A complaint has been filed to the European Commission accusing Microsoft of stifling competition by tying its browser to Windows. Opera Software said the bundling of Internet Explorer with Windows gave the software giant an unfair advantage and made competition much more difficult.

This is so stupid. Microsoft ought to pull out of Europe. Fuck em.

Wait a sec... Microsoft should pull out of Europe just because some relatively small company in Norway filed a complaint? You know, anyone can file any complaint they want to.

Mind you, Opera Mobile is the only piece of purchased software I've bought (device-included Windows Mobile and a rarely-used OEM partition of WinXP on a laptop aren't exactly purchased software) in the last 6 years, so I'm a bit sympathetic to Opera. But, they're probably stretching it on this case.

The European Union has a sympathy for cases like this. They lost a similar case before and didn't have the balls to pull out. Sensing blood, here we go again.

I use Foxfire. It's so easy to install, this shouldn't be an issue. What I question, is how much more of this should Microsoft put up with?

I use Opera Version 9.50 (beta)

I switched from Explorer in the 4.0 era and haven't looked back.

The market will decide, Vista is pretty much a commercial failure.

Reason? Busineses don't need it.

If you have the inclination to try something different and don't feel like laying down the money for a
Mac look at PC-BSD or Ubuntu Linux and install Open Office.

Ugh, Vista. What a complete waste of time and resources.

'What a complete waste of time and resources.'

I've administered it, crap moved around in Control Panel and everywhere else.

Nice work Bill.

"Hey guys, I have an idea? We're a small software company. Let's try to compete head on with Microsoft!! Yeah, that's our business strategy!"

-Another example of why Norway does not rule the world

...laying down the money for a Mac...

I installed OSX 10.5 on my MacBook a few weeks ago....It's fucking awesome...

After fifteen years in the IT field and 2 years using Vista from the Beta on up, I find the comments against Vista interesting. If you have administered Vista, you would, I think, appreciate the back-end security improvements that most consumers will admittedly not notice.

But also, the Vista Media Center kicks the shit out of Apple's Front Row. Apple is just as proprietary as MS, they just have a smaller user base.

Also, as a person who has also administered an Apple environment as well, Macs are by no means perfect or even better than any other OS. It comes down to the best tool for the job.

Actually, Vern, Opera's paying niche is in embedded and mobile platforms. They do have the best browser going in smartphones, PDAs, Nintendo Wiis, and the like.

Norway does not see the need to try and rule the world, but they are doing very, very well for themselves.

There are alternatives. I run ubuntu linux, with open office.org and never looked back. Firefox is my browser.

If the EU is so self-righteous why don't they sue the biggest price fixing cartel in the world...OPEC?

Oh that's right they, all these "justice departments" are hypocrites

They didn't need XP either, but I bet you walk into 10 businesses now, and nine of them are running windows xp on their work stations.

Ram and Storage are cheap. I run vista at home and I haven't had a problem other than my sound drivers acted funky. Turned out I needed to update them.

I've administered it, crap moved around in Control Panel and everywhere else.

Refer back to XP. It moved shit around in the control panel. People complained, but they got used to it. Hellooo!! It's a new operating system. Some things are going to change.

Macs are by no means perfect or even better than any other OS.

Don't forget about the flooded support desks a few weeks back at the releas of Cheetah. Crashing during install.

PC-BSD or Ubuntu Linux and install Open Office.

Funny that you complain about things changing in Windows Control Panel then you recommend people change to a whole other operating system.

Firefox is what I think you mean. That's the one I use too, and it's the greatest browser ever. And it's hard to complain about the cost: it's free, and you can download it on the site there, using Microsoft IE to do so. Doesn't download viruses, it's completely open source, and allows for tabbed browsing, which allows me to keep all the DR threads on separate pages :)

Vista is a pile of shit, there is no one I know who likes it.

Explore 7.0 is also crap, had to leave that because it would always conflict with other programs.

Vista is 100% fine if you have decent hardware to run it.

Don't listen to the FUD from open source zealots and Appletards.

I have used Mozilla Firefox, Netscape, AOL, OPERA, and IE 4-7, and let me tell ya, Microsoft by adding IE free to Windows 95, saved the consumers 40 dollars at the time. Opera is trying a similar lawsuit but I believe is grasping for air. Opera should be working on creating the same appearance for websites rather than having website owners plucking their hair trying to find the right script to work in all browsers.

I love Vista and my quad core would kick the shit out of your Mac with 2 monitors shut off. Seriously though, I've been with Vista since CTP and love it...

This is just another attempt by a failed telecom to get money for its poor product offering - maybe if they focused on an arena that could use some serious focus (SOA, SOBI, SODA) where standards are not completely hammered out they could be a player (at least in Norway). I checked the weather on my daughter's Wii once and it sucked. of course I only download demo games on the XBOX but MS has never claimed to use XBOX live as a portal to the outside world and I absolutely refuse to pay sony to play on-line although GT4 looks sweet. (Hey, it's not a game, it's a racing simulator!).

Vista is a pile of shit, there is no one I know who likes it.

So your limited exposure to the software coupled with the fact that your associates don't like it allows you to determine that it's "a pile of shit".

You realize that Mac's are Intel based now, right? There's only two things that hold me back from ever owning a Mac. First, I enjoy building and modifying my computer. Second is Mac only enjoys a small selection of games unless you run a virtual pc or you install windows on the a seperate partition.

Why would I want to run windows if I owned a Mac?
