Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's 15-year-old comments that AIDS patients should have been isolated have so alarmed the mother of Ryan White, an Indiana teenager whose life-ending battle with AIDS in the 1980s engrossed the nation, that she has asked for a meeting. "We have to treat this disease like a disease, and like Ryan always said, not like a dirty word," said Joanne White-Ginder.

Ooooo You Go Girl. Slam His ass to the ground and trample upon it.

Larry Mohr

Chuck the Huck

Oh yes. She's "asked for a meeting".

We have another Cindy Sheehan on our hands.

"We have to treat this disease like a disease"

Then we quote huckabee
"It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents,"

But don't tell her she is agreeing with him.

I'm not defending him just pointing out her contradiction.

Cancer is a disease. Should we isolate cancer patients too?

Diabetes is a disease.

Heart disease.

Emphysema.

Asthma.

Treating a disease is not the same as treating it like the plague.

Hate to burst your little bubble Sal.

Any of those communicable 762?

it would have worked better if you had said hep c.
Now that would sure have shown me and mr huckabee.

Ha Ha That rhymed.

Oh yes. She's "asked for a meeting".
We have another Cindy Sheehan on our hands.

~RiR

Woo Hoo! Time fer Reichiswrong and his ilk to put on their brownshirts and jackboots and go kick another grieving mother to the gound!

Fun fer you, is it?

Chuck Fuckabee!
Chuck Fuck Norris too!

You go, Joanne!

Be Well.

Well, those diseases aren't treated as civil rights issues, though.

LOL. All right!!!

It was getting late in the day, and I was concerned that the hateful Dethspud forgot to remind me that I'm a Nazi. Jackboots!! Brownshirts!! Grieving mothers!!

Spud be hysterical, hateful, historically ignorant tater.

LMAO. Cindy Sheehan is too busy chasing after microphones and camera trucks to be doin' a whole lotta grievin'. Now just what does Mrs. White-Ginder hope to gain from a "meeting"? To change what his mind was, 15 years ago? Or to shove her snout back into the limelight?

I don't care, really. Not a fan of Huckabee. So I'll just sit back, amused.

Any of those communicable 762?

You missed the point of my post.

I don't care, really

That much is painfully obvious to even the casual observer.

Yer "I got mine and fuck you" attitude is obvious from across the street.

I'll just sit back, amused

See!

"There you go again"

~Rotten Ronnie Ray-gun.

Be Well.

Well, those diseases aren't treated as civil rights issues, though.

When was the last time someone was discriminated against for having cancer?

Actually the sad shit reality is that employers do in fact discriminate against employees with cancer and caregivers who are caring for a family member with this disease. Just another wonderful side benefit of corporate america.

Yay corporatism.

"You missed the point of my post."

no but you missed mine.
She is obviously oblivious(fun to say) to the blatant contradiction of her own argument.
I just find that funny.

Huckabee is wrong. We have treated other diseases in similar manners but not the majority of them. I would be curious though if you named the symptoms of aid and its ability to spread without naming the disease would the attitude be different?

Short of a murder conviction a pol can explain away anything... that's the one thing they do very well.

"Actually the sad shit reality is that employers do in fact discriminate against employees with cancer and caregivers who are caring for a family member with this disease. Just another wonderful side benefit of corporate america."

Is it discrimination if they let me go after i break my leg at home?
Or loose an arm in a car accident?
Should my employed then pay me and those who need to care for me the rest of my life?
No they are responsible if I'm hurt on the job and thats it.

It's a sad fact of life, yes but to call it discrimination is just plain ignorant.
The mentality that the "big bad corporations" should take care of our every little need is destroying the fiber that used to make this society strong. But your right nothing bad should ever happen to anyone but if it does pass it along somebody else who doesn't deserve it should get hurt too that will make it ok right?

No, i forgot everyone is entitled to the same quality of life regardless of their own contribution. Thats the meat of it, your sick you can't work you are not living up to your employment agreement the employer is under no obligation to nurse you to health.

"Short of a murder conviction a pol can explain away anything"

Conviction is the key word there.

ahem cough
COUGH
KENNEDY
Cough

Why is it that conservative values, which are supposed to stress a small non-interfering government, are now being defined by a stress of a government in favor of promoting big business, big military, and religious fanaticism? Why do people want a pro-war religious nut case to become president? How could so many people have forgotten what freedom is supposed to mean? Conservatives are supposed to support individual values, not focus it's support on ideologies that some people might find crazy, not focus on giving tax dollars to a select group of big businesses, and certainly should not be in support of expanding our nation into a global empire.

Mike Huckabee may seem charming in debate, but he's an idiot. We've already had one president who claims that he talks to god, and look what happened. Do we really want to be ruled by a minister? Are we really that dangerously close to becoming a "democratic" theocracy?

Boy, Axe is a sick perv, isn't he?

But why not quit your "joking" for a second about hoping another person contracts AIDS from his father, and lemme ask you: just what does Ryan's White's mom hope will come out of a "meeting", besides some publicity for herself?

You're a prick.

gees
axe did someone take away your vagisil?

Perhaps she honestly believes that Huck will make a terrible president and this is her attempt to persuade some people? Given the choice, her method sure beats some sick coolaid addict like you posting here 8 hours a day.

More power to her.

And I seriously and honestly hope you and everyone you know never gets Aids or any other life threatening illness. REALLY!!! Now a nice big hemorrhoid is another matter....

See, I truely am a perv.

AXE

I've known five people with AIDS. Four have already died from it. And I'm able to spot a so-called "activist" from a mile away; they're the people who have to be dragged away from the spotlight with their teeth marks still on it. And they're always looking for the next parade, the next press conference, the next opportunity to prance around and celebrate their own colossal sense of self importance.

And in the meantime, hundreds of thousands suffer in silence. But by all means, let's go through the motions of a silly meeting with one of the parents. That'll look good on the talk shows. And who knows? Maybe she'll be able to write another book.

RiR- no, you're right...Ryan Whites mother is a celebrity seeking bitch.

Prick.

I didn't say she's a bitch--that was you.

Maybe this woman is seeking publicity, and maybe she isn't. Maybe she just found out about Huckabee's comments now (like most of us) and wants to do whatever she can to keep a shitbag like him from getting elected. I don't have a problem with it. Even with the other retards running, I can't think of a worse candidate than Huckabee.

Just because this is a debate site...

What would have been the outcome had Huckabee's idea been enacted? Would it have helped thwart this disease from spreading so rapidly? Would society today be better and safer because of such action...

I realize the Liberal need to "Larry Summers" anyone who asks questions, but try not to freak out...

"What would have been the outcome had Huckabee's idea been enacted? Would it have helped thwart this disease from spreading so rapidly? Would society today be better and safer because of such action..."

Short of forced testing of everyone in the country, probably not. Most people who give HIV to their partner(s) don't know they are HIV+ and by the time AIDS sets in, the patient is pretty much in the bag without major medical intervention. At best, I think his idea would have slowed it, not stopped it.

"What would have been the outcome had Huckabee's idea been enacted?"

I don't know. You're supposed to vote for him and find out.

Don't mind bursting your bubble 726...since all of your examples are non-communicable diseases. If AIDS were a matter of heredity, your point would be valid.

We stop people aggresive TB from flying.
/ just sayin as all.

"And in the meantime, hundreds of thousands suffer in silence."

But they "live" because of the medicines provided for them, often by government because of the huge cost. Government responds because of the work of the evil activists. It has been said that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, the activist community is the necessary "squeak" without which thousands, perhaps millions, would be allowed to quietly sicken and die. Thank God for activists. It is the apathetic majority which allows the greedy and the evil to have so much influence in our country. Reality TV shows are as much responsible what ails America as are the politicians owned and operated by corporate lobbyists.

Good point Danni. I'll admit you're right.

From what we know now, it wouldn't have mattered one bit. Despite all the advertising to the contrary, AIDS in the United States has always been a disease suffered by male homosexuals and intravenous drug users. The remainder of the victims (hetero sex) account for about 1 in 46 of the total cases. And that stat hasn't changed in 20 years. So, ironically, Hucakabee's approach might've saved gay lives, by earlier identifying those carrying the virus. But we'll never know.

Huckabee? I would rather lick all the tiolets in Grand Central Station clean with my toungue than listen to that Fascists Asshole.

Can you believe he is one of the self-appointed representatives of Jesus. I'm no christian but there are some (Robert Schuller, Billy Graham, and others) that deserve immense respect and are competent to interpret the wonderful philosophy of Jesus (who is not a savior).

That'll be 2 cents please.

It is a disease but look at the different ways people get it. If it is from a transfusion or you were born with it, its terrible. If you got it from a dirty drug needle, unprotected sex, or a poke in the rear, too bad. You have to be responsible for your choices.

I would rather lick all the tiolets in Grand Central Station clean with my toungue

You have something else you can lick with?

I am sure Ryan White's mother will be very consoled by the fact that it is or is not his fault. Dead is Dead, no matter your moral beliefs. Look at what ignorance and moral grandstanding on this issue have already cost the world.

I tear up every time I think of Freddie Mercury (and wonder how Elton John has escaped it). He got it from the aforementioned butt poking, but does that give the world back his creativity and abilities. Some of the worlds greatest artists were moral misfits, but who among you does not like Ernest Hemingway or Van Gogh or Michealangelo or Shakespeare?

I read that Demos root for the Huck, warned not to get on his case as he's so beatable. Born-again foot-in-mouth disease (less contagious than AIDS) stamps the gentleman from Arkansas as an intellectual soulmate of Reagan and Dubya (not Nixon, who was merely evil).

I wish I could be sure that the same lockstep spiritual lunatics who gave us Dickie, Ronnie and Georgie wouldn't vote for that guy anyway, especially if he were running against a Democrat who actually stood to change something. Anything. herm

Unfortunately, I agree with RIR on this. There's not much to be gained from any kind of meeting with the Huckster, and she was probably put up to it by a Democratic activist of some sort.

That doesn't mean he shouldn't get schooled on his ignorance.

I'm still waiting for someone to mention how this ignorant asshole signed an opinion by some baptist organization saying that "Women should submit themselves in service to their husbands" or some shit. Soon this moron's gonna be exposed for what he is.

And that was in 1999, BTW.

Yes, the mythical "Democrat who actually stood to change something."

Please inform, what kind of change any of the Dems will bring. Social Security? Abortion laws? Illegal immigration? Education? In any of the big challenges of the age, what kind of new thinking do any of the Dems offer that we haven't heard, a thousand times before?

Call me a cynic, but I don't see a whole lotta change goin' on. Unless you mean, that the packaging is different. That I'll grant you.

OMG, these people are crazy...

www.bible.ca

She finally got her 15 minutes of fame . Maybe exaggerating her point a smidgen .

"Please inform, what kind of change any of the Dems will bring. Social Security?"

Well, for one, at least when the Dems talk about SS, they'll probably address the problems, unlike Boy George's yearlong dog-and-pony show which never proposed a single solution, only a privitazation plan which would have exacerbated the problems.

OMG, these people are crazy...

Very close to Southern Baptist doctrine.

BTW - Islam means "submission."

You can dress them up, but under the clothes, their fUNDIES are the same. Well, except for Mormons. Theirs are magic.

Any of the candidates proposed anything?

If so, I've missed it. Here's what I'll bet they say: they're going to appoint a blue-ribbon panel of experts from both parties to recommend solutions and . . . . recommend to . . . . zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Duh. As if every single facet of Social Security hasn't been studied in total detail. But feel free to believe the Dems will do more than talk about the so-called Third Rail.

Thanks for playing. No change on Social Security, then. How about on immigration, abortion, education, terrorism . . . any changes there? Anything new at all? Bueller?

"How about on immigration, abortion, education, terrorism . . . any changes there?"

RisR puts a lot of laundry in the same washer load here. Is he (?) for all those things or against them? Would he (?) merely toe the fundie line, paying lip service to - let's say - fetal rights while doing zip to reverse Roe v Wade and drive half the nation's genders back into the streets? herm

When Ryan White's mother gets to meet with Huckabee I think she might ask him WWJD?

I'm no bible expert but I seem to remember Jesus having to deal with some folks with....communicable diseases....I don't remember him shunning them or asking to have them isolated...I seem to remember he touched them, healed them.
Huckabee would have been afraid to hang out with Jesus I think.

The point, Herm--is that Obama, Dodd, Hillary, Gravel--no difference. For all I hear about how this candidate or that one is "the candidate for change", the only difference is what they look like. It's like when you used to go into the store, and there would be five different boxes of Wheaties, with a different celeb on the cover. Once you open the box, they're all exactly the same.

"But feel free to believe the Dems will do more than talk"

My point is they can't possibly be any worse than the Republicans, who had 6 years of control, and the best they could do was a cockamamie "plan" Bush was finally forced to admit wouldn't even address the problems.

So...sorry, bub, you Rs got your bite at the apple, and FUBARed it. And now it's six years later and six years worse. Forgive me if I'm not grateful.
