The Bush administration has imposed the harshest economic sanctions on Iran since its 1979 revolution and the subsequent U.S. embassy hostage crisis.

Yup no arms for you from the US Arms industry ...AGAIN

What exactly is it that Iran is accused of?

Being Signature and in full compliance with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, unlike Israel, India, Pakistan, North Korea, Libya and South Africa?

Or standing in the way of US domination of the region?

Cheney knows that any attack on Iran will magnify the the destabilization in the Middle East just as he understood the consequences of invading Iraq. But it will raise oil prices further, so he doesn't give a shit how many people have to be killed or maimed to send profits and bonuses skyward.

I really can't think of anything else?

This will just drive them further into the open waiting arms of China and Russia.

Bush's foreign policy is pure idiocy.

Policy towards Iran should be international and based on negotiations with Iran and all concerned powers. At the U.N.

Too bad Reagan died. Or George H Bush isn't in office. The ayatollahs would all be riding in F-22s. Of course, whatever we give our allies the Iraqis will just end up in Tehran anyways, so...
btw, was watching the Iranians on CNN-were those M-16s they were carrying? Saint Ronnie, you devil you!

I love how all the loonies on the left have been screaming "sanctions and containment worked with Saddam", yet when the evil Bush Empire does the same thing with Iran, everyone is pulling their hair, gnashing their teeth, and running in circles.

Get a talking point from talkingpointmemo, commondreams, truthout, antiwar or Kos and stick with it, will ya? It's too hard to keep up.

Did anyone notice the Preznit is not concerned with Iran getting Nukular weapons, but now is concerned with Iran getting the "Knowledge" to get nukular weapons?
Be afraid, be very, very afraid.

To paraphrase:

Give a Madman a Nuke, and he can commit genocide for a day-
Teach a Madman how to build a Nuke, and he can launch a thermonuclear war.

I don't want to go back to the MAD old days, how about you?

This makes a lot of sense because we all know just how effective sanctions are.

POLL QUESTION:

Did Bush and Fucked Up Company know PRIOR to January 21st, 2000 that we would go to war with Iraq and Iran?

Call me crazy. G'head.

RW&B: Iraq for sure. He campaigned on it.

yet when the evil Bush Empire does the same thing with Iran, everyone is pulling their hair, gnashing their teeth, and running in circles.

No, the world is laughing at Cowboy George. We're imposing sanctions on a country we don't do business with (okay legally, we all know Cheney snuck around the sanctions when he ran Halliburton), while everybody else ignores Bush stamping his little feet and holding his breath and does business with them.

He's dumb but this time 'round, he won't be accused of not having gone through due process. He'll have to sing, dance and lie through it all, but the little boogieboy has shown us his ability to do just that.

Oil Is up to 91 bucks a barrel. Mission Accomplished!

As long as the useless dickhead sticks to nothing more than sanctions and threats nobody has anything to worry about. The adults will be back in charge in 15 months.

I'm not the guy writing history... I'm the guy FUCKING IT UP!!!

Every time some NeoCon asshat talks trash about how we're supposed to smack Iran, I just want to scream "And then what happens?"

Have these guys even heard of cause and effect? I'm all for keeping Iran from getting a nuke, but what exactly is the point of these sanctions? What is the specific reaction they want, and how will this cause it? Unlike Saddam, who was pretty effectively cut off and bombed out, there's nothing to prevent Iran from making all kinds of separate deals to get whatever it needs, this is nothing more than bluff posturing.

Or maybe they know this, and just want to be able to say they tried sanctions before bombing. And exactly what do they think the Iranian reaction to bombing will be? Capitulation? Doubtful.

Neocons all make me think of dorks who got bullied in school, and then grew up and discovered that if they could bully others by proxy. Lots of tough talk, delegate the dirty work, then pretend they're living in a Tom Clacy novel.

If Iran wanted a nuclear weapon I am sure they could have bought a nuclear weapon from some rogue nuclear nation. Besides don't they have the WMDS from Iraq already?

What company would you suggest to replace Halliburton?
