Face it, there will be no muslims, christians, jews, mormons or atheists in a Romney cabinet. Some cups and saucers maybe, but no people. God knows what's in his closet, though...

""Asked if that included the possibility of appointing a well-qualified Muslim, Romney said, "I'm open to having people of any faith and ethnic group but they would be selected based on their capacity and their capabilities and the values and skills that they could bring to the administration, but I don't choose people based on checking off a box."

"I think his comment is indicative of how he might govern, and I think it's absolutely wrong," said Sen. John McCain, one of Romney's rival's for the GOP presidential nomination, after being told that Romney said he would not appoint a Muslim to his cabinet."

Oh please. This is the most ridiculous argument in the history of the world. Neither one of them would be seen within one hundred yards of a Muslim, much less have a Muslim in their cabinet.
What a totally stupid and ridiculous argument.

"totally stupid and ridiculous"

The motto, worn with pride, by the GOP.

It is funny that Romney is the only Republican put it the dark light...probably because all the rest are already there and feel uncomfortable with him being so positive. The only thing in his closet is his clothes and it drives people crazy!

Get over his religion, he is a good man and will have to show down with Hillary so don't throw trash now when you will have to pick it up in the primary.

The only thing in his closet is his clothes and it drives people crazy!

When yer clothes include Magic Underwear it's kinda crazy in and of itself, no?

They're really tight!

And that aint the craziest thing they believe.

Romney may singlehandly bring back Dippity Doo hair goop. His Ronald Reagan hair impression is spot on.

Hey AU,

I just watched the vid e o I ' m l auging rea ll y haaaaaaaaard!!!

Spud's favorite is the one where John goes door to door in Salt Lake City preaching the virtues of athiesm.

Couldn't find it on Break.com where it used to be.

Funny funny shit!!

Found this one tho.

Black dude totally pwns a coupla LDS boyeeZ on bikes.

This is, in a nutshell, why Mitt aint gonna be the GOPher candidate no matter how much of his own cash he spends.

You're the best (surviving) potato I've ever had the pleasue of running across. If you ever run across trouble with a pot of boiling water and a masher I got your back... er ...side......s (I don't know how to tell the back from the front on a potato)

The only other one that I came even close to knowing ran into a band of savage Indians on the warpath and got scalloped.

If you ever run across trouble with a pot of boiling water and a masher I got your back... er ...side

Ta fer the kind words, AU.

In truth, Spud can only be killed by a potato masher made outta red kryptonite.

Silver Bullets only tickle Spud!

How to tell front from back on a Potato?

Eyes on the front of Spud's head, on the sides and, of course, in the back does make it kinda difficult. Luckily, Spud is usually wear a li'l red plastic baseball cap and always wears it correctly with brim facing outward from the front so there's a big clue right there.

If a hot potato woman walks by Spud's line of sight it becomes even more obvious, embarrasingly so at times. ^_^

Woo Hoo!

That guy OWNED those two hapless young Mormon boys!! Thanks for posting it. I don't think they sell XXXXL Mormon underpants either. That would have also been a problem, no?

I tell you the one about the guy who invited two Jehovah Witnesses in?

Sits 'em down and gets 'em a cold drink and says, "What'd you boys wanna talk about?"

The two young men look at each other with a deer in the headlights look and one says, "We don't know. We never gotten this far before."

PS FF fer "got scalloped"

Yer incorrigible.

Spud blames the blog-god, of course, fer being a bad influence on us all, wot with the sneaky headline humor and all.

We never gotten this far before."

Spud had a JW come around one day, years ago.

After a few convos wif Spud she was closer to coming around to Spud's point of view than vice versa.

So they sent a guy next time and he told me she'd "moved".

Spud just shut the door in his face.

I feel like I've done 300 situps I've been laughing so hard. My dog looked at me to make sure I wasn't dying. I have him trained to dial 911 and speak RELP!! REND RELP!!!

You have that hot potato cutie pinned up on your bin door? That's enough to make any white-meated potato heat up for sure.

If you sing, 'I only have eyes for you', do you have to be specific as to how many?

On the "OWNED" video:

One of my best friends is from Germany. Lived here decades. His dad and mom (who speak no English were visiting. Gerd took off for a few hours and when he got back there was a 12" stack of Watchtowers and other various unsundry JW materials on the coffee table. His dad, who didn't have a clue who or what they were, told Gerd (in German) "These really nice boys came by. There were here about 2 hours. I just nodded my head and they did all the talking. Then they got on their knees so I did too. Then they left'

Magic underwear? Nothing is magic. If you think what we believe is "crazy" I would love to hear you talk about how not-crazy Catholicism is. What we think should be odd to man, God's ways are not man's ways. That is all I will say to keep you from looking and acting more foolish.

The other funny story about Gerd's dad is that at 85 years old he still likes to walk 2 miles a day. So, Gerd put a note in his pocket with their address and a little map in case he got lost.

5 times in a row, people stopped thinking an elderly man needed a ride. They drove him back to the house and he started over. Finally gave up after the 5th time.

EWENDELS

At one time I was curious. When I wasn't allowed to go to certain functions I never went back. What's so mysterious that Mormonism keeps so secret? Don't you want the world to know? It's that secretiveness that makes the rest of us dubious. Another thing is women not being allowed to be bishops or hold high office. This is the 21st century. Perhaps if the Mormon church was like any other church in the world, with perhaps the exception of Rentaria, people wouldn't be so sceptical.

I'm sorry if you were offended. But, I can walk into any Catholic church in the world and even take communion if I feel like it. I"m not Catholic. Mormonism is so little and perhaps misunderstood because so much is kept from view?

So the underpants video struck me as funny. The black guy made sense to me. What do you need another book for if you're Christian? What's wrong with the Bible that's served as the text for Christianity for centuries? Do you have Bibles in your church? Do you use them? Curious.

Now, having said that, I don't want a president who practices a faith that is so closed to the public. It's a scary proposition. Can you understand that? I'm not making fun, just telling you my view.

Again, I'm sorry if you were offended. Sure didn't mean to.

EWENDELS

Here's another thing I'm curious about...

You've been a member of Drudge since July and yet you've only posted a few times - about Romney? Can you explain why? Appearances say you're fishing for Romney votes or to be a proponent and have little interest or reason to be on this blog otherwise. Curious again....

Hey Ewe,

I would love to hear you talk about how not-crazy Catholicism is.

Spud is athiest/ recovering Catholic so you'd really haf to go see Bill Donohuoe about that one.

Pope EggZ Benny XVI might have some idears too but he's kinda busy.

Wot? "Transubmutation" is perfectly logical and doesn't make all RC's members of a cannibal cult.

Actually, Spud real beef with the "modern" RC Church is it's continued insistence on unmarried priests, no woman priests, child sex scandals, its ridiculous & highly immoral stance on birth control and homosexuals.

Spud outgrew the RC Church morally at about age 16.

Where the LDS Church encourages moral behaviour Spud is applaud it where they encourage less than moral behaviour Spud is decry it.

Ability to take a joke and be able to laff at oneself is a good indicator of sanity and humility.

The inability of the Muslim world to develop a sense of humour w/i their doctrines illustrates this point rather nicely thinks Spud.

Sorry to offend ya. Not Spud's intention.

AU,

Luff the German tourist stories! Funny stuff!

Someone should tell this Idiot that there are much more Moslems in the United States than Mormans!!! Do you Repubs think that any of your candidates can stand the baring of there souls on a National level?? Doesn't look good so far does it??

Well, I have posted few times and that is simply because I am just getting into politics. I have had my head is science books for a long time and now have a job that allows me to learn a bit more about things that really matter...ie policy. Being LDS and having a co-member in the running for the office has got me more interested. I do think he is goofy and he probably does use dippidy do but I know his morals and believe that they have been lacking in our government system.
We have no secrets; argue with that if you want. Anyone can get online and see into every room in our temples and what goes on...etc. There are no secrets. There are things we hold sacred, just as in OT times not everyone could go into the tabernacle, even women. It has nothing to do with what century we live in, precepts and principle are timeless, which means women will not be Bishops even 200 years from now. It has nothing to do with inferiority, just as we (men) lack the ability to create life doesn't make us inferior...we need each other and we each have our role.
We are not like any other church and will never be. We do have the Bible and I read mine very often, but with the Bible alone there are over 1,000 churches and no 2 completely agree on doctrine, even amongst the same sect. All truth is circumscribed into one whole. If they all were completely true they would be one church and not 1,000. The Book of Mormon is another testament. The Bible is a recording of prophets in Israel and The BofM is a recording of prophets in America, the descendants of the modern Indians. Proof is often asked for at the last point and there is plenty, but proof never satisfies...ask Judas. But if you want some;

www.the-book-of-mormon.com

I don't get offended, if I wasn't a member I would think it was weird too.

Try investigating the theological claims regarding any religion and the explanations that are given as attempts are made to reconcile the church doctrines with the observed world.

Even the Catholic Church, which benefits from the Apostolic Succession, has acknowledgedly has in that succession a number of Popes who were murderers in their quest for power, had bastard children in their quest for pleasure, etc.

Even St. Augustine supported prostitution, and at one time the Church ran brothels to support the institution. The elevation of the Virgin Mary and the rise of mariology have an interesting history. And what of the elevation of asceticism to a virture. What of the belief in transubstantiation. What intervention is sought when the rosary beads are counted. Caricatures can be used to ridicule any religious group. Give it a break.

As to the "secrets" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), how anyone can claim that that organization which openly recruits members through its evangelical program sending young "mssionaries" out into the field for two years to recruit new members, keeps secrets is oxymoronic. I'm certain that just about anyone can join the Church and participate in its rituals, and share in its "secrets." The locations are open, and the invitations are continuing.

"Someone should tell this Idiot that there are much more Moslems in the United States than Mormans!!! Do you Repubs think that any of your candidates can stand the baring of there souls on a National level?? Doesn't look good so far does it??"

There are ~5,000,000 Mormons in the US, how many Muslims?
And read what he said before you get all jumpy.

"His question was did I need to have a Muslim in my Cabinet to be able to confront radical jihad and would it be important to have a Muslim in my Cabinet," said Romney, "and I said, 'No I don't think you need to have a Muslim in the Cabinet to take on radical jihad any more than during the second world war we needed to have a Japanese American to help us understand the threat that was coming from Japan.

"The people who would be part of my cabinet is something that I really haven't given a lot of thought to at this point, but I don't have boxes I check off as to their ethnicity ... instead I would choose people based upon their merits and their capabilities," he added.

I just wanted to say that I think the vast LSD genealogy research facilities in Salt Lake City your church makes available to everyone is a wonderful contribution to all Americans. I'm very interested in genealogy -- wish I had the time to research it more -- and would one day love to visit the genealogy libraries and reference rooms the church has in SLC.

Mr. Romney is probably the brightest of the candidates, he's businesslike, not given to rages, and has been both an excellent executive and a good administrator.

How does his "experience" compare to that of a psychologically abused wife, who accompanied her spouse on ceremonial trips, or a two year U.S. Senator?

I think that Mr. Romney stands head and shoulders above the other candidates of both parties. He is a giant among pygmies.

Chris,
Your posts always get me thinking. There are always more than 2 sides to every point and your side gets those synapses firing. Geneology is cool, if you want I can get you my grandma's email and she can get you going. he he heee

Peace in the middle east

EWENDELS

Thanks for taking the time to follow up. Every Mormon I've known and do know has great moral character. No argument there. Also, I've known many people who've benefited from the generousity of the Mormon church. As Chris mentioned about the geneology, I've also used it.

I appreciate your tone in responding to me. You could have been like Johnson usually is and be a real asshole (pardon my French), but you weren't. My respect and thanks to you for that.

The problem Romney is going to have is that most Christians view the Mormon church as secretive, cultish, and clannish. That's gonna be a hard one to overcome.

Yes the Catholic Church did a lot of horrible things over the centuries in the name of God. Hasn't God's name been the source of most of the bloodshed in human history? Crusades, Holy Wars, Jihad, you name it. But, western religion finally quit burning people at the stake and slowly gotten civilized. Arguing over what God's intent is still is a divisive gorge in western society as well as Muslim society. Shame.

Anyway, thank you so much for being so nice after I laughed at something you hold dear. The idea of 19th century underwear just made me laugh. It was not my intention to offend anyone. What are the odds someone from the LDS church comes to a thread for the 8th time or so ever on this blog? Glad you did though. You were a good ambassador.

AU :-)

who accompanied her spouse on ceremonial trips, or a two year U.S. Senator?

JOHNSON

Let's see. Hillary won her second term last year. Privy to national security briefings, and a plethora of birds eye experince watching a President in operation, travelling to and meeting with the leaders of 80 nations.

Obama? 12 years of legislative experience, a kind and giving background, a Harvard Law degree which he used helping people, taking a $13,000 a year job after graduating from an Ive League school helping a community action agency in a area hard hit by plant closures. Smart and principled. More experience than Lincoln had, and older than Kennedy was.

Johnson, it's a good thing you didn't spout your religious affiliation. I'd never darken the door if they turn out cold hearted asshole like you.

EWENDEL

One more question. Don't you think the Democratic Party's principals of helping those who need it, caring about average and less fortunate people, etc. is much more in line with Christianity and Mormon principals than the Republican principles of 'personal responsibility' - which in essence means 'you're on your own. Don't count on any help from us"?

principals=principles

Lets see if Romney has any real balls and say he will fill the position with the best person even if it means the person is an atheist. Religion should not be part of the political process. Believing in fairies should not be a prerequisite for governing.

the best person even if it means the person is an atheist.
thats an oxymoron.

AU, I'll take on your last question - Harry Reed actually said something along similar lines about how it's way easier to be a Mormon and a Democrat since they hold similar values on helping poor, etc. I think where the schism comes is that other values (such as abortion, same sex marriage) are not supported by the LDS church or many other churches for that matter. Because these days it seems like the latter issues are more "important" (they're not, but it seems that way with all the press they always get) and define the Democrat Party (again, they don't) most religious people automatically say they're with the side that doesn't support these beliefs.

Another explanation is that the LDS Church does an amazing job with welfare and helping the poor. Arguable, they do a better job with helping people off the church welfare rolls (with viable jobs and income) than the gov't does. I know I'd rather have my money go to the most efficient, equitable oraganization and in this case the LDS church does the best hands down. Hence the reason lots of Mormons are fiscally conservative - it's not that we don't care about the poor, it's that gov't just doesn't seem to do as good a job as the church does sometimes. Anyways, that's just a few of the reasons Mormons are generally Republican.

PS thanks for the "Good luck" the other night on the project!

Too bad he's denying it... A promise like that might have swayed my vote.

SHHHHHH!!!! You're not allowed to mention Barak Hussein Obama's full name... FUCK!!! Now you've got me doing it!

BARTIMUS

Thanks for your response. I hope your project went well :-)

I for one will be greatly relieved when American politics isn't centered on abortion and gay marriage - two areas that are personal decisions and hardly the most important issues facing America.

For too many years, candidates have been judged on their stances on these two limited issues while the greater issues facing us seem to take a back seat in importance on the right side of the aisle.

Helping poor and middle income American citizens holds much broader answers than the typical 'handouts' typically focused on by those in opposition to 'handouts'. Predatory lending practices, skyrocketing college tuition, and a whole list that have nothing to do with 'welfare handouts' are things the government has a role in in ensuring an equal playing field.

As an example, in the previous Congressional term, the GOP leadership passed laws that raised interest rates on college loans and cut grant money. Tuitions at public universities have skyrocketed at much more than the rate of inflation. Education is the key to opportunity and a level playing field.

Helping poor and low income Americans involves more than giving them food or a job. It's ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to rise to their potential. Abortion and gay marriage are issues that affect a small percentage of our population but IMO consume far too large a percentage of the focus in presidential races and Supreme Court appointments. We have a lot on our plate to consider than two 'moral issues' when selecting a president wouldn't you agree?

Au, i agree w/ you that certain issues are the sole focus of the media. Why is it that the left has a litmus test regarding abortion? Since it should at the end of the day be a state issue? And if you think college tuition loan interest rates are a major issue well...? That is not a federal issue. Also, what should we do to help the poor? Citizens of this country have been giving for over 30 years. Just like there is a small percentage maybe even 1% of Muslims think jihad against infidels is acceptable, there will be certain % of the population who make bad decisions or in some way contribute to their economic short comings.

And if you think college tuition loan interest rates are a major issue well...? That is not a federal issue.

They are guaranteed in the same manner an FHA loan is. The interest rates charged on student loans are regulated so as not to be usery - by federal law.

My point is that this is not a crisis that the federal gov't should focus it's resources on. What do you think about the fact that certain democrats demand answers regarding abortion from judicial nominees? What about the fact that a certain % of the population are not willing to do what it takes to be productive economically?

DALTON

I don't think abortion should be a litmus test on either side. And especially not such a central focus.

So you disagree w/ how the democrats have handled previous judicial nominees? What are your thoughts regarding the % of the population that lacks the will to provide for their loved ones? Should the gov't help all people regardless of their desire or will to help themselves?
