Nice score, Green Goddess.

Congrats and have fun!

Mike Farrell fuggin' RAWKS out loud!

Excellent call! Oh sweet bundle o' Leafy Goodness!

Mike has used his celebrity as political capitol and he has not squandered it.

Spud just went to youtube and searched fer Mike Farrell.

Spud found
This!

Mike sez he wants his country back.

Hard to disagree with his logic.

Also ...how do you say no to a "BJ"?

And yes, Spud knows he's going to hell fer that last joke.

Spud'll be there with bells on, as they say.

FREEDOM!!

Go tell it on the mountain, sister!

...and then try selling it to the fools who still watch FOX and then imagine that they are watching something other than corporate propaganda.

They need to hear it too!

Again, sweet score on the interview!

Be Well.

PS: Kinda stupid question here but Spud is wonder if Mike is familiar with the episode of the Simpsons where some Irish Lass declares passionately...

"That Mike Farrell ...he really boils my potatoes"

Cos Spud does.

Spud digs a good tater reference does Spud!

As I said before, I'm looking forward to this one, Trees. Definitely going to be a great show. I strongly encourage everyone here (regardless of where they land on the political spectrum) to tune in.

Thank you guys!

I am definitely looking forward to this interview. After reading his book I have a thousand and one questions, but I won't hog all the time. ;)

Spuddish one, thanks for the link...

I want my country back!

We've been wanting our country back for the better part of 35 years. Upon reading his book I was struck by the parallels that can so easily be drawn between the rabid anti-communist (which incidentally the Regan Administration called anti-terrorism) sentiment in the 70's and 80's to the anti-"islamofascist" sentiment today.

I think many of us would do well to read up on the United State's involvement with Central and South American politics during the 80's. It might change how we view our present involvement in the middle east.

I hope you all tune in tonight at 7PM Central. It should be a great hour.

Tell Mike his buddy George Ryan is going to the pokey.

CONCERN is a good organization and also where I first heard about the Plumpynut anti-starvation program. They have saved a lot of lives.

I'll be tuning in!

Tell Mike his buddy George Ryan is going to the pokey.

Jcash - How is Mike involved with Ryan?

...Plumpynut anti-starvation program

Is good program.

They have saved a lot of lives

Strewth! Bless 'em fer that!

Be Well.

Jcash - How is Mike involved with Ryan?

Apparently, in J's mind, since both oppose capital punishment, they must be best buds.

Farrell is a great "get", Trees. Congrats. I'll be listening.

Jcash - How is Mike involved with Ryan?

Mike Farrell supports Ryan's 2000 moratorium on the Death Penalty in Illinois (you know the one that garnered Ryan a Nobel Peace Prize nomination)

Mike Farrell presumably does not support the corruption scandal which (rightfully in Spud's mind) he is now headed to the hoosecow for.

Until the inherently unfair Injustice System is fixed so that innocent (mostly poor) folk get send to prison while guilty (mostly rich) folk get off or get a suspended sentnce or re-hab in lieu of jail time the moratorium should stay in place.

Spud is anti-death penalty guy, btw.

Be Well.

ohdang!

i think lettuce is on sale at the piggly wiggly at that exact time...dratz...

does it count that my stepson hangs around with gary burghoff's son?

yeah, yeah, yeah - whoop-de-doo!

I think RCADE forgot to set his clock back to Standard time.

Well then I guess you'll be too busy bagging the groceries to tune in.

"Mike Farrell fuggin' RAWKS out loud!"

I realize that saying something "rocks out loud" is just a way of voicing approval for something in the current vernacular popular amongst sorority chicks, but something about that sentence just doesn't seem right. He seems like a good enough guy and all, but he's definitely more Starland Vocal Band than he is AC/DC/

Sully sends off a sky-rocket in flight!

He seems like a good enough guy and all, but he's definitely more Starland Vocal Band than he is AC/DC

Spud considered the phrase "soft rawks out loud" but ultimately didn't go fer it. Yes, in most cases Liberals are not as exciting as their right wing counter parts. Wot with their insistance on truth and all. Most right wing "personalities" tend to do a Lucy Van Pelt and "Be wrong at the top of their lungs" rather than be right.

Spud was speaking more of MF's content rather than his volume level.

Also the fact that this is a good get fer Tree's show.

Glad to hear you think that Spud is "popular amongst sorority chicks".

That is a demographic that Spud is interested in targetting ya know.

Be Well.

"Yes, in most cases Liberals are not as exciting as their right wing counter parts."

Anyone whose personality is crafted around a label such as "liberal" or "conservative" tends to be interesting at times, in small doses, but ultimately very boring and predictable over the long run.

Agreed that Farrell is an interesting guest. Although he's the type who you love when you find yourself agreeing with his stance on one issue but who comes across as an arrogant holier-than-thou type when you find yourself disagreeing on another.

Mike is an icon/idol in the civilized world of folks who still retain ideals, like peace, justice and a sustainable environment. I'm surprised the DR's righties are not wetting their panties as we speak. herm

I have seen Mike Farrell on the Oreilly Factor twice and he comes across and a nice and very well spoken person. He is not the average liberal. He doesnt yell and scream, he doesnt talk over other people, he doesnt call names if you disagree with him. Like I said, not the average liberal.

Why should they wet their panties? Mike Farrell seems like a reasonable and sane debater. Know how I can tell? He wasn't afraid to go on the O'Reilly show more than once and make his point and not allow Bill to make him lose his cool. He compares very favorably with others out there.

Well then, the two of you should definitely tune in. We've been told by Mike that he will take calls, so if you have a question, or if you want to debate something, by all means, call in. From the look of this thread (and the various other places tonight's show is being promoted), the phone lines may be a bit on fire this evening.

I really really wish I could hear this... but my computer is in pieces at the moment damnit! I'll have to catch this on the archives then.

But, if there's any possibility, I would like Mr Farrell to answer a question:

Cake or Pie?
Or was it Chocolate or Vanilla?

I'm sorry, I'm trying to be funny and it just isn't working *sob*.

Hope this show goes well, gang. Talk at you later.

Let,

If you can get the call-in number, call in. You will at least be able to hear some of the show.

See this is what is different between Conservatives and Liberals. Conservatives believe in the cookie cutter approach. They feel that everyone should think the same way and behave the same way. Why do You think there are more Conservative Radio Talk Shows out there?? It's not to stay informed that is for damned sure. It is the Indocternation Process. They need their daily Programming. Unlike Liberals who have Open Minds and Open Hearts.

Larry - what do Liberals listen to?

Well I listen to MUSIC that is what I listen to.

Larry Mohr

Larry - what do Liberals listen to?

I'm not Larry, nor can I speak for any other liberal, but, if given a choice (which I tend not to have too much of where I live) I listen to classic rock.

In terms of getting news, I hit the web and go to about a dozen different sites.

Conservatives believe in the cookie cutter approach.

When it comes to policy, you've got it backwards. It's liberals that want enormous, one-size fits all, cookie-cutter entitlement programs for every perceived societal-ill under the sun. Conservatives lean toward tackling problems at a local level because every area and every person is unique.

They feel that everyone should think the same way and behave the same way.

Uh huh. Those open-minded liberals are the ones shouting down conservative speakers at various universities.

Why do You think there are more Conservative Radio Talk Shows out there??

Lots of reasons - the biggest (IMO) is that much of the rest of the media is perceived to be biased left and thus a natural market exists for a counter-punch, which conservative talk provides.

It is the Indocternation Process. They need their daily Programming.

The fact that you actually believe that indicates that you are a victim of Leftwing indoctrination and daily programming.

How ironic.

The ONE thing I miss about living in Clarksville Tennessee is the The Rock on 105.9 That station was awesome when I lived there. Is it still around RevDarko??

Larry Mohr

Larry,

It is, though I'm not overly fond of some of their programming decisions. For example, I'm not sure I can call Def Leppard classic rock without throwing up a little in my mouth.

Are you guys saying that Liberals don't listen to politics on the radio?

"Those open-minded liberals are the ones shouting down conservative speakers at various universities."

Might want to run that by Juan Cole and Erwin Chemerinsky.

They weren't shouted down, they were denied tenure and a position as dean, respectively.

Time to get your feet off the floor, the shit is really rolling now.

Open minds and open hearts, now that is fucking funny

"Well there ya go hans. You can name every lefty on a lefty site and therefor you must be correct."

Of course I am correct.

Therefore, you are wrong.

Hans

Larry, Rev, et al: I listen to that Classic Rock stuff too. We have a station called "The Drive" that's pretty good - on weekends they do actual album sides like back in the day!

But I also keep winding up on NPR for All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Marketplace, Prairie Home Companion, BBC World Service, and then jazz at night, etc etc. And I'm not even a Lefty! Please tell me SOME of you Left guys listen to this stuff SOME of the time?

I even listen to Ira Glass, for as long as I can stand his annoying delivery, because the stories are sometimes really interesting.

"But I also keep winding up on NPR for All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Marketplace, Prairie Home Companion, BBC World Service, and then jazz at night, etc etc."

Except for the addition of the excellent and thought-provoking programming available on the
Free World Radio Network, that pretty much describes my listening habits.

Don't, I repeat DON'T disturb his safe little world here. Plus, NEVER EVER mispell a word as that would not be decent.....otherwise, he'd have nothing to correct.

"Plus, NEVER EVER mispell a word as that would not be decent....."

The essence of the self-retorting retort.

And to think that they willingly volunteer this!

As we discussed long ago, all we really have here are our words.

LOL, it never fails. The puppet master pulls the string and Hans dances. Let's see how long the baffoon dances! This is too precious already. While most have already caught on, it will be fun to watch Hans follow the hand of the puppet master again.

Ha! Spud is just catch Mike Farrell on Headline News channel in his capacity as president of Death Penalty Focus It just ended a little bit ago.

Mike handled himself and the topic very well not allowing himself to taken off point or over-ridden or caught w/o an answer.

Tells Spud he's had a li'l experience with this interviewing thing.

Topic Du Jour was of course the death penalty with the sub topic being the recent Pepperdine study that alleges a "deterence factor" to the Death penalty. Background context in terms of the issue of course includes the re-newed interest in the debate allegedly engendered by the recent cop-killer caught in Fla.

Mike made his points with great clarity.

A) The Pepperdine deterence factor study is an anomoly in the sea of studies that show no clear deterence connection.

B) Countries like Canada which have eliminated the death penalty entirely actually saw murder rates go down after the law was invoked.

(Woo Hoo! Shout out to the Great White North!)

C) Study after study indicates that the majority of folk on death row are poor and/or minorities indicating systemic inequalities in the justice system.

D) The Innocence Project was invoked.

Now the ass-wipe wot Mike was debating declared the Innocence Projects numbers to be bogus but wouldn't elaborate.

The moderator guy sed to Mike "The Death penalty deters one at a time"

Mike sed "Yeah, innocent or not"

Quick on his feet is MF thinks Spud.

Adler and Summers from Pepperdine also recently posted an op-ed piece in the latest jewel in Rupert Murdochs crown the Wall Street Journal

The argument as far as Spud can follow is that if the DP is truly a deterrent (Spud don't think it is, btw) then getting someone off of death row is not saving a life but is in fact jeopordising other lives, maybe dozens!

BULLSHIT sez Spud.

Talk about yer fuzzy math!

Asides when the state murders it lowers itself to the level of the criminal and that doesn't help matters at all.

And when the state murders an innocent man that makes it even worse.

Oops! Show' on.

Spud'll shut up and listen.

Be Well.

Real funny Alex....but, my bet is you saw where Hans did his dance. You are smart enough to have caught it.

I'll write you back with my email, etc. and we can yack about Detwah and all that stuff.....

I thought you at least got it Zat when you linked to urbandictionary. But, since you are dataless perhaps you are just in awe of someone that can do links and spelling corrections. Surely you see the setup that Hans couldn't resist. YOU caught
B A FFOON (and damn you it was just another place Hans could have touted his intellect if only you had let it go). Afterall, he couldn't resist MI S PELL even as I told him he'd have nothing to do if there wasn't a "MI S PELL" for him to catch so he could gleefully show his "superiority". The puppet master pulled his string and like a good little puppet he performed (and right on cue). ROFLMAO.

AU, I sent an email to that address last night....it didn't show up?

I didn't check. Will do so now. I thought you'd crashed by the time I posted it.

I have seen Mike Farrell on the Oreilly Factor twice and he comes across and a nice and very well spoken person. He is not the average liberal. He doesnt yell and scream, he doesnt talk over other people, he doesnt call names if you disagree with him. Like I said, not the average liberal.

Humorous that you claim liberals yell and scream in the same sentence that you mention the conservative who screams "pinhead" at anyone who disagrees with him. I guess you've never heard of Michael Weiner (Savage) either.

I agree and he usually debates with some reason and respect for the other side and all of that...
and to those of you who bring up savage as a screamer...yeah you are right....but on the average its the lib who is rude and loud and tries to keep the other side from even talking.....check it out sometime and you will see I am right....

farrell is someone who the left could use to thier advantage if they werent so in love with a couple of the other actors....garafallo and penn and assholes like that........

but on the average its the lib who is rude and loud and tries to keep the other side from even talking.....check it out sometime and you will see I am right....

I disagree with you, BL2. Personally, I see that both sides have their loud, obnoxious mouth-pieces and they seem to be pretty evenly balanced in terms of number. I think the difference is that when one is on one side of the political spectrum (in your case, the right), then they will take more notice of the loudmouths on the other side.

I will agree with you 100% on Mike Farrell, though. He is a truly reasonable and well thought-out person who is polite and cordial, even if you disagree with him. I think people on BOTH sides would do well to follow his lead in terms of how he comports himself in a debate.

sorry rev, but I disagree with you on the loud part..

watch show after show after show....and you will hear the dem do all of the loud talking......but you know....that is a pretty silly argument anyway, dont you think........who yells the most.....

I never miss the panel on fox news sunday and if you on this site would all watch that you would see debating on tv the way they all should..

brit will take on the two leftys and they will come right back at him.....brit and juan and some great arguments and they never raise thier voice and you NEVER get the idea that they are pissed at each other....

and then krystol and juan will go at it.......and again.....you NEVER get the idea that they are pissed...........because they always are respectfull of the other and they dont yell or the like even though they do get excited......

that is a pretty silly argument anyway, dont you think........who yells the most.....

This is something I will agree with you on every time.

Off topic, but related to the show from last night:

The word Akashic is sandskrit meaning aether or sky.

Or as the ancients would say - Akashic: where the rubber meets the sky.

I like Mr. Farrell--although I dont agree with all of his opinions. He is reasoned and articulate.

I will say he is consistent on his view of the death penalty and abortion.

He is for ALL life--so he said on O'Reilly.

That is very unusual for someone charaterized as a liberal.

Murphy

No, you are just ignorant of liberal values.

I would say that it is right wingers who do most of the name calling and deflecting on DR. Few(none) can wage an honest debate with direct answers. Most(all) of them think the more names they can call the more they are winning the "debate". Then they blame the other person for name calling and deflecting.

BB says, "I would say that it is right wingers who do most of the name calling and deflecting on DR."

Too funny! The volume is Leftwing/Democratic ... and you know it!

"Few(none) can wage an honest debate with direct answers."

Those that do so discuss reasonably are the most reviled on this site! You leftist subversives don't like the heat generated by your own desires to lose a war to terrorism, so your party can win a victory domestically!

Anyone who notices the tacit treason being performed by you and your ilk is INSTANTLY called a troll, among other efforts to dehumanize them like they were a bunch of German Jews in the latter '30s ...

This site is a POGROM against conservatism and where the neo-nazis of the left gather to revile their partisan opponents ...

"Most(all) of them think the more names they can call the more they are winning the "debate". Then they blame the other person for name calling and deflecting."

I've said, from the start, that I'm here to characterize you liars, in just the same way you've been demonizing conservative since 2000, and before. You just can't take it when it is explained and supported by demonstrations from your own ilk: just like Alex is doing calling me a NIG!

Why don't you explain to me why that really means kanigit and not ka-NIG-it, huh?

People still talk to Tadowe. Have we learned NOTHING in our years on this planet?

He is for ALL life--so he said on O'Reilly.

That is very unusual for someone charaterized as a liberal.

No one is for ALL life. Not those who like to eat anyway. Everytime you eat, something dies, so don't go on about ALL life unless you are willing to stop killing to live.

Hint: Even plants are alive.

I need to know the name of any liberal/radical treehugging peacenik who yells and screams. Just one.

I'm also curious about a capital punishment "deterrence study". I presume that the rightie Pepperdine proves beyond a doubt that people who are executed are deterred from doing it again. herm

"He is for ALL life--so he said on O'Reilly. That is very unusual for someone charaterized as a liberal."

I presume Murphy refers to Mike's stance in favor of reproductive rights, regurgitating the rightie myth that fetuses are people.

Has anyone noticed that 82.33 percent of spelling and syntactical errors in the DR are perpetrated by righties? herm

"regurgitating the rightie myth that fetuses are people."

I'm not a "righty" and I'm not against most abortions.

But "fetus" can refer to a fully formed human inside the womb that could survive on the outside.

There is nothing magic that happens during delivery that turns a "fetus" into "human".

Something to keep in mind.

Hint: Even plants are alive.

Thanx fer noticing, BBob!

The word Akashic is sandskrit meaning aether or sky.

Ta Rev Darko fer that info.

Saved Spud a google there.

Spud notes yer affinity fer Ds there, Reverend 2D, but FYI, you don't really need one to spell
Sanskrit

Sorry, Spud aint normally a spell checker type.

Ooh, more madness from Tad!

He's an unstoppable fount, it seems.

This site is a POGROM against conservatism and where the neo-nazis of the left gather to revile their partisan opponents ...

Sed Sir Tadley the Addlepated in an effort to "prove" that it's the left who are more loud and obnoxious than the right in their dabating.

Spud laffed anyway.

Be Well.

But "fetus" can refer to a fully formed human inside the womb that could survive on the outside.

Spud calls a viable baby still in the womb "an unborn baby".

That sed, the instances of women aborting unborn babies purely fer convenience sake are few and far between. Mostly that's a strawman argument used by the religious right in an attempt to bolster their side of this argument.

Sommat to think about.

Be Well.

MF has a great deal to say and that he does. On any "cause celebre'.

I find it refreshing when a totally new face pops up.

In his own way, different but, he reminds me of two others that in their way, appear for every cause they can. That duo being Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Mike, don't (as it seems) "work the circuit" that dilutes your message. You soon appear to just be seaking a "photo op".

Dethspud says, "He's an unstoppable fount, it seems."

Look, I just wanted to let him know that I didn't believe you would kill me. After all, it was just careless of you to link Black with hyphenating Ka-nig-it.

Wow! Your apologists went wild! "Black Knight, black knight, you idiot!"

Of course, you cleverly misspelled "knight" and made it "kanigit" like the site that has the burning flames to roast bucks with, eh? That was a good out for the juxtapositioning of Black and the NIG part.

You Canadians know how to set-up a careless use of the "N" word, or does serendipity leads you around by the nose ....?

Pai chak wao babababol

That sed, the instances of women aborting unborn babies purely fer convenience sake are few and far between

We would have to agree on the definition of "convenience sake" in order for that to be valid.

"That sed, the instances of women aborting unborn babies purely fer convenience sake are few and far between."

Regardless of how rare it is, it is still wrong.

"Mostly that's a strawman argument used by the religious right in an attempt to bolster their side of this argument."

People who take absolute positions on either side of the fence are prone to lie.

People who take absolute positions on either side of the fence are prone to lie.

Does Spud believe this?

Absolutely!

Well, Spud does believe in "absolute zero"

Cos Spud has met him! Speaking of the Devil...

Sir Taddlepated, the Black Kanigget sed...

You Canadians know how to set-up a careless use of the "N" word,...

Actually, it was a set-up.

It was also a very deliberate attempt at humour.

A joke that you continue to fail to get.

A fact that makes this conversation all the funnier fer the spuddish one.

Ta fer the giggles there, Chucklehead!

Now yer prolly gonna tell Spud that you get to "count coup" twice.

That'd make sense to Spud who's always considered you as more than a little "coup-coup"

Ha! Spud is crack hisself up with that last one.

All due apologies!

Be Well.

"There are no absolutes!"

We're out of vodka again?

Damn!

Maybe some aquavit.... no offense, Tater!

-more than a little "coup-coup"

hahahaha!! bad Tater!

Regardless of how rare it is, it is still wrong

Do ya hear Spud disagreeing with you on this point?

Ya don't cos ya won't.

Be Well.

PS: to Tad: Not to beat a dead horse any further but you do know where the "Great White North" reference comes from don't you?

Or are you a total
hoser, eh?

Yer attempts to portray Spud as some kinda racist creep by presenting yerself as a gentlemen of "African Heritage" who had been dissed by Spud the White Supremist or sommat were totally loathsome as well as being totally incorrect.

There are no absolutes!"

We're out of vodka again?

A potato gave his life so that we all may get horribly drunk!

Let us give thanx and praise!

hahahaha!! bad Tater!

Ha! Agreed! Deth is Baaadboy Spud!

Heartily ashamed of hisself is Spud fer that last one.

The shit-eatin' grin on Spud's face?

Ummm, that's just a facial tic! ...Honest!! ^_^

Be Well.

Careful there Spud, Tad is the fleshy headed mutant in the forbidden zone.
