The Bush administration told a federal judge it was not obligated to preserve videotapes of CIA interrogations of suspected terrorists and urged the court not to look into the tapes' destruction.

The first time BushCo say boo about the destruction of these tapes and it's to tell the Judge who ordered that they NOT BE DESTROYED that he "doesn't have to" investigate the destruction of said tapes?!

WTF?!

That this will somehow pervert the course of justice and "interfere" in the other ongoing investigations?

Wot sheer unmitigated gall, thinks Spud!

Here's Spud's favorite part...

Government lawyers told Kennedy the tapes were not covered by his court order because Zubaydah and al-Nashiri were not at the Guantanamo military prison in Cuba. The men were being held overseas in a network of secret CIA prisons. By the time President Bush acknowledged the existence of those prisons and the prisoners were transferred to Guantanamo, the tapes had been destroyed

Because the tapes were made at a top secret black site were not even the Red Cross or AI are allowed into it somehow makes it alright does it?

Do these ass-holes even know wot "Moral" means?

What the rule of Law is?!

IMPEACH.
INDICT.
IMPRISON.

Oh and... If ya got the time a good tar and feathering on pay-per-view wouldn't go amiss.

Now there's a tape that Spud would NEVER destroy.

Be Well.

Dear President Bush;
If you haven't done anything wrong, you've got nothing to hide.

The Drude Right

Translation of this argument from Bush administration: There is no one that can make me do anything I don't want to do. STFU judge. I am the dictator. Now run along and play. And take your little friend Congress with you.

I wonder if they have back-ups on CD

"Hear no evil
See no evil
Speak no evil"

Chump-Chimp-in-Chief

On thing Cheney and his gang have proved over the past 7 years: The American people are either too goddamned dumb or cowed to do anything about usurped power and/or the constitutional system is in dire need of repair with respect to the ability and tendency for the Executive branch to go cookoo bananas.

Doc,

The American People don't pay attention.

Bush and his veto pen are fighting a long rearguard action just to reach the end of his godawful presidency while those few left around him concoct increasingly outrageous defenses of previous wrongdoing with ever more untenable lies like this. What's next? We're innocent because you didn't tell us specifically not to do that particular illegal thing?

Six years of unchecked illegality, immorality, corruption, cronyism and sheer bloody incompetence followed by two years of belated accountability and investigation.

The country has passed through Bush fatigue to Bush sickness. Bush has passed through lame duck to dead duck. His is now a Potemkin presidency. There will be nothing happening for the next thirteen months behind that White House facade except some grotesque parody of government.

YAV, after too many decades observing and participaing in the political farce, I think you be a wise one. (As opposed to a wise guy.)

I wonder when the moronic right-wingers are going to chime in on this one?

Or do they dare?

--The functionally illiterate American people--

Its only reasonable to assume that the CIA still has "copies" of those infamous torture tapes. They're not turning them over for the simple reason that the Bush Govt.ordered them not to!

As far as the blatant corruption we're witnessing in this Torture-Gate case, the prediction has to be that it will never get to court and just fade away like the numerous other lies and crimes of the Bush Regime.

Why should they invistigate a non crime? WTF over.

Kennedy ordered the administration in June 2005 to safeguard "all evidence and information regarding the torture, mistreatment, and abuse of detainees now at the United States Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay."

WTF, LOL, Over!

Bush is scared - he will be out of power soon - time to clean house and cover up while he still can.

THAT is what the tapes were destroyed plain and simple. It wasn't done to protect an agents identity.

That lie is SO THIN I am surprised to see Gen Hayden trying to get away with it!

It's not like Congress is going to stand up to him, and the rest of the government will march in lock step.

Congress will not risk losing the next election in order to do what's right. They, like Bushco, want to rule, not to serve.

We are in so much trouble.

Not to worry. No rights come from the government. Ask anybody.

I wonder if they have back-ups on CD

Bush probably has them on his video ipod, watching them for amusement.

These Republicans are using advanced technology against us. When you wanted to destroy documents in the good old days, you had to do things the hard way ... like stuffing them down your pants and running out of the National Archives.

I am willing the bet that evidence destruction has been around since the stone tablet.

There were actually 15 commandments, but Moses didn't like the last 5 which included things like women's rights so he dropped that on and broke it before comming down from the mountain.

Seriously the god Mercury came and told me this last night, or was that the tooth fairy, or Jesus. Sorry I am getting my imaginary characters and mythology mixed up.

"Kennedy ordered... "

So, am I to understand that anything Kennedy says is the law of the land? LOL

If the destruction of the tapes was illegal, then those guilty should be prosecuted.

You guys and gals on the left are quite hysterical sometimes. You seemingly believe that the secret service never kept secrets until the Bush administration came along.

"When you wanted to destroy documents in the good old days, you had to do things the hard way ... like stuffing them down your pants and running out of the National Archives."

OK, but it would probably be more accurate to say:
"When you wanted to destroy COPIES of documents in the good old days, you had to do things the hard way ... like stuffing them down your pants and running out of the National Archives."

It's likely there would be no issue if the CIA destroyed COPIES of these tapes!

Three Branches of Government, You can look it up!

You seemingly believe that the secret service never kept secrets until the Bush administration came along.

No They just didn't so blatantly conceal and destroy records until Chimpy came along. See three Branches of Government...

Looks like we're progressing nicely through the "Five D's".

The Five D's (tm):
DENY: "Didn't do it."
DERIDE: "Shoot the messenger."
DISMISS: "It wasn't REALLY that bad."
DEFLECT: "They do it too (and worse)."
DEPART: "That's OLD NEWS, move on already."

DENY:
This is a tough one to do now that Michael Hayden has said that the tapes were destroyed.

DERIDE:
"So, am I to understand that anything Kennedy says is the law of the land? LOL"

DISMISS:
"Why should they invistigate a non crime? WTF over."

DEFLECT:

Just waiting now for a "Let's move on, shall we?".

OK who was AG during all of this debate on Berger?

Who had both houses of Legislature?

Who was the Presidents policy advisor?

If there was ANYTHING there, YOU tell me why THEY didn't do a thing about it?

Zap,

AGREED!

That was my point and also to dispel any attempt to equate the Sandy Berger incident with this CIA tape incident. Also, to avoid the usual "liberal media" canard, I referenced these particular links.

"So, am I to understand that anything Kennedy says is the law of the land? LOL

Kennedy the judge who issued the order, you dim bulb, not Kennedy the Senator.

No wonder...

LOL, indeed.

If any laws were broken, then the lawbreakers should be prosecuted. But apparently, no laws were broken. It's funny how the lefties will grasp at anything to try and throw mud at President Bush.

oh please....one of the first statements to the cia was from harriet myers and it was to them to NOT destroy these tapes......
of course the left wants them shown all over the country even though it would compromise the safety of those agents as well as show our enemy EXACTLY what we do and maybe even when......and thats okay with them but they scream like women when phlame sees to it that her husband is sent on a mission that could make bush look bad and being a secret agent at those parties and all.....thats pretty tough stuff, dont you know?

and even more......too many leftists think that the cia and the dept of state are all linked in arms with the president and thats not the case....
it is NO STRETCH To believe that the people who did this, did so because they knew it would get all of this bloviating from each of you and all over the country.......

It's funny how the lefties will grasp at anything to try and throw mud at President Bush.

So now "Bucholtz" is the law of the land?

It's still Three Branches of Goverment!

it is NO STRETCH To believe that the people who did this, did so because they knew it would get all of this bloviating from each of you and all over the country.......

It also no stretch to understand that it needs to be investigated and if it is as you say they belong in prison.

when phlame sees to it that her husband is sent on a mission that could make bush look bad

What Wilson found turned out to be dead nuts correct!

It wasn't in an effort to make Bush look bad but to deny Bush the most serious of the lies he used to get us into a war.

16 words in the State of the Union. Words that were known to be wrong long before the State of the Union.

TRUST ME, I NEVER LIE. Shrubs can't lie, its not in their nature.

"and thats okay with them but they scream like women when phlame sees to it that her husband is sent on a mission that could make bush look bad and being a secret agent at those parties and all"

When someone is so dishonest as to still be posting this lie, that you know very well has been disproven thousands of times, just makes anything you post just more of the same. The right just doesn't have an honest position from which to speak any more, they are left just repeating the same lies ad nauseum. After a while it starts being funny. A while later it starts being pathetic. Sort of like the sad old men muttering how we could have won in Vietnam if only.......sad really.

naw....come to doubt your bigoted and prejudiced view.....and as far as old men muttering......we only mutter about the good ole days when you didnt have to take viagra just to keep from pissing on your shoes at the urinal.

The above facts could not have been stated more correctly.

What Bush has done to this country and all that this greatest of all countries has stood for for the last 200 plus year is nearly unbelievable.

And this man has the gall to stand up and tell us "Jesus" is the most important person in his life because he changed his heart. If only he had heard one word of what Jesus Christ said or applied it to his sorry life.

"You sir are a power happy, war mongering, arrogant, ignorant, pathological liar and I hate you for what you have done to my country".

Thoes tapes wen't made at GITMO. I didn't know The fat boy was a judge. The whole thing has nothing to do with the tapes that were destroyed. You libs twist everything to suit your arguement.

"You libs twist everything to suit your arguement."

Yeah! Like the flaming liberal Pete Hoekstra!

"Despite the Justice Department's objections, a Congressional panel will press ahead with its investigation into destroyed CIA interrogation tapes, according to a key Republican on the panel.

'I think we will issue subpoenas,' said Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI), the House Intelligence Committee's ranking Republican, on Fox News Sunday (video below). 'And once these witness appear in front of the committee, then I think we'll have to make the decision as to whether we're going to provide them with immunity or not. But our investigation should move forward.'

'The CIA did not tell us about the existence of these tapes,' Hoekstra argued. 'They did not tell us that they were going to be destroyed. ... [T]here's a Constitutional responsibility for them to keep Congress informed and they have not and we need to hold them accountable.'"

"all evidence and information regarding the torture, mistreatment, and abuse of detainees now at the United States Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay."

At the time Bush was denying Torture, Rendition, along with holding prisoners in foreign prisons.

So answer me this, just who is twisting Justice to fit their Agenda.

Over!

I didn't know The fat boy was a judge.

That's the very least of what you don't know.

That is something you hold in common with Rebublican4ever, not reading a story yet commenting on it. I say with all do respect, commenting out of your ass.

I know it's a trust thing. A hint, smell the roses, George ain't Trustworthy.

Over...

Zap - I guess you didn't know that there is no one else in the country named Kennedy, so if that name appears in a headline or lead, it must be Ted. No need to read more!

You know, one of the people on the tapes is wearing a Blue Dress.

Does that change any minds?

(Sheep are funny.....)

Thoes tapes wen't made at GITMO

So laws don't apply outside the United States.

and so in a semi related story...from the NY times...some say his efforts to reach out to the dem congress have been replaced with a my way or the hiway approach....one said....he has replaced the coffe cups with his veto pen...
IN other word what the times is saying is that.....
when he acts just like EVERY DEM IN CONGRESS.....well thats just not fair.....boo hoo...

fuck um.........its sometimes hell to get a dose of your own medicine////

"and so in a semi related story.."

Or maybe a completely unrelated story meant to side-step the fact that the charge on this investigation is being lead by a Republican, not a Democrat.

726,

Are you advocating a return to a world order based on a medieval society or what?

Can we make any progress as long as we stoop to inhuman tactics as are enemies have done?

yeah and harriet myers also told them NOT to destroy the tape......so who do THESE people work for anyway??

"...so who do THESE people work for anyway??"

Maybe THAT'S just one good reason there should be an investigation and some hearings, doncha think?

so who do THESE people work for anyway??

The answer to your question is "You and ME".

I would like some answers. You are free to remain ignorant and uninterested.

and your bullshit comments disregarded, who do these people work for...of course they ALL work for us.....but who does the cia answer to......
who does the dept of justice answer to.......
are they seperate branches of government and are allowed to be on thier own or what???

its a good question that someone needs to answer and do it without more bullshit coomment from some prick named many
