Doubts intensified last night over the nature of an alleged aggressive confrontation by Iranian patrol boats and American warships in the Persian Gulf on Sunday, after Pentagon officials admitted that they could not confirm that a threat to blow up the US ships had been made directly by the Iranian crews involved in the incident.

From the article:

"But the mystery remains of where the voice that apparently threatened to bomb the US ships came from. The Pentagon has said that it recorded the film and the sound separately, and then stitched them together - a dubious piece of editing even before it became known that the source of the voice could not, with certainty, be linked to the Iranian patrol boats."

I can't wait until this lying admin and the little turd on top are flushed away forever. Do any of you righties think that the US has ANY credibilty left in the world? Bush has cost this country a portion of its greatness, and THAT should be a crime.

The Pentagon has said that it recorded the film and the sound separately, and then stitched them together

They forgot to add the fart noises.

That would have made it funnier.

Bush is a better than Clinton ever was.

President

Is U.S. cedibility really that important to you? Most countries have always hated us, get used to it.

"Most countries have always hated us..."
really, FFD? And on what basis do you make this claim?
Or do you always just pull bullshit our of your ass for deflection purposes?

I just throw bullshit to see what kind of reaction I can get. Thanks, It's off to the links now. Ya'll have a wonderful day. God Bless America

If indeed the voice was "edited," do you think it would make any difference to the Republican tough guys' rhetoric?

www.timesonline.co.uk

I'm not saying we can trust Iran any further than we could throw their little blue boats, but, um... ya gotta wonder if such tough talk does anybody any good.

"Them's some really big ears."

Yes, the base of the antenna was over a mile in diameter -- talk about "large arrays" ... and this was '64.

They forgot to add the fart noises.

That would have made it funnier

They could always get that guy from the Police Academy movies.

The Pentagon is the BIGGEST bunch of LIARS on the Planet!

I wouldn't belive ONE DAMN THING they tell you at the Pentagon Briefing.

Yesterday I watched Gates on a TV interview... he related 4 or 5 sentences backing up the Pentagon version, simple stuff a 2nd grader could have memorized... and his eyes never left his lap.

As though he couldn't look anybody in the eye ?

Note to FFD, what you just admitted to is pretty much our definition of a troll.
Go back under your bridge and look for balls. Hope you shank everything you look at. Have a 5 putt, asshole.

I saw the alleged video of the incident in question. For all I know, it could have been the Navy SEALs & the fleet practicing for this very thing, but both the US and Iran are showing footage, so I tend to believe that it was real.

The strange part though is that that I didn't see anyone near a 20mm deck gun or a 50cal.....but the video was hardly HD.

Thse are some nappy headed hoes!!! That was not Imus saying that but actually it was Sugabear from Starksy and Hutch. Radio interference cuased a cross up and from that we go Al Sharpton's involvement.

This is silly-The US and Iran are taking us to WW3 and it's nothing none of us can do about it.

I just have a really bad feeling this was electioneering.
I was in the gym Mon and Tues, and the TVs on CNN and Fox were running footage of boats running around the destroyers.

But they were also running footage of these little boats actually firing off rockets, and footage of destroyers firing their guns.
The media footage made it look like there was an actual shooting war going on in the Gulf.

And now we find out this whole thing could've been blown all out of proportion?
The whole thing stinks. Was an effort deliberately made to scare the voters into voting for the more pro-war candidates on both sides.

Because that's exactly what happened.

Is U.S. cedibility really that important to you? Most countries have always hated us, get used to it.

What astounding ignorance.

I hope you golf better than you reason. You're a kook.

"Is U.S. cedibility really that important to you? Most countries have always hated us, get used to it.

Actually, the truth is probably somewhere in between "Certain countries hate us no matter what" and the belief that foreign opinion of us is entirely dependent on our actions. It isn't.

In some places, hating us is taught as a religious duty and has been for decades. Much more common is the need on the part of some to blame some nefarious foreign plot for all their problems and a "superpower" makes a good bad guy. And of course, anti-Americanism becomes fashionable in certain places from time to time and people follow the trend with little thought behind it. It isn't as if bigotry, stupidity and assholes are unique to the US.

I have a friend going to school in Holland where occasionally someone will go on an anti-American rant. The Dutch economy is basically run by Germany but for some reason it is stylish in some circles to claim they are being exploited by the US. There is so little substance behind it that the temptation to respond is very low. His European friends seem more offended by it than he is.

How can one day you have public news reports from the pentagon saying that Iran threatend the US ships and even going so far as having video and the president of the US issue a warning to Iran to going the next day and saying they are not sure of the threat?

"FFD"...You sir are just to fucking stupid to be considered anything but a laughing stock, except for the most Partisian of Asshole to claim the Bush was better then Clinton, in this context, is not only stupid but really show more of your Character than you may want the rest of us to see.

This Administration and there Military cannot be trusted, the military leadership in this Country leans much to much to the right of the political system. These men at the top of the Military ladder should be nuteral they are not. One only has to see the retired Military leaders advising Faux Noise to see that.

Expect in the next few news cycles to see that this was not what the american people were told, we were lied to once again. Having said that even if we were lied to you scum sucking dicks on the right will make excuses for them, you dumb fuck truly have no shame!

It's called propaganda.

you should refer to Goebbels Principles of Propaganda.

Bushco refers to it all the time.

NEW EVIDENCE SPARKS UNCERTAINTY OVER US-IRAN NAVAL INCIDENT IN HORMUZ
Iranian video shows apparently routine activity by Iranian patrol boats, while Pentagon officials say radio threat may not have been from Iranian forces.

"How can one day you have public news reports from the pentagon saying that Iran threatend the US ships and even going so far as having video and the president of the US issue a warning to Iran to going the next day and saying they are not sure of the threat?"

Because someone was in fact issuing threats over the radio and now they are admitting that they may have made an error in saying it was the Iranians aboard the boats.

The fact that the Pentagon is conceding that previous claims may not be true kind of rules out a conspiracy. They are just admitting the may be wrong - a foreign concept on this site for sure.

How can one day you have public news reports from the pentagon saying that Iran threatend the US ships and even going so far as having video and the president of the US issue a warning to Iran to going the next day and saying they are not sure of the threat?

because we can't afford to have the smoking mushroom turn out to be an aluminum speedboat, can we?

Easy bake recipe to start an illegal war with Iran:

1 - Blame them for foreign fighters in iraq: check
Result: failure

2 - Blame them for weapons and ieds in iraq: check
Result: failure

3 - Accuse them of building a nuclear arsenal: check
Result: failure

4 - Create an incident in international waters by fabricating evidence: check
Result: failure.

5 - Your guess is as good as mine.

Beating the drums, beating the drums...just don't be the sucker that believes this shit. As boy dunder once tried to say: fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

How about we just dress this embarrassing bum up as a crossdresser with a sign on his back that says "Allah is my bitch" and drop him by parachute into the revolutionary guards HQ. Definite youtube moment.

Someone should do a voice analysis comparing the "mystery voice" with, oh, I don't know... maybe Dick Cheney.

Coming next season to CSI: Tehran

It is a sad day when the level of distrust we Americans have toward our own government and military is the same level of distrust we have for a hostile foreign government.

"It is a sad day when the level of distrust we Americans have toward our own government and military is the same level of distrust we have for a hostile foreign government."

In this case, we seem to be paranoid about our own military and completely oblivious to the fact that a hostile foreign government is hostile.

The fact that the Pentagon is admitting it may have been mistaken should mitigate conspiracy paranoia in this case but it doesn't. If they cooked up this whole scenario, why would they change the story now? Meanwhile, the possibility that the Iranian government could have sent those messages to provoke us without the knowledge of the people on the speedboats seems to be ignored.

From the tapes I saw, if I was in command of the ship I would have blown them out of the water when they came at me.

Well the rest of us are just glad that you are supervised.

"""completely oblivious to the fact that a hostile foreign government is hostile."""

The repeated attempts of vilification are just too obvious, the right-wing nuts running to the media to scream a) foreign fighters in iraq are from iran, we need to bomb b) weapons in iraq are from iran, we need to bomb c) nuclear holocaust if we don't bomb d) obvious provocation by little tiny weenie boats, we need to bomb.

C'mon. From the outside, we're seeing a hostile government implicated in these incidents, unfortunately, it's the u.s., as is-was-will be the case in iraq for the next few decades.

PanchoVilla: In light of the rhetoric coming out of Tehran the past couple of years, I would not be so quick to say that the US was the hostile party in this incident. As Sully correctly points out, it is the US military which openly and immediately acknowledged the ambiguity of the encounter when some inconsistencies came to light. There has been no cover-up or conspiracy by the US to start war. Rather, it is undisputed that four armed Iranian boats came within two hundred yards of US ships at high speed, and initially disregarded commands to back off. Under these circumstances, had the ship's captain opened fired, I think it probably would have been justified. I believe it is because of the professionalism of the CO, and the desire to avoid conflict at all costs that gunfire in fact was avoided.

"If they cooked up this whole scenario, why would they change the story now?

Perhaps someone threatened to blow the whistle on their fanciful tale unless they retracted?

"""There has been no cover-up or conspiracy by the US to start war. """

Iraq.

"""In light of the rhetoric coming out of Tehran the past couple of years.."""

It pales when compared to the rhetoric coming from the u.s.

When was the last time iran threatened to attack the u.s.?

"""US military which openly and immediately acknowledged the ambiguity of the encounter when some inconsistencies came to light. """"

Inconsistencies = proof from someone else that puts bullet holes in their claim.

"""I believe it is because of the professionalism of the CO, and the desire to avoid conflict at all costs that gunfire in fact was avoided."""

The guy followed protocol (for a fucking change), no more, no less. While he might have done his job, the wingnuts ran to the media to foment the sheep, to falsely justify some military or terrorist intervention against iran.

You guys have a bunch of really fucked up people in charge of your country and they have fucked up so badly that many on this planet call into question any claim that is made to justify another war, another attack, another coup, another murder, etc. etc. etc.

Get rid of those fuckers and the world might start believing again.

The biggest threat to world peace: GWB, by a long shot.

"C'mon. From the outside, we're seeing a hostile government implicated in these incidents'

We're talking about this particular incident. What would be the point of saying the Iranians threatened us, not doing anything about it and then admitting we can't say for sure it was them?

That makes no sense. And it seems kooky to accuse people of creating a conspiracy whose only result was to call into question the competency of the alleged conspirators.

"You guys have a bunch of really fucked up people in charge of your country and they have fucked up so badly that many on this planet call into question any claim that is made to justify another war, another attack, another coup, another murder, etc. etc. etc."

Our leadership is fucked up. But people who cook up conspiracies that can't possibly make any sense at all are still nuts.

And why do you keep trying to interject Iraq into this specific situation?

""We're talking about this particular incident. """

No. We're talking about a series of failed attempts over the past 6 months to justify an attack, this attempt being the latest. That's what bush is driving at: justifying another unprovoked attack on a country...and you're right: it makes no sense.

I don't think you can refute the fact that the neocons are beating the war drums. Thank god this time their tune isn't catching on.

"""What would be the point of saying the Iranians threatened us, not doing anything about it and then admitting we can't say for sure it was them?"""

Honestly? I can't tell. What was the point of accusing Iran for all foreign fighters in iraq when it was obvious that their actual origin was SA? What was the point of saying iran was on the verge of starting wwIII or a nuclear holocaust when bush already knew that they were far from being nuclear, having had the report months before his dubious claim?

What I do know is that bush as well as those under his thumb lie like they breathe, and often have ulterior motives that are far from those that are presented to the public.

I wish the fucker would go to a zoo and taunt a tiger.

"""And why do you keep trying to interject Iraq into this specific situation?"""

Because of the obvious similarities: no real reason to attack, except of distaste and desire as well as the similarities in the build-up. Tunnel vision tends to limit comprehension...look at the complete u.s. vs. ME picture.

"""But people who cook up conspiracies that can't possibly make any sense at all are still nuts. """

I agree: cue bush.

But why do it, and then admit it?

I get the feeling that there are some factions at odds with each other in the Pentagon.

Who the hell is in charge over there?
The Gang that can't shoot straight?
What a bunch numbnutz......

What would happen if N Korea or China was Cruising up and down the Northwest pacific coast?
How would we handle that situation?

The Pentagon can't "confirm" the story? You know thats not too hard to believe considering that the Pentagon also can't confirm what actually hit its building on 9/11! Funny too because various news people have indicated that the Pentagon, being a high security area,is surrounded, from top to bottom,by scores of video cameras.Even with this amount of surrounding,hi tek surveillance the Pentagon only had one video to release to the public (5 years after 9/11) and it only showed a blurry, flashing white light and then a burst of reddish flame.Nobody in the Pentagon or in the entire avionics field could identify what kind of aircraft, missle or vehicle was on that video.Seeing that the Pentagon gets an annual budget of around $400 Billion its amazing how abjectly lax it is in its own security and surveillance.
