Child workers, some as young as 10, have been found working in a Delhi, India, textile factory in conditions close to slavery to produce clothes that appear destined for Gap Kids.

The idea that these American Company's don't have any idea that these working conditions exist is not to be believed. The situation going on in India an China today has as it's model the American of 125 years ago, if you love the Republician platform you'll love this Asian model. No Unions, right to work laws no Goverment involvement in enviromental restrictions, yea If the Repubs have there way we too can have those conditions return...."SHAMEFUL", but our kids look good and it "CHEAP".......

It was your god CLINTON who signed NAFTA, dumbass, to launch us into wholsale globalization. Both Republicans and Democlowns are beholden to their corporate donors.

Get a clue, Celery

Rightwingers fought child labor laws in this country when they were established and continue to support the idea of rampant crony capitalism and social Darwinism today.

Getting rid of the Dept of Education and deregulating existing worker protections and destroying social nets in this country is still their goal.

Vermin had a clue once, but he traded it for a calculator.

Fall into the Gap (tm)

You mean the increasing Gap between the hyper rich and burgeoning numbers of poor?

Wot Chomsky refers to as the "properous few and the restless many"?

Check and check.

Children around the world are falling into this black hole of greed and corporate corruption on an increasing basis.

Spud caught the CEO of the Gap offering up the standard speech on the "unacceptability" of the situation onna tube this A.M.

Clap.

Clap.

Clap.

Spud gave her the dreaded slow clap.

Huzzah!

Be Well.

PS: Yup, that were Spud, grumpy despite massive infusions of fresh caffeine, entering the fabled demense of the blog-god, the Drudge Retort, in the proscribed manner,
stage left.

Why do the powers that be want us to have low priced clothing and high priced housing?

Kids helping kids multinational corporation style.

They do a pretty good job too. Once the water dries up, it really won't matter will it? There will be no living child slaves left to exploit. Every year from this point forward will get worse

Typical of big business......

Has anyone taken into consideration how much water is sitting on store and warehouse shelves?
There's a BUNCH of it there. By relying so heavily on buying it in bottle form-the aquires are being drained to fill the bottles.
Go back to Municipally treated water-

Child Labor huh?
That's our righties-bringing you the same "Conservative Values" they've espoused for the last ten thousand years.

....the aquires are being drained....

Make that "Aquifers"......

Well, some of you lefties can support "better wages" by buying more expensive clothes from vendors, who pay labor more for the same garments.

Or you can go to your local Goodwill Store and buy recycled clothes so you can put "The Gap" and other "exploiters" out of business.

Then these children can stop cluttering up this world as they'll be without wages and wherewithal and die of starvation. They are doing this work because it's the best means of securing a livelihood available to them.

The compassion that pervades America is confined to America. Go abroad and observe how the people in those regions treat those of lower socio-economic status. They are indeed untermenschen.

Boycott "The Gap." Starve a young worker to death.

They are doing this work because it's the best means of securing a livelihood available to them.
I guess they're too ugly to be child prostitutes and too sick to be harvested for organs, eh Johnson?
They should be grateful, or just die and quit bothering us. Mighty Christian of you.

It'd be satanic to suggest that stores like The Gap or companies like Nike double the pittance they pay their offshore workers, cause making 25 cents less on a $150 pair of shoes would cripple them.

Let the free market decide!

Isn't that what all you repo's and libertarians say? The free market will sort it out! What bullshit!

Vernon's up the thread, telling us it's Clintons fault, "cause he signed NAFTA". What bullshit!

Johnson thinks there's no problem with it. "They are doing this work because it's the best means of securing a livelihood available to them."

That's because a few free market capitalists are too greedy to provide a better livelihood, and you're more concerned about cheap products then you are about human beings that you never see. What bullshit!

Democrats bloviate about how terrible this is, but do little about it. Republicans worship at the zippers of their corporate sponsors, and actually enable the profiteers. All most of us will do here is argue about whose fault it is, and still look for the cheapest shit.

We can all be better than this! It's getting pretty damned old!

Boycott "The Gap." Starve a young worker to death.

Bullshit! Find out which companies that are doing this, instead of ignoring the dirty little secret. Boycott them all. Force the countries that are allowing this to enforce labor laws. Your cheap shit might not be as cheap, but the young worker WILL NOT starve.

Free market is fine, as long as we're all playing by the same rules. Until human rights are the same across the planet we're not playing by the same rules. We should not be working out free trade agreements until other countries are ready to treat their workers with decency. While corporations control the politicians nothing is going to change. The corporations don't care.

Damn the exploited children, full profits ahead!

Fuck clothes. Just go nude.

I can't wait until we have open borders. Would you like some cheese with your whine?

Well, some of you lefties can support "better wages" by buying more expensive clothes from vendors, who pay labor more for the same garments.

Except that even the more expensive clothes don't pay more for labor. The top brands are made in sweatshops too. You can't support better wages by just paying more.
Do you think Gap clothes are cheap?

Target.com has boy's jeans from $13.99 to $19.99
Gap.com has boy's jeans from $19.50 to $39.50.

Now if you go to Gap and pay $20 more for a pair of jeans, you'd think that the workers would get a fair share of that extra $20. You'd think that would be enough money to not need child slave labor.

But all Gap does is take the extra $20 and pocket it, and hire the child labor anyway.
