Lawrence O'Donnell: On McLaughlin, I was asked to review a political speech. My approach to reviewing political speeches is to examine what deceptions are employed. Mitt Romney's speech, like every speech by every candidate for president, had its deceptions. No one else was willing to talk about those deceptions because that would involve talking about a candidate's religion, which we must never do, even if the candidate has just done it.

O'Donnell:

Whew!...I though this was gonna be comments from Rosie for a minute!

O'Donnell makes some very good points here.

Mitt Romney's attempts to address concerns regarding his religious beliefs were just more evidence that the guy does not in any way, shape or form deserve the GOP nomination to run for POTUS. He is a disingenous, double talker who never answers a question straight up and indeed refused to even address questions at the end of his spiel. The fact that the MSM practically fell over each other in order to declare that this fraud had hit a homerun when he really stuck out over and over again just goes to show wot a fraud the chattering classes themselves have become in our times.

The under-lying racism of the Mormon faith aside Mitt Romney like George Bush before him does not believe that Freedom from religion is a part of freedom of religion. The Wall between church and state has been shattered in parts due to Dumbya's ongoing attempts to bribe Evangelicals and other religious groups into supporting the GOP full time.

Mitt Romney will not repair those breaches, in fact, he may well attempt to pull the wall down even further until it's no longer a part of the American political landscape.

In a word? He is dangerous.

Dangerous to true freedom and democracy.

Dengerous to the rule of law and American ideals.

Too dangerous to be given the reigns of power.

Here's a pol who's actually oilier than his hair.

Avoid Mitt Romney at all costs.

Be Well.

PS: And on that grim and somber note the tater o' doom is exit blog-world's one and only Drudge Retort, as ya do,
stage left.

PPS: Shout out to Laurence O'Donnell fer having the balls to show up on Hugh Hewitts POS program and kick his ass.

PPPS: And a big Fuck you to HuffPo fer Banning Spud from their fabled shores. Spud was actually gonna congratulate them on running this piece and they done gone and banned the spuddish one. No biggie. Is their loss.

ethspud that is a foolish and irresponsible response to a poorly informed and ill willed article.

Mitt is a hero and will win the Repub GOP so if you don't like him hope the rest of democracy, which started as a political party in the 20's as Socialist reform but changed the name due to the poor lighting in the west, won't switch for Mitt because they hate Hillary.

The devil being Jesus' brother? If Jesus is of God and Lucifer is the son of the Morning...wait did the Bible say the devil is a "SON"??? of who? thats wierd.

Mitt is my hero!!! Mitt is my hero!!! Mitt is my hero!!! Mitt is my hero!!! Mitt is my hero!!!

....hope the rest of democracy, which started as a political party in the 20's as Socialist reform but changed the name due to the poor lighting in the west.

Great fiction, ever think about writing novels?

Fiction, eh? Don't think so. You've either been duped like your little friends or you believe such systems are charitable to its members. Either way, a willing fools, you are.

Exerpt :

The Socialists, however, are not satisfied with social reform, but are bent on the total destruction of our system of government and industry, holding the system itself, rather than the faults and shortcomings of men, to be by its very nature responsible for all the economic evils of the day. "Down with the Stars and Stripes" is their cry. "Abolish religion and the present form of marriage." "Atheism and free-love must reign supreme." Then, trusting that workingmen will admire anything, provided that it be adorned in sufficiently glowing colors, they paint such fabulous pictures of Socialism as the following:

Sound familiar?

("Woman Under Socialism," by Bebel, page 436 of the 1910 edition in English.)

"Hundreds of thousands of former representatives of the state will enter various professions, and by their intelligence and strength will help to increase the wealth and comfort of society. Neither political nor common crimes will be known in the future. Thieves will have disappeared because private property will have disappeared, and in the new society everybody will be able to satisfy his wants easily and conveniently by work. Nor will there be tramps and vagabonds, for they are the product of a society founded on private property, and with the abolition of this institution they will cease to exist. Murder? Why? No one can enrich himself at the expense of others, and even murder for hatred or revenge is directly or indirectly connected with the social system. Perjury, false testimony, fraud, theft of inheritance, fraudulent failures? There will be no private property against which these crimes could be committed. Arson? Who should find satisfaction in committing arson when society has removed all cause for hatred? Counterfeiting? Money will be but a mere chimera, it would be love's labor lost! Blasphemy? Nonsense! It will be left to good Almighty God himself to punish whoever has offended him, provided that the existence of God is still a matter of controversy."

"Mitt is a hero"

In what way?

"If Jesus is of God and Lucifer is the son of the Morning...wait did the Bible say the devil is a "SON"??? of who? thats wierd."

Exactly Ewendels - it doesn't say anything of the sort in the BIBLE. But in "Abraham" in the Book of Mormon there are passages that could certainly be interpreted as saying they were brothers.

I've been told that they mean that they were "brothers" in the sense that all God's children and brothers and sisters. I don't know the answer for certain.

It is astounding to someone who sees American politics from the outside, looking in.

When the American public does rouse itself up and show some interest (which dies by voting day), they seem to be preoccupied by .... religion.

Just how religious are you?

You aren't Jewish are you Mr (MS) Candidate?

Goodness sakes you aren't the M-word are you? You think we are going to elect you so that you can bomb the White House when you get in there?!!!

And it goes on.

Romney, Huck-a-whatever. The religious conservative rump in America has been working on this project for most their lives - certainly going back to Carter vs. Ford.

And yet they aren't satisfied yet. If someone could come along and out religious Romney and Huck and Obama, they would get the Christian mullah's backing.

And American's think their biggest enemy are the fanatical third world Islamic states?

Like .....hmmmmmm (not Saudi of course....not the Sudan where they give a wink to the blood letting.....not Libya because the master terrorist of them all is playing the game and saying the right words.....no Pakistan...they're not fanatics!!!! welllll they are but they say the right things again....)

Just which Islamic states are on the latest enemies list?

North Korea?

No. Not Islamic.

But nuts.

China?

Nope. Not even religious (they kill and imprison the Falun Gong).

But they're determined to overtake and pass America in influence.

Russia?

Welll...there's a little bit of religion seeping out there. The Chechens like to kill people but then the Commies were godless and killers too so religion doesn't seem to be the driving factor in Russia.

And, they're scary and looking to retake their spot on the top.

Yet America is seething with animosity over religion.

What religion are you Candidate? Do you wear magic underwear and marry multiple wives (well, that's just Rudy in drag and his multiple wives are just serial instead of parallel so ....)

And on it goes.

To the point?

Distraction.

America is willingly being distracted.

She won't sit back and say "I don't give a fig for what religion you are. Just so long as you don't let us continue to slide into what Britain let itself become."

Where's that?

Where's are the millions and millions of Americans that will say "fuck religion - do it on your own time - what about my god damn country?"

Well - the obscene words can get euphemisms. Kids may be listening.

Regards,
etc.

The Socialists, however, are not satisfied with social reform, but are bent on the total destruction of our system of government and industry, holding the system itself, rather than the faults and shortcomings of men, to be by its very nature responsible for all the economic evils of the day.

FUNNY FLAG!!!!

That is just too funny!!!!

Kris you are one damn funny SOB. I was in a pissy mood because the bank worries and frets and kept me on the phone while I was trying to do some simple transactions.

Thanks every so much. That there are people like you that believe things like that makes it all make sense. Here I am thinking why is it I seem to be the only sane person with insanity all around me, and you sgo and how me that it really is me! You really are insane and I'm not goofy.

Excellent.

Regards,
etc.

never thought I'd agree with Rosie:
Romney made his religion an issue, so now it's fair game. And the "game" in his case is based on a con man's religion, the 19th century version of L. Ron Hubbard.

Kris_P-Logic:

Please entertain us some more with 1920s socialism. You're good for a laugh.

I think the Republicans are getting just desserts with all these religious litmus tests, since they make a big deal out of godliness, but it's still a little creepy that the particulars of Mormonism are getting such scrutiny. Joe Lieberman's run for vice president and president. Did anyone raise hell about his religion's lack of one?

The MSM is making the litmus test for the Repubs and they --like Romney have to address it.

When you look at all the candidates--they are all religious in one way or another--one faith or another.

The evangelicals are wanting a candidate that is pro-life and against gay marriage.

All of the candidates in the Repubs fit that criterion--one way or another--different degrees.

And when Romney drops like a hot potato in Iowa--because Huckabee is suddenly noticed as being a real social conservative--Romney puts out a speech.

It was a pretty good speech for the most part.

But the MSM is making such a big deal about religion that there are no other issues being addressed. They had the most boring debate last time--of course you have a liberal asking the questions--and oh by the way--we won't be talking about illegal immigration--which is at the top three issues for the Repubs. (witch)

And then we have Obama and Opray doing the dance and praising God and Jesus and the MSM says NOTHING! They don't make the issue about religion and they are praising Jesus in harmony!

They don't even look into Obama's church and the pastor and his radical ideas. It might be worth the dabate--but the MSM is focused on keeping the Repubs down with religion and can't talk about the real issues for all Americans. It's a great strategy to have the MSM in with the Dems. (IMHO)

And--if I hear Rudy say one more time--"I'm imperfect"--I am going to send him a Barf email. He hasn't been able to talk at all about his issues and his vision--the whole interview with Meet Depress was about BS--he did fine answering all the questions and then got 4 minutes in the end to talk about his vision. 4 whole friggin minutes.

Romney is on Sunday--guess what Mr. Potato Head will be talking to Mitt about? Religion, flip flopping on abortion and gay marriage, religion, religion and oh yeah--the last 4 minutes for talking about the issues.

Murphy

The Repubs did this to themselves....Once again, that's why I voted for Bush in '04. Not that Kerry wasn't a horrible candidate anyway, but I figured Bush would twist American logic so far that anything the Repubs did would paint themselves into a corner.

That's why I'm not so distressed that the Dems in Congress haven't done anything.

And that's why I say the more litmus tests, the better.

The Dems are stepping aside and humming a little tune while the ants are frying in the sun under a magnifying glass.

(not that I would have ever performed, let alone condone such childish experiments :)

I always say, the best way to deal with incompetency is to let them.

Although I do not believe Mitt Romney's religion is biblical, I would still vote for him if his policies are sound. Yes, his 'church' would have some sort of influence on the way he would run the country. To deny this would be lying but I see it no different than a liberal who's religious stance is liberal. If I had a choose between Hillary and Mitt, I would vote for Mitt...

Whew!...I though this was gonna be comments from Rosie for a minute!
