Former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby is dropping his appeal in the CIA leak case, his attorney said Monday. Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted of perjury and obstruction for lying about his conversations with reporters about outed CIA operative Valerie Plame.

Yeah he got paid off by Bushco not to make more negitive publicity before the elections.

Can't believe this bullshit happened in the first place. Sad day for democracy.

Well it just proves that the fix is in...This fuck will be Pardoned by Bush just before he leaves office. If there's anyone that thinks that the American justice is fair and honest an everyone is treated the same, GROW FUCKIN UP!!!!

Black America has known all along about our justice here in America, now finally the rest of the Country, at least the thinking part knows this to be so.

What a FUCKING DISGRACE, at least for now our Justice system is a laughing stock of the World's legal system. Our system which the World followed is now held in contempt, because of the the Bush Administration. Can the election of 2008 get here soon enough!!!

What a shock!

Seriously, after his sentence had been commuted there was really no reason for the appeal, its not like Scooter was ever going to go back in the public sector. I would frankly be surprised if Bush pardoned him, but he has done stupider things.

My guess is that Scooter will take on some lucrative consulting gig and do just fine inside the beltway.

Now that Scooter wont have to spend all his time and money on the appeal, he prolly will wanna join OJ in the hunt for Nicole's real killers.

All he has to do now is pay the $1/4 million fine.

Or he could quit politics, and play the part of Vince Foster on a made-for-tv movie.

That was paid for him by generous contributors a couple of days after his conviction.

I'm not sure I agree. If I were him, and I were innocent (a dubious proposition, in my opinion), then I would continue the appeal in order to clear my name. Of course, if I were actually guilty, then this makes perfect sense.

Well, we already know Presidents aren't real concerned about how their pardons go over with the public. Witness some of Clinton's doozies, and Bush I pardoning all the Iran-contra conspirators.

But I think a pardon for Libby is exactly what's going to happen. As the article stated, it would be a risk for Libby to continue the appeal since if successful it would only get him a new trial, thus negating the commutation. Then he risks a re-conviction and real jail time since Bush would be gone by then.

I think he's just biding his time until Jan. 09 right now.

Scooter drops his appeal?

No suprise to Spud.

The traitorous little POS never really had much appeal in the first place.

He got paid off.

He used his "get out of Jail Free card"

He should just STFU and thank his lucky stars that DC is as corrupt as it is.

Be Well.

As the article points out, having moved forward with the appeal would have possibly led to a retrial. Then he wouldn't have been able to get a commutation or pardon since a decision wouldn't likely come down for a couple of years.

"I'll fire anyone in the White House connected with disclosing the name of Valerie Plame" George W Bush

So, a commutation of sentence and likely pardon instead.

Failure as an agency head leads to a Medal of Freedom. Gotta just laugh at that.

Interestingly enough, Libby dropping his appeal officially closes the case. Bush and the WH have been using the "ongoing investigation" dodge forever to avoid questions on Plamegate. What excuse will they use now?

Sic-em Helen!

Valery Plame got fame and fortune out of this. She has enough money (book and moral-high-ground appearances) to not to work anymore.

Poor Libby. At least he's not in jail. A win-win.
