Conflicting reports about the death of political leader Benazir Bhutto have people wondering about the Pakistani equivalent of a second gunman on the grassy knoll.

Sort of like the Monk episode called "the six way killer".

Head trauma, bullet wound, schrapnel...who cares?

She's dead and the chaos will continue, with or without your scapegoat Bush.

I say she was murderized by long range sniper dude.

"There was a clear bullet wound at the back of the neck. It went in one direction and came out another... My entire car is coated with her blood, my clothes, everybody - so she did not concuss her head against the sun roof."

news.bbc.co.uk

Everyone knows it was suicide.

It is very easy for a bomb to go off by remote and claim it was a "suicide bomber".

When Bhutto was previously attcked, they all said "suicide bomber", though eye-witnesses claimed otherwise.

It might be the same here. They'll pick up the body parts of some sucker caught in the explosion and say "thaars yer suicide bomber fella..."... maybe.. nobody knows.

Bomb blast could've been a distraction. The sniper dude was really really good, it looks like. (if the sniper story is true, that is)

I hope you don't mind if I ask you a personal question. If so, it's OK

It's about you being in Pakistan. I've been looking at the site meter and it does not show any posts coming from that country.

Could your server perhaps be in Dubai?

The site meter isn't always on target but it shows my location and the location of others I know on this site but not you.

I'm just curious.

"Everyone knows it was suicide."

Said no better than Mark Steyn:

Benazir Bhutto's return to Pakistan had a mad recklessness about it which give today's events a horrible inevitability. As I always say when I'm asked about her, she was my next-door neighbor for a while - which affects a kind of intimacy, though in fact I knew her only for sidewalk pleasantries. She was beautiful and charming and sophisticated and smart and modern, and everything we in the west would like a Muslim leader to be - though in practice, as Pakistan's Prime Minister, she was just another grubby wardheeler from one of the world's most corrupt political classes.

Since her last spell in power, Pakistan has changed, profoundly. Its sovereignty is meaningless in increasingly significant chunks of its territory, and, within the portions Musharraf is just about holding together, to an ever more radicalized generation of young Muslim men Miss Bhutto was entirely unacceptable as the leader of their nation. "Everyone's an expert on Pakistan, a faraway country of which we know everything," I wrote last month. "It seems to me a certain humility is appropriate." The State Department geniuses thought they had it all figured out. They'd arranged a shotgun marriage between the Bhutto and Sharif factions as a "united" "democratic" "movement" and were pushing Musharraf to reach a deal with them. That's what diplomats do: They find guys in suits and get 'em round a table. But none of those representatives represents the rapidly evolving reality of Pakistan. Miss Bhutto could never have been a viable leader of a post-Musharraf settlement, and the delusion that she could have been sent her to her death. Earlier this year, I had an argument with an old (infidel) boyfriend of Benazir's, who swatted my concerns aside with the sweeping claim that "the whole of the western world" was behind her. On the streets of Islamabad, that and a dime'll get you a cup of coffee.

As I said, she was everything we in the west would like a Muslim leader to be. We should be modest enough to acknowledge when reality conflicts with our illusions. Rest in peace, Benazir.

Twinpac:

I recently dumped my cable-internet and am temporarily using a CDMA wireless phone to connect.

As far as I know, the servers should be in Karachi.

Pakistan gets most of it's Internet bandwidth from Dubai (undersea fiberoptic cables) as far as I know. Perhaps that is why?

This is the phone I'm using:

Thanks. That explains why Dubai is showing up on the map.

Someone here suggested that you weren't even in Pakistan.

I hope your post puts that to rest.

Three different stories on her death. I don't know about you...but I TRUST the governments' account. (I hit my head on my sunroof once and got a nasty bump.)
Do they actually think anyone is going to believe that stupid cause of death? They killed the woman..now they will have to live with the retaliation.

This spin reminds me of the JFK autopsy.

I read another report yesterday that speculated that her enemies were confusing the issue in an attempt to deny her martyrdom. Certainly another possibility, now that the bodies in the ground.

Now apparently, the Paki. Gov. is saying it's okay to exhume the body. If a legitimate autopsy is not carried out I would say there is an obvious cover-up.

TWINPAC,

IPs arent a reliable indicator of location, for numerous reasons.

The most obvious is VPN. No matter where in the world I may be I will be using an IP block that is typically allocated to Chicago locations.

TOX

I'm aware of that but I had to ask.

Someone (can't remember who) was casting doubt about Tosser's authenticity.

My only purpose was to put the doubt to rest. I'll cut n' paste Tosser's reply if it comes up again, which it will if I know the Doubting Thomas nature of some of my fellow Retorters.

You should join us insomniacs sometime. We're a lot more fun than the daytime group. 2:30 am to 6:00 am usually. Weekends suck but we get some real classics during the week. Sometimes we're even sober. (That wasn't nice. I'm sorry I said that) LOL

Have you met TADOWE yet?

Three different stories on her death. I don't know about you

It's sort of a moot point isn't it -- whether she died by gunshot, the shock blast from the bombing, or a fractured skull as she dove back into the vehicle when the attack took place-- she is still dead as the result of an attack on her by assassins.

BOWA

It's not a moot point.

Death by a gunshot is a lot more serious than cracking her noggin on a sunroof.

Of course she's still dead as a result of an attack by an assassin . . . but if someone pulled a trigger first (it's on video tape) it would be nice to know who it was.

If I recall the original version, the assassin blew himself up AFTER she was shot.

Nice spin though.

Nice spin though.

It's not a moot point.

Of course, I didn't mean Bhutto's death is a "moot" point. I meant to write, that it was a "mute" point. If I'd meant to write that it was a "moot" point I'd sound like an idiot.
Thanks for the heads-up, Twinpac.
Yrs,
B

However, I'm partly right.
Because Bhutto's been mute on the matter.
So maybe it's Benazir who thinks it's a moot point.
Half empty, half full, point of view and all that.
Toodles,
B

I think we can rule out food poisoning.

It's not a moot point - it's a Moo point.

You know, like what cows think - who cares? It's "Moo"

(tip o' the hat to Friends)

Nice spin though.

What spin twinpac? All I am saying is that whatever the actual cause of death turns out to be, gunshot, fractured skull, or bomb blast -- it's still a result of an attack by at least one assassin.

Death by a gunshot is a lot more serious than cracking her noggin on a sunroof.

Not under the circumstances-- she wouldn't have cracked "her noggin" if she wasn't diving for cover back into the car because of the gunshots and bomb blast.

Of course she's still dead as a result of an attack by an assassin

Well, duh.

but if someone pulled a trigger first (it's on video tape) it would be nice to know who it was.

And I'm not saying it wouldn't be. And I hope some "zapruder" film of the assassination is discovered. Given that so many wackos in this world actually believe that a cruise missile hit the pentagon instead of a airliner, etc. I doubt that whatever the conclusion is, there will be plenty of people who refuse to believe it because it conflicts with the narrative of their worldview.

I doubt that whatever the conclusion is, there will be plenty of people who refuse to believe it because it conflicts with the narrative of their worldview.

I meant, "I doubt IT WILL BE OVER, BECAUSE whatever the conclusion is, there will be plenty of people who refuse to believe it because it conflicts with the narrative of their worldview.

Have a look at today's front page of DAWN (Pakistani newspaper).

You can see the assasin shooting at her.

Make sure they have updated it to *today's" paper. It updated at 12 noon local time.

Read this as well, please.

I wonder whether most people in America actually understand why a stable Pakistan allied with America is such a big deal. Reading many blogs over the last few days I get the impression that many people make the mistake of thinking that this situation does not really affect us. Such a misperception in this instance could result in groups like the Taliban and Al Qaeda establishing far firmer ties in Pakistan than they ever once dreamed possible. Which over time will translate to more terrorism and death in the West.

Which over time will translate to more terrorism and death in the West.

What a bunch of hooey!

Pakistan means nothing, nothing at all other than making it easier or more difficult for the U.S. to take over weak middle east oil.

Taliban is there and has been there for 50 years, and Al-queda will exist any place in any country they want to exist.

You are stuck in some delusion that this meaningless country has some effect upon our value......it is laughable.

...And on cue, proving my point, is the biggest cabbage in the vegetable garden.

I would tend to agree more with Moneywar...

For example, according to Eric Margolis, the US has to have the use of 3 air-bases inside Pakistan if they want to attack Iran. Without those air-bases and supplies, an attack on Iran would be harder than comfort level.

...And on cue, proving my point, is the biggest cabbage in the vegetable garden.

Yes, and that point was coming from the TOP of your head!

It was an idiotic opinion of pejorical rhetoric in which I gave an equal more prudent enlightened opinion in kind.

----this meaningless country has some effect upon our value-----

Moneywar:

"The fastest way to the White House is through Islamabad".

All your presidential hopefuls seem to have a Pakistan fixation since last few days.

LOL

Tosser,

All your presidential hopefuls seem to have a Pakistan fixation since last few days.

Well look, we have far too many shit scared people like moder8 who lack even the remotest of common sense to understand NO country is a threat to the U.S. unless it is economically.

Our biggest threat now will be communist china who will be kicking our ass in about 10 years.

I have to laugh at the morons about terrorism, How is our world market system of economics doing....still all located in a single building? Still all located in a single city? And Yep, the are going to blow up a ferry crossing the mississippi.........really!

Economics yes. With the dollar in a free fall, the empire builders in Washington are running out of time. I wouldn't rule out some kind of fabricated 9/11 incident and a major attack on Iran. If it happens, it'll be after the election. A hostile Pakistan threatens to derail their war plans.

This video will blow you away. In an interview with David Frost, Bhutto said Bin Laden was assassinated. I was sure he was dead, but assassinated? Those recent tapes of him are too obviously forged. youtube
