I think the argument from the enforcement standpoint is that not only do you deal very harshly with the suplliers of kiddie porn, but if you take away the demand for these photos by dealing harshly with those who would buy/trade/look at them, then the supply will dry up -- hence less children will be abused.

That is a valid question. There is a difference between clicking on a website thinking you are going to learn something about the subject of child molestation, and downloading images of children. If he did the former, let him make his defense. If he did the latter, I don't see how that is "research."

I mean, there must be thousands of cops and detectives at any given time trolling the internet in order to catch the purveyors and consumers of kiddie porn -- yet nobody is arresting the "undercovers" doing that for looking at these pictured.

I'm just saying that something doesn't add up -- usually when a legit writer is doing a book that involves a topic which skirts the law or is illegal, that writer is going to try an minimize his risk as much possible and make (or have his editor make) arrangements to get the proper access, or notify the proper authorities of his intentions.

If I am not OK with what Foley did with a 17 year old, then why would you think I would be OK with him doing it to an 11 year old? Just because I don't believe he is a pedophiile or was a criminal based on DC law at the time, doesn't mean I don't find what he did disgusting.

My own personal belief is that the age of consent should be 15 when involved sexually with someone up to 5 years older. And 18 when involved sexually with a person more then 5 years older. For example, a 17 year old can be legally involved with an adult up to 22 years of age -- after they turn 18, they can legally be involved with any adult.

It's not perfect, but it would protect those sexually active teens and young adults between 15 and 22 from being prosecuted for Statutory rape, while acknowledging that older adults have no business getting sexually involved with teenagers below 18.

I've listened to Bernie Ward on KGO a lot over the years, and I must say, this doesn't surprise me very much. There's always been something about that guy which seemed kinda creepy and well...not right. I'm not just saying that 'cause he's a liberal, as there are other liberals (such as Ray Taliaferro) on KGO who actually annoy me more, but who I wouldn't be saying this about. Bernie Ward has always given me the creeps.
