Howard Kurtz: CNN expressed regret yesterday for allowing a Hillary Clinton adviser to ask a question at Wednesday's Republican presidential debate, even as controversy swirled about two other questioners who have declared their support for Democratic candidates.

you could make a ham and swiss sannie with all the holes in their "screening" process!

honestly, it took others only seconds to find out what cnn "ignored".

shame on the "clinton news network"!

If the General commits suicide, you'll know Hillary is pissed.

CNN apologizes for allowing any real questions to get through the screening process. The general that everyone got so excited about asked a perfectly fair question while some of the other "real Republicans" asked some of the most stupid questions I have ever heard.

"Do you believe this book????"

Did Grover Norquist "sneak" past their screeners???? Was he a Hillary plant????

Yeah Danni. Nothing as brillant as "say something nice about the person on your left". Those questions during the Domcratic YouTube debate where so much more intelligent....

Once again the righties emphasize controversy on the questioner and ignore the substance of the question.

I am all for good questions regardless of the source. I think the greater issue here is not the source but really the types of questions. I feel that a lot of the questions were from a point of view that puts the conservatives in a negative light. Where when the dems were on there was not the same slant to the questions. For instance, was there a question asking the dems whether they would take the no tax pledge? Or how about a question for the dems on partial birth abortions? These are things that put the dems in a negative light in relation to the conservative voters, yet they were not asked.

As far as some conspiracy, I do not believe that is the case. I do not underestimate the decietfulness of the Clintons but I think even they have their limiits.

I really believe that the people at CNN and other news outlets are prejudiced in their beliefs but do not realize it. They are so used to seeing the world through their beliefs that they do not see that they are prejudiced.

I agree that this is bad practice on the part of CNN, but I wouldn't go so far as some and say that it is due to a liberal bias on CNN's part. It was, afterall, one of the only difficult questions asked through the whole debate. Overall the questions were pretty damn soft. If CNN had a real liberal bias I'm pretty sure they could have found some tougher YouTube questions than they used. Asking Republicans 20 questions on gun control, a few questions on whether they believe in religion, and a question asking which ones want to lower taxes makes for a pretty lame debate.

I doubt CNN did this "plant" on purpose, but if they did, as some have suggested, I think it's more likely they did it to give themselves another story to report on rather than as a liberal bias.

Both Dems and Reps need to be asked far tougher questions. Though some soft questions are important to ask, I think it would be interesting to have a couple of debates in which democratic campaigners ask questions to Republicans and Republican campaigners ask questions to Democrats. Maybe that would help to liven up these debates.

It's not the fact Keith was a Democrat in a Republican Debate. I believe ANY Party affiliation should be allowed to ask another party questions on whatever they deam worthy. What I got a problem with is someone working for another party's candidate asking questions without first disclosing that. Seems dishonest not to.

Larry Mohr

Why not let the candidates write the questions for each other? Seems to me that the debates should be a tool for determining which of the candidates we want to vote for in the primary so shouldn't the candidates themselves know what issues differentiate them from the others?

"Where when the dems were on there was not the same slant to the questions....These are things that put the dems in a negative light in relation to the conservative voters, yet they were not asked."

Really...how about these that were asked in the Dem debate?

"My name is Marcus Benson from Minneapolis. And I'd like to know, if the Democrats come into office, are my taxes going to rise like usually they do when a Democrats gets into office?"

or

"Good evening, America. My name is Jered Townsend from Clio, Michigan.

To all the candidates, tell me your position on gun control, as myself and other Americans really want to know if our babies are safe.

This is my baby, purchased under the 1994 gun ban. Please tell me your views."

The real question is...WHAT would have been the reaction of CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC and the democrat's, especially Hillary's campaign, HAD this been done by Fox News during a Democratic Debate? The fallout would have been incredible.

dcinma: Based on your 2 examples, what candidates committee's did these people belong to? I'm assuming that's your point (apples to apples).

everyone of the top tier candidates are souless corporate whore shills.
Except Ron Paul!
He is the only honest man in the race!
That's why they are so afraid of him, and try and label him as a nut and an isolationist. Guess what? It's not working!

All these foolish questions about taxes....I don't think the Dems are concealing the fact that the government has bills to pay and we are going to have to deal with it. They simply won't be able to continue the irresponsibility that Bush and the Republicans have shown. Buying votes is nice but when you do it with a credit card it is our kids that get to pay for them.

"dcinma: Based on your 2 examples, what candidates committee's did these people belong to? I'm assuming that's your point (apples to apples)."

No, my point was to counter the comment made by sawdust... "I feel that a lot of the questions were from a point of view that puts the conservatives in a negative light. Where when the dems were on there was not the same slant to the questions. "

I think candidates should deal with tough questions. I don't know if any of the obvious republicans were plants or not but the fact is that the Dems got some clearly slanted questions themselves.

Most of the republican questions were softballs.

The general that everyone got so excited about asked a perfectly fair question while some of the other "real Republicans" asked some of the most stupid questions I have ever heard.

Which president started the don't ask and don't tell pollicy? I thought it was BJ Willie.

He said the network's goal was to avoid "obvious Democratic 'gotcha' questions."

1)why gays should not be allowed to serve openly in the military,
2) asked what the punishment should be for women who have abortions and the doctors who perform them, if the procedure were made illegal.
3) asked the candidates whether they would accept the support of the Log Cabin Republicans, a gay organization.

huh?

Yes Sniper, Bill Clinton signed into law a bill that allows Gays to serve in the military.

Prior to him doing so, they were BANNED from serving their country in such a manner.

Shit, your problem with that is what again?

"Which president started the don't ask and don't tell pollicy? I thought it was BJ Willie."

Your point?

I thought it was BJ Willie.

DEFLECTION

Who the fuck cares who implemented "don't ask don't tell"!? Why do you hacks keep trying to defuse the importance of the issue?

I can't wait until Hillary is asked, do you belive the bible and what would Jesus do?

Like that'll ever happen.

Ms Hillary may be in a panic. Her anointment is being delayed. The oil being placed on her head may instead be for extreme unction. Ms Hillary is even enlisting the endorsements of Mr. Bills "special friends" in her effort to avoid having her campaign derailed.

Here Mr. Obama has secured the endorsement of Ms Winfrey, who is a member of the same racist black separatist church as he is. To offset that celebrity endorsement, Ms Hillary accepted endorsement from Ms Streisand. Here is an excerpt from an article in the Washington Times.

You can measure the size of the butterflies in Hillary's tummy by the enthusiasm, forced though it may have been, with which she greeted the endorsement of Barbra Streisand, a not particularly welcome guest at the Clinton White House after Hillary sniffed unfamiliar perfume in a familiar bed.
Ms Hillary is in the horns of a dilemma. Mr. Obama's selection of Rev. Al Sharpton as his pal would probably not play well in the midwest, and also the nature of his church affiliation and statments by his racist Pastor, might just turn away some support. But dare Ms Hillary publicize this? She might alienate her black support.

Ms Hillary may be playing a losing game as in self-assembly, the black voters will coalesce at the extreme. Ms Hillary might find that the bulwark of her black support is reduced by black resentment against being used, and a sense of identity and affiliation with Mr. Obama. This will be fanned of course, by Rev. Al Sharpton in Harlem. There are wheels within wheels within wheels. What is the promised payoff to Rev. Sharpton? This is a high stakes game.

The hippie wagons and VWs used to have signs reading, "Ass, cash, or hash. Nobody rides for free. What has induced Rev. Sharpton to board the Obama train? Or has he?

Why do you hacks keep trying to defuse the importance of the issue?

Because this thread is titled....CNN Admits Holes in Screening of Questioners

Please try to keep up.

Actually Bj wanted to just lift the ban entirely but settled for DADT policy.

Danni,
The only candidate talking about ending the war and cutting over seas spending in order to revive the US economy is Ron Paul.
The Democrats are "stay the course" on the war.

Well said, Larry. [I can't believe I just typed that. :^) ]

I think that they should ask the candidates the toughest questions, and I would like to see a debate where disclosed staffers from the other side ask really tough questions of the candidates. It would never happen, but would be extremely instructive to watch.

I also agree with Betz that the outcry, had this been a Dem debate on Fox News and the questioner had advised Mitt or Rudi, especially here, would have been deafening.

I can't wait until Hillary is asked, do you belive the bible and what would Jesus do?

Like the dudes at CNN couldn't figure out this was an "obvious Democratic 'gotcha' questions."

The Dems will not make a difference. They say they recognize that we need to tax to pay off our debt, but they also want to spend all of our tax money on expensive government programs, which won't solve the problem at all.

Though Paul wants to cut taxes, if we reduce the budget enough and help the people out through tax deductions instead of spending money on them we'd have a much easier time achieving a surplus.

I've only seen some of the excerpts from this so-called "debate", and am amazed that CNN, let alone the Republican candidates, wanted anything to do with it. Horrible format, allowing weirdos to ask questions, and not screening properly. It's just strange that a leading news agency would have even wanted to be associated.

CNN has one of the worst reputations in media for inviting guests onto their programs, then subjecting them to over an hour of introductory interviews before being allowed on the air for 90 seconds or so. And I'm to believe that a retired general flew halfway across the country to appear, and nobody at CNN bothered to find out who the guy was? I mean, a routine search of the internet could have told any reporter who he was, but nobody bothered to do even that. Which means that somebody could have merely pretended to be a military general, and CNN would have given him a spot during the debate. And the woman who self-identified as an "undecided pro-choice voter" is actually an Edwards donor, as hundreds of bloggers discovered before she was even done answering her question, but CNN couldn't be bothered to find out for themselves?

Ridiculous. Well, it's safe to say the CNN won't be handling any more debates. It's impossible to imagine them screwing it up worse than they did. Personally, I don't care if the general was promised a spot on Clinton's cabinet, nor that he was allowed to ask a question. But at least put in some kind of disclaimer. Godalmighty.

The topic IS the questioners themselves. As we now know there were many planted questioners...NOT just the Gen'l. It did nothing to dispell the already held opinion that the mainstream media and CNN in particular are in Hillary's corner. If you think Hillary didn't have full knowledge of the gen'l and what he was going to ask...let's face it CNN flew the man to the debate...I'm assuming you believe Hillary didn't know about Monica Lewinsky. Enjoy your coolaid!

"and also the nature of his church affiliation and statments by his racist Pastor,"

Still trying to pedal that lie, Johnson? Is that why you ran away as fast as you could when I challenged you on that on another thread? Here, let me post this link for you again so you can read the truth for yourself.

Here's a small excerpt...

"Wright's critics completely ignore America's history of racism as well as the impact of the civil rights movement and the struggles of the black church to communicate the gospel's relevance in the black community. Perhaps, as one blogger suggests, the attacks on Wright and Trinity are not even 'meant to stand up to scrutiny.' They are merely designed to tie Obama to images of 'the black bogeyman.' As with the Swiftboating of John Kerry, it does not matter that the claims are false as long as they are out there."

Johnson, you are little more than another fear monger cloaked in extremely excessive verbiage.

"The only candidate talking about ending the war and cutting over seas spending in order to revive the US economy is Ron Paul."

I don't believe that is correct, what about Dennis Kucinich???

"Do you really think the Dems will make a difference?"

Yes, Bill Clinton made a big difference.
We need to returnt to: "Pay as you go."

"As with the Swiftboating of John Kerry, it does not matter that the claims are false as long as they are out there."

Has Kerry collected his million $ bet with T.Boone Pickins yet? Seems like it would be easy pickins for Kerry to disprove, so why hasn't he?

Dennis Kucinich isn't doing very well in the polls, where as RP is doing very well.
Also I don't believe in the socialist left anymore. They are special interest whores for globalization. Just like the neocons.
The only one that wants to get back to the constitution is RP. That means equal rights for all. A true free market without subsidized welfare for the corporations.
He also wants to do away with the Patriot act and Natioanl ID card.
There are so many reasons to vote for Ron Paul! I really think he has a shot at winning! People are rallying behind him like you wouldn't believe.
I have Danes and Norwiegians sending me emails and wanting to to send me money, so I can send in donations in my name becasuse they are not allowed to.
I think it is going to really heat up pretty soon.

Jeff'nD-

Yeah, it should, especially when the FEC subpoena's your bank account.

"Has Kerry collected his million $ bet with T.Boone Pickins yet? Seems like it would be easy pickins for Kerry to disprove, so why hasn't he?"

Actually, I heard that he was challenging T. Boone to pay up, though he wants it paid to charity.

What happened when Gannon blower had a Republican congress? Oh yeah, the largest defecits on record.

Rein....So? I agree that the current administration and repubs in congress have spent like drunken sailors. That is why all their poll numbers are in the shitter.
I think most need to be thrown out on their ass!

"and the Republican congress that forced him to keep submitting budgets until he got it right."

Hmmm, not sure if that is completely accurate, but be that as it may, its too bad that great Republican Congress didn't hold their own boy to the same standard, would you agree Kerrin?

Funny how the righties always have to bring up Clinton. Truly pathetic. And the juvenile name calling of course.

BTW, that is what I think Republicans hated him the most for.

Now we are all Reagan Republicans. Bill Clinton may not have gone so far as to bust a union, as Reagan did with the air traffic controllers, but he affronted organized labor with his support for the North American Free Trade Agreement. How paradoxical that a Democratic leader would leave it to Patrick Buchanan to become the spokesman for a working class made expendable by the global economy.

On social issues, Clinton has endorsed not just welfare reform but such conservative proposals as school uniforms and curfews for teenagers. Half of the Democrats in Congress voted for welfare reform. Just how far the political consensus has moved to the right is symbolized by Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the most outspoken opponent of the welfare reform bill -- the same man who was branded a racist 30 years ago for his report on the collapsing black family.

For all the talk about the failure of Newt Gingrich and his legislative agenda, he managed to wrest concession after concession from Clinton. He forced the president over a period of months to submit four separate budgets to Congress, the last one consenting to the Republican demand for a balanced budget in seven years.

It was Bill Clinton who, during the big budget fight in 1995, had to submit not one, not two, but five budgets until he begrudgingly matched the GOP's balanced-budget plan. In fact, during the height of the budget wars in the summer of 1995, the Clinton administration admitted that "balancing the budget is not one of our top priorities."

Danni certainly was not talking about BJ's though. Throw some mud on the wall hope some sticks, that's all it is.

And exactly what does the name calling add to the discussion? Nothing just an attempt to demean someone. Guess I should just accept that some people operate at this level.

Cooper,
Please tell me why the FEC is going to subpoena my bank account.

LOL!

I am sold, is Bill running?

How delusional can one get thinking the corporate whore will be like her outcast husband.

"I am sold, is Bill running?"

Kind of.

"Reports flew on the Internet that at least nine of the 34 questions posed via YouTube videos -- on topics ranging from corn subsidies to Social Security reform -- came from voters who have ties to Democrats or a vested interest in asking the Republicans to go on record."

"On the personal Web page of David McMillan of Los Angeles, who asked the candidates why many black voters choose Democrats over Republicans, are many political videos, including one with a Politico.com video blogger asking which presidential candidate was most "gangsta." In the video, he called Sen. John McCain of Arizona "Insane McCain." There are also photos of him attending a fundraiser for Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and laudatory videos of former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, both Democrats."

"Questioner LeeAnn Anderson asked the candidates about lead paint in toys while holding her children. It was widely noted yesterday that Mrs. Anderson is an assistant to Leo Gerard, president of the United Steelworkers of America. The union has endorsed former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina. Another questioner who asked about abortion reacted on her YouTube page while wearing an Edwards T-shirt."

"Ted Faturos of Manhattan Beach, Calif., asked the candidates about their support for farm subsidies, taking a bite from an ear of corn to punctuate his point. Bloggers pretty quickly determined he once worked for Rep. Jane Harman, California Democrat"

"avid Cercone asked why "Log Cabin Republicans [should] support" the candidates, leaving the impression that he is a member of the group. But bloggers uncovered an online profile in which he endorses Mr. Obama and praises him as "a leader who inspires me with his sincerity."

"Adam Florzak, who asked about Social Security, has an entire Web site devoted to the subject (www.pactamerica.com) and a 2005 article describes him as "hell-bent on reforming Social Security and the pension system" and working with someone from Democratic Whip Sen. Richard J. Durbin's staff.

At his site, Mr. Florzak describes his efforts to get a personal meeting to put his Social Security plan into the hands of Mr. Obama and has posted a video of himself asking the Illinois Democrat about the issue during a town-hall meeting."

The debate was touted as questions from Undecided Republican voters.

Hardly--

She plants them in her own meetings and now the primary debates. And CNN goes along with it. What a bunch of hosers.

And Repubs don't care about don't ask don't tell--this is an issue the Dems want to talk about.

I don't plan on voting for the communist party, err I mean Hillary's party any time in my life, but I thought the question was a fair one. Cooper did an aweful job moderating, but for the most part the questions were relevant. If this group of clowns can't answer a question from a lefty plan, how are they going to do as president.

Do we really want to watch a pissing contest over who has the biggest anti-terrorist hard-on?

Why is that an obvious Democratic gotcha... I'm a conservative and I think the the Bible should taught along with Greek and Roman mythology. Honestly I don't want some dispsh*t running the most powerful country in the world if he believe that god made the entire universe in 6 days or that he talks to us in burning bushes.

On a side note there are some good guidelines in there defining the rules for enslaving conquered lands or stoning your wife when you get tired of her.

Thank you god for that inspiring wisdom
