children, and it's good enough for me.

There'll be gainsayers, and naysayers, and sinners, who oppose God. but once we have a good theocratic government, things will improve. You secularists won't be subject to doubts. You can know through belief. And rest easy, you will have a ticket to salvation. Too many unfortunate people have gone to Hell because they have deviated from the righteous path due to the presence of secularists in our midst doing the Devil's work, and thus misleading people.

There was another organization a while back I recall seeing a webpage for (I think the site tag was tencommandments.org, forgive my not actually linking to it, the company firewall has been rather prickly lately), that I find myself recalling after reading this article. This group essentially wishes to replace the Constitution with the Ten Commandments. And the laws of... Deuteronomy or Numbers, sadly I don't remember which. Either way, particularly scary stuff.

And (hoping he'd intended Sarcasm on a massive scale), Johnson gets the FF this morning for causing a cola-induced noseburn.

Actually, this pretty much reinforces my thoughts after the SC primary:

If Obama gets the nod from the Democrats, and subsequently the Presidency, we're in some trouble.

If, on the other hand, if Huckabee gets the Republican nod, and subsequently the Presidency... folks, we be sca-rooed.

Holy shit! Is Johnson serious? Or is he writing parody? The man came out of a deep 500 year sleep.

Well it seems that Huckleberry has had his Pat Robertson jump the shark tank moment.

Bye bye Huckleberry.

If God wanted his name in the Constitution, he could easily put it there. If God does exist, he apparently decided to stay out of politics 2000 years ago because that seems to be the last time we've heard from him.

And now for The Reverend Mr. Huckabee's next miracle...

"Post subject: The Huckster Cured my friend's Homosexuality...

Hey guys...i'm new to the forum & just recently got into Huckabee because of a friend. My friend Stephen had been gay for about 5 years secretly (although i knew as his best friend). After meeting Mike Huckabee at a rally and discussing his "secret", Mike quoted a few scriptures to Stephen & helped open his eyes to the sinful life he was living. Stephen has since changed his lifestyle & become one with god & accepted Christ as his lord and savior. I'm so happy that Mike took it upon himself to help lead my friend in the right direction!

So, thank you Mike Huckabee..."

726 - not to be a pop culture reference nazi, but I think the correct term is "jump the shark" without the "tank."

Unless the shark wasn't home and he just jumped an empty tank?

DAMMIT, SAN - Brilliant, sir.

Fortunately, as evolution progresses, the Johnsons of this world will recede into a tiny corner somewhere with the Rev Phelps and other comedians.

Meanwhile, nominating Huckabee would be even better than nominating Romney. Or Giuliani.

If this cretin is by some stroke of ????.

I am going to curl up in the fetal position, swallow my tongue and take a 4/8 year time out.

If I don't, I might do something I will never feel sorry for.

Some stroke of???? elected.

I'm down with that.
God.
aka Allah.

PS Please please please let Mike get the nomination.
