Sure, 2Fast... we're sick. We're sick and tired of not feeling secure sending our kids to the local mini-mart with a buck to get a fist full of candy and knowing they'll make it home alive. We need help adjusting to a world where we panic if we can't reach them on their cell phones. And so, we laugh. We make disturbed jokes. Does it mean we don't feel for the kids or their parents? Hell no! It means that so much crap has gone on in this world we've developed a defense mechanism. It keeps us from losing our freakin minds when one of our kids is fifteen minutes late getting home from a social event. Go ahead, say we need help. If you ask me, even though you didn't, I'd say our kids are the ones who need help.

If the intent of going to a school or church with the goal of shooting innocent people is "law abiding" then you're a moron... They were breaking the law before they pulled the trigger! At least at the schools. If you don't believe me, grab yourself an AK-47 and drive on down to your local church or school and walk on up. Oh yeah, and have a friend film it all so we can watch it on the news.

During rioting in Los Angeles, the Police Chief ordered his forces to withdraw from the fray (for fear of repercussions of the police being too forceful and not understanding the rioters), so civilians were left to fend for themselves against armed criminals and brutes. One truck driver received a disabling blow as his head was bashed in with a large rock when his car was stopped he drove through the area. This was observed by the police from a helicopter. Now that was helpful.

Access to "self-help" is always a resort, and for such self-help to be effective against groups, being armed is necessary. Unfortunately, our society has reached a point where these predators are emboldened, and where the police are not in position to be effective.

Another source of danger is from individual miscreants as those who entered a doctor's house, raped and killed his wife and daughter, etc. You certainly should be prepared to defend yourself and your family. The fact that the doctor was a pacifist and eschewed violence certainly did not seem to influence the rapist-killers. It certainly did not deter them. Pacifist attitudes generally encourage people who are violent rather than succeeding in influencing them by example.

You are your primary protector. A call for help from the authorities is by definition too late, since the predators are in position to do you harm before the police can arrive, that is if they are going to come to your aid since political considerations may cause them to elect to let you fend for yourself. Then pull out your magic wand and cast a spell. That'll help a liberal deal with danger.

I prefer a device that delivers life-threatening pieces of metal to interdict the systems that keep assailants alive. The two ,who are now "Horn Trophies," will certainly not threaten anyone's peace again. It's too bad that Mr. Horn isn't allowed to have them mounted.
