Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

The top three Democratic presidential contenders remain locked in a close battle in Iowa, with Sen. Barack Obama drawing support from 30 percent of likely Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa, compared with 26 percent for Clinton and 22 percent for former senator John Edwards. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson received 11 percent. The results are only marginally different from a Post-ABC poll in late July, but in a state likely to set the tone for the rest of the nominating process, there are significant signs of progress for Obama -- and harbingers of concern for Clinton.

As has been pointed out many times before - its a state-by-state race and the national polls don't really mean much.

The tide begins to turn...

Until this asshole starts putting his hand over his heard durring the Pledge of Alligence I won't give him the sweat off my balls, let alone a concideration to run for President of the Unites States.

"Until this asshole starts putting his hand over his heard durring the Pledge of Alligence I won't give him the sweat off my balls,"

I'm sure he's crushed.

I guess accusing the opposition of dirty tricks without having any evidence works, eh?

Must be the "new politics of hope".

Scroll down about 2/3 on the page - 2 photos of Obama with his hand over his heart during the National Anthem.

I'll put 2112 in the Obama column now.

"I guess accusing the opposition of dirty tricks without having any evidence works, eh?"

Yeah, that's what did it Cork.

"I guess accusing the opposition of dirty tricks without having any evidence works, eh?"

Or the inablilty to take a stand on an issue.

Or maybe it was this...

"A growing focus on fresh ideas coupled with lingering doubts about Hillary Clinton's honesty and forthrightness are keeping the Democratic presidential contest close in Iowa, with Barack Obama in particular mounting a strong race against the national front-runner." ABC News

-I guess accusing the opposition of dirty tricks without having any evidence works, eh?

We aren't suggesting that that did not happen, are we?

The real story in Iowa is John Edwards being in third place when he has campaigned there for the last four years.

Of course, last time he was a moderate Southerner and this time he is an angry leftist, but I guess he hoped Iowans wouldn't notice the difference.

Iowa is one of two states to have never elected a woman to any high office at all. The Clinton campaign never thought to make a real fight of it there, Bubba never did, until they got so far ahead everywhere else.

It is a must win for Edwards or he is out. Obama needs momentum to have a chance in NH and SC, and it would be a near knock-out punch for Clinton.

Pollsters say America is hungry for real change.

Since Rudy's turning NeoCon all of the sudden, and Romney is Reagan Lite after all his flipflops (and his stolen Reagan hairdo), I wouldn't doubt Obama is the nominee and the winner. Maybe America's ready for a man who's articulate, principled, and tells it like it is. Who hasn't changed positions with the wind. (Bush: "I'm a unitor" "I will not commit U.S. Forces without a clear exit strategy", "I do not belive the role of the U.S. Military should be 'Nation Building" etc)

Of course, if Sen. Clinton wins we also get the man who left America in good shape before Boy George got his hands on it and did to it what he's done to every other business he's ever touched.

"The Clinton campaign never thought to make a real fight of it there,"

Really? But isn't this your very own post?

"Clinton Increases Effort in Iowa

Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign is sending 100 or more new staffers into Iowa, hoping to take a win from rivals Barack Obama and John Edwards.

The decision of Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign to send 100 or more new staffers into Iowa demonstrates that she and her aides have determined to their own satisfaction that she can cripple Barack Obama in the first-in-the-nation caucus.

Actually you wouldn't. Hillary would not come close to releasing the reigns.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

CORKY

"Of course, if Sen. Clinton wins we also get the man who left America in good shape..."

I think that is a premise that has helped her build a national lead. I also think it is a false premise.

This is a different time and place for America and there are no guarantees that what worked for Bill in the '90's will work again. She needs to sink or swin on her own merits - none of the twofer stuff.

I know much of the country longs for those days, but the expression "you can't go home again" seems apt to me.

Plus it's not like Bill is going to tag along with her to every meeting she goes to.

RIDE ON

I almost thought you were doing your John Wayne impressiion

Lose the last 'w' there and I think you've got it down pilgram.

PIRATE and SANANTON

Of course not. But, his advice would be a real plus. Also, playing a role restoring relations with the world at large would be a big plus. He isn't allowed by law to serve in the cabinet as Sec State, but let's be honest, the man is brilliant. He's read more books this month than George Bush has read his entire life. Bill's up on almost everything.

"Also, playing a role restoring relations with the world at large would be a big plus."

Agreed! He would be a tremendous asset there. I betcha he'd do it for an Obama administration too. He does love the limelight!

SANANTON

Limelight aside, we need someone to do it. Our image is in tatters.

I've had friends of mine overseas say that if they didn't know me they wouldn't talk to me. Something like, "we can understand America making a mistake. But REPEATING it and reelecting that idiot did it for us".

Is that why the US has a great relationship with the UK, France and germany for the first time in well over 15 years?

"Is that why the US has a great relationship with the UK, France and germany for the first time in well over 15 years?"

Wrong. We currently have a good relationship with the LEADERS of those 3 countries. Ask the people how they feel.

Over 15 years? Wrong again. Clinton had very cordial relations with all 3 countries. Plus the people of those countries, and most others had a much higher positive opinion of America and Americans.

You're talking out your ass about the last 15 years. Our relations with all of them were just fine until we invaded Iraq. France and Germany didn't think it was a good idea. They were right. So was Cheney until he stood to gain hundreds of billions and play Goldfinger.

I'm talking public opinion in those countries. Brits aren't swimmingly happy they got suckered into Iraq either. In case you haven't noticed, GB is down to 2500 troops now. We surged replacing all those who left.

The more telling aspects of the poll seem to have been glossed over, particularly this bit

"She appears more vulnerable on questions of character. Thirty-one percent found Obama to be the most honest and trustworthy, about double the percentage who said the same of Clinton. While about three-quarters credited both Obama and Edwards with speaking their mind on issues, only 50 percent said Clinton is willing enough to say what she really thinks. Forty-five percent said she is not sufficiently candid."

Only 15% of those polled throught that Clinton was "honest and trustworthy" that is very telling. Further Obama scores big on the "second choice" question

8. (IF NAMED CANDIDATE) Who would your second choice be?
NET LEANED VOTE:

Also despite Corky's assertion that Clinton had already written off Iowa that is not the way they see it:

Hillary Clinton 34 30
Barack Obama 26 22

Very interesting poll.

(last post to BOWA)

You morons need to listen to Bowa. Like Rudy, he has oodles of foreign policy experience. Remember, he not only has a Beckhem poster on his bedroom wall but once saw a copy of "Punch," can sing "Deutschland uber Alles" while repeating lines from the "Katzenjammer Kids," and is positively gaga over "Astrix" and profiteroles. Indeed, he shed a tear when he heard of Marcel Marceau's demise, while sipping a Bass Ale and scarfing down some knockwurst.

PS: 9/11

LITLEBRIT

Where'd you come up with YOUR 15% 'honest and trustworthy' number? You and BOWA seem to pull '15' out of your hats.... Perhaps you're psychic and foretelling Bush's approval rating next year this time LOL

Is that why the US has a great relationship with the UK, France and germany for the first time in well over 15 years?

Bowa is wearing Blinkers.

Again

"Is that why the US has a great relationship with the UK, France and germany for the first time in well over 15 years?"

Could there be anyone more delusional than "Bowa"???

Good grief, he actually believes what he writes!

Here you go Bowa:

From Pew Global "Favorable Opinion of the U.S."

At the End of Clinton Administration vs. End of 2006

Britain 83 - 56
France 62 - 39
Germany 75 - 37
Indonesia 75 - 30
Turkey 52 - 12
Japan 77 - 63

To cite a few examples. I'd call that a piss-poor record.

Great post S.A.

But you must remember:

With "Bowa", it's always going to be party before reality.

Good grief. Get your facts straight, at least. The issue was whether to put your hand on your heart for the SONG "God Bless America" (or some other piece of pseudo-patriotric drivel) , NOT for the pledge.

Sounds like your friends are pricks. Do you hold them in the same kind of disdain if their country elects a right-winger? In fact, isn't Europe the home continent of Marxism, fascism, and communism--the leaders of which enjoyed continuous re-election?

I have some great friends from Cuba, others from Venezuena, still more from Middle Eastern countries. I'm able to separate the politics of their home countries from the individuals themselves. Sounds like your European "friends" should be glad we don't apply the same standard to them that they do to others.

AU - click the link and look at the poll, the number is right there - sheesh how hard is that?

I said , "until they got so far ahead everywhere else." which was a couple of months ago when they increased their effort in Iowa.

You didn't have a link on your post and still don't.

Facts are facts. Iowa is one of only two states that has never elected a woman to any high office.

But then, facts have never gotten in the way of your "thinking".

LITTLEBRIT

I read the article yesterday, and did again just now. I don't see a thing about 'honest and trustworthy' in the entire article (your 15% number for Clinton)

So, now I have to ask what YOU had for breakfast... LOL

Oh, and FYI

I had Muselix with bananas, a piece of multigrain toast with apple butter, about 12 oz of orange juice, and 3 cups of Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee from beans I ground before brewing.

Freakin FF ...still laughin'.

RisR,

Good point.

Unfortunately it is still true in this country that Dems are taking a chance nominating either a woman or a black because of residual sexism and/or racism in this country.

You can see both just here on the Ol' DR.

Well. Well. Didn't "the polls" show that although Mr. Obama had gained ground in the caucuses, Ms Hillary still retained a large lead in support by the voters of the state?

Anyway, was the slimeball columnist Novak, correct? Is there a scandal bomb? Aside from Mr. Obama being engaged in serial homosexual bestiality, or having concluded a pact with the Iranain President to sell out the United States in the name of Allah, and either event or both events having been recorded on videotape, and even then subject to being dismissed as PhotoShop type alterations, I wonder what the scandal bomb might be?

Rumors of Ms Hillary being involved in lesbianism, abound. Both Mr. Obama and Mr. Edwards seem soft and effeminate. But would allegations of homosexuality actually hurt the candidacy of any of these contenders for the Democrat nomination.

The teaser is out there.

What kind of scandal could compromise a Democrat candidate?

Why some candidates have even been subject to unsubstantiated allegations of involvement in murders. What can besmirch the reputation of a Democrat among his constituencies?

-What kind of scandal could compromise a Democrat candidate?

Believing anything Bob Novak said?

"Rumors of Ms Hillary being involved in lesbianism"

And since her idol is Eleanor Roosevelt, who everyone knows was a BOBD, the rumors MUST be true!

Someone is just a little too titillated by rumors of same-sex shenanigans, methinks.

Which Dem is the Real Change Candidate?
By E. J. Dionne

www.realclearpolitics.com

pretty fair analysis

A 4 point lead in a poll with a 4 point margin of error.

Truly devastating.

Anyone here ever even caucused for a Dem candidate?

It's a 3 hour process in Iowa, not your casual voter's quick stop.

This particular caucus pits some older (wiser) voters for Clinton against some younger(more idealistic) voters for Obama.

Bill Schneider noted the other day that there is a college football game that night.....

"A 4 point lead in a poll with a 4 point margin of error.

Truly devastating."

And besides, Hillary isn't really trying that hard, and doesn't care anyway, right Cork? ;)

PS) AU - you said you read the article all the way through then you must have read this

"Thirty-one percent found Obama to be the most honest and trustworthy, about double the percentage who said the same of Clinton."

half of 31% is 15.5% I believe, but in fact the figure was exactly 15%.

Your breakfast sounds yummy by the way, I just can't seem to find good mueseli around here.

She IS trying hard in Iowa now, but they weren't before a few weeks ago.

Being far ahead nationally, getting the endorsement of a union that has 30K members in Iowa, and I think seeing how the media is playing up Iowa way beyond it's national importance were factors in deciding to ramp up in Iowa as they did really only a couple of weeks ago.

But the media is vested in making a close race of it so as to draw more ratings, so whoever is behind can count on lots of help.

LITTLEBRIT

OK Upon 3rd reading of article I found what you referred to.

Hillary Rodham Clinton ridiculed Democratic rival Barack Obama on Tuesday for his contention that living abroad as a child helped give him a better understanding of the foreign policy challenges facing the U.S.

Obama response...

"I was wondering which world leader told her that we needed to invade Iraq."

I wonder who told Obama to argue the surge last summer wouldn't work. Obama response: "The political side wasn't solved, the war didn't go perfectly as Bush had planned, and it's unpopular so I have to harp on it." Well not exactly but it's his motivation. Both are bad at foreign policy, the debate is so weak in that area.

well well well.......
on another thread where novack talked about dirt that hillary might have on obama, leftys here could do little more than spew garbage about novack.

and yesterday it was reported that obama has admitted to trying illegal drugs and alcohol at a school on the campaign trail........

HHHHHHHHMMMMMMMMMM a little premeptive crawfishing already, dont you think????????

Gosh...I feel soooooooo dissed.
I guess to some posters on DR... unless you are a lefty lib that considers THE Kos, Media Matters and The Huff Post the source ....well you are just spewing , you have no merit, and no original values.
