Perhaps you misplaced your reading glasses so I'll give you the facts contained in the article.

The headline referred to ONE of three soldiers charged. Staff Sgt. Hensley soldier was convicted neither of pre-meditated murder nor of actual murder of those three Iraqis for the simple fact that he never shot them. Hensely is also a sniper so I think that even if he had done the killings it would not be because some "warning shots" went astray as you noted in your tongue-in-cheek narrative.

The other soldier (of the three) who WAS CONVICTED by the military of pre-meditated murder of those Iraqis will pay with time in jail for the killings. Perhaps you wanted all three soldiers tried and convicted of murder even though the murders were actually committed by only one of them?

These three soldiers will be punished by the military for their respective parts in the crime of murder so I guess as you noted in your post -- although you did not write it with the same intent --

The terrible thing about this situation is that these men have been so intimidated by inane "rules of engagement" that they thought it necessary to protect themselves by rearranging the scene.

This retrospective oversight inhibits the response of our men in the field, and the hesitation has most probably contributed to deaths of Americans in the field.

That this accusation initiated by a leftist Time employee based on a concoction by an Iraqi Time photographer, also a sympathizer and supporter of the terrorists, and was escalated to this point is a scathing indictment of our military and politicians who are imposing unrealistic restrictions on our troops.

I'd like to see Congressman Murtha in the dock himself and a government not tolerant of any of his possible violations. Nor mercy for Mr. Earmarks.
