Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs
Wednesday, November 28, 2007

The acrimony from the Republican campaign trail carried over quickly into the CNN/YouTube GOP presidential debate Wednesday. Unlike previous debates in which the candidates focused most of their attacks on Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton, Wednesday night's attacks were launched at each other.

He may need to field a question from an Abe Lincoln portrait asking about the mental health of any leader leaving troops in Iraq.

**** GOP Candidates Face Youtube Tonight ****

.......silly me.....I thought the article was GOP Candidates Face Your Tube Tonight.....

.....with all the closeted GOPPERS I thought some of the candidates would give out blow jobs for delegates..........

.......but remember.......They Are Not Gay........

.....just a wide stance......that's all..........

I would have more respect for any one of them (or all of them) if they said that they were running for the President of the United States, this was not befitting the office and so they would not attend. But alas, they have already sold their souls to the special interests, so why would this bother them.

I hope someone asks them each to speak directly at George W. Bush and DEMAND that he start enforcing the immigration laws immediately.

That's right, Sawdust. Debates should be carefully controlled events where questions are asked only by carefully screened moderators who will be sure not to put anybody on the spot or embarass them. Letting regular citizens, especially young ones, ask questions is a loony idea unbefitting of the office.

Danni gets the newsworthy flag

Monte, I was not at all saying that the questions asked would be better or worse. I believe the Blitzer did an awful job with the last debate. My problem is with the format. Ask the questions, make them give you a real answer. I am looking forward to when there are just two people at the debate and there is time to make them answer the question.

I hear you, Sawdust. Believe it or not, I'm still pissed at Lehrer for letting Bush off the hook in 2000. He asked Gore if he supported the military actions Clinton took during his 8 years in office, and Gore went through every one of them and analyzed the pros and cons and said what, if anything he would do differently. Lehrer then turned to Bush, who looked like a deer caught in the headlights. He started to stammer something unintelligible, and then Lehrer came to his rescue and basically told him that he didn't need to answer the question. I was like, what the fuck is that?

The next day, I had to read in all the papers how Bush pretty much won the debate. I was thinking, did they even watch the same debate I did? The fix was in... if Bush didn't actually, physically shit himself then he "wins the debate." What a crock of fucking shit.

...if they said that they were running for the President of the United States, this was not befitting the office

Clue to Sawdust from Spud:

The President of the United States works for the people of the United States.

By that light Spud sees the Youtube debates as having more credibility/ validity than the more traditional format where members of the co-opted and toothless MSM ask pre-scripted question to pols who largely don't even answer them because they are allowed to insert sound bytes from their stump speeches in lieu of real answers.

These are real questions from real Americans who have a real right to ask and be answered.

Wot you should be asking yerself here is stuff like...

At the last Youtube debate the number one question that folk submitted to ask the pols was the one that the so called professional media wasn't. To whit, "Why aren't you impeaching these guys?" Some kind of arrangement between the pols and the Dems kept that hardball from being pitched. Spud wonders wot question the GOPhers are trying to avoid tonight.

Where are the missing billions in Iraq?
Why isn't waterboarding considered torture?
Wot's to be done about the unsustainable twin deficits?
How can a party of self loathing closeted gay folk hate gay folk so much?
Why are nukes "on the table" vis a vis Iran?
Why are Vulture Funds allowed?
Why is't the sub-prime housing collapse a bigger scandal?
Where are the missing e-mails and blanked servers on the DOJ scandal?

Spud understands why impeachment is off the table according to the MSM and Cheney's machinations but Spud would still like to see the question asked of the GOPhers just to watch them squirm.

Won't happen.

Just saying.

Leaving the asking of important questions up to the "chattering classes" of professional pundits and the co-opted and toothless MSM is just plain dumb and has, in large measure, lead us to where we are now.

The idea that hollywood actors shouldn't express their political opinions, exchange some of their fame currency for face time for the issues they feel strongly about is wrong.

The notion that average citizens even those with an incomplete grasp on the entirety of the political process shouldn't be allowed to ask questions of those who would their elected representatives because it isn't "befitting" is pure madness.

Even in the, admittedly, less formal style of a youtube debate.

Spud'll be watching.

Spud is always watching.

Be Well.

PS: Let there be no doubt about it, hit the rooftops, scream and shout it, the Tater o' Doom has once again entered blog-world's very own Drudge Retort, as ya do,
stage left

That shoulda been "some kind of arrangement between the debate organisers and the Dems"

Obviously.

Ooh, one more question from potato gallery...

Will the US be forced to abandon it's commitment to a democratic Taiwan and allow Communist China to take it over due to the US's increasing debt to that country incurred during this bloody debacle in Iraq and Nixon's cowardly "one China" policy?

Quick follow up...

Doesn't that make the US look weak?

Ta.

Be Well.

PS: Apropos of nothing Spud learned yesterday that Howard Hughes gave Nixon a million dollars as a bribe to get the Gov to stop under nuke testing in Nevada while Hughes was living in Vegas.

Funny ole world, eh?

Be Well.

I hope someone asks them each to speak directly at George W. Bush and DEMAND that he start enforcing the immigration laws immediately.

I would sooner expect them to call for a 100% tax increase on the top 6% of America than do this.

"Let there be no doubt about it, hit the rooftops, scream and shout it, the Tater o' Doom has once again entered blog-world's very own Drudge Retort, as ya do,

LOL....the pompous ass who calls himself the "Tater o' Doom" is once again overstating his self-importance showing us how taken he is with himself. 'Pears to me he ain't nuthin' but a bog apple from a truck farm. Where, oh where, is Pinche Mao to see this fool carry on like this....LOL

I am sure that Ron Paul will have no trouble, he always answers questions without spinning or beating around the bush.

My bet is that none of the YouTube questioners will ask a question nearly as stupid as Tim Russert's for Dennis Kucinich about seeing the UFO.
None will be as dumb as CNN's (pretended it was thought up by audience member) of whether Hillary prefers diamonds or pearls.
I would like to see Ron Paul questioned a little about some of the lesser known ideas he has which 90% of the American people would reject absolutely.

"LOL....the pompous ass who calls himself the "Tater o' Doom" is once again overstating his self-importance (blah blah blah)

LOL.... the dickwad who calls himself "jestgettinalong" once again shows that he's nothing more than a prick who can't get along with anyone.

"None will be as dumb as CNN's (pretended it was thought up by audience member) of whether Hillary prefers diamonds or pearls."

Maybe someone should ask Rudy whether he wears boxers of briefs, or maybe panties, after all, he did wear a dress once.

"I would like to see Ron Paul questioned a little about some of the lesser known ideas he has which 90% of the American people would reject absolutely."

That 90% of the American people would reject Ron Paul's idea's would say more about the American people than about Ron Paul, it would say that the American people care about the Constitution, but in name only.

I am beginning to come to the conclusion that people don't want to live in a free society under a constitutional republic. What they want is to use the government to redistribute wealth their way and to push people around they don't agree with or like, like gays for example which are the scapegoats du jour.

Oh I can't wait for these gem filled questions...

"My Question is for Ron Paul. Mr. Paul, would you fuck me?

JeffNDenmark"

Maybe someone should ask Rudy whether he wears boxers of briefs, or maybe panties, after all, he did wear a dress once.

I should have made a video asking Rudy how he expects to beat Hillary by being like Hillary. On many issues they are similar.

Ask away. None of the GOP candidates have been invited to Shirley McLaine's house so I doubt they ever saw one.

Rob,

Between yer "you're Gay" post and yer last "Mr. Paul, would you fuck me?" post Spud thinks that maybe yer homepage really is the Conservipedia page on Gay Bowel Syndrome.

Nawww, can't be.

Rob just had hisself a bouncing baby girl.

Serious Congrats on THAT btw (Although, it's not like ya did any of the really hard work there)

Pinchaloaf?

If he's got even half a brain in his head he's cowering under the bed-sheets waiting fer Spud to leave.

Why do you need to wait fer Maosy Tongue to insult Spud there Jestsweatin' alongwiththeoldies?

Are you yerself incapable of dealing in the slings and arrows of outrageous insults that is an inevitable and integral part of blog-world?

Is fun part too thinks Spud!

"You see me now a veteran of a thousand psychic wars"

Spud luffs the thrust and parry of blog-world in terms of debate and insightful commentary.

Deth absolutely lives fer the slag-fests that go on here.

Learn that.

Learn sommat, fer Christsakes!

The occasional on-topic postage would be appreciated as well.

Rudy looks better in a dress than Hillary, I think.

Hard to say.

Hillary don't own a dress.

She has a closet with 100 nearly identical pant-suits.

Kinda like Charlie Brown with the Zig Zag shirt or Jughead Jones with that silly
hat!

Be Well.

"Rudy looks better in a dress than Hillary, I think."

And how could you make that determination????
Sure you've seen Rudy in a dress but Hillary?????

By default. Like when one team shows up for a game and the other doesn't and forfeits the game.

ONce? Ha! Don't kid yourself.

"Are you yerself incapable of dealing in the slings and arrows of outrageous insults that is an inevitable and integral part of blog-world?"

Most certainly not...I like to share with Mao when he's here though. I think he too recognizes a fool who thinks he's Walt Whitman or perhaps ee cummings and gets a kick out of your mindless prose. How was it he compared you... to the Simpsons wasn't it? I've since spent time trying to decide if it was Homer or Bart.

Spud luffs WaltWhitman and ee cummings!

Ta fer that Jest!

Homer or Bart?

Actually it was "Disco Stu" and the "Comic Book Guy"

In point of fact, dethspud has a long history and the name is derived from Cerebus, Megadeth the word "despot" and a myriad other influences.

First coined in 1977.

Long afore Groening was doing the Simpson, possibly even before Life in Hell.

But don't let them facts stop ya, Jester.
Yer unfounded specualtion is endlessly fascinating to Spud/snark>

Be Well.

PS: Have you heard about Mark Foley's new website?

Conservipedophelia.com

Gone agin.

I'll check it out tonight.

I can save time and ask the same questions and get these following answers same as before --

1. Iraq? If we knew then what we know now we might not have gone into Iraq as we did but since we are there we will "stay the course" for the next 50 years.

2. Illegal immigration pouring into the country by the millions?

Well, yes, we all agree we must do something about illegal immigration and secure our borders so we all want a "comprehensive (open borders/billions of guestworkers) immigration reform plan.

3. No abortion

4. Support the Troops? Why we love our military (even though we are sending them into decades long wars of our own choosing)

5. Social security? Privatize it! Let these 86 year old ladies go out and get a damn job and take some Republican "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILTY" for a change. Who cares if they spent their lifetime taking care of their husband and raising the kids -- it's never too late for Republican "PERSONAL RESPONSIBLITY"

6. Millions of jobs being outsourced via free trade and globalism? Well, why would you insist on having a job when you cost your family and friends 10 cents more for each product they buy that's American-made. What selfish sob would insist on doing that? FREE TRADE GLOBALISM FOR ALL!

6. Do we think Bush is a good President? Bush? errr, who? oh, him. ahem, well, ahhhhh, got another question?

Here we go!!!!

Not expecting too much in this debate from the moderator -- CNN had Lefties ask the democrats questions in the last debate -- and now they are having Lefties ask the Republicans questions in this debate -- so much for fairness. To their credit, at least the GOP isn't scared of CNN the way the Democrats are of FOX.

Anyway, I expect Rudy to win this debate. This is his "boxing ring" and he's the best at it. I'm also looking for to Huckabee to beat up on Romney, while Fred goes after Rudy. McCain will be shoved to the side -- and Paul will be good for a few laughs and boos. "Duncan Tancredo" should go home already.

Romney gets first cheers

This is a wild one

Yowtch! Where'd that accusation that Romney hired illegal immigrants for his mansion come from?

Fred nailed Rudy with the comment about "bad hires"

Yowtch! Where'd that accusation that Romney hired illegal immigrants for his mansion come from?

I thnk that is common knowledge

Is McCain a hundred years old?

I don't like the running graph on audience reaction -- so I am just listening now.

It's a RIOT!!!

The NY Gui takes a left from Mitts!
Then a right in the Kurik from Fast Freddy!!

John McCain is rational and Presidential. The Ref.

Tancredo does the demagogue dodge.

RCADE: I think the "sanctuary" city charges levelled at both Romeny and Rudy are somewhat unfair since the federal Governemnt really sets the parameters on what citys can and can't do on illegal immigration.

I also think that criticism for Romney allowing illegal immigrants to work in his home is fair -- but so is criticism of Rudy for not doing a bacgground check on kerik.

I love it when we do these posts simultaneously with the debate. Much better -- and funnier! -- than having to listen to the CNN commentators.

Duncan has both fence contractor and a defence contractor Lears.

Hucky is SO sincere.
And has a reasonable attitude on immigration.

(That was a loss of a point in Florida.)

Mitt Romney is kicking ass Repub-wise.

Oops! Hucky lands an emotional left!!!

There are exactly zero candidates for whom I will vote. What's to debate?

Huch is explaining the "anchor baby" problem very well. He seems ratiional

Oh no a question for Ron Paul

Hey !

What's this?

Ron Paul jumps into the ring!

"He seems ratiional(sic)"

Posted by Bowa

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA

Huckabee sounds really good. I know I'm a Dem, so maybe that's bad for him, but in terms of relating his rhetoric to the audience he's doing well.

I swear I feel when Ron Paul talks he's talking personally to me -- looking into my heart, into my soul ---he's like the Messiah.

LOL

McCain needs some coffee

Mccain is a bore

Hot Sarah!!

Johnny MC knows how Wash works.

This started out his race to lose.

Rudy really had "the beef" on what he would to do to cut the budget

Fred is doing much better this debate.

He's more combative.

Fred, Romney, and Rudy sound better then any of the democrats on the issue of cutting governemnt

Washington didn't change Ron Paul -- but the alien abduction sure did.

Huckabee is moving into the top tier tonight.

I like that Mitt, Rudy, and even Fred are somewhat moderate to liberal policy wonks.

Hucky just decked the IRS!

The national sales tax is a tough issue -- sounds good on paper -- but you just know that the rich would be able to get around it and then it would become the most regressive tax onthe poor that could ever be conceived.

Bowa-
re: "Rudy really had "the beef" on what he would to do to cut the budget"

Would he also cut (hidden) public funding of his next extra-marital affair?

www.politico.com

As New York mayor, Rudy Giuliani billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons, according to previously undisclosed government records.

HAH! All you naysayers who scoffed and told me I was a conspiracy nut when I warned you Bush had an agenda for a North American Union (NAU). RON PAUL sure put you in your place tonight when he talked all about the "non-existent" NAU in the debate!

All the millions Ron Paul has raised but they don't even address him until 35 minutes into the debate! Elite Repubs want their golden boy -- "magic Morman panties" Romney -- to win.

NO NEW TAXES!!!!!

Yeah!!!!

Cooper I posted about that on another thread.

I don't have cable, keep the comments rolling.

Rudy knows what he is talking about

Here's the politico question.

Asked and answered.

Now let's see if it holds up to scrutiny in the coming days.

I'd love to see the IRS chopped down to size and the tax code simplified, but you couldn't fund this country on a sales tax. Huckabee's dreaming on that one.

I was glad that Rudy handled the politico question directly and said the story was not true.

Listen to Duncan Hunter and what he has to say -- it's worth hearing. Neither he nor Tancredo are the best at public speaking but the words that come out are worth hearing. He's one of the best guys up there and a real American --- not some slimy free-trade globalist "citizen of the world" crap.

They barely give Hunter any talking time. What else is new.

Strong response by Romney on his switch in position on abortion.

Bowa-
re: "Cooper I posted about that on another thread."

You elided the main point: "Rudy" hid the charges by billing them to obscure agencies. His staff, when approached on this issue, cited "security concerns" and refused to explain or provide any information. This is known as lying, and involving the taxpayers' money in covering up a secret affair.

"Rudy" is done. Give Mitt a new looksie.

My first impression is that the GOP cnadidates are just so much quicker, smarter, wittier and have more energy then the Democratic candidates,

The first round was a tough call but I think it goes to Romney in a squeaker over Huckabee. He nailed that that final question in his flip/flopping over abortion.

Fred and Rudy tied for 3rd.

McCain came in 4th

all the rest pulled up the rear.

Hillary looked more Presidential in a 10 second spot than any of these clowns have all night.

You adapt well, Bowa.

Bushtoady radio show host Hugh Hewitt is slobbering and drooling now over how great Romney is doing in the debate. Hewitt's fawning over the GOP "Golden Boy" is to the point of nausea -- and so obvious. Hewitt says exactly what the GOP elite (read: major corporate donors) want him to say.

Cooper, the whole politico issue is moot now -- Rudy said the charges in the stroy were not true -- and the politico now has to flesh out their accusations.

The Right to Arm Bears....

I've never really understood this whole thing about arming bears. What do bears want with guns anyway?

Hunting salmon?

Rudy blew the 2nd amendment question -- too wordy

Rudy recovered nicely in response

re: "Cooper, the whole politico issue is moot now -- Rudy said the charges in the stroy were not true...

I'm not sure what your definition of "moot" is, but "Rudy" denying that he billed obscure agencies to cover his booty-calls ain't it when the public record for those billings contradicts his statements (which I haven't seen quoted, so I'm relying on your statement that "Rudy" has denied the charges).

People in the South are now trying to figure out what "the Lar" is, when Rudy says it.

uh oh, Rudy just shot himself in the head saying he wouldn't mind "a little control" over gun ownership and regulations.

bang bang -- Rudy's chances of becoming President have become DOA with his pro-some gun control comment. The NRA will see to that.

I agree with Spudman--OMG! You tube is from the regular folks--the problem comes in as who is picking the questions.

I love Hunter--he's my Rep here in San Diego.

His son will run next and I'll vote for him.

Murphy

Good answer on abortion by Rudy

Between Rudy's Ties to a Terror Sheikh and this...

The documents, obtained by Politico under New York's Freedom of Information Law, show that the mayoral costs had nothing to do with the functions of the little-known city offices that defrayed his tabs, including agencies responsible for regulating loft apartments, aiding the disabled and providing lawyers for indigent defendants.

At the time, the mayor's office refused to explain the accounting to city auditors, citing "security."

Great call for Jesus..He wouldn't run for office.

Although he didn't answer the question directly--it's an answer.

Murphy

"It is a state's rights issue to put laws into place and not the Feds."

Almost the exact same argument in favor of slavery... and against integration.

Hans

No Hans--slavery was a Fed constitutional issue--not the state issue to decide.

And race is a Fed issue--not a state issue--big differences.

The court took a state issue and made it a Fed issue--that is why there is so much upheaval on the decision. It is up to the states--not the Feds.

Check with your local constitutional attorney....

Murphy

Huckabee won this round -- Romney and Rudy in 2nd -- Fred in 3rd. everyone else lagged behind

And Hugh Hewitt does fawn over Romney in excess.

Maybe he knows something we don't. Romney is a luke warm candidate for me.

Really? How long does it last?

"The court took an issue of abortion and made it the law of the land--the wrong law BTW."

"States rights" advocates called the abolition of slavery, and integration "the wrong law," BTW.

"Posterity trumps a women's right to choose to kill another human being--get it!"

Kill another human being? That's also known as murder.

There are laws against that... get it!

Hans

McCain goes for the "It was the American people's fault we lost Vietnam we never lost a battle" angle.

Larry--you are entitled to that opinion--but realize the woman is killing another human being without due process--except she doesnt feel like it..

The reasons are selfish and wrong--I have no problem with women who are raped and or suffer incest--give them the after morning pill--I don't care about birth control pills.

But to kill a baby who can live outside the womb is infanticide--plain and simple.

FF for Corky!

Murphy

Romney is just like Hillary -- he wants both sides of the issue.

Question to Romney: Do you still look forward to the day . . .

Romney: "I look forward to being told what to think"

Bowa-
I don't get your "blame America first" crap. We are a democracy, and we shouldn't reflexively support everything our representatives do.

I'm actually surprised that you would see gov't policy on the same level as supporting the home team no matter how screwed up the coach is, but I guess you don't use the same judgment you apply to your sports teams as yo do to our democracy.

As far as Ron Paul is concerned, I'm in disagreement with much of what he has to say, but he is honest, and principled, and you seem not to care for either of those traits. In fact, you don't even recognize them as beneficial.

But the guy did not tell anyone he was gay!! He got answers--he didn't like them...

I don't care if the soldier is gay--as long as they want to kill the enemy and good with a gun--so what.

Murphy

It exploded on Mitt!

Fragments fly everywhere!!

Republicans support the Clinton policy.

I don't get your "blame America first" crap.

Paul suggests that we brought the attacks on 9/11 upon ourselves -- that we somehow deserved to be attacked. he is a vile person in my book.

The Ballad of the GOP

If I was 20 years younger--I would vote for Ron Paul--no problem.

I voted for John Anderson and Perot a couple of times--not again though. Anderson is a wing nut now--way off the table. I saw him on c-span--OMG! What a wing nut.!!!

I will vote for the Repub and against the Dem candidates--whoever they are.

Murphy

Rudy is winning this round by not having to say anything -- all his opponents are blowing their answers.

Murphy-
Good luck with torture. You make us proud, and I'm sure Jefferson is toasting you as we almost communicate. Or at least Torquemada - your founding father, is proud.

See y'all around.

Yeah--let's spend trillions to go to Mars and phuck that place up with global warming--

Oh wait--it already has global warming going on and we are not even there!

Love sending Hillary there--she can tax the Martians.

Murphy

They just can't keep from showing their fear of Hillary. ;^D

Great question from LA CA

Why do black vote for Dems who haven't done a blessed thing for them in 40 years except keeping them down?

Murphy

I guess the debate is over since they cut away to the focus group before it ended --

Anyway, I think Huckabee won the debate. Rudy was a weak 2nd. Then Romney and McCain tied for 3rd.

They just can't keep from showing their fear of Hillary.

Sincerely, Iowa

"Why do black vote for Dems who haven't done a blessed thing for them in 40 years except keeping them down?"

Because they're smarter than the bigots who inhabit the GOP.

Fully half of the people on that stage would be Democrats in the South or Texas.

The NY Gui and the Gov of Taxechusetts, indeed!

Romney finally answers a question (Confederate flag). Woohoo! And he just lost the South.

Potty mouth tool!

Paul suggests that we brought the attacks on 9/11 upon ourselves

Again BowWow, your ignorance is stunning. Stationing troops in Saudi Arabia brought on the animosity.

Of course what Paul said is that it is our foreign policy and interference in the governance of sovereign states like the coup that put the Shah back in Iran that has cause "blow back" in foreign affairs.

BTW, he's quoting the 911 Commission that Rudy wasn't able to attend because he was out making money on the roast beef circuit.

Paul says trade with these countries, but otherwise let them govern themselves.

Of course I'm sure you appreciated your neighbors stopping by to decide what you can or can't do within your own home. Right?

Paul "bridges" the Goverment gap.

Murphy it's not Bullshit it's the truth. Had we not of meddled in the middle east we would never have been attacked. We are reaping what we have sown. It sucks but don't blame Me blame Our Government.

Larry Mohr

Do you realize how stupid that response is Hans?

They have been put down into welfare and abortions and being poor and in jail for 40 years--instead of lifting them up --give them vouchers so the kids can go to better schools and stop the phucking handouts and get them a friggin job???

You can give people money and they spend it --give them a friggin job and they are lifted out--for the next generation too!

Murphy

I guess the debate is over since they cut away to the focus group before it ended --

What channel are you watching?

Rudy compliments Bill Clinton.

Unintentionally, of course.

Murphy go research Operation Ajax sometime. You might change Your tune.

Larry Mohr

Great answer from Rudy on the friggin NY Yankee softball question!

Murphy

"Do you realize how stupid that response is Hans?"

That you fail to recognize the inherent bigotry of the GOP is the quintessential definition of "stupid."

Hans

"Say you wanna Revolution?
We-ell you know...."

-Paul

Romney blew that "look forward to the day" gay question big time. His answer reminded me of Hillary Clinton's "we'll form a committee" answers in the Philly debate. Telling people you plan to have a solution is not a solution.

I think Huckabee and McCain have done the best this evening and both Romney and Giuliani hurt themselves. But I'm too much a yellow dog to judge a GOP debate.

And he just lost the South.

You are smarter than that...

Murphy

McCain/Huckabee would be great ticket.

Whenever John started rolling around on the deck, Mike could tie him down.

Well that was interesting!

Coupla highlights from the debate from Spud's perspective?

Rudy being asked if he was exploiting 9/11 to springboard into the WH.

Rudy sez no but then mentions 9/11 2001 FOUR times in his response.

Huckabee came across as the most likable with RP coming in second.

Spud luffed the Black guy from California asking a stage full of Rich White Guys why blacks didn't vote rethug in great numbers. Ever read a history book schmuck? Spud was just suprised that A) His name wasn't Tom and B)he didn't call them all "Massa" or sommat. Sounded like a plant question to Spud.

Thompson? "Overturning Roe v Wade is our number one priority"

NEEEEEEEPP!

Wrong answer thanx fer playing.

Be Well.

Sounded like a plant question to Spud.

I just thought it was a dumb question, like the one by the Cheney animation. Sometimes voters can ask questions just as pointless as professional journalists.

"Hans --you realllly believe that giving someone--anyone a job is bigotry?"

Apparently, "giving" away jobs isn't bigotry.

I always thought the opposite was true. Something known as "merit."

You are smarter than that...

Hans

I'm too much a yellow dog to judge

Wow Spud! where to begin - you used a jewish slur and rascist stereotypes in one statement to insult a black man whom you apparently didn't like because you disagree with him. What are you Canadian?

Lmao!!

Bob Bennett thinks it was a bad idea for Rudy to talk about what Mitt did around his house, considering what Rudy is known for doing around his own!

McCain is great on his let's get the victory to RP.

RP is an isolasionist--that is why he will not win the GOP--he'll get money to run till the next couple of months--but he is sooo wrong for this present time.

Oh yeah--they are having the line by line answers reviewed by the viewers..

Time to have another---

Murphy

Didn't you get the memo?
Posted by Hans

What does that have to do with Bill and Cigar...Oh, I get it!

"Oh, I get it!"

Sure... I knew you would.

Hans

Why would any GOP member even waste their money on trying to run, they know they have no chance.

Hans--you know what I mean--give someone money and they amount to nothing than taking more money without earning it or lifting them up to that person's greater potential or to their kids.

It means means giving folks the means to get a job and that gives most folks the confidence to keep the job and then by merit--they get better and surpass where they used to be by promotion--earning more--getting a better job.

It starts with the job--and I dont mean by affirmative action--because the last 30 to 40 years of AA hasn't really done the job now has it??

Murphy

Huckabee wins the sound bite of the night. Clinton to Mars will be the line everyone will take away from tonight. It'll definitely play in Iowa.

they know they have no chance.

Sure they do! You've often sounded like you're going to vote for one of them.

"It starts with the job--and I dont mean by affirmative action--because the last 30 to 40 years of AA hasn't really done the job now has it??"

Worked pretty good for Clarence Thomas.

Hans

WisGod, Bowa and Murphy:

Ron Paul has garnered more donations from (traitorous?) active duty military than any of your pro-torture-invade-another-
country darlings.

I'm sure they are "blame America first" subversives, as are all your straw men.

Huckabee was good tonight because he was trying out for Rudy's VP spot. Rudy applauded him several times.

John McCain prolly helped himself the most.

Yes Spud is a kanuck--but don't hold that against him..

Murphy

"give someone money and they amount to nothing than taking more money without earning it"

I didn't realize the topic had changed to farm subsidies... or energy credits.

Hans

You are correct on the farm crap and energy credits--stay consistent.

Murphy

I think that Huckabee gets a big bump in the polls after this debate.

Rudy will stay even and maybe even lose a couple of points. Not one of his strongest showings.

Romney will be the big loser in the polls -- I think he loses his lead in Iowa by more then the margin of error after this.

Thompson started off strong then flattened -- he should stay even in the polls.

McCain should pick up some ground on Romney in Iowa.

Paul further established the case that a 3rd party run by him would be like Nader and take votes away from the Democrat not the GOP candidate.

The poor performances and poll numbers of Tancredo and Hunter are proof that the religious right has lost it's power over the GOP.

Bennett starts rumor on CNN about the gay guy being a plant from the Clinton campaign.

He's the moral one, you know.

You can bet on it.

u-tube debate observations Part Deux.

Romney? Now there's one slimy melon farmer!

Evasive, failing to answer questions, always with that inane grin on his puss, the man is actually oilier than his hair.

Luffed the thumper question...

Shaking his Bible ..."do you believe this book?"

Romney answering in the affirmitive w/o mentioning his other odd beliefs was amusing to Spud.

The guy was doing the slimy-pol two-step all night.

McCain's shining moment came when confronting the other GOPhers on the question of torture aka waterboarding.

Mr Straight Talk totally owned the rest with his impassioned argument that anyone who believed WB wasn't torture wasn't paying attention and that the US should be better than that. Good on McCain fer THAT thought Spud.

Romney refused to answer the question directly again. Wot a total loser thought Spud.

Then McCain blew it by taking the tack that "American Public opinion lost the war in Vietnam" and trying to assert that the Dems were doing the same thing in Iraq.

Ron Paul RAWKED with his "Let them have their country back" response.

Not one candidate up there was brave enuff to say that openly gay folk should be allowed to serve in the armed forces. Most of them falling back on quoting Powell that it would "hurt unit cohesion"

Spud to Powell (and the GOPher candidates of course):

Back in WWII they sed similar things about mixing blacks and whites in the same units. Powell is about as wrong as they were and with him the irony just reeks from across the street. Spud sees normalising gay citizenry as being the only sane and moral choice, further it's too much of a security risk not too.

Spud luffed it when Anderson (rumoured to be gay hisself doncha know) nailed Romney with his own words while governor of Mass. Spud went into this debate distrusting Romney and cvame out of it actively loathing the unprincipled thug.

Luffed the way they did a quick cut to Chuck Norris when Huckabee was responding to a question.

"How subTle!" thought Spud.

Mary Matlin got an aisle seat? Quelle suprise!

Be Well.

McCain should pick up some ground on Romney in Iowa.

I meant McCain should pick up some ground on Romney in New Hampshire

Gee, it's so nice that we have you to inform us of the "big picture" as to why torture isn't torture, and why "we" have to "kill them all to survive".

Nice to have you on board, Murph.

Not one candidate up there was brave enuff to say that openly gay folk should be allowed to serve in the armed forces. Most of them falling back on quoting Powell that it would "hurt unit cohesion"

I was really surprised that Rudy didn't get a chance to answer this question -- especially since he lived with two gay men while separated from his wife.

Any of the docs up tonight? Got a bad case of tennis elbow from lifting heavy tonight. Should I just Ice it until I can't feel it?

Hey Murphy gotta question for You. Say I decided I wanted the Natural Resources from Your back Yard and took it upon Myself to dig those Natural Resources out from Your backYard. Would You not point a Gun to My head and if I did not stop pull the trigger?? Honestly now what would You do??

Larry Mohr

If this debate showed anything (I watched the first hour) it showed that there is no Republican candidate other than McCain who is even half-way qualified to be a dog-catcher. What a bunch of losers.

It's deliberate, of course; they WANT to lose, they actually NEED to lose, because whoever wins in 2008 is going to be in for such a pile of crap they want a Democrat to have to confront it.

I don't own a gun Larry-

I would have to invite you over for BBQ-- ;o)

Nothing like a pig roast.

Murphy-
So, are active duty military just confused about the current direction of the need to "kill them all", as you state?

I am not pro torture and neither is the US...

And the invasion is what it is--we are killing the bad guys and AQ is just about decimated...

We are winnning in Iraq--get your local listings and not Keith Overbite...

Murphy

CNN's 24 undecided Republicans - did anyone stand out tonight or sway you, help you decide who you'd vote for?

Two answers:

1) No, and if the Democrats ran Edwards, I'd vote for him after tonight.

2) Maybe Giuliani - he might be able to beat Clinton.

Murphy-
re: I am not pro torture and neither is the US...

Of course not. By definition, what you support is not torture. It couldn't be, because you are anti-torture.

You can invite me to the BBQ and I'll even bring a gun for you use - of course after I brief you on its proper use and safety features.

JamesH

And the invasion is what it is--we are killing the bad guys and AQ is just about decimated...

Someone going to point out what "decimated" means?

Did I spell it wrong? Is that the best you can do Mr. Spell Checker?

Murphy

Did I spell it wrong?

Not at all, that's the correct spelling. I just thought with the "kill them all" perspective you had you'd be shooting for something better than "decimated."

Romney lost tonight. Just on the gays in the military question.

Jeez, and they called KERRY a flip flopping nuance guy? Whew...

Cooper --STFU!

I was talking about gays in the military--if they are in the military and they want to kill the enemy--right on!

If they are interpreters who know arabic--right on!

I don't have a problem with gays in the military--unlike you of course--Boyd!

Murphy

Spud,

Why don't you try sharing a fox hole or a bunk in a ship with a person that would like to butt hole you - then ask why gays should not be in the military.

As to Paul - only a liberal or an idiot (the same?) would think that his answers were even close to logical.

As to torture - EVERYTHING that they got out of Faraj al-Libbi was verified by other sources and resulted in actionable intelligence. So these statements of "it doesn't work" is just false. McCain is biased because he had to go through it...which is why he should never be president.

We'd been better off putting 160,000 troops in Afghanistan to start with and if they went into Pakistan...so fucking what? They can't run and they can't hide?

Bremer turned Iraq into a clusterfuck and we've been stuck with it for 4 years too many.

I just thought it was a dumb question, like the one by the Cheney animation. Sometimes voters can ask questions just as pointless as professional journalists.

Ya mean like wot kind of guns do you own and wots yer favorite type of ammunition?

Some deflections were mildly amusing to Spud.

On the whole Pro life v. Pro Death penalty question Huckabee response was sincere and the audience responded well to it.

"Jesus was too smart to run for public office" was pretty good. Murphy caught that Spud is see! Good eye, Murph!

Should we put a man on Mars (a good question fer a debate in FLA, btw) garnered a real crowd pleaser.

"Sure, let's put Hillary there first"

Okay, Spud chuckled a little there.

Spud thought Rudy actually made a lot of sense defending his position on having a written test for folk who wanna become gun owners. Too bad the NRA crowd booed him fer it.

Ron Paul's supporters were definitely the loudest and most racous in the crowd. Different kind of republicans thought Spud.

The line item veto response by McCain with his big black felt marker seemed a little out of place.

Spud had a quiet chuckle when the question came up

...Would you give yer Veep the power of Cheney?

Their non-answers made one thing perfectly clear.

Everyone on that stage is deathly afriad of the guy

The Animated Cheney was more of a plug fer an editorial cartoonist than anything else.

Dumb stuff, indeed.

No luff fer the Lincoln Log Cabin Republicans?

Quelle suprise although Huckabee's response of he'll take any help he can get was genuinely amusing until he re-iterated his stance against gay marriage.

Fer the most part they were old school Rah-Rah types of pols who just didn't get it. But they were also professional panderers who play their base like a fiddle in most cases.

The gay military guy's mic getting cut seemed rather odd to Spud. Deliberate. an act of God like the lightening at that previosu GOP debate or merely a technical fuck up?

Prolly the third option thinks Spud.

That's it fer now.

Be Well.

Murphy-
Um...I didn't comment on your gay thing, but do carry on.

And who is this Tobin idiot!?

And Spud--

Mary Matlin is on the Fred Thompson wagon--heavy...

And Yav--AQ is whipped out by the US can of whoop ass! It was the surge and now if the damn Al Maliki can get his shit together..

McCain is really the candidate that is keeping the same line of supporting the military on Iraq--supported the surge and during and after...

Murphy

Why don't you try sharing a fox hole or a bunk in a ship with a person that would like to butt hole you - then ask why gays should not be in the military.

Clueless. This should be entertaining.

I would have to invite you over for BBQ

~Murphy

Spud is luff BBQ.

Back later.

Be Well.

And the gay guy questioner was a shill for HIllary Clinton--HAAAAAAA

He still had a good question--he should have qualified it by saying he loves HIllary and Billary..
Amazing--

Murphy

But I suppose "Foshaffer" is at least honest, unlike Murphy.

I'm a liberal democrat. I want to see the candidates who I think stand no chance in a general election. Namely, Giulianni or Romney.

'night.

Looks like Bowa is parroting the same old "Paul thinks we deserved 9/11" bullshit. I already argued with you about this, but here we go again.

Saying that A caused B does not mean "we deserved B." If I've been picking on someone my whole life, and they come back one day and stab me, I can recognize that my picking on them caused them to stab me. Does that mean that I think I deserved to be stabbed? No. It is most likely that I think it was a disproportionate reaction.

Same with anyone who thinks our interventionist foreign policy caused 9/11. It doesn't mean we deserve to be attacked or that terrorists are to be applauded for doing so. It's called being realistic and calling a spade a spade.

Is anyone else embarrassed by some of the format tonight? Songs, mini hate ads, and waffling pols.

Overall youtube debates was a good idea, but it didn't take CNN long to fuck it up. Granted THIS time around was more commercial and less goofy(talking snowmen... jesus)

But the entire thing is NOT something I am proud of. It is NOT anywhere near what a presidential race should feel like. This was like a bad SNL sketch.(some of the answers too)

Think of it this way: There are millions of undecided voters who probably watched this travesty tonight to pick their next president.

I must go lie down now.

Paul suggests that we brought the attacks on 9/11 upon ourselves -- that we somehow deserved to be attacked. he is a vile person in my book.

Odd that both the CIA and the 9/11 Commission report both site blowback as a contributing factor to the attacks on the world trade center. I guess Rudy didnt tell you about that because he forgot to attend the 9/11 commission.

I give you the southern avenger:

www.youtube.com

There's a little history lesson in here for you Bowa. I know it won't sink in, but hey...being a "moderate" there might be a chance.

Cooper was more like a straight man in a monty python sketch than a host. He should have stayed home, along with the candidates.

I swear, the whole thing had a barnum and bailey feel to it. Maybe the snowman can host the next one...he'd do better than Russert or Blitzer.

Jesus, i can't get over this. All these men running for leader of the free world and all the 'debate' was missing was trapeze. (and substance, not rhetoric. I want hours long debates on specific policy plans, where the money is going to and from, not "we're gonna do this" feel-good shit)

Am I asking too much? Apparently.

"Am I asking too much?"

Far too much. Why do they even call these things "debates" anymore? The candidates barely even address one another, and if they do it's to take a cheap shot, not to get to the bottom of substantive policy issues. Lincoln and Douglas are rolling in their graves, that's for certain.

Thanks for helping me not believe I am insane, joe.

And where did they get that crowd ? The WWE? A NASCAR rally? Booo, hiiissss, yelll.

STFU, let the candidates talk!

We NEED more Lincoln/Douglas debates in this country. If you're bored by real govt, then don't fucking vote!

Paul suggests that we brought the attacks on 9/11 upon ourselves -- that we somehow deserved to be attacked. he is a vile person in my book.

Get stuffed.

If you read the writings of the whack job like Bin Laden you will learn, as Paul has, that one of the main reasons for their active dislike for the west is the fact that there are troops in SA.

The one-sided support of Israel that has allowed a 40 year occupation to take place in Palestine aint helpng either.

GOPhers who ignore these inconvenient truths and pull sound bytes like "they hate us for our freedoms" out of their asses are all vile people in Spud's eyes.

Spud doesn't reward ignorance with praise.

I want hours long debates on specific policy plans

In the age of the MTV edit and a deliberately dumbed down populace?

Good luck with that, ALex. Spud would like it too but it is, unfortunately "asking too much" these days.

Lincoln and Douglas are rolling in their graves, that's for certain

They are indeed spinning in their graves especially after tonight thinks Spud.

The only thing spinning faster than Lincoln and Douglas were the pols on that stage tonight.

Be Well.

I agree. I didn't even watch the debate so I can't comment on the crowd, but I've seen enough of them to know that nothing important is ever actually "debated" upon. Debates now are nothing more than live forums for candidates to spout headline-oriented nonsense.

The term "debate" implies that the candidates have different positions on an issue, and that they plan to explain the merits of their positions and emphatically give Americans reasons why their position on that issue is the correct one for us. Instead the only back and forth we get are "well, Romney did this in 1973, well Giuliani said that to his wife."

Fuck it.

Wow Spud! where to begin - you used a jewish slur and rascist stereotypes in one statement to insult a black man whom you apparently didn't like because you disagree with him. What are you Canadian?

~Foghat

Wot are you ...dense?

Spud is now trying to decide whether or not Foshafter is a schlemiel or a schlamazel.

Do you know the difference?

According to a friend o' Spud's, a schlemiel is a guy who accidently spills his bowl of soup all over another guy in a restaraunt and a schlamazel is the guy who gets the soup spilt on him.

Spud's going with "a bit of both" plus a touch of meshugena.

Let's review shall we?

A Black man from LA asks a stage full of white guys on a stage in FLA why more blacks don't vote Rethug. WTF? Like THOSE guys have their fingers on the pulse of the black community? Nephew, puh-lease! To Spud this is kinda like Nanook of the North asking a group of Texans fer tips on Polar bear hunting.

The full question actually was why religious black folk who share similar "social values" as conservatives don't vote more for GOPhers.

Last election Spud remembers seeing an interview with a sweet grandmotherly looking black lady who identified herself as a Southern Baptist. She sed she was gonna vote fer the GOPhers precisely because they were against equal rights for gays. This made Spud kinda sad. There's this old saying.

"Last one up into the treehouse is the first to vote to pull the rope-ladder up behind 'em so nobody else can come up."

ie Blacks struggled fer well over a hundred years to gain sommat resembling equality in the US and be damned if Gays were gonna get it too w/o a similar struggle.

Do you know NWA?

"...but don't let it be a black and a white one
They'll slam your ass down to the street top
Black Police showing off for the White Cop"

Know wot eye'm saying, dawg?

Rcade called it a dumb question.
Spud called it a plant.
Rcade's been running boards fer a while now
and hence knows a li'l sommat about dumb questions
Spud actually is a plant, a tuber, in fact.

Natural bias.

Be Well.

Be Well.

"If you would have taken the most-viewed questions last time, the top question would have been whether Arnold Schwarzenegger was a cyborg sent to save the planet Earth," CNN senior vice president David Bohrman told Wired.com.

That pretty much sums it up.

Fuck "YouTube".

Fuck the "young, tech-saavy voter".

Fuck the hemp-wearing, recycling "young-people-who-aren't-

This is a nation of people who bust their asses, earn livings, and raise families, and do other things associated with real life.

Those are the people who make the world happen---and actually vote.

People who choose to inform themselves politically with "YouTube" should be taken with the same degree of seriousness as people who choose to inform themselves politically with Mother Jones or Time.

Murphy,

The story goes that when the Romans performed poorly in battle, that the would kill every tenth man in their army "Decimating" it. It's an old definition and kind of picky to use.

Cheers

No reply from bowa eh?

Why am I not surprised?

All I have learned from visiting this site over the last couple of years is that most people believe that those who believe in the Constitution are nuts and that Bowa is a total shitwreck... Sad..

The story goes that when the Romans performed poorly in battle, that the would kill every tenth man in their army "Decimating" it. It's an old definition and kind of picky to use.

Or you could actually use a dictionary and look up the word. The fact that it's misused constantly shouldn't be rewarded or excused:

Merriam-Webster:
1: to select by lot and kill every tenth man of
2: to exact a tax of 10 percent from
3 a: to reduce drastically especially in number b: to cause great destruction or harm to

Or as American Heritage states:
1. To destroy or kill a large part of (a group). 2. Usage Problem a. To inflict great destruction or damage on: The fawns decimated my rose bushes. b. To reduce markedly in amount: a profligate heir who decimated his trust fund. 3. To select by lot and kill one in every ten of.
Usage Note: Sixty-six percent of the Usage Panel accepts this extension in the sentence The Jewish population of Germany was decimated by the war, even though it is common knowledge that the number of Jews killed was much greater than a tenth of the original population. However, when the meaning is further extended to include large-scale destruction other than killing, as in The supply of fresh produce was decimated by the nuclear accident at Chernobyl, only 26 percent of the Panel accepts the usage.

And it wasn't performed poorly" it was for mutiny.

It's an old definition and kind of picky to use.

If you're going to be snide, at least be accurate.

The fact that people like BOWA and Rob The Hole don't like Ron Paul should be reason enough for normal people to like him.

The fact that people like BOWA and Rob The Hole don't like Ron Paul proves that they can't be wrong all the time.
Ron Paul is crazeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

In all his years as an OB/GYN he NEVER saw one single case where a clinical abortion was called for????? Gee, guess not if the life of the mother doesn't matter....otherwise.....LIAR!!

There's a pleasant surprise. We can find common ground, wisgod.

The ONE good move they made last night was to no longer allow actual 9 year olds to ask adult questions and be used as props.

But I still can't get over the snowman vs Romney from the other debate. Even Monty Python couldn't come up with something that absurd. *sigh*

"I agree with you completely. You would think the legal voting age in this country was 9."

In many respects, IT IS!

The fact that you changed parties to vote for him, should be reason enough to have him exhiled to Elba...

I really hate Huckabee but he did pretty well in this debate. He's wrong on a lot of topics, but he's funny and charming, and all of that crap. People often eat that shit up more quickly than they do the actual answers to the issues.

McCain did really well, especially on the topic of torture. He made Romney look pretty silly dancing around the issue without really saying anything useful.

However, Paul also made McCain look silly when McCain challenged him on foreign policy. I respect McCain, but it is ridiculous to say that public opinion is why we lost the Vietnam war. We lost the Vietnam war because Armies have a very difficult time taking over a country where the civilians, or people who look like civilians, are trying to kill you. Paul's only slip up was that he had a mind fart and forgot that the northerners in Iraq are called Kurds.

"In all his years as an OB/GYN he NEVER saw one single case where a clinical abortion was called for????? Gee, guess not if the life of the mother doesn't matter....otherwise.....LIAR!!

Prove that he had cases where the life of the mother was in danger and then lied about it, or STFU.

LIVEORDIE I will express my opinion when and how I choose whether you like it or not.
Just because you were too stupid to see through that comment by Ron Paul don't blame me.

I suggest the next debate be held at Pee-wee's Playhouse. Let Chairry and Cowboy Curtis moderate.

I couldn't agree more incredibleplum. Except i don't think Paul looked very good--I think the impression you got was NOT because of Paul's great answer--rather it was from McCain's stupid answer. I thought that exchange really gave Paul an opportunity to lay the smack down. He blew it. And when he couldn't remember the name of the Kurds, it really hurt his foreign

McCain was VERY strong (i was extremely impressed, actually) and Huckabee preformed well (eventhough i completely disagree with his answers).

Yeah, as a Paul supporter, that Kurd slip up was a big Matzah ball hanging out there. He knows they are Kurds, he just had a mind fart, but things like that mean something in a debate. It sort of discredits the point he was trying to make to those who are still undecided on that particular topic. Other than that though, I think he did lay the smack down on McCain, but that could just be biased coming from a libertarian.

But I definitely agree, other than the Paul challenge McCain was very impressive. Too bad neither of them will get the nomination. I'm actually starting to worry more about Huckabee. I can't imagine having to decide between Huckabee and Clinton... That's like having to choose between shooting yourself in the left foot or the right foot. I suppose either is better than Giulliani, though. I'd almost rather shoot myself in the stomach then vote for that asshole.

"Just because you were too stupid to see through that comment by Ron Paul don't blame me."

I don't blame you for your stupidity, I blame your parents.

That you can't possibly fathom that he may have never come into a situation where a clinical abortion was necessary for the life of the mother just shows you for the drooling, blind hack that you are. Are there so many women in the U.S. on the verge of death due to pregnancy that every single OBGYN will see it in their career?

No reply from bowa eh?

I'm not sure what I'm supposed to respond to, I stand by my opinion of Ron Paul -- he is a self-loathing blame america first isolationist creep who excuses the attacks by Jihadists on America by claiming they were somehow justified. In Ron Paul's world we should just abandon our allies like Israel and Iraq in the Middle East and deem the entire region unworthy of being considered of strategic interest to America -- all to placate the desires of terrorists. He is a disgusting and vile human being whose sole purpose in my view is to wage a 3rd party run for President that will destroy any hopes for the Democratic Candidate. And I will applaud Paul's effort in that regard.

As for the debate itself -- CNN's disgusting bias was on Parade -- this time in the form of a Hillary plant as well as misrepresenting Edwards and Obama supporters as undecided GOP-leaning independents.

The main message is that CCNN is a pro-Democrat, pro-Hillary network thatis hopelessly biased to the extreme -- FOX by comparison is truly "fair and balanced" and has proven that in the few debates it has handled.

The fact that there were so many hillary/edwards supporters asking questions i think will HURT their respective candidates. It makes me want to vote for them even less.

But really, is CNN biased for allowing democrats to ask questions? I think the don't ask/don't tell questions went too far (i'll give you that)---but the question about lead in toys and other questions were perfectly valid, non-partisian issues. Does it really matter WHO asks the question so long as it isn't biased?

I disagree Bowa. Paul supported the Afghanistan war after 9/11. That does not support your claim that he is excuses jihadists. He does believe we should go after people who attack us, but to also use extreme caution in our foreign policy, as almost every policy has negative consequences.

Alliances only make the enemies of our allies angry at us, especially when we sell them the weapons that they use against their enemies. So yes, I agree, Paul wants to abandon allies, but what use are military alliances if they only create more enemies?

Military bases in foreign countries also piss people off. I'm sure most people in the US wouldn't be happy if Germany or Britain had military bases in the US, never mind when you are talking about a country like the US having bases in a culture that is completely different than ours is. I'm not saying most Americans would directly do anything about it, but there is a fairly good chance that a small group of Americans would be offended enough by a foreign military base to form a group that was against it, and that would find as many reasons as to why you should be against it (just like how the Jihadis use religion) to attract as many people to the cause as possible, and could possibly do something violent.

And I disagree that CNN is liberally biased. If anything it's former liberal lean has become nothing more than FOX light. And FOX is not fair and balanced as it is not news. FOX is 90% opinion, 10% news. This much opinion in a "news" program should never be considered "fair and balanced", especially when the hosts don't let their guests make a point they disagree with.

Real "fair and balanced" news can be found on C-Span.

More Boos At Republican YouTube Debate As McCain Re-Writes History

The fact that you changed parties to vote for him, should be reason enough to have him exhiled to Elba...
I don't give a shit what party I vote for. I vote for the individual candidate.
So I guess if satan was running for office and he was in your party, you would vote for satan?

Are you comparing Ron Paul to Napoleon? Both strong charismatic leaders ...

"He is a disgusting and vile human being whose sole purpose in my view is to wage a 3rd party run for President that will destroy any hopes for the Democratic Candidate. And I will applaud Paul's effort in that regard."

Only in the delusional world of a
pants-pisser would the independent candidacy of a life-long, conservative, so-called "pro-life" Republican be a threat to the Democratic nominee.

Hans

I agree, Jeff. Vote for the best man, not the party. That's how democracy is supposed to work. It's these kinds of statements that prove my point that we need to just eliminate party politics. Perhaps people might actually start listening to the issues if they don't have a team to cheer on. With 2 sides, some people treat politics like it's a football game, always rooting for one side. It's not a game, it's about picking the individual you think will run the country the best.

I posted this in the other thread too:

But during the McCain vs. Paul exchange I think McCains comparison of our "isolationism" and WW2 was way off. We'd picked our sides LONG before Pearl Harbor. IE: supplies, raw materials and war items (tanks, planes etc to UK)

I really wish they would've kept that line of debate open longer. It annoyed me to see them switch from something so poignant to some hillbilly having a shotgun tossed to him or whatever was next.

I agree that the Kurd slip-up was bad, but at the same time I know how Paul must feel. When I'm in a stressful situation and being confronted with bullshit, I often have that reaction too.. many of us do.

Long story short, I think all of the "main stream" Republicans are in total denial about the costs, effects and outcomes of our constant involvment overseas. Our constant fascination for supplying money & weapons to the "dictator of the day" and assisting proxy wars needs to end.

"If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit." seems to tbe the party line.

Spud,

Why don't you try sharing a fox hole or a bunk in a ship with a person that would like to butt hole you - then ask why gays should not be in the military.

In wartime, you fight to preserve the life of the guy (or gal) beside you more than any other factor you'd care to name.

Spud thinks one of the best ways to break down prejudice would be to allow gays to serve.

As to Paul - only a liberal or an idiot (the same?) would think that his answers were even close to logical.

Without an example yer just spewing invective, spinning yer wheels and looking like an idiot yerself.

As to torture - EVERYTHING that they got out of Faraj al-Libbi was verified by other sources and resulted in actionable intelligence. So these statements of "it doesn't work" is just false. McCain is biased because he had to go through it...which is why he should never be president

Torture will sometimes produce actionable intel but in the main it is useless. In fact it is worse than useless. Actions lead to reactions as Newton observed. The action of torture didn't win the Vietnam War fer the US and in fact only made the Viet Cong crazier and more determined to rout the furreners from their country.

Same thing'll happen in Iraq and Afghanistan (although most of the torture there is Afghani on Afghani).

If Fosho'mynephew ever has a real intelligent thought on any topic Spud'd like to hear it.

Not holding me breath or nothin'.

Just sayin'.

Be Well.

PS: Not really here. Back later.

Paul supported the Afghanistan war after 9/11.

Paul did not support the mission to depose the Taliban in Afghanistan. he supported only goijng after Bin-laden provided we knew that he was there in advance. And since we did not know what "cave" bin-laden was in, Paul believed we had no right stomping around Afghanistan looking for him.

Alliances only make the enemies of our allies angry at us, especially when we sell them the weapons that they use against their enemies. So yes, I agree, Paul wants to abandon allies, but what use are military alliances if they only create more enemies?

Who cares. As long as we have the right people who hate us. If bin-laden, hama, and Iran were not our enemies -- then there would be a problem.

The fact is that America stands for democracy, freedom, individual liberties and capitalism -- and we must support those allies like Israel and the fledgling nation of Iraq who we beleive will be important in the mission to carry those prinsiples for which we stand in the region for many years to come.

In other cases, we are forced by necessity to ally with nations like Saudi Arabia, China, pakistan and Russia who are far from the american ideal -- but because of their strategic necessity we must have peace with them.

On the other hand nations like Iran

Military bases in foreign countries also piss people off. I'

I agree. Let these countries pay for their own military to protect themselves -- they have been getting our "protection" for free for far too long -- and it certainly hasn't even bought us much goodwill. When nations in Europe have to begin paying our huge sums of money for defense - maybe they will appreciate us more.

I guess we disagree then. I just wathced two debates on CNN -- in the first liberals asked democrats questions - and in the 2nd liberals asked republicans questions. What does that tell you? And in both, CNN mislead the public by misrepresenting the questioners, focus group attendees, and after debate pundits.

I'm in total agreement Gimpster. We picked our sides in WWII prior to Pearl Harbor just as we had picked our sides via supplies during WWI. And yes, the topic should have been debated further. How much of a debate is a "debate" if they are each only allowed 2 or 3 minutes of dialogue. I understand they wanted to get through as many You Tube comments as possible, but a serious topic like that should be allowed to carry on.

And yes, many of us do have slip ups. I remember someone saying something along the lines of "fooled you once, shame on you; fooled you twice.........well...uh...you can't get fooled again". Perhaps Paul's was a bit less drastic, but regardless, slip ups can be taken quite negatively by an unsure audience.

Gee from the way he talks, you would think Bowa was making excuses for why Rudy didn't do so well last night.

Naw!

I forgot to add, did anyone notice Romney constantly needing to "seek advice and council..."

Getting advice is great (wish Bush would've had better advice), but for heavens sake you need to stand for something on that stage AND have a mind of your own.

If your stand or decision is wrong, take your lumps like an adult.

Paul did not support the mission to depose the Taliban in Afghanistan. he supported only goijng after Bin-laden

Reading from Rudi's Bible again...

Ron Paul makes the distinction that in order to commit troops to the battlefield there must be a Declaration of War. That can only come from Congress, and obviously involves posing the question and debating it.

Who cares. As long as we have the right people who hate us.

Absurd. One of the many things Paul gets right is to have free and open trade with a dialogue that shows respect for every country's choice of government.

IOW, no interference in their internal affairs, no economic sanctions that only distress the average citizens; and, by standing on the principles illuminated by our Constitution, serving as an example to the rest of world.

That this fails to resonate with all the BowWows in the GOP is a shame. All Americans owe an allegiance to our Constitution. When we ignore those principles or act in contravention to them we stand to lose the guarantees that they provide us.

It's that simple.

Gee from the way he talks, you would think Bowa was making excuses for why Rudy didn't do so well last night.

I already admitted that it wasn't one of Rudy's better performances and predicted he would lose a couple of points in the national polls.

Of course, the scandal created by CNN's bias and overt manipulation of public perception, has certainly helped move the subject away from Rudy's poor performance which is a good thing.

"did anyone notice Romney constantly needing to "seek advice and council..."

Romney doesn't even know Romney's political position. Pretty pathetic job last night.

Ozark hit the nail on the head in terms of Paul and Afghanistan. Also, there was no real need to go after the Taliban as Saudi Arabia was just as guilty of supplying Al Qaeda.

"Who cares. As long as we have the right people who hate us." - Bowa

That's a dangerous attitude for a country to have. By supporting someone, and therefore pissing off their enemies, you are empowering the people who hate America to rule these countries, as well as empowering people like Osama bin Laden by giving people a reason to hate and want to attack Americans. Terrorism is based on ideology. You can't stop the ideology through force. The best way to slow it down is to limit the number of reasons why people in foreign countries should fear and/or hate you.

By supporting someone, and therefore pissing off their enemies

Again. Who really cares about pissinbg off our enemies - especially when we are supporting an ally like israel that shares so much in common with our ideals.

Frankly, our enemies should be more worried about pissing us off then we are worried about pissing them off. But that's stating the obvious isn't it? Except to the self-loathing blame america first crowd.

You should care about pissing the common people in an "enemy" country off. If the common people like the US they will be more likely to revolt against their governments and less likely to join terrorist organizations. They will also be more likely to accept the US if we are put in a position where we have to attack them.

Besides, why do you want to keep enemies? If you want peace shouldn't one of your major goals be to eliminate as many enemies as possible? Besides, why should we care so much about Israel, even if they supposedly do share our ideals? I'm not aware of any real benefit we get, and the cost is a bunch of people who are pissed off that we support Israel more than we support them. I don't know how it could possibly be worth that kind of trouble.

"Why don't you try sharing a fox hole or a bunk in a ship with a person that would like to butt hole you - then ask why gays should not be in the military.

I can see Forshaffer now, bleeding profusely in his foxhole, after shooting himself in his own ass and then crapping in the wound. The medic comes to try to save his useless life, and Forshaffer won't let him work on him unless he swears first that he doesn't suck dick. Your repressed, Forshaffer, or you wouldn't be so worried about what you would do if a(nother) homosexual got near you. Idiot.

Your=You're

I really don't understand people's fear of gay people. Who cares if a gay guy thinks you're attractive. If he's not anally raping you than perhaps you should take it as a compliment instead of taking it offensively. I highly doubt that gay people being in the military leads to some sort of assraping problem. It doesn't happen when you put straight men and women together in the armed services, so what would make someone think gays would be much different?

especially when we are supporting an ally like israel that shares so much in common with our ideals.

A parliamentary government that practices socialism?

A garrison state that refused the right of return to non-Jewish residents who only fled the violence of war, and in some cases were forcibly removed from strategic locations by the Israeli Army?

A country that possesses nuclear weapons but refuses to acknowledge such and thus disallows IAEA inspections and compliance?

A nation that does not provide due process for those within its dominion? (Whoops, you may have a point here)

Yeah, we're toe to toe so to speak.

I didn't catch it live so I watched the entire debate at CNN.com.

I'm not planning on voting for any GOP candidate this year, so I'll leave it at I took the time to watch the debate so as to be informed.

As much as I hate to say it, I wasn't impressed with any of them.

I have not done any work (for Clinton), several friends asked me if I would allow my name to be listed, and I agreed,' Kerr said referring to his position on the steering committee.

Kerr said is a registered independent and has not donated money to Clinton or any other 2008 candidates, and he stressed that no one put him up to asking the question. A search of OpenSecrets,a campaign finance database confirms Kerr has made no donations.

'This was a private initiative on my own,' Kerr told CNN host John King."

Well, I do hope America has learned it's lesson about voting for the 'guy they like the most'. Hasn't worked out too well.

Why can't the GOP return to being the party of Eisenhower. Pragmatic, humble, reasonable, diplomatic - representatives of all the people instead of slaves to a narrow band of evangelical and NeoCon ideology. Eisenhower would get in the face of today's brand.

Senators such as Spector, Hagel, Warner are good examples. Whether or not you agree with their positions, they're reasonable and statesmanlike people who will do the right thing even when they take a shitload of flack from their own for doing so.

He has his name added on a list. He is a Independent. He is supporting a Republican in his home district. Bowa-do research. Moron.

LOL

Independents don't put their name on "lists' in support of a specific candidate. Otherwise they wouldn't be independent now would they.

And What part of "co-chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton's National Military Veterans group" didn't you understand?

A " co-chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton's National Military Veterans group" cannot be an independent.

That is because they are a " co-chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton's National Military Veterans group."

"Retired Brig. Gen. Keith H. Kerr was named a co-chair of the group this month, according to a campaign press release"
www.usnews.com

Ho many people who just put thier name on a list are named co-chairs of the group.

Independent my ass.

Still whining, Bowa?

www.drudge.com

Sorry Bowa, you are right. He is gay and former military, so he must be lying.
Nice to see you support our troops.
Maybe he is part of Hillary Rodham Clinton's National Military Veterans group, because he could not find a Repug group that supports gays in the military. He supports a Republican in his home district, and is registered independent, which means he can join Repug and democratic groups making him INDEPENDENT in thought.
We cannot have that, this is America, home of the sheep-the Repugs.

So is it safe to say that you "heart" Huckabee?

I love the picures of Cooper and Hillary on the front page of the Drudge report.

So is it safe to say that you "heart" Huckabee? - Mr. Fair

Absolutely not. I'd rather shoot myself in the foot than vote for huck. Interesting movie, though...

Sorry Bowa, you are right. He is gay and former military, so he must be lying.

Considering that he claimed to be an independent and yet is a vocal and public gay activist who has been working aggresively to get rid of the "don't ask, don't tell' policy and even appeared on CNN in 2003 -- I think he is now a proven liar.
www.cnn.com

Nothing wrong with that per se except that Kerr should have admitted that he was an activist up fron instead of misleading people into believing that he was just an independent who didn't have a dog in the hunt.

So yes, I would believe the stories and the Clinton campaign press relaease proclaiming Kerr a "" co-chairman of Hillary Rodham Clinton's National Military Veterans group." before I believe him

"Kerr told CNN that he had not done work for the Clinton campaign, and CNN verified before the debate that he had not contributed money to any candidate, the broadcaster said in a blog post after the debate.

Kerr told CNN he is a member of the Log Cabin Republicans and was representing no one other than himself, CNN said.

On Thursday, Clinton campaign spokesman Phil Singer said the retired general "is not a campaign employee and was not acting on behalf of the campaign."

A Nov. 11 press release retrieved from the website of the nonpartisan magazine Campaigns & Elections lists Kerr as one of nearly 50 co-chairs of "Veterans and Military Retirees for Hillary.""

www.politico.com

So..... he is one of 50 co-chairs.

They'd prolly let you be a co-chair, too, Bowa..... oh wait!

No Chickenhawks Need Apply.

Sorry.

So..... he is one of 50 co-chairs

Corky, the point is that Kerr misrepresented himself. he is not an independent. And the factual evidence bears that out.

An true independent is not the co-chair of part of Hilalry's campaign -- be it one of two co-chairs or one of a 100. And Kerr has been directly involved with Hillary, with Kerry and gay activism for years now -- the idea that he was an independent acting on his own behalf without any other agenda is laughable.

Whether or not Hillary's campaign is directly involved in getting him on the CNN debate remains to be seen -- but given their partisanship favoring Hillary -- it wouldn't surprise me if CNN knew about Kerr's connection to gay activism and the Hillary campaign but allowed him to go on anyway without any disclosure of his connections.

If he misrepresented himself, that is between him and CNN. I'm sure they never have to deal with that sort of thing!

Are you sure it wasn't Hillary herself dressed up as a gay old geezer?

My fav line of the night was Fred Thompson responding to Rudy's attack on Mitt by wondering aloud if Rudy should be the one questioning who other people decide to hire, lmao!

My fav line of the night was Fred Thompson responding to Rudy's attack on Mitt by wondering aloud if Rudy should be the one questioning who other people decide to hire, lmao!

I agree that was a great line by Fred -- as was hi ad -- maybe that is one reason why he has moved into 2nd behind Rudy in the national polls.

I was counting Fred out till last night and the new polling data that came out today.

Fred is McCain's back-up. They decided to pull Johnny Mc early on, even though it was his turn in the GOP.

But after trying to stuff round pegs like Rudy and Mitt into the square holes of the conservative GOP Platform, John or Fred don't look so bad anymore.

Rudy isn't really philosophically bound to any real core GOP principles, other than greed, but I like that he is at least intelligent and a bit of a policy wonk.

Mitt is even more of a wonk, also bright and attractive, but he never talked like that much of a Righty in Massachusetts!

Truth is, they all look like winners compared to the guy whose name was never once mentioned last night... you know, as Karl Rove said, "the Republican President",... whatziz name?

Taxes, guns, abortion, and gay marriage again? Geez !

Here's what the god of the modern Republican era did when faced with budget shortfalls:

"From the National Review (hardly a bastion of liberalism):

"...Reagan may have resisted calls for tax increases, but he ultimately supported them. In 1982 alone, he signed into law not one but two major tax increases. The Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act (TEFRA) raised taxes by $37.5 billion per year and the Highway Revenue Act raised the gasoline tax by another $3.3 billion.

According to a recent Treasury Department study, TEFRA alone raised taxes by almost 1 percent of the gross domestic product, making it the largest peacetime tax increase in American history. An increase of similar magnitude today would raise more than $100 billion per year.

In 1983, Reagan signed legislation raising the Social Security tax rate. This is a tax increase that lives with us still, since it initiated automatic increases in the taxable wage base. As a consequence, those with moderately high earnings see their payroll taxes rise every single year.

In 1984, Reagan signed another big tax increase in the Deficit Reduction Act. This raised taxes by $18 billion per year or 0.4 percent of GDP. A similar-sized tax increase today would be about $44 billion.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 raised taxes yet again. Even the Tax Reform Act of 1986, which was designed to be revenue-neutral, contained a net tax increase in its first 2 years. And the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987 raised taxes still more.

The year 1988 appears to be the only year of the Reagan presidency, other than the first, in which taxes were not raised legislatively. Of course, previous tax increases remained in effect. According to a table in the 1990 budget, the net effect of all these tax increases was to raise taxes by $164 billion in 1992, or 2.6 percent of GDP. This is equivalent to almost $300 billion in today's economy."

I agree that was a great line by Fred -- as was hi ad -- maybe that is one reason why he has moved into 2nd behind Rudy in the national polls.

Wow Lokiderflaninjacumgzzler!

What a choice!

One plays to fear, and one plays to stupidity!

Guess which one is which!

GO Repuds!!!

And to you too TPS--who would you like to see in the race running at the top two?

Murphy

"None of the above" Murphy. There is an enormous gulf between those that aspire to be political leaders and those that did in yesteryear.

I have wondered at times where did all the greatest of us go? I almost am beginning to believe Atlas Shrugged is an historical novel.

Regards,
etc.
