As Republican White House hopefuls tout endorsements from faith leaders, the once-powerful Christian Coalition of America will bypass the presidential primary contests entirely, the head of the South Carolina-based group said Thursday.

"We're going to be focusing on congressional races," president Roberta Combs told the Associated Press by telephone. "I think it's more important that we focus on the congressional races and getting more conservatives in office because that's who makes the laws that govern our land."

Interesting. Is the CC really relevant anymore? And if it is, what impact does the message they seem to be sending have?

U. S. C. GOOOO COCKS!!!

Cheers,
Walt

San, I don't really think they are relevant anymore. After all, what presidential candidates do you see saying, "Well crap, the CC isn't endorsing me, I'd better try to woo them a little more!"

With the steep decline of membership and all the other problems they've been having, they just don't rate as a big contender for rallying support for the candidates any more. As the article mentions, there are many other Christian groups the candidates seem to be more interested in than the Christian Coalition.

Hallelujah!

The CC still caries weight in several areas. Though Pat has no official role in it anymore, I guess it has virtually endorsed Giuliani via Pat.

If a Fundamentalist Jones could endorse a Mormon, I don't see why an Evangelical cannot endorse Giuliani.

Both the above trends shows that Conservative Christians are willing to be flexible this time around when it boils down to the matter of electability --- that is, even in the absence of high enthusiasm, their dislike for liberal Democrats or their desperation to beat a perceived 'Democrat' enemy may drag their feet to the polls.

Who do the Romans endorse?

www.youtube.com

Those Christians who want no abortion and no homosexuality no matter what will vote Republican no matter what. Some of them probably even think that the Republicans can actually deliver those to them, others that the Republicans will at least not be as bad as Democrats. Nevertheless they'll all vote Republican when push comes to shove.

It's up to the rest of us to vote the other way because we have seen what having a President and members of Congress who used such people to get elected have done to our country. Help the GOP and the Christian movement clean house and take back their party and their religion by voting against the extremists in their midst. If they suffer the massive defeat that they deserve it will help them return to the principles of Jesus and not combine some perversion of his teachings with their political beliefs.

Maybe the faithful will go back to simply letting their religious beliefs inform their political decisions, and not having their political decisions being dictated to them from the pulpit.

All the whining from the Christian Right about a "war on Christianity" is just reaping the whirlwind. Most clergy know that getting their churches involved in politics just opens them up to partisan attacks. If you take your church into the political arena, you'll get treated like everyone else there.

Separation of Church and State is as much for the protection of the Church as it is for the State

I heard Romney slip in some little comment about overturning Roe v Wade.

That's all it took.

The so-called "moral majority" started wringing their hands and salivating at the prospect and VOILA, Romney's their man.

De ja vu.

Slow learners, aren't they.

If anyone gets their support, most seem like they will flee to a different candidate anyways. To me the coalition is not an organization whose values I support. I think they stoop to unethical means to push their agenda

Interesting. Is the CC really relevant anymore?

Nope. What have I been saying for 10 months now. 2008 is the time for us GOP moderates to finally get out from under the thumb of the religious conservatives.
