pot, meet kettle.

criticizes u.s. for our relationships with latin america "dictatorships" and then settles in cuba?

wtf?

The SOB was responsible for harm to his fellow workers. Good riddance of a scumbag.

He loved dictators. He only required that they be leftist dictators. He loved Castro. The only one whom he deceived with his posturing, was himself. He had his five minutes of fame, and now he'll be "a long time dead."

"HAVANA (AP) -- Former CIA agent Philip Agee, a critic of U.S. foreign policy who infuriated American intelligence officials by naming purported agency operatives in a 1975 book, has died, state media reported Wednesday. He was 72.

Agee quit the CIA in 1969 after 12 years working mostly in Latin America at a time when leftist movements were gaining prominence and sympathizers. His 1975 book "Inside the Company: CIA Diary," cited alleged CIA misdeeds against leftists in the region and included a 22-page list of purported agency operatives.

Granma, Cuba's Communist Party newspaper, said Agee died Monday night and described him as "a loyal friend of Cuba and fervent defender of the peoples' fight for a better world."

Bernie Dwyer, a journalist with state-run Radio Havana, said in a Tuesday message posted to a Cuba e-mail group that Agee's wife called him to say he had died after ulcer surgery in a hospital where he has he been since Dec. 15.

"He had several operations for perforated ulcers and didn't survive all the surgery," Dwyer wrote, adding that Agee was cremated Tuesday and that friends planned a memorial ceremony for him Sunday at his Havana apartment.

Agee's U.S. passport was revoked in 1979. U.S. officials said he had threatened national security. After years of living in Hamburg, Germany -- occasionally underground, fearing CIA retribution -- Agee moved to Havana to open a travel Web site."

Oh, and Wisgod, it's an AP story - referenced in the first line - ok?

So, which was worse, Batista or Castro? At least Batista didn't let Russia put in a bunch of missiles.

Castro realy brought Cuba into the new world. They are still driving 40s and 50s cars down there. He's the man.

I remember tellng dat that they were finaly going to get rid of that damn dictator. Dad told me that what was comming in was even worse. I guess he was right.

What a hypocritical loser.

Good riddance to a classic leftist ahole.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.....

Somebody probably had a similar conversation in Iraq about 5 years ago.

Cuba has always made us go ballistic, Democrats or Republicans, makes no difference. We've tried to kill Castro with poison pills, toxic cigars and exploding molluscs. Apparently it's the full moon.

"Fabian Escalante, who, for a time, had the job of keeping El Commandante alive, has calculated that there have been a total of 638 attempts on Castro's life. That may sound like a staggeringly high figure, but then the CIA were pretty keen on killing him. As Wayne Smith, former head of the US interests section in Havana, pointed out recently, Cuba had the effect on the US that a full moon has on a werewolf. It seems highly likely that if the CIA had had access to a werewolf, it would have tried smuggling it into the Sierra Maestra at some point over the past 40-odd years."

Good grief, I read the Guardian article. It's amazing that they had access to such information regarding plots that never materialized. It makes you wonder.

Do you think that it may be fictional as to details?

someone needs to take a giant shit on his grave.. This guy is a dirtbag.

Johnson,

The CIA has tried to kill Castro numerous times. Only people who don't want want to know it don't know it.

Kissinger to President Ford in a declassified document:

"For example, Robert Kennedy personally managed the operation on the assassination of Castro."

Nothing worse than a traitor who would out a CIA agent for monitary or political gain, thats for sure.

Such patriotic indignation for this guy but many of the same folks give Sccoter and his buddies a pass.
Also undeniable are the crimes that our CIA was committing at the time, they weren't exactly humanitarians. I can't approve of what this guy did but I also can't honestly say that he did anything worse than some members of the present administration.

"He had several operations for perforated ulcers and didn't survive all the surgery,"

Damn! I thought Cuba had the best medical plans and services in the world.

Where's your Micheal Moore now?

Et Tu, Cheney?

I wasn't the one who gave you the initial spanking. I think that was someone from the left side of the aisle. Carry on.

Okay, now I really need to know what this guy's actual ties were, and why Cuba? This smacks of 41's Stainless Arbusto Deli.

From what I gather here, Phillip Agee's an ex-intelligence operative which makes him an American traitor who, "In 2000, he helped set up a travel agency that sought to bring Americans to Cuba, in violation of a US trade embargo."

I'm not sure I understand a few things:

1. What data did he really have and give to whom prior to "retiring"?

2. Why establish a personal business with express purpose to violate, and or aggravate U.S. Cuban laws?

3. If he's so "dangerous", why not off him? Is he covered in bin Laden juice?

4. What Cuban or local assistance was he getting? Did the neighbors see him as just another business, or suspect a CIA operation? Any good local reporting yet? Legit, babelfishable conspiracy theory's welcome.

Imo, you guys are possibly missing the mark.

All targets up!

"But what counter-insurgency really comes down to is the protection of the capitalists back in America, their property and their privileges. U.S. national security, as preached by U.S. leaders, is the security of the capitalist class in the US, not the security of the rest of the people." -- Philip Agee, CIA Diary, p562

For once I aggree with you. Powell and his buddy Arm a ditch should do jail time.

I hope he lived a miserable life.

Please. WhiskeySour, give us all a break with that mess. It has been shown time and time again, and even in court, that it was very well known that Plame worked for the CIA before anyone in the Bush administration said aything about it.

And was she so high up that her life was really in danger from being "outed"? Her hubby is the one who made all the stink about it because he is a well known Bush hater. There never has, nor ever will be, any danger to them from operatives in other countries because of her being named.

Get over it.

Hey Wis-y. Over it. Thanks! I'm in my "everyone is swell and we should all be drinking beer together" persona.
