Interviewed in Jerusalem, President Bush says the US could "easily" be in Iraq for another decade. There "could very well be" a long-term U.S. presence in Iraq at the invitation of the government in Baghdad, he said. When asked if it could be 10 years, Bush replied: "It could easily be that, absolutely."

"Easily"?

Sounds like hard werk to me.

It strikes me that this "news" story is another case of Bush not answering a question because he hasn't a clue of what that answer might be. It strikes me further that "how long" depends entirely on whom we elect president. I'll vote for anyone who says Out Now. herm

Funny, Bush's puppetmaster, Cheney, predicted exactly this in 1994 if we invaded Iraq.

We will be in Iraq until we get the last drop of their oil.

It's the oil stupid!

Could we be in Korea in 10 years? I guess so, we've already been there 55 years, thanks to the great Democrat Truman.

This must be in some unknown breed's 'Dog Years'

I remember they said, "2, 3 .... I can't imagine we'll be there more than 6 months tops"

"I can't imagine" sums it up nicely.

I guess so, we've already been there 55 years, thanks to the great Democrat Truman

Germany and Japan hold the record. You never know when they might become our enemies again.

I take that back. The Philippines goes back to the Spanish-American Way. You never know when the natives might attack us from their canoes.

what was your first clue, Watson?

If we leave it to them, we will be. It's up to us.

Bush wanted the Iraq war from Presidency Day One. Can both repubs and dems agree on that?

If he wanted this and knew that the only way for U.S. long term safety was to have a babysitting post in the desert,

THEN WHY THE FUCK DID HE NOT COMMIT MORE TROOPS IN THE BEGINNING.

We should have shown up with a lot more soldiers and took a more commanding occupation from the onset. Someone dropped the fucking ball big time. No One will ever have to answer for this historic BLUNDER, will they Rummie?

Let me guess, they all had visions of everyone laying down their weapons from when Daddy was there in 90.

Wouldn't it be nice if they could just tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth-

Strategy. How they thought it would unfold. Long Term Plan.

"Long Term Plan."

Nonexistent.

I guess so, we've already been there 55 years, thanks to the great Democrat Truman.
And Ike, and JFK and LBJ and RMN and Jerry and Jimmie and Ronnie and George1 and Bubba and George2.

Your point?
Other than we don't read about KIAs from South Korea?

I expect we'll have troops in Iraq to try and counter balance the Iranian genie we let out of the bottle.
But will we still keep the 60,000 other troops in the region to protect the saudi and kuwaiti and UAE royals from the evils of democracy?

Nonexistent.

I disagree. The BushCo cabal has made plans to profit from Iraq for the foreseeable future. Easily another 10 years past the Bush presidency.

Oh, THAT long term plan!

Imposing our will on the rest of the world is, frankly, a sacred obligation imposed as a burden, challenge, and responsibility by God Almighty when He created the United States of America. We cannot ignore that trust any more than we can ignore the fact that this is a great Christian nation or that drinking eight glasses of water a day will prolong human life. It is sad, but sometimes lives must be sacrificed in the labors we perform in order to carry out His will. But thank God there's no draft. Otherwise all might have to expose themselves to mortal danger and make the sacrifices that we require of the few.

This attitude is why we are in the mess we are in and unfortuanatly I don't think there is any shortage of people of feel they have a right to interfere worldwide. In the long run, we are fucked.

Germany and Japan hold the record. You never know when they might become our enemies again.

The Empire of America

So, when the liar-in-chief claimed to "get it" after the landslide in the Nov 2006 elections where the Neo-repubs were swept out
- what message exactly did he get?

He obviously understood that Americans hate his war and want out, now!

But the bratty drunk fake cowboy who wanna-be-king responds with his constant dictator response over the last year since:

Dubya will do whatever dubya wants to do - period.
F! all americans and the will of the people!!

Here's the sick attitude of the Neo-Cons that has destroyed American in the 2000s:

the will of the people only matters during election time

beyond that, polling the people or responding to their will or new information which changes everything does not matter.
y'all voted for bush so that means he becomes king and will do all y'all's thinkin' and decidin' for y'all

the decider-in-chief self proclamation apparently means that your opinions and desires from the majority are now officially bush-it,
like barnacles clinging to his bottom??

10? Pffft... Make it a 100... Hell, make it 1000! As long as American troops aren't dying, we should occupy every country in the world for a million years...it's very American.

Stay the course..?

besides being $trillions more in debt with 100s of thousands murdered for zero gain?
Oil prices have quadrupled despite the teams of liars claiming it would go lower

the army is dangerously drained with guards intended to "guard the nation" *usually that means locally - are used in a war for profits?

Incredible corrections out of Iraq - estimate of dead reduced

Isn't that terrific?
only 151,000 innocent women and kids with zero connection to terrorism or 911 have been murdered because of a "war of choice"..?

despite dubya and jewlieAnnie having to say "911" 145 times in any and every conversation about Iraq
fact remains facts: 0 of the 151,000 dead kids have any connection to 911.
In fact, the leaders and planners of 911 are still living the high life, running operations, protected and enjoyed pardons from dubya

sadly, if just 1 of those 151,000 dead were a clincally proven brain-dead white women in florida with a written will and documented desire to die, folks claiming to be "compassionate christians" might actually get extremely upset and called to action about this too.

instead, they continue to goosestep along and clap like trained monkeys

sick

Funny, I seem to recall that before the war, the administration said it would take six months. Now we have to be there for 15+ years total, according to George, but for some reason he wasn't wrong the first time.

This is why nobody trusts Republicans. They were lying before the war, but they knew if they could get the war started, we wouldn't be able to pull out. They could brand anyone who complained as a coward and a traitor, all the while lying to the American people and robbing the treasury.

We will be in Iraq until we get the last drop of their oil.

It's the oil stupid!

yeah thats right.......I mean here in texas we are using all that oil from iraq....thats why its 2.89 a gallon instead of over 3 bucks......yeah sure it is...

you simply have NO proof to make this statement....

"But thank God there's no draft. Otherwise all might have to expose themselves to mortal danger and make the sacrifices that we require of the few.

A volunteer army does put all the deaths and grief on a small percentage of our population.

As posted here many times a return to a draft would put a lot of pressure on the mealy mouthed little warmonger politicians.

As an avowed Buch/Cheney opponent I'm very, very happy that they can't get their slimy little claws on our grandsons. CS's.

The linkage between oil and Iraq might not be as obvious as some people would claim, but let's be real-

Nobody really gives a shit about the Middle East. This country, and it's politicians in particular, could turn away from the ME and forget about it entirely in 6 months. Israel could go back to being a special interest sideshow.

Except for the oil. We need it, and they have it. Period.

It's the only reason we do anything in the ME. We might not have had tankers lined up to take Iraq's oil, but if Iraq, Iran, and SA didn't have oil, there's not a politician in this country who'd waste a breath on them.

This war wasn't about STEALING their oil NOW, it was about CONTROLLING their oil 20 years from now.

yes, the administration said it would take 6 months.

the teams of liars also claimed that Iraq oil will pay for most of the war - $6 billion tops will be our cost shared among the "coalition"

well, Dumbya still keeps demanding 10s of billions and with 0 accountability or results!
WTF

Regarding "the War was about controlling Iraq oil for 20 years from now..?

ask yourself a basic non-brain teaser

wouldn't a few $TRILLION dollars BUY you 20 years worth of oil anyway or a NEW SOLUTION like HydroCells?
- and with NO Blood spilled

be logical already!

Gunner, I wasn't advocating the strategy. I was just stating my perception of it.

At the price of Oil before dumbya verbally assaulted every Oil nation without proof to inflame prices:

$27 barrel before Dumbass
$100 barrel after Dumbass

$27 x 100,000,000,000 BILLION barrels = $2.7 Trillion!

Only twice the cost of the "Iraq invasion" so far

we could have owned and stored 100 BILLION Barrels of Oil!

argh, no harm intended friend, it's all good

...I mean here in texas we are using all that oil from iraq....

Saying that this war is "about the oil" is an extremely general reference. Believing that anyone means it is about cheap oil for the United States is an extremely uninformed position.

Iraq casualties with 100s of thousands of civilians now revealed to be dead - should be no surprise.

We knew that "governor death" gets excited with murderin' and even laughed and ridiculed that woman before executing her in texas

Bush needs to learn now to
think outside the Gun

Will Bush be the worst president of the 21st century? Easily.(Let's hope)

I seem to recall from eleventh grade civics that it takes congress to declare war. I cannot for the life of me recall that ever having been put to a vote. Of course we gave the bush leagues a half-assed blank check to respond - somehow - if provoked.

So it looks like we're there until a congress asks "why's this happening = let's get out." That could well take ten more years, or a hundred.

The late Art Hoppe began many a column with "it was the 72nd year of our lightning campaign to wipe out the dreaded Viet-narians." Today he could just substitute Al Qaeda. Al who? Didn't he play third base for the Yankees? herm,

Will Bush be the worst president of the 21st century? Easily.(Let's hope)

During my decades of watching politics, I used to think that no president could be worse than the last one - until the next one came along.

Given the crumbling state of the economy and the tensions in the Middle East, Bush's successor has every chance of being the next worst president.

"During my decades of watching politics"

Which is why you are irrelevant.

What is the value of vast arrays of original ECM vinyl and a $1M way to hear it correctly?

The politics of ecstacy.

Damn pool had an algae bloom ... 62 degrees.

Which is why you are irrelevant.

Over the decades, I've seen my share of science frauds too.

Too bad.

Cold fusion is history. I'm busy creating a formula to turn lead into gold.

How aboutlonger then any of us will be alive...does that work for you?

I hope so, because that is what is going to happen.

Get used to it.

The USA is all over most the world right now. If not we are coming to a country near you soon.

you simply have NO proof to make this statement....

He/she may not have the "proof" that you need to beleive this bullshit case for war but it doesn't mean that the assertation is wrong.

Lemmmy see here....
Beyond REASONABLE doubt is what is neeeded to send a man to death by lethal injection in the courts..
What will it take for you to beleive anything other than what Bush Co. tells you about their war?
Of course, I am not accusing you of being reasonable or anything like that.... i simply have no proof.
I'm just sayin'.......

'I am not accusing you of being reasonable or anything like that..."
