A Chinese satellite successfully entered lunar orbit Monday, a month after rival Japan put its own probe into orbit around the moon, but Chinese officials denied there was any competition between the two nations.

PHOTO GALLERY OF CHINA'S "CHANG'E 1 SATELLITE

Here is a short youtube clip of the path the Chang'e 1 will take in space.

CHANG'E 1

AU --

I know you'll show up on this thread sooner or later --

last night on the History Channel they showed a one hour documentary of different Moon landings. It was a pretty good show. I would have posted it on here but you weren't on DR at the time and by then the show was almost half over. Plus, was shown in California (PST) so it was probably already over where you live. If I see that the documentary is coming on again in the future I'll let you know.

yah, so what,

a week from now we'll be hungry to do it again.

Thanks CHRIS :-)

America to China:

"Been there....done that"

AU I agree with your statement. Plus, in BBob's world a rocket has been there for milleniums anyway. So we must suck hind tit too. But, ya know a hind tit is better than no tit at all.

Seems to be a deep instinct in human beings for making everything compulsory that is forbidden.

You fell for that Chi-comm propoganda? Here is a real photo of the satellite:

"Been there done that"

Nice attitude, will you feel the same way when they are landing people on Mars and mining resources on the moon? How about the potential for asymmetric warfare from space, Thor, GPS and the like.....

A complacent attitude will leave us far behind against non-democratic entities in the world.

Just for fun, read the book:

Slapstick

by Kurt Vonnegut sometime. It's a quick read, and makes a point, albeit through a very silly way.

Cheers....

And we continue to waste money on the "International" space station.

I disagree entirely. It has not only National Security issues. Maybe someday there will be manufacturing up in space to make the Perfect spherical ball bearings that will never wear out. I find the International Space Station vital.

And we continue to waste money on the "International" space station.

Just as Ferdinand and Isabela wasted money on the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria.

The day that mankind stops exploring new frontiers is the day we die.

So we must suck hind tit too. But, ya know a hind tit is better than no tit at all.

RIDE ON

LOL Using that analogy, we're the great grandmother of moon programs versus China. Our tits are down around our ankles LOL

Hold on, hold on..........

The satellite has been recalled because it contains lead.

FFFFFFFFFFFFF Flag SULLY !!

Thanks for the laugh!!!

Maybe the US has "been there and done that" almost forty years ago, but, a. so what? and, b. could they do it now? Probably not. Not unless they borrow the money for it from CHINA.

"could they do it now? Probably not"

Hey!
We've killed more spacefarers than any other country!

Sounds like Nero is tuning his violin.

Scroll down a bit on that linked site and there is a far more interesting "circumlunar" photo gallery:

dumpling,

is not!

(*holy fuck as I roll my eyes*)

didn't we do that about 40 years ago?

Yes, apparently. Folks should not be concerned with the actual event as they should be with the rapidly diminishing tech gap between china and your country. In one corner, you've got an economy that is exploding, in the other one that is imploding... Fast forward 10-15 years...

Or how about the Islamic World to the West concerning Algebra:

"Been there, Done that"

Who is in charge now?

"didn't we do that about 40 years ago?"

Snipe -- the problem is that we probably couldn't pull it off today.

I don't really buy that. Perhaps with consideration too our political situation is what you base that on. But by all technical considerations we could do this easy. And in the deserts of mojave it will probably be done, and not by the government.

I also don't buy that closing technical gap argument. There may be truth to that simply based on the fact that we haven't had signigant advances in this world as was the case in the last century and that inevitably all those who are not US are starting to catch up, but this century is still new.

Lastly, quite frankly even in the last 10 years we've made huge gains in this field. The fleet of unmanned probes we've sent out, and the experience gained from fielding these things has been a huge boost to our understanding of how spacecraft work that other countries simply don't have. Sadly.. these missions to the great beyond don't seem to generate as much press lately as china sending dullard probes around easy targets.

Right now speeding toward one of the farthest planets in our solar system is a probe equipped with a freaking "ion engine"... Do we need to have warpdrive before were happy with our lead against China? I could go on and on with our achievments here, but I really think its overwhelming.

What truly worries me in this respect, is the low low number of people aspiring to be engineers of the non-electrical variety, and scientists we have in this country. We as a country to some degree focus too much on getting a job, and not so much on seeking our dreams. Too focused on normality, and not respectfull enough of eccentricity.

You'r probaly right. The bureacrats would mess it all up and we would end up with a journy to the center of the earth.

So what It's ours, by Russian standards, cause we planted flags there in the 60's.

the problem is that we probably couldn't pull it off today.

What are you talking about, do you think this is more significant than our recent missions to Mars?

" recent missions to Mars "

I think "ongoing" might be a better word.
Those damn rovers just keep going, and going ...

TWO MARS YEARS!!
