The US military has painted its most upbeat assessment yet of security in the Iraqi capital, claiming it has forced the most extreme of the insurgent groups, Al-Qaida in Mesopotamia, out of every neighbourhood in Baghdad, and has cut the number of murders by 80%.

What? No snide comments?

Al-Qaida in Mesopotamia?

What'd they do? Decide if they added Mesopotamia instead of Iraq people would just drop the qualifier, and Bush/Cheney could still claim it's plain old garden variety Al Qaeda?

Good. Mission Accomplished. Now get them out of there!

Whilst that may be factually acurate, there's no doubt they went there to fight the "Great Satan".....and the "Great Satan" kicked their ass...

al queda is gone? Awsome.. time to bring the troops home, let the iraqi's work things out, things are safe now. Thats all we want right? Sounds good, bring the troops home, our mission is finished.

If you disagree with what I just wrote then you truly hate america, and in fact you have probably committed treason against this nation in the past... may God send your soul to the firey pits of hell to burn for eternity.

"No snide comments...."

I've got several. How many men, exactly, were in al-Qaeda in Baghdad?

Did we spend anything less than five million per terrorist to get them gone?

Does the Mahdi Army still have up to 200,000 members, and when is Bush going after them?

Was it getting rid of al-Qaeda that cut the number of murders, or the fact ethnic cleansing already ran it's course?

The world is as it is and not how you want it to be. You forgot that, so you pretend to fight wars rather than fight them.

"The US has been providing arms to milita groups to fight the jihadists...."

Those would be private armies wholly distinct from legitimate government? Yep.

Now we can spend a few decades disarming them. What-a-joke.

The Islamic Army is fighting al-Qaeda in Baghdad. This appears comprised of Baathists and Saddam Hussein loyalists.

No need to be snide when the irony is so thick.

They're not in Baghdad because they're at malls in L.A. & Chicago xmas shopping!!

Well there was only 1000-1800 in the entire country in the first place. Good now let the Government get to work.

You gotta be shittin me. There were training camps for them in Iraq.

Well there was only 1000-1800 in the entire country in the first place.

Really? That's news to me. I thought that our presence in Iraq was supposed to have helped al-qaedas recruiting efforts a thousand fold.

Guess that was all just a liberal lie.

"You gotta be shittin me. There were training camps for them in Iraq."

And the pathetic attempts at historical revision continue...

... and fail.

Mission Accomplished. Okay... there it has been said... now everyone get back to work so the war on terra can continue.

Really? That's news to me. I thought that our presence in Iraq was supposed to have helped al-qaedas recruiting efforts a thousand fold. That is the problem with you righty tightys... you are stuck on the idea that the war on terra is in Iraq. It never was. The thousand fold increase in coming from our allies the Arabs... Pakistanis... and others... and we are financing the venture at the gas pump. Bush-ling has created this self sustaining entity. You rightwingnutfucks are thick and a brick and dumb as dirt.

The surge who said the surge wouldn't work, who said this war was like Vietnam? Without facts, the citics try and cast doubt about kicking Bin Laden's clan out of the Iraqi capital. It's hard to say to what degree of success, but a little hype against the enemy doesn't hurt. Bin Laden is certainly not happy about it as he hasn't been making videos on how he's winning the war, he is already changing some of the war tactics to the global warming scare...lol...

The politics of Iraq is troublesome because if a particular group doesn't get their way, they just quit. For the sake of the future of their own country, and I'm sorry to say this, but they should stop acting like a bunch a babies who can't get their candy and go back to their government posts to help run the country. If they want more power than sway the majority of the population to vote for them!

Really? Before the war? and in territory controlled by Saddam?

I'd be interested to see that information. (Hint- statements by Bush/Cheney on this subject prior to the war carry no weight)

Do you miss Uncle Saddam Boyd?

There were Al-Qaeda training camps in Iraq before the war. They were in the north and they were used to train Kurds against Saddam.

I rejoice in the fact that some Iraqis are showing their intelligence by realizing that Al-Qaeda in Iraq is more dangerous to them than the Americans. But that will last only until there are no more Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Then they will realize that the Americans brought Al-Qaeda there in the first place and we will be back in the insurgent business. There is no way the American military are astute enough to take advantage of this temporary alliance even if their totally numb leadership were to allow them to.

It also shows that Al-Qaeda is no more intelligent in their social planning than we are.
