I've been wondering this too lately, especially on that other thread where half the responders were calling for the carpet bombing of Sudan and denouncing the muslim religion as not one of peace.

And yet the same ilk will go to the mat to defend the mission in Iraq to save the muslims there. That seems a strange disconnect for me. They want people to embrace an idea that they do not believe they are capable of embracing.

Let's hope. You don't know how close this government came to total domination of the entire process. If the Hammer Tom Delay hadn't gotten into such trouble it's possible that the Congress would still be in GOP habds and that any "disloyal" GOP would be replaced by a "loyal" GOP. Checks and balances would have become a joke -- And W would have gone on in his bubble thinking that the entire process wasn't overly politicized. It will be a generation before (or if) the SCOTUS will back away from backing the imperial powers of the VPOTUS and POTUS over the legislature.
