Drudge Retort: Red Meat for Yellow Dogs

Federal agents raided the headquarters of a group that produces gold, silver and copper Liberty Dollar coins, some featuring the face of Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, on the grounds they are illegal currency. The group, the National Organization for the Repeal of the Federal Reserve Act and the Internal Revenue Code, is not affiliated with Paul.

The theory is that he was arrested for illegal currency. Yet Liberty Dollar has been selling species backed currency for 9 years.

Interesting little twist, the mint says that they are legal to own.

No one will comment on why von NotHaus was arrested.

If convicted of wrong doing RP will have to return the 2300 Liberty Dollars donated to his campaign.

Now I'm not a conspiracy nut but things that make you go hmmm...

More reason to vote Paul.

The currency version of California's magic ounce?

Someone else posted this on a different blog but I found it interesting and wanted to share -

Private money is Private money - pure and simple - Even ABC's parent company Walt Disney makes it.

If you go to Walt Disney World you can exchange US Dollars for Disney Dollars on 1:1 Ratio

All Walt Disney World Resort shops and restaurants take Disney Dollars as a form of cash. Disney Dollars are available for a one-to-one exchange for U.S. dollars at the Disney Store nearest your home and at ticket booths, Guest Relations and Resort Guest Services locations at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Below is a list of currencies here in the USA. Some are called "hours' some are called "Blue Money", "Cape Anne Dollars".

Out of the list below they went after the "Liberty Dollar". It might be just me but it is probably to shed a negative light on Congressman Paul's campaign.

No Ron Paul fan, but since when is creating OBVIOUSLY fake coins against the law?

Have you ever seen those franklin mint commercials?

Act now, limit 5 coins per caller!

It sounds like the republicans eating one of their own. The dems do it too, but we're talking about this thread.

The Federal Reserve is scared to death. The cat is out of the bag and we know their secret. They don't have any legit argument for why they should exist, so they do the next best thing, start arresting people.

RP 2008!!!

Seems like a targeted raid designed to cast doubt on Paul, by far the best Republican candidate in the field in my view.

Wouldn't a Paul/Obama third party ticket be interesting if they both lose the nomination? Straight talk about what the real problems facing America are, followed by pragmatic, real solutions. Couple that with a bipartisan ticket that could bring us together again, restore our faith in the Executive Branch, and lead us in the right direction where we can once again look forward with a new hope we haven't had in 30 years.

There's something about both of them that appeal to people like me. Paul reminds me of Harry Truman, and Obama reminds me of Bobby Kennedy. They both tell it straight without sugar coating. They were both true public servants, like Paul and Obama, who were in politics for all the right reasons.

More reason to vote Paul.

LOL yes....

I have not seen the Liberty dollar yet but I'm assuming it's an ounce of pure gold. How the government can claim that sort of thing being illegal doesn't make any sense to me. All gold is currency on some level, does it make a real difference if it's stamped to look like something from the mint?

If I approach a local contractor with say, 10 ounces of melted down gold in the form of a cube or 10 ounces of Liberty dollars, what difference does it make? The local contractor would appraise both at the same value (maybe slightly more for the liberty dollar for collectible purpose but.)

Are they saying that all gold is illegal?

Paul/Obama - I like it but it wont happen, it only makes sense in theory.

I like a Paul/Kucinich independant run better, but I would be happy with Paul/Obama. It would never happen, though. I'm not sure the white house has ever seen the kind of honesty you'd be getting from either of those tickets.

In today's world of big entertainment, big business media, it is way too easy for the dishonest people in Washington to spin anything someone like Paul has to say. This illegal money business seems like a cheap shot at Paul to me. I think I agree that the Fed must be a little concerned. Maybe not so much that Paul is going to win, but that this revolution is only going to get bigger by 2012 as those who are too young now come of age to vote. I'm not saying that the young are necessarily more likely to support Paul's ideas, but those who support Paul's ideas I believe are more likely to vote, and since the young tend not to vote, that leaves a good amount of the younger generations vote in favor of the Ron Paul Republican candidate of 2012 (assuming there is one). I hope this revolution can survive that long.

Glenn Beck Deems Ron Paul "Domestic Threat"

Kurt Nimmo
TruthNews
November 14, 2007

Hired propagandist and corporate media shill, Glenn Beck, had Jonathan Sandys, great-grandson of Winston Churchill, and the neocon and former Marxist David Horowitz on his show to attack Ron Paul, or more accurately the "fringe elements" that support Paul.

Horowitz, typically mired in the 1960s, completely mischaracterized the underlying dynamic of the movement, drawing anachronous comparisons between antiwar radicals of the so-called "New Left" back in the day with Muslims and the diversified antiwar movement of today. Horowitz, with his Marxist conditioning, insisted on lumping these two elements together and for obvious reasons -- demonizing Paul supporters becomes an easier, albeit intellectually lazy and disingenuous effort.

Beck fine tuned Horowitz's mischaracterization. "Let me take it back the other way, David," he averred, "it's not just the Left this time, it's also the Right. Ron Paul's supporters are also on the Right." Horowitz agreed and specifically attacked Lew Rockwell, declaring the Libertarians as "indistinguishable from the anti-American Left these days" and insisting they are "totally in bed with the Islamo-fascists," in other words they are terrorists.

Jonathan Sandys lamented the loss of "traditional values," that is to say it is no longer quite so easy to bamboozle the public and march them off to war, as our rulers are accustomed.

Beck concluded his segment by declaring the "Ron Paul Revolution" is "meant as a catchy slogan, but I fear some of his fringe supporters are taking the word revolution' to literally," sort of like the founders took the word literally and acted upon it. Beck and his corporate handlers are concerned because, indeed, the Ron Paul Revolution is far more than a simple slogan and Paul supporters fully intend to clean out the corporate infested whorehouse in the District of Criminals and return America to a nation based on constitutional principles.

"As the Ron Paul movement grew, it was inevitable that the neocons would turn from demeaning to smearing," writes Lew Rockwell on the LRC blog. "One clownish and sinister example was Glenn Beck's CNN show last night."

Beck actually said that the US military may have to be used against the growing threat of domestic terrorism: Ron Paul donors. Why? Because there is a "rising tide of disenfranchisement" (sic) and Ron's volunteers raised $4.3 million in one day "to commemorate Guy Fawkes" in a "money bomb." Of course, no American knows anything about the English Catholic rebel of four centuries ago. The donors were referencing the movie and graphic novel, V for Vendetta.

Then Beck says he [is] a libertarian in his heart and it's OK to raise money anyway you want, so long as you are not "blowing people up." This from a guy who advocates blowing people up every day, so long as they're Arabs.

Then comes a plummy Brit who I think is one of Bertie Wooster's friends from the Drones Club. Then Beck gets to the real point: we are a right-wing peace movement. And being for peace means you want to kill people, whereas being for war means you want peace, if I may distill the agitprop.

It should be obvious by now that there is indeed a concerted effort to go after the "fringe element," that is to say patriotic Americans who want to put an end to endless neocon wars advocated by the likes of washed-up Marxists and former Trotskyites--or as the patriotic American, Paul Craig Roberts, calls them, "the Jacobins in the Bush administration"--and return America to a constitutional republic.

In the weeks ahead, we should expect more such scurrilous attacks.

Paul/Obama - I like it but it wont happen, it only makes sense in theory.

Or Paul/Kuchinich?

have you actually read any of their platforms? Other than a similar anti-war stance, Paul is totally opposite of the positions held by the other two.

Cheney is closer to the two Dems than Paul on everything other than Iraq.

Northguy - Thats why I said it would only make sense in theory, not in practicality. You are correct that the only thing they would agree on is the war, and on Paul and Kucinich on that. Paul is even more opposed to the war than Obama.

A mixed ticket would harken back to the old days of the Vice President being the guy that came in second - such as Jefferson/Madison days.

Absolutely. This "raid" is quite obviously a "terrorist" activity. Reminds me of the continual raids on legal medical marijuana centers - regardless how "legal" you are the Feds are able to pull strings, terrorize and destroy a business, livelihoods of all "kinds" (pun), as well as harming those already in medical need. The Feds are unfeeling, illegal and unAmerican. Why don't they teach about the Federal Reserve nonsense in highschools? Perhaps an educated decision would embarrass the Republican stranglehold? What stops the "al Qa'ida terrorists" from dismantling the Reserve or at least blow up the building? It must be protected by a magic bubble.. but not for much longer.

Perhaps someone should take an ad out on Craigslist for "terrorist demolition crews to fight the Federal Reserve while having a tailgating party" - just like they did on 9/11.

Great argument. I'm concerned that Ron Paul's handlers won't allow him to address any of this prior to the election now that their spook is on. Goodness, I hope that I'm wrong.
