Joe Biden needs a better than expected finish in the Iowa caucuses in order to survive in the presidential race. His pitch? Foreign policy matters at home. "Imagine the person you've picked to caucus for," the Delaware senator told roughly 150 people at a Newton community center on Monday. "Are they prepared at this moment to know what to do in Pakistan? Are they prepared -- at this moment -- to know what they would do in the war in Iraq? Not generally say I want to get the troops out, but how. And what’s going to be left behind."

Biden is a brilliant man when it comes to understanding foreign affairs.
If I were President -- and I'd make a damn good one too! -- I would appoint Joe Biden as either my Secretary of State or Secretary of Defense.

Obama/ Biden '08.

Be Well.

PS: Joe is one of the few good eggs.

When the Dems win somebody (Hopefully Obama) better utilise him effectively otherwise they are wasting a great resource.

He's one of the best and clearest straight talkers in the race.

I agree. When it comes to foreign policy, it's a shame that noone has taken advantage of Joe's knowledge. Besides that, he's one tough SOB.

Joe is likely the sharpest candidate the Dems have, but he has a habit of putting his foot in his mouth, so the money doesn't back him, which makes him un-electable.

It's a shame really. I'd vote for him.

An Obama/Biden Ticket would be an interesting marriage of the old guard with the new. As much as I admire Biden's foreign policy credentials(He has the only sensible plan for Iraq that I've seen, outside of just leaving), he is still a career politician married to party. Which sort of speaks against the whole "Obama means change" thing.

Either way, with Biden, I'd be forced to watch all the VP debates, the man is definately fun to watch.

Biden VP to a freshman Senator with little real experience like Obama ? Pleeease.

Biden is the only real guy on the Dem side against McCain on the other side.

Biden can beat any of the Republicans and should be the Dem candidate.

In fact he may end up fourth in Iowa from all available information and once the press gives him the face time, could emerge as the compromise candidate.

I've been supporting Biden for a year and contributing to his campaign on a steady basis.

Nice to see others finally noticing him.

That's wot Spud was thinkin of too.

Imagine Obama squaring off against any of the GOPhers currently running who manage to get the RT nod.

Now imagine Joe squaring off against whoever the GOPhers number two guy is!

Woo Hoo!

From a Dem perspective it would be like shooting fish in a barrel only easier and more fun.

Even easier than than shooting them tied up Quail-tards that Drunken Dickless the mighty hunter is always taking down. ^_^

Be Well.

MY my GZ. You must have a congenital attraction to losers.

Your point was OK until you threw a 2-term VP into it. Oh well, Oh Canada.

GZ

You're right. I'd like to hear more on Biden's views on free trade, neocons, open borders, pre-emptive wars, outsourcing of jobs, etc. I guess I could check out his website.

Too bad the really good guys for the job -- like Joe Biden -- never seem to have a chance.

I'd vote for Biden over Edwards. I really can't figure out the support Edwards is getting throughout the blogs. I'm pulling for Obama all the way, but if he doesn't make it, I really don't want Hillary or Edwards.
Biden should be third.

Biden is still running???? Say...a tree fell in the woods yesterday, wasn't there.

Seriously though, he's one of the smartest and best-equipped adviser/VP candidates out there. He will undoubtedly be an asset either as Sec. of State, VP, or some other high-level appointment. As long as a Dem or even a moderate Republican wins in 'O8, he won't have to polish his resume any, he's got a job.

In fact, I think he should hang up the campaign now and save his energy for when it really matters....and that's not a knock on him. There are 300 million other people who won't be President either.

Which one's Biden again?

I'd vote for Biden and Dodd over any of the other Democrats.

McCain is the only Republican I'd vote for.

Anybody
But
Clinton

Your point was OK until you threw a 2-term VP into it.

Yeah? Yer WH was OK until you threw a pair of 2-term War Criminals into it.

Which one's Biden again?

The white haired guy on the left who makes sense.

As oppposed to the delusional pack of snake oil salesman, neo-conmen, magical underwear wearing, serial marrying, evolution denying, dirty politicking, lying sacks of reality impaired ignorANUSES on the right*.

*(with the exception of Ron Paul)

Thanx fer askin'.

Obama/ Biden '08.

Be Well.

Oh. So is that why he's in fifth place among the Dems?

I've got four words for Joe (Why am I nor informed?) Biden... Loose lips sink ships.

I'm not Norwegian... I meant not.

Biden won't accept the VP slot I think. He may accept Sec. of State or something similar. Actually I think he is more valuable in the Senate than as VP. Someone from the south or the west would be a better pick.

I've been supporting Biden for a year and contributing to his campaign on a steady basis.

Biden's my candidate too. I recently began donating to his campaign. I'm holding out hope that he'll surprise people with a second- or third-place showing in Iowa and the media will start taking him seriously.

I really, really respect Joe Biden. While his chances are slim to win int he next 3 primaries, if he did I'd be just fine with that. If he loses Iowa and NH he'd be a great VP pick. Either way, he's a great American and true public servant.

Enjoy the caucuses. This is the most exciting year in decades IMHO.

RCADE

From a 'caucus style' point of view, should Biden drop out who would be your #2 pick if you don't mind saying....

Biden would indeed be a good VP choice. And he'd make a terrific Sec. of State.

And he'd make a terrific Sec. of State.

Ditto. He's an asset in whatever position of public service he chooses.

Biden is probably the best man on either side for the job but he hasn't a chance and that is unfortunate.Only when we change the way we appoint leaders in this country will we get he best person for the job.

Tough call, but if I was voting in Iowa today my second choice would be Obama.

Only when we change the way we appoint leaders in this country will we get he best person for the job.

How would you change the way?

2006 was a turning point in lack of interest in politics. I witnessed hundreds of people staning in the pouring rain for hours and not leaving the line and their chance to vote. I have a feeling this year's elections will prove a turning point.

The fact that Iowa and New Hampshire are small enough to offer an opportunity for the candidates to meet people up close and personally coupled with who they're responding to has been refreshing to see. They're turning to candidates who promise to govern as Americans - not Red-Americans or Blue-Americans. Perhaps if Obama wins we will be done with hyphenating our identity and start living as 'Americans'. i only say that because I find it unlikely that America will elect any GOP candidate this year. Either because of usual 'change of party' reasons, anti-NeoCon wave, etc. But, I feel a palpable buzz everywhere I go. People are really interested this time unlike decades of apathy.

Find a way similar to the way CEO's at corporations are appointed. Putting a person in charge of a nation based on his popularity looks or how much money he/she has is asking for trouble. Secondly I'm sure you have always heard the sayings about the need to get out to vote. Well the sad fact is most people don't know squat about the issues and I think it's crime to tell these people to go out and vote on issues and for people that they know nothing about. Put it this way: if you are out hunting and you hear rustling in the bushes do you take the shot?

Biden once said:

I am a Zionist," stated Senator Biden. "You don't have to be a Jew to be a Zionist."

www.youtube.com

I don't care if he was feeding a line to a reporter or not, if you are a candidate for American office make this pandering statement you don't deserve to be president of ANYTHING in America, except perhaps Prez of AIPAC. In any event, declaring loyalty to zionism would seriously undermine his credibility as someone who would do the right thing for America in a critical foreign policy role.

hell, I did not even know he was running.

Beekeeper: What do you think Biden meant when he said he's a Zionist? The simplest definition is that he supports Israel's right to be a Jewish homeland, which says nothing about how he feels about Israel/Palestine and is standard U.S. policy.

i have read the definition of Zionism as thus: " is the national liberation movement of the Jewish people, which holds that Jews, like any other nation, are entitled to a homeland."

Rcade, I see that Zionism is no longer defined as an entitlement to a homeland, because the Jews already have a homeland and have since 1948. Now Zionism is equated to the right to do whatever it takes to secure that homeland, even if it means interfering in the rights of other nations to secure theirs. I believe that an American who considers themself a Zionist automatically set themselves up for supporting issues of benefit to Israel at the possible cost of their own nation's security.

I would argue that a zionist could never be completely faithful to the security interests of his or her own country and at the same time support Israel's as well.

Can it be for once about the USA? It is our election, for chrissakes. Let Israel develop their own nukes, vaporize the oil, and then we can get on with Armageddon. Excuse me, I have to dead lift a Toyota.

Now will Senator Robert Byrd apologize for using the word..."White Negro".
The reason I left the Democratic Party is because they do just th opposite of what the claim to go against.
*They give my black people free houses so they can never educate themselves and continue to live in poor conditions.

*Deny us school vauchers so our kids continue to live in areas that are continuing to have violance and drugs.

*The promote phony leaders like Al and Jesse Jackson and make us hate educated blacks like Powell and Rice.

DEMOCRATS bring the slavery issues and play with it to look good. But they hate us.....they hate us we need to wake the hell up.

*They make us hate BIG CORPORATIONS...this is insane. I love them...they give me a paycheck. If you hate them do not go to work damn it.
*Get off your welfare mentallity...

Hey, CMSAIR - try being ORIGINAL, and stop posting the SAME CRAP on every TOPIC. It TASKS me.

Now will Senator Robert Byrd apologize for using the word..."White Negro".

Senator Byrd has never stopped apologising for using those words or his membership in the Klan.

*They give my black people free houses so they can never educate themselves and continue to live in poor conditions.

"My" black people? Are you a slave owner?

Dems give away free houses now? News to Spud!

Wot does living in a free house have to do with education?

Wot does any of that have to do with "poor conditions"?

*Deny us school vauchers so our kids continue to live in areas that are continuing to have violance and drugs.

First off, the Right freakin' love School Vouchers.

Look at New Orleans. BushCo used the disaster there to destroy the public school system, disempower the teachers unions and start up a bunch of for-profit charter schools owned by their cronies which re-hired some of those teachers back at reduced pay with little to no rights.

Violence and drugs in black neighbourhoods are mostly the result of an acceptance and glorification of violence and drugs in black culture alongside systemic poverty that is partly the fault of a racist society. It has nothing to do with either political party. Some folk try to reverse this trend, of course. Bill Cosby speaks out on reversing these trends. Black Churches like the one Barack Obama and Oprah attend in Chicago are making a real difference too.

*The promote phony leaders like Al and Jesse Jackson and make us hate educated blacks like Powell and Rice.

Coupla here, first Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are lousy leaders nobody is disputing that but at least they are trying to lead and there are no equivilants to them on the right.

Powell? BushCo used the credibility he had built up over the course of a lifetime all in a coupla of minutes by lying to the UN justifying the "need" for war with Iraq. They played his black ass like a bongo drum and seriously fucked him up.

Neo-Condi? Nephew puh-lease! BushCo is an oil-igarchy. Neo-Condi sat on the board of Chevron fer 10 years and had an oil tanker named after her. She's been their token black and woman since they came to power. She's been one of the most ineffective and counter-productive Secretaries of State in the country's history.

DEMOCRATS bring the slavery issues and play with it to look good. But they hate us.....they hate us we need to wake the hell up.

The GOP always claim to have a "Big Tent" but in truth it is a BIG WHITE TENT.

Most Black folk who pay attention are painfully aware of that fact plus the fact that the GOP is the natural home for racists, sexists, religiously intolerant folks, homophobes and morons.

*They make us hate BIG CORPORATIONS...this is insane. I love them...they give me a paycheck. If you hate them do not go to work damn it.
*Get off your welfare mentallity..

Both parties are pro-Corporate sad to say.

The GOPhers are the unrepenatant corporate whores who have sold out to their corporate cronies in the US and their counter-parts around the world. Yer great grand kids will still be paying for their mistakes.

Now quit repeating (and misspelling) badly understood right wing talking points and then either start paying attention or go and join the Klan.

Read a book.

"Not no sports page.
Not no magazine.
But a book, nephew
A mother fucking book!"

Be Well.

Just saw on msnbc that Biden has dropped out.

Find a way similar to the way CEO's at corporations are appointed.

George was CEO of two companies. He bankrupted both.

Ken Lay or Bernie Ebbers might have been willing, but not for 200 grand a year.
They spent that much on birthday parties.
